Sorry for the noobish question that I should know, but it's been a while since I've used an HD.
I picked up a used HD on 9.18.94. Can I simply sideload 183.46.10 and run the bootloader unlock? My first goal is the bootloader then I can flash root and unlock the radios so my wife can use it on ATT

Yep, just upgrade straight to .10, unlock, root, and you'll be good.

What are you trying to flash? The FXZ needs to be flashed in RSD.

I think you are out of luck if you are on a verizon device because they come with a locked bootloader. If it was for another carrier it is possible.

This MAY work on Verizon, but not ENTIRELY sure. The guy who made the thread did say it worked on Sprint and T-Mobile S3's. But this post is all that I know of that provides a rooting from phone method.

Mobile Odin requires you to already have root access to function, so unfortunately he couldn't use Mobile Odin to flash a rooted stock ROM in this case.

So I tried installing this last week had trouble and got me on the screen that says something like 'this is non Verizon please take to nearest Verizon store' SOMETHING LIKE THAT, sure you'll know what I'm talking about. And I want to try over but I'm not to sure why that happened. I'm THINKING it was because phone wasn't unlocked. But I'm not to sure if it was locked of unlocked. Is there several reasons that message can come up or is there one main cause, that cause being phone wasn't unlocked??

Only reason why you saw this prompt is because the bootloader is still locked. Odin flash a stock image then use Casual to root and unlock or use Invisiblek's guide on Rootzwiki to root and unlock via Odin. What root utility did you use to root?

Well I got it unlocked and rooted, so when I do the wipe and factory reset then flash rom it should all be fine right? The factory reset and wipe won't lock the bootloader?

Just wanted to know if its possible to root (towel root) flash custom recovery and custom roms and then if I decide to later revert totally back to stock unrooted nexus without a PC. Ive attempted to read up on this but I'm a little confused that ill need to use SDK and ADB which i can't have access to at the moment or have the skills to use.
I've seen apps on google play to unlock boot loader once towel rooted but I'm just unsure if i can revert totally back to an unrooted nexus 5 with original recovery, without a pc as I'm using an iMac and having really unreliability with it :/
Id greatly appreciate any help :good:

There are a couple different options.
I'm not sure if flashify requires a unlocked bootloader. Root, flash custom recovery with flashify, make a backup. When you are done either restore backup or if stock already use flashify to flash stock recovery, delete root apps, unroot via supersu.
Boot unlocker I have heard will work to lock and unlock boot loader but I'm not sure about resetting the tamper flag.
Using fastboot and adb is always going to be the surest and safest way to root etc. Unless you are going to be submitting your phone for RMA there should be no reason to unroot. You can always flash a stock rooted ROM and just leave it.

Steps are;
-Download boot unlocker fr on play
-Download flashify from play (just in case)
-Download vomers stock ROM (number 6 in resources section in the link in my signature)
-Download stock recovery (number 7 in resources section in the link in my signature)
Firstly, flash the recovery zip via your current recovery and reboot
Then, reset The tamper flag and lock the boot loader
Finally, open SuperSU and use the full indoor option to remove Root
Good as new.

Just received a replacement phone from Amazon. It has a Viper Rom wallpaper (default). Is it possible this phone could have been rooted and unlocked before and Verizon didn't catch it? If so can it be re-rooted easily? Root checker app says it's not rooted.

Yeah, just did. S-on locked. It is still 4.4.4 so still hope I guess. If I can keep it from updating before I use Sunshine.

As soon as u login to your google account it would have loaded your wall paper. So unless u did not login and it booted straight to home screen then the phone wasn't wiped before it was sent to you.
