Download and install nexus root toolkit, have it restart your phone to recovery mode, then flash another rom.

Will this work on phone that is black screen on boot?
I've got two nexus-s (original no modifications except OTA updates). No battery charging indicator when plugged in and the phones wont boot when the power button is pressed. I tried the power+volume up/down and no difference. I've tried with charged batteries and several different power supply. connecting phone to PC via USB is not recognized by windows ? The phone will get hot on touch after a while plugged into charger and pressing power button but nothing showing on screen.
Both phones within two weeks the same issue as a result of pulling out the battery too early during a shutdown.
I also tried a JIG and it does not boot
I send mine to Samsung and said the powerbutton was broken. They fixed it and set the software back to 2.3.5. So everything works fine now

I've been stuck with about the same problem for the last few days. My non rooted stock phone gets stuck at the google colored 'X' boot screen and my power button is broken. Today I tried playing with it again and somehow I'm able to get to the bootloader screen by holding power + up (makes me wonder if my power button is really broken). Anyway, the situation gets even more weird because once I get to the bootloader screen none of the buttons work and my phone is frozen at the bootloader screen. I'm going to try to use the root toolkit that was suggested earlier and I'll see how that goes. I'm thinking that if I can get the phone to boot up I can somehow root it and have all the issues solved but I have no idea if that's possible from where I'm stuck. Any other ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I've tried using the root toolkit and followed the initial setup, but I'm getting a no device found message when I try the final test. I'm almost positive that this is happening because USB Debugging isn't enabled. I went ahead and tried rebooting the phone with adb and fastboot via root toolkit but it still says device not found.
Again any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Boot-up
I was trying to roll back to android 2.3.6 from 4.1.1, I used a website for instructions on downgrading firmware.. i followed every step but on my mobile screen i'm saw "FASTBOOT MODE-NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMAGE" so after rebooting it i get an error on the cmd that "archieve does not contain boot.sig , recovery.sig & system.sig. after this the phone just shows the boot-up screen and nothing else. It doesnt even get connected to the computer.. plz help

Hi everybody,
my Nexus S power button is no longer working, it's unresponsive, when i turn the phone off removing the battery, and then put the battery back in, the phone turns on itself after a few seconds.
I tried to see if it was a software problem resetting the phone using a jig to go in download mode, flashing with odin and installing a gingerbread stock firmware, but the problem is still the same.
I would give it to the assistance center (the phone is still in warranty) but the bootloader is unlocked.
I can't lock back the bootloader, when i go to bootloader (using the command "adb reboot bootloader" since the button is not working) the bootloader loads but remains frozen, i can't move in menu using volume buttons and if i try with the command "fastboot devices" i just get the "waiting for devices" message.
Can you help me please?
I was having a problem with my computer recognizing my device. When I was in bootloader fastboot would not work, but found out that adb did when it shouldn't. It allowed me to reflash bootloader and then fastboot worked again. Also if your using win7/8 need the newest drivers there is actually two one for when the phone is in USB debugging to use ADB and another driver for bootloader to use fastboot, that could be another problem.
I have uninstalled all drivers, reinstalled the one for the adb interface loading the os normally and it works fine, but when i reboot in bootloader mode the device isn't recognized at all neither like unknown device in device manager so i can't reinstall the drivers and apparently can't have any kind of communication
Is there any way to lock the bootloader without using the fastboot command?
Just send it to samsung. I had the similar problem 2 weeks ago and they were able to fix the power button in less than 2 hours without touching the software.
Yeah i think i'll do that... Do you think they'll still acknowledge the warranty if they see that the bootloader is unlocked?

In my area samsung acknowledges as long as you have the official receipt, a warranty card, and the 1-yr warranty seal is still in-tact.
i too had the same problem. like others say it is the problem caused by power button stuck. But if you want to install stock rom or to get into fast boot mode try this.....!!
First, Remove your phone's battery to turn off your device, then re-insert your battery. According to your problem'the phone will automatically turn on. When the google logo appears, press the volume key down continuously till phone boots and show the desktop. The phone will enter to safe mode. Now try your power button. It would work....!!!!
Thanks.

hello..
I had the same problem of frozen fast boot and power button. But when I get my phone to safe mode, the phone starts responding. Why is that..please help me out....
hi all,
I recently returned my tab 2 7.0 (3110) to stock firmware from sammobile, after reading a few tutorials and experience of flashing a few devices i downloaded the firmware, extracted and flashed through odin 1.85, everything went ok and the device rebooted.
the device starts up, makes the standard sound and shows the boot logo.but it just keeps cycling the boot logo.
i cant seem to get the device into any mode, recovery or download, it just ignores all vol up and down presses and continues to boot.
any help you can offer is appreciated.
If i can get anything to work in the mean time, i will update.
Have you tried holding those buttons for 10 seconds?
Hold the buttons until the screen turns off.
Resolved now had to let the battery run out, plugged the charger in then managed to get into the e3 recovery, did a factory reset and it booted fine.

Hi, my Samsung note 10.1 is stuck at the start logo. I googled it and looked at solutions on this site but my situation seems more hopeless than others I've read about. Firstly, I have never rooted this and it should be running ICS. I had left my (working) tablet for about 10 hours and tried to activate the screen when I picked it up. I pressed the power button which gave me the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 logo which stayed on the screen and wouldn't budge but when I held the power and volume buttons, it would go off after 4 or five seconds only to come on again. I have looked at these and other forums and have tried a hard re-set but I just get the same logo appearing again and again. I couldn't actually turn it off, so I opened it and disconnected the battery. This has made no difference. I removed the SD card while I tried every permutation of pressing buttons but all to no avail. Please help. Is this now permanently dead? I would love to do a re-set and don't care about losing stuff but that doesn't work.????

Yes, that's the method to get into download mode. You need to press them both at the same time.

When you press the On/Off + Volume Up buttons at the same time you need to hold them until the writing shows up. Once you see the Samsung logo then let the buttons go. If you release the buttons before that the device will just do a regular boot instead.

I have the exact same issue, stuck at screen, also just got it yesterday. I believe it is due to kitkat OTA, as I was running 4.1.2 and was not planning to update. I think the tablet somehow updated itself.
---------- Post added at 01:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 PM ----------
I also tried flashing various recovery, including the stock recovery, TWRP, CWM. The furthest I get to the recovery is the android boot logo, and it reboots back to the "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" logo screen
I think it would be fine if I can hard reset the device, but no dice for now.
Going to try flashing older 4.1.2 rom later. Hope that works.

Thanks for this, it would explain why my 10.1 suddenly became useless without me doing anything to it. I've read that the KIt Kat update was only made available to the wi-fi and 3G versions and that installing it on the Wi-Fi only could brick it!
Can you point me in the direction of a guide to trying what you've done? Otherwise this is going back to Samsung to fix for silly money, no doubt.
Turn off the tablet completely. Then, press the Volume Up and On/Off buttons at the same time for a few seconds until you see the writings come up (most likely the Samsung logo). As soon as you see the writings let the buttons go. That will get you into the Recovery mode. Do a Factory Reset and reboot.
You have to set up everything after doing this but at least you'll get your tablet back.

Nope, apparently after asking around , mosts owners that bricked their device this way, can't enter recovery mode. It just shows the android logo that supposedly leads to the recovery option for a few secs, and restarts. I think its an issue with the new bootloader 4.4 is bundled with, that only afflicts a small number of devices. I even have a colleague at work that had the same problem after auto updating, but somehow after multiple reboots getting stuck at the logo screen, it now works properly, and boots up with 4.4 instead of the previous os.

Nope, thats my colleague's tablet. At my workplace, most use note 10.1 tablet, so i had a generous sampling. Most upgraded without incident, but some, like me and a few others, are all suffering the same issue. All within weeks of the kitkat update rollout i my country.

I still don't know why you can't get into the Recovery mode with the Vol. Up + On/Off?
Do you hold the buttons until you see the logo comes up or you let it go before that?

I have been using custom and stock recovery on my almost 2 year old note 10.1. Pretty sure I did not make a mistake pressing it, its just that the recovery mode loads and fail. I see the android recovery logo for a sec or two, then it reboots before showing the recovery menu. So this boot loop prevents most people from reseting/wipe from the recovery menu.
But its rather nonsensical to assume a guy who knows how to flash custom recovery on his almost 2 year old note 10.1 doesn't know how to enter the recovery mode, don't you think?

I agree. Well, I couldn't find any information regarding your situation. Sorry pal. I wish you luck.
I think that I can tell you an old experience I had. I was on stock Jelly Bean. It wasn't this type of a problem but maybe it might help somebody. Here's what happened:
I was using my tablet in the afternoon and I pressed the power button to close the screen. Then I left. After a while I came back and tried turning on my tablet. It wasn't turning on. It wasn't reacting to anything. Neither the power button, nor the charger. I searched online and found out that you could hold your finger on the screen while pressing the power button. And guess what! My tablet showed the charging screen. Then I just booted normally. My tablet was just like before!

I have been all over for days on this. I can get into odin mode, but it absolutely will not go into recovery mode. I ran Odin3 v3.0.7 and twrp, no luck, would just lock up. I ran Odin3 3.10.7 and sammmobile factory firmware. This says Pass! but it still just hitches at the title screen. I can't even get it to turn off. Only way is to run it dead or unplug the batt internally. Please help? Is there nothing I can do?

I've broken my phone! I was rooted, and was installing a custom rom. It worked fine for a few hours, and now the phone won't boot up in normal, recovery or fastboot modes. All I get is the android logo and then a white screen for a few seconds, and this repeats until i get fed up and turn it off again.
My device is a Vodafone 785 and my pc is running Windows 7 with the latest drivers installed and updated.
When I plug the phone into the computer, it tries to register but the flashtool says the device is not recognized, so I can't re-install my recovery image.
I've been at this for about three weeks now, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this working again. Can someone please help?

Hi, try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/vodafone-smart-4-mini-killed-vodafone-t2869185
Yes I tried that one and most of the other threads about this damn phone. It won't boot in recovery. I've tried Power button and volume up AND Power button and volume down. All I get is android logo for a few seconds and white screen for another few seconds and this will loop until the end of time. Using SP Flashtool, the computer won't recognize the device when I plug in the USB with either the battery removed or inserted into the phone.

Hello Guys,
My OnePlus One screen broke, it was in my drawer for more than 15 days without charge, i connected charger for 1 hour it just went from 1% to 5% but i didnt thought much about it as my priority was to change screen, i bought touch+lcd with frame and replaced it myself, but it wasnt powering up then i tried putting the backpanel on, it then booted up to the home screen, but the battery indicator wasnt moving up i powered off the phone after that it never turned on, i researched a bit and found out the after long period of time if you dont charge your phone might have problem charging and there was one suggestion which i followed and that was charge OPO using usb cable attached to PC, i left it for somewhat 7hours and it powered on i thought it might be the problem of ROM i flashed official H2OS (regret selecting this rom) using TWRP, it was a catastrophe my phone wont Enter Bootloader or Recovery, and wont even boot to system, it seemed i hardbricked my device, i used Oneplus one recovery tool 64GB to bring my device to life but after that no matter what i do my device wont enter to bootloader as the volume up button stopped working too : tried advance reboot, powerup+volumeup, opo toolkit.
Help me, i want to root my device and unlock bootloader once again.

Is your volume up button actually broken or does it still work and can you boot into something? If it still works (hold on, this idea might be a little crazy xD) you could try completely hard bricking (no joke! you cannot get into Qualcomm download mode with a booting device) and restoring it with the msm8974downloadtool from the oneplus one unbricking guide which should theoretically fix everything that is wrong.

Even If my volume button dosent work then why wont it enter bootloader via advance reboot it just restarts to system after selecting reboot to bootloader,so i should hard brick my device once again, P.S. i have done that twice before though.
