hi all,
I just found out i can't make a call, it hangs up right after i call someone, i also cant send text messages, mobile internet is working though. and i can receive calls and texts.
i'm using trips ics rom, i thought it was the roms fault so i flashed hypersensation but that also doesnt work, i also used 2 different radios, both dont work.
what can i do?
if i haven't provided enough info just ask me and ill answer.
has anyone got a solution?
It's really important to me.
Have you tried a factory reset?

Check your APN settings to make sure they match your carrier.

messed a bit with the apn settings, lost my data connection. wiping everything and flashing again, hoping it fixes it.
problem solved, seems that I didn't pay my bill so I can't call or text anymore.

Issue : When I attend an incoming call, I'm not able to hear the other party's voice. I can hear only my own voice back, but they say they can hear me just fine.
Contrast : No such issue when I make an outgoing call. All voices are just very fine.
When it started : Went back to stock 2.3.5 Indian ROM and restored from the Titanium backup taken while on Titanium S V2.1. But this is just the lst thing i remember doing before the issue.
Troubleshoots tried:
Software: Factory reset, on stock 2.3.5, and Titanium Rom with nothing installed other than the pure base OS.
Hardware : tried cleaning the mic opening (ya i know, but just a try), clicked the volume rocker a few times during the call.
Both did not help.
Google: There were 3-4 exactly similar issues on other models, but no one could find a fix, nor an update on how it went.
I dont think this is a hardware issue as the voice is fine when I make the call.
Guys... help me out....
Now that's weird. Don't worry we'll try to solve it.
Further you can troubleshoot by:
1. To rule our any possibility of the Receiving speaker being faulty, open your dialer and input this code (*#0*#). Now select 'Receiver(White)' from it. You should hear continuous sound from your Receiving Speaker, if not then its not working.
2. Trying to make a call using a landline phone so as remove the possibility of caller having any network issues and use a SIM from a different network provider on your handset to ascertain if its a network problem.
3. Is there a small popup with a heading something like 'In call volume' when using the volume rocker while receiving an incoming call ?
4. And does it at least show increase or decrease in the bar on the popup of 'In Call volume' graphically when you press corresponding volume rocker keys ?
Do post here what were the outcomes and also if you find what was wrong.
Thanks for your suggestions, Eagle..
1. To rule our any possibility of the Receiving speaker being faulty, open your dialer and input this code (*#0*#). Now select 'Receiver(White)' from it. You should hear continuous sound from your Receiving Speaker, if not then its not working.
Ans: Sound recieving perfectly. (too loud actually ;-) )
2. Trying to make a call using a landline phone so as remove the possibility of caller having any network issues and use a SIM from a different network provider on your handset to ascertain if its a network problem.
Ans: Tried from almost a dozen networ/phone cominations. No joy.
3. Is there a small popup with a heading something like 'In call volume' when using the volume rocker while receiving an incoming call ?
Ans : Yes, the usual volume level bar appears.
4. And does it at least show increase or decrease in the bar on the popup of 'In Call volume' graphically when you press corresponding volume rocker keys ?
Ans : Yes, the volume works fine. I can hear my own voice back very clearly, both in the headset and loud speaker .
Nothing works so far.. any other software related issue sthat u can think of..?
So one thing for sure your receiving speaker works fine and so is your volume rocker.
Usually most of the software related issues should be resolved when you clear cache, clear dalvik cache, factory reset, flash stock ROM and kernel on your handset.
I think you have already done all of these, right ?
I think some thing is wrong with your radio i.e. motherboard, you might have to go to the service center.
The problem may also be due to use of faulty Jack headphone, that galaxy R has.
Do check for that...!!

I was in office all this while and all i tried was restoring my CWM backups of all the ROMs I had and then making factory reset, clear cache of it.
Just reached home and flashed the stock 2.3.6 XWLA4 via Odin and made a factory reset, clear cache with nothing on it.. and guess what ?!
IT WORKED...
so far tried from a landline and a mobile, and mic works.. testing still going on..
The only only difference i could find was.. all my backups had root and now since I flashed via Odin, its unrooted and thats the only diff..
Cooleagle/anyone, do you think that could have made the difference..

OH MAN !!!!!
that was exactly the problem....
plugged in my headphone, plugged out and the NEXT CALL.... the problem recurred. as mentioned in the other thread, i plugged in and out the headphone a couple of times (without reboot) and then it started working..
I never knew the headphone jack of SGR had a regular problem like this...
I never used a hands-free for calls and only a couple of days back started listening songs from phone..
But i still wonder how after every CWM restore, followed by a reboot, did not solve the problem before..
Thanks a lot dude...

Thanks for posting that.
In his case it was not working for outgoing as well as incoming calls but in sarun's case he could use the handset for outgoing calls.
So it seems to affect selectively and not the same in every case.
Do you think I should put this in the FAQ's because it seems some handsets have this bug ?

Yea Cool_eagle.
Put in FAQ, but in exception cases or under some other heading, coz it will give wrong impression to users. As the user might take it that this problem occurs on all Galaxy R. (I am not facing this error on my handset)
Also put that Galaxy R shutdown immideatly when it tries to access the network.
Put the heading as some known problems with Galaxy R

Even i faced this problem. Whem I'm listening to music on headphones and a call comes, I remove the headphones and take the call, and sometimes I cant hear anything. Even outgoing doesnt work.
Pluggin in the headphone and removing it solves the issue most of the time. Else a reboot has worked for me everytime.
If it gets too annoying take it to service center, Even i faced the same fears as u but I finally took it (But that was cos of a different issue)
Keep us posted, Gud luck
I have the strangest issue. I get disconnected from calls in the middle of conversation if I'm using any of these main custom ROMs.
Blaz3r
CyanogenMod 10
Blaze Tweaked ICS 2.2
But If I'm using a stock ICS ROM or "Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (Posted by tthaz777)" everything is very stable and no disconnects.
I have full bar with all the ROMs and get perfect data speed and everything else works fine. I'm using the same exact apps on the ROMs as I do on the stock, so I don't think it's related to a particular app. It seems as if TMobile scans the sessions at their network level and disconnects the call because my connection is not providing some information/call data they need. The disconnect can happen as fast as a few seconds or after a 10 minutes or so, just random.
Is anyone else experiencing this ?
I'm currently running below and everything is stable with no drop calls. Just can't figure out why this happens when install any other ROM. and Yes I always to do a full wipe before install.
Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (Posted by tthaz777) with merwin's scorched-kernel-t769-ics v1.0.29
Well the 4.0.4 thazz build should be pretty stable as its essentially stock. That being said my wife (who is INCREDIBLY picky on how her phone functions... I've yet to get her to try something not TW-based) has been using Tweaked since before it was even posted and uses her phone as a phone constantly (... lot's of out-of-state sisters that she's always yapping with) and has yet to report an issue. I am unclear why you would be having these issues with the particular specificity you are experiencing... especially if kernels are remaining consistent across TW-based builds anyway. Without me being able to recreate it on my end or a logcat taken during the premature disconnect on your end I'm at a loss. If nothing else, at least you found something that works for you, so I suppose it a could be worse.
Sorry for the troubles.
Not all stock apps or play store apps work with 4.1, I had the same problem when I let my battery app manage my data. It would wait to connect sometimes up to 20-30 secs later after waking to make a call. Check all your apps your using for compatibility, and when you wake your phone give it a sec before calling out. If your in a bad area the alternating of edge/3g/HSDPA+ doesn't help either. I stopped allowing my battery app data control and that solved 90% of my issues, sometimes it still does it but only when I'm in the boonies.

LOL I am using T-Mobile service with this device, so if that's the case for you I would expect a few drops from time to time
On a serious note, drops can happen with full bars for a variety of reasons. Tower is overloaded (signal shows strong but can't connect/gets dropped), person you have called drops you (calling someone in NY that has AT&T? ), bad/faulty sim card (free to get checked and replaced), etc. No cell phone/ROM is drop call immune, even stock (and yes even those people using Verizon). FWIW, I haven't dropped a single call in over a month using Thomas' PA and Tweaked. That's pretty good considering that's including the holidays and I didn't go home this year.
Thanks for the replies guys. What drives me crazy is that I have absolutely no dropped calls when using the stock ICS ROM, but as soon as I load any of the ICS ROMs mentioned the voice call gets disconnected periodically. Same Location, Same Apps, Same Calling Number, nothing changes except the ROM.
I'm fairly technical and good at troubleshooting but not an expert in reading the Android Logcat and don't know what to look for in the log. I have loaded the UVLH5 radio after flashing the the custom ROMs to see if that might be the cause but same thing.... I wondering if I need to try an older Radio...
Like I said all is running great with Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777) + merwin's scorched-kernel-t769-ics v1.0.29 OC to 1728 but not knowing what's causing the drops is just driving me crazy....
To test I just load the ROM and then call one of the free news numbers (ABC News etc 650-293-9114) and put the phone on speakerphone, and yes I have tried varies other numbers... JUST WEIRD
Try finding an app of the app store to make logging easier like logcat or something. Then run the app and make a call. If it doesnt disconnect, restart the log. When it does disconnect, end the log and copy+paste it here. That is the only real way to find out whats up.
So the problem started again this AM and it's been fine since I flashed Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777). I hear the hang up tone and calls would just disconnect in the middle of conversation with perfect signal strength. Nothing new was added to the phone, so only way to fix it was to reflash it again from a nan backup.
This is driving me crazy. Attached is a short logcat from right before the call dropped, could one of you experts check it out and tell me if you see anything strange going on....
Thanks

any chance you can put that on pastebin instead of a pdf? just post a link to it. It could be helpful to a dev as I see that some info is spread out to different pages and is cut off.
Also did you use an existing sim from a previous phone when getting this phone or did you get a brand new sim? I know various issues arise when using an old sim with this phone. My old sim had issues and wouldn't connect to wifi calling and it was only 10 months old.

Here's the pastebin link. Thanks
http://pastebin.com/SCBx2jNS
When I initially had the issue I ordered a new sim hoping it would resolved it and that didn't help, so I flashed ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777) which is pretty much the stock with bloatware removed and that resolved the problem and not a single dropped call for a month and it just started again. It's so weird as if Mobile is looking for something in the connection/session and forces a disconnect.

Ordering a new sim doesn't mean getting a compatible sim. Have you taken the phone to a Tmo store and had someone check it out? They could've sent you another partially compatible sim for it. If I knew more about reading the logs I would love to help you out....
Hi, guys.
I recently had my gps abruptly go out and did a bunch of stuff to my phone in an attempt to rectify it.
to include:
running "gps sgtatus" tools and recalibrating/downloading agps data
tightening all the screws on the back of the phone
inserting a piece of paper below the contact plate for the gps antenna
restoring back to a stock 4.1.2 rom via odin just to access the stupid samsung service mode and doing a nv rebuild
none of these worked. i've basically accepted that my phone will never navigate me anywhere ever again.
HOWEVER, now my signal is going crazy.
Ever since i did the odin flash, I've had:
dropped coverage to "no signal" or "emergency calls only" every five minutes or so with no consistency
virtually unusable sms, with a single push maybe once every 10 minutes
anytime i do attempt to flash something fresh, a signal outage of at least five minutes ocurrs during the initial configuration of the rom
what i've attempted to do to rectify this so far is:
reinstall just about every nandroid restore package i've made since before the odin flash
install every rom i have on my phone, anywhere from JB to KK and touchwiz to aosp
install every baseband i could find, to include MB1, MF1, and ML1 (via recovery .zips)
what the heck can i do?
everything is so unreliable that i basically have a glorified wifi-only device about 80% of the time.
The phone stats:
SCHI535
VRBMF1 modem (had ML1 at one point via recovery .zip, but reverted back)
ParanoidAndroid 4.4 BETA1
Sounds like to me you just a got a bad egg. How long have you had the phone? Honestly with all you have done so far I would just Odin stock, reset flash counter, lock the bootloader and get a replacement from VZW. This sounds like a hardware failure.

i've had it since last april. like i said, i'm okay with the gps not working for now. if i could just get the thing reliable for the next week, that would be great.
i highly doubt multiple hardware components would fail so close to one another, especially with me seeing the side effects immediately after flashing via odin.
how about this:
i'm trying to eliminate all variables, so i'll go as far back to stock as possible.
would going all the way back to 4.0.4 VRALG1 with a locked bootloader remove any software issues?

With all due respect, if you go back to stock and the problem Is not fixed its a hardware problem. Simple as that. And no going back to 4.0.4 will not help. Also seeing these problems arise right after flashing stock proves its not a software problem because if it was it would be fixed by flashing stock.

i did not have/make a backup, but i think i got the IMEI straightened out.
and i'm not focused on the gps issues currently. i just need to make/receive calls.
i would like to reiterate that, at this time, my phone does the following:
has a fully functioning LTE connection any time that i would ordinarily have one
receives sms and mms with absolutely no delay
rarely if ever sends sms/mms at all
makes emergency (911) calls with no issue
will dial out for ordinary calls, but never actually connects or begins ringing
this makes me think it couldn't be hardware failure if the antenna still works for functions like sms reception and outgoing emergency calls.
is there anything else i could try?

try putting a random micro sim card or a regular sim trimmed to fit micro sim in the sim slot, this works for the d2vzw and d2lte roms on the straight talk s3, we were having the same problem with these roms but a sim fixes data for us, maybe it will for you too, doesn't have to be a working or active sim just needs a sim in the slot to connect for some reason, hope this works for you

Misc data usage now at 40%, that's a lot higher than it was.
At 30% right now with one hour screen on time.
Pretty bad, haha

Tried out the lollipop rom, it was solid until it froze on making calls. Flashed back to my backup of CM11 M12. I'll seriously wait until the bugs are worked out. Spotty calling doesn't make me want to run it at all
From my CM11 S3
Hi Everyone,
I'm still on an old CM10.1 masta build from 7-30-2013 and I'd like to get back into things with these CM12 alpha builds. How should I go about this? I know I need to update my firmware/baseband (still on MF1) as well, but what should be my order?
Recovery - nandroid
Flash - Firmware/baseband
Reboot - to make sure all is well
Back to recovery
Wipe data/cache/factory reset
Flash - rom/gapps/SU
Done?
Then just dirty flash subsequent builds?
Thanks for your help, I've had solid performance from this old rom but looking forward to an update.

flash the ROM and Gapps THEN do your wipes, if you don't you might flash the ROM and when you reboot it might be buggy and you might think its the ROM when it might be something left behind from before so do your wipe so you don't run into that; always flash then wipe before reboot, sometimes you can skip that step and flash one over the other without wiping to fix issues in what you are flashing new but that's for experienced people to play around with and doesn't always work, anyway fkash rom and gapps then wipe and reboot

Ambient Display
So, this is in regards to the CM12 alphas, and since I don't have 10 posts yet, gotta post here.
Ambient Display was merged, which is pretty sweet, except it seems to randomly display for no reason. I don't have any notifications showing up, so why is it coming up? It can display several times in a minute, or go several minutes too, it seems pretty random. Only thing I can think of is it's picking up subtle vibrations and thinking I've picked it up?
no incoming calls
Anyone else having an issue with no incomming calls? Ive realised since a few months on cm11 i get no incomming calls unless its a private number.. I would love to use cm12 but theres the same issue. Seems to affect people using this phone outside the US like i am. I saw someone mention this in the main thread but im stuck posting here since im a new member :/
Yes my girlfriends phone after i installed cm11 on it. Never did figure it out.
Top and bottom mic swapped in skype and other such apps?!
First off my last no calls issue was solved with this file. i cant post links so maybe search d2gsm_rilblobs.zip
Ever since I've used CM on my S3 i noticed during my skype calls when i hold the phone to my ear the other person doesn't hear me well especially when there's allot of ambient noise!
I soon discovered that when using any app that records audio it uses the top mic only. but in regular phone calls through the network its normal using the bottom mic! Does anyone experience this? i mean it works fine and if u don't pay attention it may not bother you, but as an audio technician i notice these things! u can try if u have skype using the test call talk in the top and then bottom and you'll see the top is louder when its played back.
I went back to stock and the mic worked at the bottom as it should.. maybe there's a fix for this floating around? I have the Verizon S3 but if anyone notices this i would love to know its not just me!!
On masta's CM12 nightlies, I'm having an issue with data between flashes. When I dirty flash a nightly over the previous one, the phone refuses to connect to mobile data, even though everything is apparently fine. Anyone else have this issue?

You try turning airplane mode off then back on? Make sure your mobile network is set to lte or 3g and not global.
