Don't laugh at me! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this the Verizon Nexus phone? And does it run on TouchWiz or original android (AOSP). I'm trying to start some research on that device.

This is the nexus 5. There is no verizon version. It does not run on the Verizon network.
Touchwiz is a Samsung operating system.. It only runs samsung phones. The nexus is a google phone.

Pure, unadulterated AOSP.
Will not work on Verizon.

Google stock is built on an AOSP base, just like all OEM builds are.
Google stock is not AOSP. Sure, it's not modified as much as TouchWiz builds but it is still modified none-the-less

So "hopefully" those that have the MDL bootloaders still (me ) may see 4.4 from an international ROM by February...2014 or 2104 depending on the article haha... That will be at LEAST 8 months before ATT puts it out I bet.

There are already 4.4 ROM's out for anyone with MDL. Kangakat, Cm11. Why anyone would want a 4.4 build of Touchwiz is beyond me.
Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung holds off on 4.4 until the gs5. I'm positive my next device will not be a Galaxy as I'm sure it's gonna be locked down.

Ya I know. I had used CM and AOKP for a few years. At the time I loved that it had MORE options than any TW Roms. But now with some great devs for TW firmwares we have many of the great features I liked on CM/AOKP. Plus I like some of the features of TW like actually taking spectacular pics with the camera. I am sure CM/AOKP take good pics but with the TW drivers it was never the same.
So with great devs and many add on mods built in, plus Wanam, etc. I do not feel like having just OK drivers for certain hardwares that function great on TW firmwares. Plus I can debloat all the crapware to the point I like it. So personally for me, I will stick with TW based Roms until I either get a new phone (won't be buying a Samsung that has locked bootloaders EVER so NO MORE ATT phones will I be purchasing. So maybe a T-Mobile phone IF I stick with Sammy if they keep using non locked bootloaders.)
Everyone has their opinions and choices and I respect that. This is just my personal preference at this time.

If the locked bootlader is the reason your avoiding samsung...than you need tp avoid every att branded phone as they made an announcement quite some time ago thwy will no longer support unlocked phones...in other words every new att phone will come with a locked bootloader...of course this could change, but for now just use your upgrade and sell the phone unopened and buy an international or some other phone

because these ROMs are so great... NOT.
By the time AT&T pushes KitKat for the S4, I'll probably already be on an S5 or Note 4...
On the greener side of the pasture, anybody have a clue how fast T-Mo is with updating?

[Q] Android 4.3 JB for Nexus 5 request

Maybe the stangest request in xda´s time
As I need an app only compatible with 4.3 and nothing newer to run on my rooted Nexus 5, I desperately need JB for my Nexus. Does this exist or do I need a tech friend (or someone in here to bake a rom for me. Is this even possible?
Kind regards
Some q&a
Q) Is it technically possible?
A) Pretty much anything is technically possible
Q) On a scale of 1-100, how difficult is it?
A) 99.9999
Q) Will anyone ever release JB for N5?
A) Nope
Q) Not even if I ask nicely?
A) Nope
Q) Why not? Why is it so difficult?
A) The N5 was not released with JB. There is no JB Source code compatible with the N5. There are no devices with the same hardware as the N5 on JB. All the drivers and kernel would need to be backported. This is an extremely difficult, if not impossible task. No one will do this.

Have you tried using an Android emulator such as Bluestacks or Andyroid?
What is the app? Maybe someone can suggest an alternative.

LG G2 was released with JB (4.2.2), and that basically is the N5. Not saying that makes things a lot easier.

It doesn't because it doesn't have the same hardware. A few similarities, but not really.

The apps name is CSC Scandihealth HH3 version 8.8.11.7 (works only with Jellybean at this moment)
Looks like something to do with health insurance. Can you just use the mobile site? Or does the app do something special?

Sounds like you need to get on the app developers ass to update his useless JB only drivel
Maybe a stupid question, but have you tried sideloading the app? The reason I ask is because while it may not officially support KK, you may still be able to sideload it. T-Mobile VV for example didn't officially support KK until a few weeks ago (and consequently couldn't be installed through GP), but many people, myself included were still able to sideload it and it worked just fine. If you can't sideload it you'd have better luck pressing the app creator to update his app. No developer is ever going to port an outdated version of Android.

[Q] Nexus 5 Rom for Android 4.3

Hi everyone,
Does Nexus 5 support Android 4.3. I am going to test a software compatibility issue. So is there any problem to flash 4.3 to my Nexus 5 ROM? Thanks.

there isnt anything 4.3 available for the nexus 5, so you cant just flash it. theres no 4.3 source for it, no binaries, no code at all meant for the nexus 5 and 4.3. so, how do you expect to just flash it?

Sorry, I don't quite get you.
Can I download factory images occam 4.3 for Nexus 4 from "developers.google.com/android/nexus/images", and flash it into Nexus 5. I am wandering if it works.

No. Nexus 5 was released with KitKat 4.4. There are no nexus 5 "drivers" that exist that will work with 4.3 because the nexus 5 did not exist then.

Nexus 6P stock ROM on Mate 8?

Hi I was wondering if it's possible to get a stock ROM of Nexus 6P working on the Mate 8? Or a slightly modified version of the stock 6P?
um....no
two completely different devices with completely different hardware. ull basically need to rewrite the whole rom in order to port it, not exactly an easy untertaking...

No, but we will likely eventually get cyanogenmod, which is very similar, just with more options.

I think it dont work like that, we have to be ourself involved to cm devellopement to make it possible.
So our only chance is to get some of us(Mate8 owner) with enough skill to start to work on it.
we need roms like oppo rom
love it
That is the one down side to these phones as they aren't as popular as phones such as the LG G series, Samsung's, HTC's, Nexus series. They are great phones hopefully more developers get on board.

I'm surprised there's no cyanogenmod..?

As well as many other i'm used to see on other devices, why is that? Perhaps i've missed something..
Samsung haven't released the source code / drivers or something yet afaik
It's so for lot of other phones, yet you get custom roms inclueing cm13..! So there are only TouchWiz based roms for now, that's it?

Other phones don't use samsungs exynos chip, plus samsung locked the snapdragon's bootloader, so we're double ****ed.
In the end, what's the best and lightest rom to use on this phone today?
