[Q] Help 10.1 stuck at Samsung logo! - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my Samsung note 10.1 is stuck at the start logo. I googled it and looked at solutions on this site but my situation seems more hopeless than others I've read about. Firstly, I have never rooted this and it should be running ICS. I had left my (working) tablet for about 10 hours and tried to activate the screen when I picked it up. I pressed the power button which gave me the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 logo which stayed on the screen and wouldn't budge but when I held the power and volume buttons, it would go off after 4 or five seconds only to come on again. I have looked at these and other forums and have tried a hard re-set but I just get the same logo appearing again and again. I couldn't actually turn it off, so I opened it and disconnected the battery. This has made no difference. I removed the SD card while I tried every permutation of pressing buttons but all to no avail. Please help. Is this now permanently dead? I would love to do a re-set and don't care about losing stuff but that doesn't work.????
Thanks for reading this....

When you tried the On/Off + Volume Up (at the same time), did you get the default recovery mode?

Still not working

Unfortunately, no, I always get the same Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 white writing on the black background...

Yes, that's the method to get into download mode. You need to press them both at the same time.

When you press the On/Off + Volume Up buttons at the same time you need to hold them until the writing shows up. Once you see the Samsung logo then let the buttons go. If you release the buttons before that the device will just do a regular boot instead.

I have the exact same issue, stuck at screen, also just got it yesterday. I believe it is due to kitkat OTA, as I was running 4.1.2 and was not planning to update. I think the tablet somehow updated itself.
---------- Post added at 01:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 PM ----------
I also tried flashing various recovery, including the stock recovery, TWRP, CWM. The furthest I get to the recovery is the android boot logo, and it reboots back to the "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" logo screen
I think it would be fine if I can hard reset the device, but no dice for now.
Going to try flashing older 4.1.2 rom later. Hope that works.

Thanks for this, it would explain why my 10.1 suddenly became useless without me doing anything to it. I've read that the KIt Kat update was only made available to the wi-fi and 3G versions and that installing it on the Wi-Fi only could brick it!
Can you point me in the direction of a guide to trying what you've done? Otherwise this is going back to Samsung to fix for silly money, no doubt.

Turn off the tablet completely. Then, press the Volume Up and On/Off buttons at the same time for a few seconds until you see the writings come up (most likely the Samsung logo). As soon as you see the writings let the buttons go. That will get you into the Recovery mode. Do a Factory Reset and reboot.
You have to set up everything after doing this but at least you'll get your tablet back.

Nope, apparently after asking around , mosts owners that bricked their device this way, can't enter recovery mode. It just shows the android logo that supposedly leads to the recovery option for a few secs, and restarts. I think its an issue with the new bootloader 4.4 is bundled with, that only afflicts a small number of devices. I even have a colleague at work that had the same problem after auto updating, but somehow after multiple reboots getting stuck at the logo screen, it now works properly, and boots up with 4.4 instead of the previous os.

Nope, thats my colleague's tablet. At my workplace, most use note 10.1 tablet, so i had a generous sampling. Most upgraded without incident, but some, like me and a few others, are all suffering the same issue. All within weeks of the kitkat update rollout i my country.

I still don't know why you can't get into the Recovery mode with the Vol. Up + On/Off?
Do you hold the buttons until you see the logo comes up or you let it go before that?

I have been using custom and stock recovery on my almost 2 year old note 10.1. Pretty sure I did not make a mistake pressing it, its just that the recovery mode loads and fail. I see the android recovery logo for a sec or two, then it reboots before showing the recovery menu. So this boot loop prevents most people from reseting/wipe from the recovery menu.
But its rather nonsensical to assume a guy who knows how to flash custom recovery on his almost 2 year old note 10.1 doesn't know how to enter the recovery mode, don't you think?

I agree. Well, I couldn't find any information regarding your situation. Sorry pal. I wish you luck.

I think that I can tell you an old experience I had. I was on stock Jelly Bean. It wasn't this type of a problem but maybe it might help somebody. Here's what happened:
I was using my tablet in the afternoon and I pressed the power button to close the screen. Then I left. After a while I came back and tried turning on my tablet. It wasn't turning on. It wasn't reacting to anything. Neither the power button, nor the charger. I searched online and found out that you could hold your finger on the screen while pressing the power button. And guess what! My tablet showed the charging screen. Then I just booted normally. My tablet was just like before!

I have been all over for days on this. I can get into odin mode, but it absolutely will not go into recovery mode. I ran Odin3 v3.0.7 and twrp, no luck, would just lock up. I ran Odin3 3.10.7 and sammmobile factory firmware. This says Pass! but it still just hitches at the title screen. I can't even get it to turn off. Only way is to run it dead or unplug the batt internally. Please help? Is there nothing I can do?

Please I need your help because it does not want to boot. What can I do because I already try to put it on recovery mode and the screen flash one time but then the screen appear again. Someone please HELPPPPPPPPPP

Thanks because I know you want to help but I thing that these does not have resolve . When I installed a the ROM I didnt clear the data or something I just put the phone on recovery mode and then find the ROM and installed it. My phone do not want to put on recovery mode :S. Is there another way to put your phone on recovery mode because I cant and also it does not boot.
flash official rom
Hi
look 1st of all tell the name of the rom that u flashed, and whether it is rooted or not,
if it is official rom without rooting, yellow triangle should not be there, and if you have rooted the phone or if there is any custom ROM, then either you can go for triangle remover, look into the gt-i9100 forum, how to remove triangle, you will find it or either you can go for USB JIG, that u have to purchase, if u r from INDIA and i don't know whether it is allowed or not in this forum, u can share ur no if need to come out on urgent basis.

Unable to boot GT-P6200 in recovery mode

Hi
I cannot get my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (GT-P6200) to boot in recovery mode.
I tried the following:
1) Switch off the Tab.
2) Press the Power + Volume Up buttons simultaneously until I see the "Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus" screen, then release the Power button and keep pressing the Volume Up button. The tab then get's stuck on the Samsung screen, even if I release the Volume Up button. It stays on this screen indefinitely, only option is to reboot by keeping the power button pressed for 5 seconds.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

Same problem
any help ???
On which verison thar ur on???? have u tried to wiping data in stock recovery
??
same problem I'm having with my Samsung Gt-p6200, it just boot-loops to the "samsung galaxy tab 7.0" boot loading screen and hangs.. these happened after i flashed my firmware from stock honeycomb to jellybean(the austria firmware, i think that's been posted in this forum).
here's what happened before the problem:
-I flash the stock honeycomb firmware with the jellybean one that i found here..
-after i flashed using ODIN, the new firmware works great, i was even informed that i have free 50GB worth of dropbox space,
the file was named P6200XXMC3_P6200OXAMC3_ATO
- I have used it for a day, until the battery drains and i have to charge, but when i opened it again, it already does this "boot loop" problem
- i have tried flashing CWM with ODIN(as i've read here somewhere that it might help) and do that wipe cache and factory reset thing but that didnt help solved the problem.
hope anyone could help me, im also thinking flashing it back to it's original stock firmware but I dont have a backup of that and I dont know where to get one, I've been searching the net for two days for that stock rom but all i found are the new jellybean ones and some old ones but is uploaded to hotfile which is now deleted or locked.
I hope you guys could help me out and thanks in advance!
try flashing a new , latest firmware on odin
just try it.

Hello guys! Im also having this same issue.
*Using the same firmware that was posted here in xda because i was having trouble downloading those official jellybean firmwares
*The battery got drained
then if i charge it, it will remain in a "blank slightly illuminated screen"
* after a few munutes, the tab gets really warm.
*but if i dont charge it, it will get drained again because it keeps on turning on itself back to this time to the "galaxy tab plus screen"
I cant access recovery mode.
I can access odin mode and can flash successfully with cwm or the same firmware back but the problem still persist.
I havent tried other firmwares though.
4 days passed already and i cant figure this out
Please help
So I had this happen to me yesterday, where it rebooted randomly on me, only to freeze on the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus screen. I had custom recovery (TWRP) don't know if that matters, but I was able to access it by holding Power+UpVol but keep it held. It would freeze on the same spot but since I was still holding the keys it reboots a second time and this time it would go into recovery.
I then wipes cache and dalvik, no go. Sadly did a full wipe. Still no going past the tab plus text. So I flash MF1 official 4.1.2 firmware (I was previously on 4.1.2 UK official) still no go. Put in latest 2.8 TWRP and booted into it still with some trouble as I mentioned above. Did another wipe and it then hung on blank screen or so I thought. Took a long time to boot and after a long time, and the Android is upgrading message, by some weird chance I was on the MF1 official rom but all my apps settings everything was saved.
Working 100% now and I still don't really know what the hell happened. But if this helps anyone then all the better!
My samsung p6200 is woking almost fine but i am not able to go into the download mode when i press volume down button and power the screen is at samsung logo it stays for a while and then it restarts from there, its the stock rom that's messd up i belive any help how to go into downlod mose other way would b apriciated

[Q] CM 10.1 Permanent Soft Brick?

Running CM 10.1, 06/08 Nightly
I did search the threads and google, but could not find any posts about a phone that works normally except for download and recovery.
Problems:
1. Can't boot into recovery (via apps, power menu, or manually). It gets to the boot logo, and then blank screen and resets. It will keep resetting trying to go into recovery (a battery pull will put it back to normal).
2. Can't stay in download mode. When I put the phone in download mode, it turns off after a couple seconds. I can't ODIN it if it keeps turning off.
3. Power button doesn't work properly (sometimes it works, most of the times it doesn't). Example: I press the power button to close the screen. No response. A few minutes later I might press it, and the screen will close, but come back on and this time with power menu. I took out the button to verify that it wasn't stuck, and tried pressing the actual button inside the phone with the stick. I can feel it click, but it still has the same problems. Pretty sure it's not a stuck button.
What's working:
-Everything else. If I let the phone boot normally, it loads perfectly fine and into cyanogenmod. No issues with voice/data, any apps, or instability. No battery issue. No lag. No crashes. The only issue is with the power button, and my inability to boot into recovery or go into download mode.
History:
-I was experiencing a random reboot problem (and power button issue) from an earlier nightly, and I waited a couple months for a more stable version. The CWM recovery for some reason only worked sometimes. When I did get it to work, I flashed RC5 (format and wipe data, dalvik, cache, factory reset, etc.), which fixed my reboot problem, but not my power button.
-I came across this thread: at plus.google(.com)104277415207525128383/posts/iAVpVPYqMtM and updated the radio, even though the RC5 fixed my random reboot.
-I did try flashing CWM, TWRP, and Stock recoveries (the latest ones, and from CWM/EZ recovery apps), but have not tried CWM Touch. It doesn't seem to matter, it won't boot into recovery.
Perceived Solution:
-I have a plan with Best Buy - I am considering smashing the phone and getting it replaced with a refurb, but would like to avoid that if possible.
Anyone have any ideas? I am okay with the phone as is, but I would like to be able to update CM or to another ROM in the future
Thanks for helping me out!

Thanks for responding; It doesn't boot into recovery at all. Right after holding Vol. Up, Menu + Power, I get the screen with the small text in the corner, so you know it's going to enter recovery. Then the logo appears, except after that the phone either hangs with a blank screen, shuts off, or resets itself.
I think something got corrupted, but I'm not sure how to find out what, or what steps I could take to fix it.

Unfortunately if you can't get into the recovery mode or the Odin mode then you would need to replace the phone. It's bricked.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I've never really heard or seen someone with a "functionally bricked" phone, so I'm not sure what to do.
Before I go ahead and smash it for the insurance replacement, I want to see if anyone else has any ideas..
Like I said, the phone boots normally just fine. Is there some kind of app that can flash files? Or maybe some commands I can enter in the terminal emulator?

Have you tried Odin Mobile Pro? I've never used it myself, but I've heard a lot of good things about from some friends.
It sounds to me like a faulty power button, it isn't hardbricked because your phone is able to boot into recovery and download mode. But If for some reason your power button is stuck in the on position, it will skip booting into recovery and eventually boot out of download mode. Just because the power button physically moves and clicks doesn't mean it can't get stuck, there's obviously something funny going on with it that isn't rom/kernel regulated.
You can try terminal emulator to see if it will work, but I honestly wouldn't do anything in any menu because your phone has the potential to reboot during a process and destroy your phone. Commands are:
su
reboot recovery
su
reboot download
If it's a power button issue, best buy should replace it anyways, you shouldn't have to smash it. Samsung will also fix it under your manufacturer warranty despite it being rooted.

Thanks for the commands; they ended up just shutting the phone off.
Yeah, I did ponder the idea that even though the power button "clicked," it might not necessarily be working. I google searched "galaxy s 3 broken power button" and there was a video with a description where the guy mentioned something about the circuit always being switched "on"
But his phone experienced different symptoms than mine (because the circuit was always switched on, the phone actually restarted itself while in normal operation. This hasn't happened to me).
Is there an app for me to definitely determine which buttons are being registered as they are pressed? Similar to programs that tell you what buttons you're pressing on your keyboard.
I would take it back to Best Buy, but I just don't want to give them any reason to say it was my own fault since I rooted and put a custom ROM on it.
Haha, I'll dunk it in salt water in favor of smashing it
Thanks again for your suggestions and ideas :cyclops:

Will this work on phone that is black screen on boot?
I've got two nexus-s (original no modifications except OTA updates). No battery charging indicator when plugged in and the phones wont boot when the power button is pressed. I tried the power+volume up/down and no difference. I've tried with charged batteries and several different power supply. connecting phone to PC via USB is not recognized by windows ? The phone will get hot on touch after a while plugged into charger and pressing power button but nothing showing on screen.
Both phones within two weeks the same issue as a result of pulling out the battery too early during a shutdown.
I also tried a JIG and it does not boot
I send mine to Samsung and said the powerbutton was broken. They fixed it and set the software back to 2.3.5. So everything works fine now
Verstuurd van mijn Nexus S met Tapatalk
I've been stuck with about the same problem for the last few days. My non rooted stock phone gets stuck at the google colored 'X' boot screen and my power button is broken. Today I tried playing with it again and somehow I'm able to get to the bootloader screen by holding power + up (makes me wonder if my power button is really broken). Anyway, the situation gets even more weird because once I get to the bootloader screen none of the buttons work and my phone is frozen at the bootloader screen. I'm going to try to use the root toolkit that was suggested earlier and I'll see how that goes. I'm thinking that if I can get the phone to boot up I can somehow root it and have all the issues solved but I have no idea if that's possible from where I'm stuck. Any other ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm almost positive that this is happening because USB Debugging isn't enabled. I went ahead and tried rebooting the phone with adb and fastboot via root toolkit but it still says device not found.
Again any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Boot-up
I was trying to roll back to android 2.3.6 from 4.1.1, I used a website for instructions on downgrading firmware.. i followed every step but on my mobile screen i'm saw "FASTBOOT MODE-NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMAGE" so after rebooting it i get an error on the cmd that "archieve does not contain boot.sig , recovery.sig & system.sig. after this the phone just shows the boot-up screen and nothing else. It doesnt even get connected to the computer.. plz help

[Q] soft brick vibration issue

So while trying to put on a new ROM (I've rommed and done custom recoveries and radios on this phone before) I had TWRP recovery on it and the ROM I was going to wanted CWM on it, so I flashed that and on battery it will show Samsung logo then go into a 2 second vibrate boot loop.
None of the button combos work. I ordered a jig on ebay and it flashes download mode for about a second before it flashes again and goes into the 2 second vibrate mode again. I tried to go from jig to Odin and it saw it for a split second, but disconnected/failed as soon as it started looping.
I read about the power button issue and the behavior matches, but I know I was the one that messed this thing up.
Is the JTag repair service my only option at this point?
I got an S4 so I'm just trying to get this revived to get rid of it so too expensive and I'll just sell it for parts.
thanks in advance for the help!

The reason I dismissed that was because I actually did it twice.the first time I was able to get into odin.
So of course the next time I did it, I told it to reboot into recovery and that was the last command I gave it. Since recovery is hosed I think that's why it's just looping.
I guess it could be the power button but I think because I hosed recovery, it's just not booting.
This phone has a separate recovery partition. So even if you hosed the recovery it would still boot. Theory here, like I said I've never seen anyone report a recovery bootloop. I think it's just a timing issue. Power button happened to get stuck when you where flashing something. The fact that it won't hold DL mode further leads to the simple solution.
You got a stuck power button.
Isn't the sop for this problem a battery pull? If you take the battery out and put it back in and the phone tries to turn on by itself(lights or vibration) then it's a faulty power button.

makes sense guys, that's what it does. Guess it just so happened to crap out right when I was messing with it. Thank you all, I'll head that route and see if I can get it revived.
It indeed revived with a take apart and some power button fiddling. Thank you all very much!
