[Q] Dropped My Nexus 5 in the toilet. Fried efs, no Backup - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My efs partion fried when i dumped (haha see what i did there?) in the toilet. Lost everything. Never had it long enough to backup the efs either.... i took the phone apart and dried all the components and it boots now. No IMEI,camera works intermittently. Im okay with never getting the phone on a network again... I'm just hoping that i can get the storage back to at least use it for wifi and in my truck as a bluetooth music device... Does anyone have an Idea on how to recover the efs to a somewhat working state? i tried flashing the stock image but adb fails. Should i just throw it in my desk and forget about it?

Water cant make wipe partition. it can kill the the flash chip, but if that happens your phone cannot be turned on. Your efs is fine. Something releated to the radio is broken on the motherboard.

ended up getting a moto g a few months ago on republic.
phone turns on and works fine. i can use wifi and the phone functions otherwise. like i said. Shows no IMEI and Storage says its running out and only Shows 128mb.Also when i go into recovery mode it says it cant mount cache, and when i try to format it says it cant mount data either. Any suggestions will be appreciated. im going to go to bed and i may try some more stuff tomorrow.

If you flash stock and its the same....its probably hardware....unfortunately.

And I've read lots of good stuff about the Moto G....considering the price! ?

Sell it for the screen and battery, if good, and get a pre-owned Moto

BRICKED after deleting a file !!! HELP PLEASE...

Ok, so I had recently flashed MIUI sense based, I realized it wasn't for me so I restored my backup of TrickDroid 6.1. After doing this I went through and decided to delete some some stuff because my space was getting low (not 5mb low, more like maybe 1/2gb), I went to delete the MIUI v4 2.7.6 file and the phone appeared to go into standby... I tried to wake it up again with no luck. Plugging it into a charger does nothing, no red light; no green light. I'm unable to get into bootloader mode, no matter how long I hold down the "down volume + power" combo or any variation of it.
I need one of the gurus to help please !!!!
maybe post this in general or q&a?
any adb connection? if it's in standby then you may be able to move along to the next step
could just be a SOD (sleep of death)

Did u try hold the power? It'll reboot?then hold volume down about 10s.it should go to bootloader
2nd Option: use all-in-one tool kit.it has a command to reboot.
And don't post question or help here.read the rule.

Sorry about posting in this section, I assumed I'd get a quicker response.
I tried the All-In-One Kit thing... doesn't work "error: device not found"
I cannot get the phone to power on at all, no bootloader, no splash screen, nothing recognized by my pc. I get a "QHUSB_DLOAD NO DRIVER FOUND"
Thoughts?

If it can't boot or use adb command.i think u should contact with HTC for helps,or at least where u buy the mobile. And of couse u still have Warranty.
It may be a hardware problem. We here can only try if it is a software problem.at ur position, the device can't be recognized by Computer/Laptop (before this,it worked well right?),then i think bad luck.
Don't be despair, it'll have some way to solve.

Sorry to tell you man the same thing just happened to me. I just got a replacement from T-Mobile. You will not get that thing back on. Just call T-Mobile and tell them it won't power on nor will it charge. It's funny because I was adding music to mine when it happened. If it happened the same way mine did then you will notice it was really hot when it shut off. The MDJ kernel overheated the Processor and killed it. Once that happens the device is a useless brick. I'm trading my replacement for another phone because this phone happens to overheat a lot.

Thanks everyone for the help... At least I know what I have going on... Already started re-downloading a buttload of stuff to get back on track. I don't normally backup my Nandroids or my TB files to my PC, maybe I should start.
Going tomorrow to the Tmo store to get the replacement sent overnight.
Thanks again.

Time for a new Sensation?

My Sensation seems likes its been going down the tube. A few weeks ago, I started having WiFi issues, where the WiFi would disconnect for no apparent reason. it would still scan and see the networks, but refuse to connect to anything. Sometimes it would totally bork itself and get stuck saying "turning WiFi off/on...".
Next up is reboot issues. For no apparent reason, my phone freezes, then reboots. Here's the best part: if it happens once, it happens again just second after rebooting, and again, and again, and again. I have to pull the battery to make it temporarily stop.
Next up is the battery: Recovery and system tell me two different things. Upon taking it off the charger this morning, recovery told me 62%. I turned my phone off, then booted back into recovery a half hour later. 22%. A couple minutes later, 4%. I booted into Android, it tells me 40%. WTF?
Also, sometimes the mobile data will drop entirely and I'll be stuck with no data.
These issues occur no matter what ROM I'm on, I flashed fouf different ROMs and the same crap happens. I've even went to CM9.0.0, since its the most stable thing I have ever used.
What could be the problem? I'm going to use my myTouch 4G meanwhile, but I love my Sensation. What's wrong with it? These issues popped up out of nowhere, I wish they would go away. If worst comes to worst, I'll just send my Sensation in for repair, since I'm still under the 1 year warranty until next month.
Any suggestions guys?
P.S.: I typed this on a Wii U. Forgive any errors.
try a new battery? i think your best bet is to send it back to warranty before it expires, but you need to flash stock rom and s-on again.

Yep, I flashed 3.33 universal and had to reflash my ROM thanks to the partition changes. Same **** is still happening. Going to try get S-ON again and flash an RUU, then try to send it in to HTC. This phone is freaking awesome but the WiFi cutouts, the reboots, and the sudden deaths are just killing me. This thing went from over 50% to 4% this morning in just a reboot, then it took an hour to drop to three percent. My phone needs some serious help.
Mine is doing the same still. Shuts down and loses all battery a few restarts then it seems fine for a few hours. Weird

Just flashed the RUU. Going to chill here for a while and see how it works out, even with HTC's ****ed up multitouch in the kernel. I just want my phone to work. Plus, I had rolled back to ICS about three weeks ago, HyperNonSense to be exact, mainly for the Sense camera. You just can't beat HTC Sense's camera. It's the one thing keeping me from ditching HTC Sense.
Flashed the RUU, but still getting the same result. Going to just turn S-ON and revert superCID and send this to HTC.

So something nice and odd happened... Kept it in Airplane mode for a day (unintentionally) since I had my SIM and SD Card in my myTouch 4G... And suddenly it works great. Gotten through the day so far with no WiFi drops or reboots. Just putting it out there for reference, since I see a handful of people with the same issue. It might help to Forget all networks prior to going into Airplane mode.
Spoke too soon. Lost WiFi, no reboot though. Just going to send it in.
maybe you have faulty wifi hardware, which in turn is draining your battery?? just a guess, sucks to hear tho man

Some of us don't so that's why I'm looking towards fixing the problem since I know I'm not the only one and I doubt the issue is defective devices.

Shame. Anyway, a good rule of thumb is that if full flash of factory images and a full wipe without restoring any backups doesn't fix it, it isn't a software problem.

[Q] Unit Doesn't Seem To Power On

Hey guys hopefully someone can help me out a little because I am stumped right now and have been for a couple days. I had a stock Verizon S3 on 4.3 and was wanting to unlock it so I rooted it which went fine. I updated SuperUser, verified I had root access and then proceeded to use EZ-Unlock for the S3 which also seemed to go just fine as it said the device had been unlocked. Well I had planned on giving the phone to someone so I went into the settings and did a factory reset so it would be all cleaned out and ready for someone else. It seemed to work fine, did it's thing and then of course rebooted, well it never did come back on so I decided after a few minutes to turn it back on myself which I then discovered it wouldn't turn back on.
I've tried plugging it in to the wall charger for a while which did nothing, the light doesn't even come on. I've plugged it back into a couple of different PCs which make the noise like a device has been connected, even installed the S3 drivers on the computer that didn't have the drivers but still no charging light and it doesn't show up in the adb device list. Today I decided to take the battery out and plug it into the wall which does turn the charging light on for a little bit but of course the phone doesn't start up at all, it was a long shot but I've tried everything I can think of so I'm hoping someone here can maybe help me out. Thank you to anyone that is willing to read this and let me know what they think.

OPO issues connecting to phone network

Hi everyone
Not quite sure where to start so I will go from the beginning.
I purchased a OPO almost 18 months ago now and since I received the phone I rooted it and originally flashed OxygenOS but found that that ROM drained my battery in hours, so then I installed Cyanogen OS 12.0(-YNG1TAS213) and found that almost everything worked perfectly. After a while I noticed that whenever I was in the car and went through an area that didn't have any carrier service I would need to reboot my phone in order to get my data to work again. I have put up with this because it hasn't been that much of an issue to me. (I mention this because it might be related to the issue I am facing now)
In the last couple of days my phone has gone from working fine to hardly working at all, until yesterday my phone just wouldn't connect to my carrier network at all and I kept getting a message come up as a notification saying 'Selected network (3 UK) unavailable'. When this happened I tried rebooting the phone, aeroplane mode off and on, clearing Cache and Dalvik Cache in TWRP and nothing helped. Yesterday evening after backing up my important data on the phone I went back into TWRP and did a factory reset.
After switching my phone back on again and setting it up as a new device I can now connect to my network, sort of. I don't get anything better than the shaded signal icon (worst signal strength), if I move around my house for example I lose service and if I go back to the same spot where I did have signal and flick aeroplane mode off and on again, probably about 40% of the time I get signal again.
A friend of mine is pretty good with this sort of stuff and has sorted previous phones for me but he lives 200+ miles away and can't really help. He thinks however that its likely to be the modem. I don't really know what to do so if someone can help instruct me as to how I can update the modem or suggest so other fix that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance.
Matt
Try flashing a new modem. There's a thread on it. There is no best modem, what works for you may not work at all for others, grab a couple, try one per day till you find one for you.
This always fixed that for me

Sorry I am completely new to dealing with modems. This may sound like a dumb question but does any modem work on any phone and its performance is based on what network you're using?

Nope modems are phone specific. You need a OnePlus modem.
Performance can vary based on location and carrier. You're best off trying a few, then remembering which is best for your. Modems aren't rom dependant, any OnePlus modem should work with any OnePlus rom. Some are made for different versions of Android though, I usually start with the most recent and work back.
Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/ref-oneplus-one-modem-collection-t2858734
Edit: this might have been part of the reason oxygen drained your battery too. If you've got the wrong modem your phone spend all day trying to negotiate a mobile connection. This kills your battery.
