[Q] Phone doesn't start up after update - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've the MOTO G 4G LTE.
Yesterday I was able to update to Android 4.4.4, so today, I decided to update it to Android 4.4.4.
When the update was downloaded, I clicked install and the phone shut down (Which is normal, says the Motorola website).
After 8 min. I tried to start the phone, but no reaction. The screen was black.
Now 30 min. later, the screen is still black and I still can't start the phone, charging the phone doesn't work either.
I've tried to connect with the Motorola Chat, after waiting for like 30 min. it said there were no Agents available
I hope some of you have a solution, thanks.

That's because MOTO G's charger is very bad, try using another charger.

I'm already using another charger, thanks anyway for the tip
I fixed it, I pressed the power button and volume down for 2 minutes. And chose reboot. After this, the phone started and after 10 seconds it shut down itself again, but this time. It's updating :good:
My MOTO G 4G LTE is now updated
Thanks anyway

[Q] moto g brick

Hi, everybody.
I have a big trouble with my moto g.
one time titles "android upgrading..." and then "optimizing app 1 of 1" appeared. and my device came to a cyclical reboot.
I've decide to install a custom firmware. but as soon as I've unlock the bootloader, my problem has gone. I installed a stock firmware and calmed down.
for 2 days.
soon the titles appeared again.
I came to blue monitor and swiped cash, then reboot. since my device turned off and never on.
when I connect a power cable there is 1 LED blink on 9th second when I hold a power or power+vol.down button. and then nothing. so I can't charge it, connect to computer and so on.
please, help me to reanimate the device.
may be is there a reason to give to a service?

[Q] battery fully drained and phone isn't charging or powering on

My Moto G which I bought from Saudi Arabia 2 days ago before coming back to Egypt for good has the following scenario:
Note: I'm using the original moto g charger "500 mah" that came in the box with my phone.
1st 100% charge overnight, then lasted almost 14 hrs.
2nd overnight charge, only did 95% "even tho it was plugged for 7-8 hrs" and lasted 7 hrs before battery go to zero level and device shut down.
when my phone shut down, it got stuck at the coma status, I tried every method mentioned in this post but the "waiting till the next day method" and nothing did work.
methods I used: freezer, fridge, 18 sec power on, 1 minute power on, 2-3-4 minutes power on and even the exact method on Motorola website and that method one member suggested to blug in the headphone while trying to power on or charge.
chargers I used with every method: Moto G 500 mah, Alcatel 550 mah, Galaxy Tab 7 2ah and Blackberry USB cable on computer.
result, nothing! phone still dead, and i can't return it cause I'm in a different country now and we don't even have it yet here.
my Moto G is 16GB, dual sim and running stock Kit Kat 4.4 which is available for the phone. no modified roms or any other dev setting was applied, the phone wasn't rooted. it's just like out of the box, few apps installed "some of them are downloaded from the internet" and stock upgraded to kit kat.
before hitting the zero level, the phone was charged for few minutes on a samsung charger, most probably it's for a note 3. when it went off I tried a car charger "bleackberry" for few minutes which gave me 3 pulse led white notification and nothing else.
I guess this shouldn't be related to the situation, but I'm using a data sim as sim 2 for internet and sim 1 for calls only. phone internet is running on H+ most of the time, 3G the if not H+.
I'm going to wait till tomorrow and try again, hopefully it works. but if anyone got any ideas or solutions PLEASE go on and reply with it even if you're not sure or if it's a crazy idea out of the box.
I only used the phone for 2 days :crying: I had VERY high expectations for this phone :crying:
(Update 1) I left the phone unplugged for 12 hours, plugged it in the 550mah charger for 2-3 hours, pressed the power button 1-2-3 minutes and no results still. also motorola Asia didn't reply to my email yet.
(Update 2) I unplugged the battery and put it back on, still nothing. some guy told me to connect it to a box and restore the software back to Jellybean and that the box should be capable of booting the phone up. will try that and refer back to you.
I really hope you find a solution for this, since I'm an Egyptian too who is interested greatly in moto g and may take the plunge of buying it from amazon, this really freaks me out.
I haven't read all the posts in the other topic on this subject but from what I read on other websites and could be mentioned before, you can try the following:
Plug a higher mAH charger (suggested 850 for example or 5V 2A charger) as it was probably with your blackberry car charger, then hold the power button for 2 minutes, If the LED blinks keep it charging for 10 minutes.
No idea If it would work or not of course.
I did so

Thank you bro, I know u get the whole pic.. I did actually try the car charger for almost 30-40 minutes but nothing.. only 3 blinks and that's it.. it didn't even keep the led on for few seconds,, just the 3 blinks and when I tried to turn it on, nothing!
btw, from the past 2 days, it's a great phone.. only this issue.. also the official kit kat update is a poor one, missing a lot of features but works GREAT on the phone.. u can get the phone from UAE or KSA.. the 16GB dual sim card is being sold for 900AED or 900SAR which is actually a TRUE bargain. also the charger u get with the phoneis 500 mah, so you better use another one that can charge faster cause this one is REALLY slow. you can use up to 1500mah
hopefully tho i get a decent reply from motorola for this issue.. no high hopes tho since it's not available in Egypt. :crying:
Yes, the price to value ratio for the moto g is incredible, it's really unfortunate that it wasn't/won't be released in Egypt.
Well, If I were you I would have tried the only suggestion remaining: to leave the phone for 24 hours without plugging it in or trying to power it on, then attempt again to charge it the next day. I really wish you luck in fixing this.
In the meantime, I will keep looking for any other suggestions and If I find any I will post here.
yeah!

I really need a Android Kitkat phone that isn't too expensive, I saw the Moto G and thought about buying one but if this happens then I wont
i guess.

well, the phone is amazing, really fast and good in every way except few things, some basic not very important features are missing and this drained out not charging issue.
on this post everyone was able to fix their issue, except me.. so it seem fixable 99% and u can also skip this issue if u simple shut down your phone when it reach 3-4% and turn it on again when the charger is there.. i guess.
btw, I had an S4 LTE before the moto g, and I'll never pick the S4 again. i enjoyed the moto g more and the S4 sucked in many ways like over heating and battery life time which was 6-7 hrs and the cheap housing materials "screen cracked when had a slight fall and fixing it was half the price of a new S4"
Im having the same problem as you, i tried every method as you. The 24hours method i havent fully tried it yet. I left it for 24 hours and when i plugged it in the charger I still have the same problem. The people in motorola told me to leave it for 2-3 hours on charge and that's what exactly what im doing. I will get back to you if anything happens.

Motorola should test the battery's before shipping a phone

I faced the same problem once. When I plugged it to charge it's battery was about 80%. Then suddenly it went to 0% and it was automatically shut down. After charging it further 30 miss, it was still 0%. I turned it off, after removing back cover I pressed battery a little. Turned it on and the problem was solved. It happened 10 days back and never again. I am totally satisfied with moto g. It's a great phone.
-connect your phone to a charger
-hold the power button for 2-3min (led should blink few times)
-leave the phone connected for 1hour
-unplug it and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds and it should turn on.

Moto G won't turn on :(

Hey guys, something happened to my Moto G this morning and now it won't turn on. This has happened to me previously as well where the battery drained and charging it sorted the problem out.
But this time the battery was fully charged and now it won't turn on, neither does the screen light up when I connect it to the charger (with the 0% battery logo).
Something to note - I got an update from the play store for Motorola Boot Services. My phone restarted once and showed me the new boot animation (World Cup). Then it just went dead. Not sure if this has to do something with it.
I was running stock with an unlocked bootloader, root and twrp. XT1033 dual SIM.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Any way to at least get the phone back to stock so I can take it back to Motorola.

Try again, with the device connected to the charger. This should perform a reset and a force boot, so it's just like removing the battery, If no luck, try to recover your bootloader by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623587
Press power and volume down keys for about 30-45 seconds and then release. This will turn of the device and then reboot to bootloader automatically. If this doesnt work, it should be a problem with the screen.
I've updated my boot services today and it didn't cause any trouble so far.
My advice is to leave it for few hours on the charger if it's really showing the charging picture and it shows 0% there.

[Q] How to revive Moto G? Only LED blinks

Something bad happened to my Moto G. Something really bad. After flashing GPE 4.4.2 ROM (everything went fine), system downloaded an update to 4.4.4. After reboot the update screen show up, but the progress bar was moving very slow. After about 30 minutes it was 75% done, and the screen wend black (the phone was 80% charged before the update start). Moto is not responding, completly brick. When I press the power buton for a few seconds, LED blinks two times. After holding power+Vol.down for 10 sec or 2 minutes, LED blinks, but there is no other reaction. I tried also to charge the phone for 8 hours with 5V charger. Nothing.
After searching the solution and watching some youtube videos I decided to remove the bettery and try to boot it on cable. Nothing. When I plug the charger (no battery), LED bliks, it's like a Morse code, and thats it.
Please, advice me, what to do with my Moto Brick? Help!
Try holding the power button for at least 30-50sc
we have a same problem dude
and theres is no way , to make it "alive"

i have read that flashing gpe 4.4.2 and then updating to 4.4.4 causes hard brick and so i think your moto g is dead
i too have a brick but that is a wierd one. I am able to get into fastboot but system files flashes with an error IMAGE IS TOO LARGE

Moto G XT1033 dead...tried everything but still failed...

SO I had cm 13 nightly but I wanted to go back to lollipop. As I didn't have stock rom of lollipop, I had to flash stock 4.4.4 and then use ota update as my download is crap and I had these files offline. SO I flashed the 4.4.4 using fastboot and then the phone went off for restart and then it was the last time I ever saw my screen getting lighten up. Well at that time battery was about 60% so I was pretty sure that it was the case. Nevertheless I tried *everything*, 15 sec power button, 2 min power button, power button+vol button, 1 hour charge, 2 hour charge, whole freaking night charge, charge via high ampere, everything. SO at last I changed the battery, well my money got wasted, each and every thing remains same. Now if I am charging via my pc then after 15 sec power button pc give new hardware notification sound and that's it, nothing more.. I am pretty sure that LCD was fine too. Well currently it gives few second of LED notification blink for like half a minute if I charge it after couple of hour. SO is there any savior out there?
