My son's phone is going crazy! SGH-T959v. It had a bootloop with Linda saying to convert partition, etc. I flash Valhalla again. I downloaded it again and flashed it again. Now I've downloaded and flashed a ROM from Team Acid and now it is bootlooping with Linda telling me "Low Battery Level, Conversion cancelled."
I've plugged it into a charger. Should I just let it go for a while?
I'm about to throw this phone in the trash!
Thanks, Barry

Try flashing the blastoff kernel to the phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828171
It sounds like your phone may have battery issues. You should leave the charger plugged in while you're flashing the kernel, but for now try doing this to get into recovery:
Take out the battery, unplug the phone from the charger.
Put the battery back in.
Hold BOTH volume keys (volume up and volume down) together, then hold the power button.
When you see the screen turn on, let go of the power button.
When your phone gets into recovery mode, let go of the volume keys.
Now you can put your phone back on the charger and flash the blastoff kernel.
Great info FB. I think on clicking back to stock with root would be helpful and then just flash to the ROM you want.
Sent from inside the time vortex
It was back to "Convert Data partition...." right after I wrote that and went to bed at an ungodly hour.
Time to try blastoff.
Getting into Recovery or Download modes is relatively easy.
It said flash was successful, as it has for all flashes I've done. However, it is sitting there flashing back and forth between the Galaxy S 4G display and the Galaxy S 4G Team Acid display. At least Linda isn't talking.

It sounds like your ROM installation is borked then.
There are two things you can try:
Try to do a factory reset (this will wipe out all your installed apps and settings, but everything on the SD card should stay intact, but I'd make a backup of your SD card to be safe)
If that doesn't work, download the valhalla zip again and re-flash it.
Already flashed Valhalla, twice. Blastoff too.

Follow lumin's guide, this will reinstall the stock Samsung Gingerbread 2.3.6 ROM on your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
Will give it a shot.
Thanks, B
Well, the USB port seems to be Borked. One time I almost got it to work long enough. I've probably tried forty times this afternoon and evening. Half the time the USB device is not recognized. Now it doesn't bootloop anymore, it just stays on the opening splash screen; that is, when I can keep from soft bricking it. I've used the One Click Unbrick a couple of times, but the USB is so bad now....
I bought him an S3 to replace this one, but found out after purchase that its USB port is worn out too. I could always use an external charger with it, like I used to do with the S, but that is annoying.
So for right now he is without a phone.
Barry
... and now the repair store says the S3 has motherboard issues regarding the USB port. Ugh.
Great news! Somehow I got lucky and the USB connection worked long enough for me to un-soft-brick it for the fourth time and flash it back to stock.
IT WORKS!! Many many thanks to the XDA community!
Double great news! As for the Galaxy S3; It's USB port has been replaced, secured, and wired to the motherboard. The pads where you would solder the port to were pulled from the board and the tech figured out where to run wires and soldered them in place. Yahooooooo!
Now to do some mild mods to the S3...
Thanks again! :highfive:

Try gtg's ultimate unbrick.
The only known way to completely brick these phones is to flash a bad bootloader, and you have to go out of your way to do that. There's only one known instance of a hardbricked Infuse so far, and that was a volunteer for a known dangerous experiment.
If you can see anything on your screen, you're in good shape as your bootloader is still alive. If you see the Samsung logo you're in great shape as you have a booting kernel that just doesn't like something about your filesystems. Either way, Odining an unbrick package should fix you right up.
Edit: As I understand it, "power-off" charging is somehow handled by the kernel in a special way. At least it is on the Tab 10.1 - so an unhappy kernel means no power-off charging.

I fell asleep with the phone in boot loader mode and didn't have it plugged up but phone died and next day tried to turn phone on and showed att then cut off. Plugged it in and keep cutting off and on blinking and won't charge bat. Won't go into either mode (download or reboot). I have read a few but not like mines.. won't read on computer. Any help please. I will tip or pay for cheap fix..? Thanks!
Remove the battery, put it back in, and press and hold only the two volume keys to enter download mode. Then use Odin to flash a package.

In this case, not a good idea. The battery is dead.
After a few cycles of it blinking on/off the battery should hopefully have enough charge that it'll eventually stay awake.
I think there are some other tricks to charge the battery when it's severely discharged like this, but I don't know them - I've never been below 30%.
Worst case this should charge your battery a bit to get you out of where you are - http://www.staples.com/Vivitar-SC-ALL-Universal-Battery-Charger/product_791676 , or one of the "standalone" Infuse battery chargers on eBay.

I think I bricked my Infuse, rooted with odin kernel hack, worked fine, left it in the charger for the night, wake up, its not responding to any buttons, odd, pull out battery, reinsert battery and I get nothing no response from it. Plug in in the wall charger, and I get a little loading circle on the screen thats frozen, unplugged it, pulled out battery, reinsert battery and try booting again, this time it got as far as a ROGERS boot screen, but now Samsung boot screen. Left it for 15 minutes and it was still at rogers boot screen. haven't been able to get past the loading circle since.
Any chance of survival for my week old Infuse?
EDIT: forgot to mention I've tried to get it in download mode with no success.
EDIT2: Solved and recovered with Adam Outler unbrick

It's doing something, so it's saveable.
You don't say whether or not you tried download mode.
Do that then reflash.

I just tried to get it into download mode, had to use a different computer. I used GTG Unbricking tool and Odin said success, my Rogers phone booted to AT&T screen and then to a Samsung screen where it sat on for about 10-20 minutes before it shut itself off, now when I plug it in it shows a empty battery with a frozen loading circle overtop it.
Glad to hear it's salvageable anyway!

Thanks so much! Solved my issue after trying 4 times with Adam Outler. for custom roms and kernels I think Im going to stick to my O3D, this Infuse 4G doesn't seem as easy to recover after I accidentally kill it, my O3D seems more reliable. The Infuse shall remain stock with root!

Have you tried taking the sim out? The first time mine did this, I took out my sim and SD card and it worked fine until it randomly shut off in the night.
Ok, here's where I'm at...
Rooted/Kexec installed
Flashed several ROM's over the last two weeks or so with no issue.
Never did a backup and restore.
Flashed a CM10 Invisitek(?) ROM today and didn't like it.
Before I flashed it, I made a backup of my XTC install.
Tried to restore that XTC and it failed.
Tried to restore again and it said that it passed and I rebooted.
Now, when you turn the phone on, it will boot up to Samsung Custom with a lock icon then flash the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen.
Once it flashes the second screen, it will go to a blank screen and that's it.
I've tried to get the phone into Download mode by pressing both volume keys, home and power at the same time and it boots as described above.
Any nudges in the right direction? :fingers-crossed:

If you have a custom rom still on your sd card, try booting into recovery volume up+home+power and wipe data/ factory reset and then install zip from sdcard.choose your rom and flash.. that should be able to get you to boot up again. I had to do this when my phone would boot up and go blank after the sgs3 logo screen.
Do those two ROMs use different kernels? Because if that's the case, there's your problem. To my knowledge, CWM doesn't backup kernels, so restoring a nandroid wouldn't restore the kernel needed for that particular ROM to function. At least, that's how it was for my old Xperia Play. You needed to flash the new kernel before the ROM to ensure it would boot. With kexec, that's a little different.
But, I could be totally off base. Just throwing my limited knowledge out there for someone to maybe expound upon.

It makes sense for some phones, but it doesn't make sense that you're unable to get into download mode. Regardless of the incorrect kernel, you should be able to get into download/recovery mode. What is your device registered as when you plug it into your machine (such as QHSUSB_DLOAD)? Are you running Windows/Mac/Linux?
If your phone turns on you can get to Odin. Your best bet is making a usb jig. It's a special usb end that has 300k ohm resistor between two pins of the usb. When plugged in and the phone turns on it puts you directly into download mode. You can Google on how to make one from a usb cable and resistors from Radio Shack or mobiletechvideos.com sells them for $8.
Once in download/Odin mode you can re flash everything to stock.

This is your best bet if nothing else is working. I bought one from China on eBay last year for my GNex. I'm glad I've always got it.
Yea, I ended up having to jig it this morning when I got to the office and had access to my other tools. THAT got it into Download mode and allowed me to flash it back to stock. Bizzare evening for sure.
Thanks for all the help!
For the record...
To get into DOWNLOAD mode you hold home, power, and volume DOWN.
Volume up is for recovery.
Hope that helps.

Same problem
I had this same problem for a AT&T gs3 but I think my battery died and when I plug it in it won't charge. How can I fix that charging problem and then the start up problem?
I flashed a Jellybean touchwiz rom for Verizon GS3, and went to reboot and now nothing, zero zip nada. No charging led light, no way to get into recovery and no response.
Anything I can do?
what happens when you do vol up + home+power button?
Absolutely nothing. I tried to get back into the recovery to see if I could restore my backup and nope.
did you try leave it pluged in for 30mins ?
does it vibrate once when you try to turn it on?
No vibrating and no sign of life at all. Even when plugged into my computer, I was going to try the unbrick guide but it listed that I should be able to get into the recovery still.

do you have a usb jig?
I don't have a USB jig but this is possibly good news. I removed the battery and SD card and plugged it into my computer and it tried to install drivers (failed but tried) and the led light comes on red.
if your gettin led now you more then likely need to let it charge

you know
I am surprised. That also happened to me the first time i flashed that very same rom (touchwiz) with twrp . I have done this so many times , i literarily can flash a rom on the way to work .
I was in shock , i still dont know how the heck can i flash a rom and brick .
I plugged mine into windows and i got the device manager driver error from hell . and my phone never came back up again
I stayed away form twrp and touchwiz and i still cant possibly comprehend how a simple rom flash can brick my phone .
Which ROM did you flash?

you could probably send it to get Jtag'ed for around $60 if your warranty is invalid (ie used device)
You just hard bricked it. I did the same thing. Check here - post 5 shows the same symptoms :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770341

So, in the future, md5 checksum absolutely everything since I'm assuming now that that is why this happened? (Since I made doubly sure I was flashing a rom for my phone).
If you still have the file you downloaded, you can check it. That would answer that question. If it checks out fine, then we have to look elsewhere for the problem.
BTW, MobileTechVideos.com can bring you back - based on my experience with them, I highly recommend.

Please share exactly what you did so others can benefit from your unfortunate experience.
What ROM did you flash?
Did you use ODIN or a recovery?
If recovery, which one - CWM or TWRP?
Was there any unusual condition you can think of ... low battery, USB connected to computer or to charger, etc?
I have like many, played with my Android for 2 years now. I have a bricked Infuse GB (finally toyed with it to its death last week), so I pulled out my old Froyo unrooted backup. I rooted with SuperOneClick - easy. I made some kernel tweaks in Rom Toolbox Pro, and also changed a few status bar icons. I did several reboots and all was running well. I did need to adjust some more tweaks but I saved those for my next big change, when I decided to.
...look into more of what I could do and downloaded the zip file for Voodoo Sound. I read that this could do wonders on my Froyo stock rom and was compatible - actually, I read fairly safe. So I can't say if this caused this or not. It could have been my lack of booting after each simple change, font, notification icons..etc. But I didn't do much more before I flashed Voodoo Sound
I downloaded SGS Kernal Flasher from the market, and when I flashed and it booted, I got the SAMSUNG screen. Then followed by a new black screen with GALAXY S GT-I9000 in white with Samsung logo on bottom. And it stays frozen. I cannot enter recovery mode or download mode to my knowledge - or should I say, experience.
Since this was my backup and what I was doing seemed relatively harmless Im a bit shocked. I loved that my font and icons were changing, something I couldn't do with my gingerbread infuse using rom toolbox pro.
So now I am stuck on a bootscreen I've never seen before, nor intended to flash if that is what happened. Was this flashing Voodoo Sound or was it my negligence with other? I just rooted this yesterday after getting too frustrated to fix the GB. I don't think I had but 4 apps downloaded and really left most of the build.prop stuff alone beyond some minor adjustments for battery life.
So I'm stuck on a boot screen with a phone model I am not familiar with, cannot get into download mode or into recovery mode. I had a TWRP Recovery zip file I never set up yet, never got CWM recovery working - regardless, I just started playing with it so I'm lost as I thought I could just wipe, reinstall packages and reboot fresh. I hate this to be my first post, but I usually find all the answers I need from you guys and I appreciate all the efforts you put into this site to help noobs like myself from creating disasters. I just didn't know what to do and if I'm not hard bricked, I don't want to end up that way.
I thought unrooting would work, but I can't get into the phone so it won't connect to the computer. Also, when plugged in, it shows a battery frozen at zero. I know it's probably charging but that must mean I messed up something that starts at boot. Anyone willing to help me resolve this issue and get me back on so I can make phone calls again - something I should probably stick too, haha. But sometimes, mistakes are the best teachers...so maybe I'll learn something easy from the pros here.

Thank you, I'll search that out. Well, I thought bricking was more potential, but if I can do a recovery on both that'd be great. I backed all up to laptop and gdrive before - and actually thought about leaving it "new". As my first root and tweaking, or "modding" out the GB was great. And I never picked Froyo back up, but I just wiped it and rooted it yesterday, and I only used it for a month when I got it (long story with phone provider and a dent on the side (but I have two Infuses,Froy and GB)
But I am going to stay away from flashing. That got the GB...but since you brought up the power option. I thought they were toast. If it takes me a few days to learn, I'd do it in a heart beat - they both have power and that means I can get them both working. The GB has a PC on left, Phone on right and a triangle in middle. I didn't read into fixing that - which I thought would be tougher than grabbing my other. Maybe I can get both working and get some more insight.
I appreciate it, and anyone else who inputs. I'll start reading into that other thread after dinner, cross your fingers for me. :fingers-crossed:
I cannot find the specific thread you were directing me to. But I was successful after many attempts to enter download mode. It is being recognized but unable to access the insides of my phone. If I click reboot from download mode (volume down), it boots to the stuck Samsung logo. If I push up, it's in download mode, but I have nothing to send commands to it as it's not being recognized beyond the Samsung USB composite.
Can someone direct me to where the thread may be about the frozen/stuck Samsung boot logo? Also, frozen 0% battery level but charged all night.
I'm trying to find something specific on this but it's difficult being an Infuse Froyo and I'm stuck on the Galaxy S GTI900 which was never there before my last reboot - obviously whatever I flashed was probably for the Galaxy S. I get SAMSUNG, then the Galaxy S screen...can't seem to get into recovery because it's too fast before stuck again.
Take out the battery, put it back in do not turn it on hit volume up and volume down plug in USB that's the download mode you are looking for
