[Q] Official Recoveries??? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

So this phone has been out for sometime now and there still is a lack of support on the Official Recoveries. I am running the CWM one and it reminds me of when I had my HTC Hero lol. I see that there is progress with TWRP, which I usually prefer, but it still isn't an official recovery. Does anyone know why this is?

How is twrp not official? Our recovery for vzw m8 is on their website. Does that mean its not an official one? Idk

TWRP is official, it's supported by Team Win on their site.

You can try, depending on your ROM, but I seriously doubt anything you want to happen will come out of that. You might be stuck in a boot loop, it could brick it, it could just screw up all kinds of stuff. VERY bad idea in general. My advice:
Be patient.
im still running HTC Mecha.. I just used Revolutionary to root.. and still have everything running good on my stock ROM.

Mecha is the HTC codename for the device, much like the EVO 4G is known as the Supersonic and the Incredible S/Incredible2 as the Vivo/Vivow, respectively.
just be patient. Usually a workable, root version will be released shortly before or after the OTA goes live. I would not except an OTA on a rooted phone. just keep an eye out on XDA.
Since you're rooted and stock the best thing to do is to wait until they release a version of it so you can install it via recovery like already mentioned. If you accept an OTA update while rooted bad things will most likely occur.
You will not he able to install an ota if your rooted. This is due to the custom recovery. When the update checks the recovery, it will fail.

Modified sofyware

I rooted my friends relay a long time ago. Now he wants to update but it's saying he can't because the software is modified. I'm guessing this is because he is root. Any help on what to do? He has no clue how to do any of this and i am no longer near him

which version does he use? coz that is normal, there is no official update anymore since JB 4.1.2 , there is an inofficial rom in the other thread with JB 4.3 that he could flash
otherwise if he has older ICS and wanna update to jb 4.1.2, i dont know how to do this
He's on 4.1.2... That's the latest? I don't know if he will be able to figure out how to flash a recovery and flash a rom lol. Thanks for the info though

according to t-mobile it is the latest one.
(unfortunately i can not post links)
yes as LitD mentioned it is the latest, and the last official. thats why ota wont work anymore.
here is 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463661
ChameleonOS is only one option for getting Android 4.3 on the Relay. CyanogenMod's 10.2 nightlies are now running 4.3.1, ChaOS is based on CM 10.2. Just letting you know of the options out there. No one has done any other images for our phone as of yet.

Best path to get current.

Hi,
My wife has this phone and I'd like to get her updated to a more current rom, preferably CM 11.
She's currently bootloader unlocked with twrp 2.5.0.0 and running an older 4.3 rom based on cm 10.2 (eclipse). Baseband is vanquish_bp_100730.160.64.15p
We never took the update that got rid of the root or bootloader unlock, but now I hear that's been unlocked again so I figured its time.
Should I just fastboot back to stock and update or is there an easier way for us still unlocked users to get a current twrp and CM 11? Please advise.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
you could use this, it will take you str8 to KK. there are other methods and rsd, but i find this easiest, and i maintain it
i highly recommend using the "data wipe" script, given your situation.
afterwards, install your recovery and flash su.zip.
Profit

there are snapshots and stable builds for the jelly bean boot loader but not kit kat yet
So if I upgrade to the kk bootloader, and then root with that utility, will my bootloader still be unlocked? What version of twrp should I install? Should I just chill out on stock with root and unlocked until CM11 is stable?

Yes, once the bootloader has been unlocked, you could have taken the 9.18 OTA, which patches the EXPLOIT allowing the unlocking, and you still would have been unlocked.
If you took the KitKat OTA, you would still be unlocked. Once unlocked, it stays unlocked since it's a physical change in the phone (blowing an eFuse). You can't set the eFuse to an unblown state. Kind of like a light bulb or the old screw-in fuses for a fuse box in your house. Once the filament in a light bulb breaks, or the fuse blows, it's "blown" for good.
So, once the bootloader was unlocked on your wife's phone, you could have taken any OTA and you would have been safe. No need to go to KK OTA and then unlock it again because it's still unlocked.
You've been safe this whole time.
I ended up putting the latest snapshot build of CM11 on after using the utility to flash a newer twrp. Working like a champ. I'll wait for cm11 to get stable on the kk bootloader before upgrading that. Thanks for all the help!

Always a good idea to update your recovery to the latest.
Root is IN the rom. I pretty much guarantee that any rom you flash via recovery will be pre-rooted.
If you're unsure of the processes for anything, have a read of all the sticky threads linked in my signature

according to the official thread:
End Of Support
Quote:
Project Status: No Longer Updated
As I mentioned before, I have a lot of new important projects in my real life. I am very happy to abandon this project for real life alternatives.
CWM is a dead project for now, until some dev resurrects it. I was about to do, until these new projects came.
Current version will probably work a while for many devices. Some devices with new ROM installers could have issues. Just use TWRP or the CM Simple Recovery
If the current version works for you, there is no reason you don't use it though. No need to ***** in all threads because it doesn't work for you. Just move on to other alternatives.

but I see that it has been updated 2 days ago...
Philz is good and it works for now. I too had issues with TWRP on my S3, That's why I moved to Philz on that device and brought Philz to the N5.
We may see bug fixes with Philz if the device maintainers notice them. For example, the update 2 days ago was a bug I found and fixed. So if there is something broken, we may see fixes. New features - nope. So lets see what happens when L comes out with its default device encryption. I'm not jumping ship until I have to.

well, most recoveries arent going to be in a flash in recovery form. if its in a zip, you might have to extract it and use fastboot to flash the actual twrprecovery.img or you can use the flashify app(if you have root).

no, its 2.8 http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/205
anyways, im using an old one as well(2.6.something), and everything works fine.
rom and gapps. most roms will need the google apps to be flashed as well, since its illegal to include them in publically distributed custom roms.
the only reason why i havent flash a new rom again because the rom that im currently running is good doesnt really give problems like random reboots
the only thing is its an older version.
and its really tiring thing to start all over again.
anyways any good rom out there?
its close to stock rom with minor tweaks
im on purity rom btw 4.4.2
