I've been looking at the m8 for awhile now and was wondering how the build quality has been. Any issues?

I have heard some people voice concern over the volume rocker being loose, small gaps between speaker grill and screen or (in my case) it being slight raise in one corner. My issue with the screen is only something I notice if I run my finger over it slowly and if I point it out to someone I get a chuckle and a head shake lol. Build quality in my experience with every m8 I have seen with the exception of one has been great IMO. The poorly built m8 i did see the rep wouldnt sell it and took it back with out being ask which was nice. Sometimes I will get tiny pieces of lint in the speaker grill but its easy to remove with tape.

Camera has a strange film on it that scratches very easily. Easily fixed by using an abrasive to buff it out like toothpaste or a Mr clean magic eraser. Annoying nonetheless.
Besides that it's great.

Do you have a case of some kind on your device if so which one? I only ask because I have yet to scratch mine in almost 4 months. I run naked or with a very thin beaus clear case.

Yes, it's a supcase with a clear back, scratched up very badly just from being in my pocket. Also my duo camera and front camera kind of got really foggy, so my pictures came out all blurry. I had nothing else in my pocket and always took good care of it.
You might have a good model then. But once I had one scratch the rest came fairly quickly.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I happened to have taken mine with me on a jetski once by mistake and the results of it gave my phone a wiggly power button (i think, might have already been there) but other than that I've seen little to no faults in it.
Sorry for another question but I gotta ask about signal strength compared to say moto or LG. I went from a droid razr to a G2 last November and have seen some variance in signal.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Build quality for me is nice. I don't have the volume wiggle buttons problem. I will say some times lint from your pockets gets in the speaker grill but taking a cleaning cloth and wipe over the holes does it for me.

Haha, thanks for the sympathy.
I think a dead pixel might be worse, after you scratch away that film the camera is good as new. Dead pixel all you can do is replace the screen. My camera is great now.

Congrats, now wrap it up in BSE or Ghost Armor, or if you can't do that, at least get a case for it. One drop on asphalt will result in regret for as long as you own it.

Don't jinx yourself man. I had my Nexus One from January 8th of last year. Never dropped it until I decided to myself that I was ready to move on a couple months ago... dropped it twice, effectively knocking $50 off the value.
Got my Nexus S and had ordered BSE before I ever received it. It didn't leave my house until it was wrapped up more securely than a john's member when he's with a pro.
the only..
the only defect I have found is not being able to stop playing with it, my wife gets highly annoyed.
You shouldn't have to worry at all about quality of the build like the HTC Evo & Evo 3D. I took back multiple Evo's and have yet to return a Nexus S due to manufacturer defect
I've had several replacements due to various issues, non of which were defects noticeable in the store. The biggest thing I've noticed is the fluctuation is displays. One looks bright and bold while the other looks natural and warm. This of course would be opinion and not a defect.
I'm the type who likes to slap on a screen protector before powering on the device so I never allow the reps to open my new device and set it up.(they're always ruff and I've had two phones leave the store with scratches on the displays from the reps fingernails). Issues your going to notice are things like weak signal strength, weak wifi connection, etc. These are known "issues" were all experiencing and are not things an exchange is going to solve. I'm a huge fan of the NS4G and will never own a non Nexus/pure Google device again. The hardware is not totally cutting edge but its a solid, well built device that leaves you feeling you have the most OFFICIAL Android device in your hand.

I dropped the Nexus S down a few steps, and there are no scratches or dents.
The camera works fine, and nothing rattles when I shake it.
Are there any other internal damage issues that I should be worried about?
How dare you. The main thing you should be worried about is your nexus running off to a new owner. Lol.

Edit: to the Original Poster, just fyi, everything attached to the motherboard will survive quite severe shocks. Usually the screen will break before anything else. You may have seen phones with shattered LCD screens that are in otherwise perfectly functioning order
So I'm shopping around for all things cases, docks, etc. I stumbled upon this bad boy and thought it looked slick. I heard that aluminum backed cases can mess with your radios, WiFi and cell, is this true? Would it have any impact on the phone?

Okay let's think of it as an scenario...hmmmm oh! Think of a satellite signal and satellite dish (cable) now that the satellite signal hits your dish with quite the best precision you get signal. Now your phone does both(sends the signal in which corresponds with the tower and outputs the data back at exponential speeds) so if I had to guess......yeaaaah I think it may effect it.
Edit: whoa that's a beautiful case!

Lol thanks for the explanation. I figured it would. Looks pretty dope though I want it. How bad do ya think it would be for the phone? like terrible signals or a just a dropped call here and there?
Does anyone know of something similar to this that wouldn't mess with it?

Sadly, no. Shipping on this thing is wack. Hopefully soon though. As soon as it comes in I will report in here.
Finally, it arrived. I'm liking it. It gives a slim sleek profile to the phone. Very minimal bulk to it. The brushed aluminum back has a nice feel to it. Something I've noticed in the five minutes that its been on my phone is the plastic around the metal is just that. Plastic. Ick. Some people might like it but personally, I don't. Something to keep in mind. Another thing I've noticed is the aluminum is seemingly glued on to the plastic. Don't get me wrong here though, very sturdy and isn't coming off but it isn't a seamless integration. The cut outs for the buttons and speaker are a smudgeon off, a slight bit up on the phone. That's minor and just my OCD kicking in, everything is fully functional and usable though.
Rating: 8/10 You get what you pay for, and perhaps a little more.
Any signal issues

there is nothing to show in front of those cases because you can only see your phone screen when you put these cases on.

One of the main reasons I bought mine as well is the looks.
You might want to check out the cases made by Spigen. Particularly the Slim Armor cases. They follow the looks of the phone and come in the same colors as the phone.

FYI no fingerprints here...

Hey everyone. What's the general consensus on how to fix the camera lens? From what I'm seeing, it is to remove a so called film on the lens.
Anyone have any experience with this? My camera is next to worthless and that is obviously very disappointing.

I ended up not using a Mr clean because of the way Mr clean works. It can really cause scratches to the lens because of its rigidity once wet.
