Last night, I went into the pool with my S5, and me and a couple friends took selfies, and the phone was in the pool for maybe 15 minutes. After, I put the phone out (it was still wet) and it stayed there for maybe another 45 minutes. I dried the phone out with a towel, and came home, turned it off, and let it sit on on my stand for a bit. And my phone worked fine.
I turned my phone on in the morning, and the phone popped up with a, "SD card has been unmounted unexpectedly" but the SD card was still in.. later in the day I took off the case, and the back cover was covered in moisture. I wiped the moisture off, popped open the cover, and checked the SD card which was still in. I took it out, and put it back in, and it worked fine.
I checked the battery, and the water damage indicator was pink. But the phone works fine, and I don't notice any malfunctioning in the camera, screen, or performance. What does this mean? Is there water damage?

There can be something damaged, you may not know it just yet till you use something that might not work properly.
Got insurance, use it if they find something.

Water damage is not cover by warranty.
It's sad, they sell the devices and even show them on TV getting wet but the fine print in the warranty and the carriers have said they are not covered.
Basically treat the phones as you would any regular phone and consider any "water resistant" claims they have as maybe a bonus in case it ever did get wet.
Also keep in mind the phone is only rated to go so deep and be wet for so long, though I consider all useless since it's not covered by warranty for water damage still.
Insurance claim, with deductible, would be only option if it's damaged. Otherwise if it's working consider yourself lucky.

Was about to say that. Take out the battery and put the phone and battery separately in some uncooked jasmine (white) rice.
+1 more rice suggestion. I've seen rice bring phones back from the dead.

I'm in the middle of doing this process for my wife's stolen phone and on the web-site they gave me to download some documents, there was a picture of someone pulling their phone out of the wash. so i imagine this happens alot.
att store had me call 800-801-1101 to start the process. insurance is a 3rd party

Seriously though, I would just go for the insurance claim rather than trying to get it fixed by Samsung...you could be without a phone for quite a while if you go that route.

Better confirm if there is any warranty on that repair. I have never heard of any phone manufacturer offering to fix anything (even for a price) if it has water damage. There is just no way to know when the next thing will break because there is no way to tell what else got shorted - even partially.
Did you ever try the rice thing? It's been proven to work. I did it before with an iPhone.
Also insurance from att MIGHT cover water damage. I know sprint and others have a service that replaces your phone regardless of what happend to it.
Samsung will most likely see water indicators, indication water damage, and they won't mess with it

You can't see the water that got inside. Would have been better to do the rice method before switching it back on but you should do it now nonetheless. Just be warned, you may have cooked the WiFi chip already.
Are the moisture indicators clear? If so, you should send it for warranty replacement. If not, then you can resort to opening it up, wiping the traces, etc.

uggg...may be too late. If you get a significant amount of liquid on or in your phone the worst thing you can do is turn it on.
You should have:
1. immediately removed battery and placed on a paper towel.
2. immediately place phone in a bag of rice for a minimum 24 hours if not 48 before ever powering back on.
Still its worth a try....remove battery and leave in rice for 24 hours....try again....maybe it didn't fry anything when you powered it on...but you definitely need to finish getting the moisture out of the inside via the rice absorption.
I had my old tilt in a pocket submerged in a swimming pool for a good 15 minutes before realizing my blunder. When i realizing it i didn't try to turn it back on. Left it in rice for 48 hours and everything work fine (luckily the phone was powered of when i got in the pool so that probably helped avoid anything frying).
Haha, I once accidently dropped my old Samsung Epix in a bucket of water and it still booted up and worked but most of the features are dead but screen and all still works. It looked like it was wrecked. I got it replaced under my insurance which is a good thing.

How do I check for the moisture indicator ? Any easy steps ?
It is the white (or not so white anymore) square in the battery compartment.

i know i thought it as funny haven't seen that episode in a long time...almost as good as towlie
i am just always surprised to see the posts where someone gets there phone wet (washed in laundry, dropped in toilet, spilled significant amount of liquid on it) and the first thing they did was tried to turn it back on almost immediately.
btw if your looking at the moisture indicators for warranty purposes its quite possible you have to completely open the shell. Usually they have one visible without taking the phone apart but its not uncommon to have a secondary marker inside the phone where it would be harder for someone to tamper with. Can anyone confirm where all the cappys markers are?
Been a while since I had mine apart but I don't recall seeing one inside.

wasn't sure....my Tilt2 had one in the battery compartment and one on the motherboard that could only be seen by opening the casing
Hi guys. Today I made the mistake of dropping my AT&T LG G2 D800 into the toilet.
I promptly removed the phone from the toilet, it was submerged for about 2-3 seconds. The phone stayed on for a few seconds but then froze and powered off. I disassembled it as quickly as possible (accidentally cracking the back cover in the process), and put the disassembled pieces in a large container of rice.
I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions, and was also wondering how the battery can be completely removed.
I've also taken a photo of what looks like some sort of corrosion/damage on the logic board - if it helps. Otherwise, I don't see anything that looks damaged electronically anywhere else on the phone.
Any ideas or assistance would be appreciated, thank you!
First off, I'm sorry to hear about your loss I once gave my sister her first smartphone and she dropped it in the toilet as well good thing it wasn't a G2. The battery is hard to remove due to its design. They utilized all the space they could, so you have to remove some parts from the phone to be able to pull out the battery. Keep it in rice for a few days, reassemble and try your luck. Put the rest of the device in rice too, to ensure that all water has been drained.

Dropped in a basin of water
It's my usual practice to bring with me my g2 in the bathroom. I dropped it, I dont know how, in a basin of water, a little fortunate than the toilet bowl. I was able to touch the screen coz I want to turn it off. But it just suddenly did not work. So, I gave up and left it in sunlight in the living room. The next day I tried to turn it on. Led turned on then dead again. I gave up again and just left it somewhere. After two days, I, out of habit, took it where I left it and turned it on. Viola! It turned on! What I did, I turned it off and charged it full. Now, to make sure, I put it inside our rice dispenser. I'll try to turn it on again tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Your best bet friend, is or was to turn off immediately and tear it down pull battery and hit with a dry chem spray heavily. Well not too heavy but then after that hair dry. Rice works in time but not many people will tell you rice can leave a starch film inside of your internals leaving you in a bad way if ever it was heated to liquify the starch. It will coat the internals and youll never get it working again. Though rare. It happens. Try to get a can of water erase. Or canned evaporater. I use it on repairs and have had many positive outcomes. When pulling battery on the devices especially lg be careful of the older nexus 4 and older devices as their internal battery flex terminals with pull right out.

The thing is, d802's battery is not removable and I dont have the tools to remove the back cover. No service center here too. Luckily, my mighty G2 is working perfectly now.

A while ago i received my N5 and i really enjoyed it! 2 days, i drop the thing in the toilet. :crying:
Okay so my insurance wont cover it and the phone has dryed in Rice and i followed all the advices that were online.
Tho i couldnt remove the batteri and i know this is a crucial point since the current+water will destroy the circuits.
Now my phone either wont start, or sometimes it will try to boot showing the google logo and then crashing (it cant enter the OS).
Is it worth trying to repair the thing? I dont think it will be a problem for me to change a circuit board og replace another part, but since i dont have any experience with phones i dont know what part i should start with.
The phone costs 580 dollars here in Denmark where i live.
Is it worth it ?

You can open it up, get some rubbing alcohol and submerge the board into the rubbing alcohol. Use a soft tooth brush and scrub the board. Usually the board gets corrosion/dirt from the water. Once thoroughly clean put a blow dryer to it (use medium to no heat. DO NOT PUT THE BATTERY IN THE ALCOHOL. ONLY THE BOARD!
I've tried this before and it worked like a charm when my Galaxy Nexus had water damage.

As soon as you dropped it in water you should have turned it off and left it off for days and possibly even took a hairdryer to it or let it sit in front of the heat vent.
Number one mistake is trying to turn it on. If anybody else drops the nexus in water. Because it has no removable battery cover. Rice won't do the trick. It would take way too long and the water would have already rusted the metal components and trashed all the pop connectors. If you drop the phone is water. Quickly take the entire phone apart. Than put all the pieces in rice. That will allow the rice to actually absorb the left over water. YouTube "nexus 5 tear down". Its always a good thing to know how to do this.

I just finished assembling the Nexus again and im a very happy man!
After disasembling the phone i found that the top board was very teared by the water and it was clear how some of the sockets had poor or no connection.
I used pure alchol (Dunno what its called in english) and a small toothbrush to clean the board. I dryed the board with a hair dryer on cold setting to avoid over heating the CPU parts. Now the phone works! and it doesnt look like it has any pearment faults or flaws. Even the display is normal and all my previous settings and the OS was intact. Thanks for the help everybody! and yes the best thing to do is remove the powersource and dry the boards individually if exposed to water

Hey guys. I followed the instructions and have gotten my phone to power. Problem is when it goes from the power up screen that say "Google" to the colored balls, the balls freeze and it goes back to "Google" and freezing there. Any ideas on what I can do to get it to boot?
I just need it to boot long enough to retrieve my pictures and this hot chick's number I got right before the phone was dropped in the pool. Thanks.
edit: When I hold Volume Down/Power, I can get it to the bootloader. Anything I can do from here to salvage my stuff? I'm not familiar with bootloader options. Plugged into my computer, I can hear my PC make the noise as though it's connected which typically then leads to the phone's drive being accessible on the computer however it then immediately makes the noise of the phone being disconnected.
I believe I am having the same problem as you. I briefly dropped it into a creek for no more than a few seconds. That was enough to make the display unresponsive to touch. I was able to power down and quickly did so.
Unfortunately I wasn't near any rice immediately (motorcycle) so I put the phone in my mesh jacket in 100F weather and hoped for the best. I left it off at this point. When I got home I turned it back on (stupid I know) and the N5 didn't boot, only stopped at "Google" boot. I powered down the phone and rebooted, this time it worked. A quick checkup showed the external speaker didn't work for Play music, but did work for T-mobile visual voicemail. Also, the earpiece didn't work when I attempted to make calls.
At this point I realize I probably screwed up the phone big time. Once I realized not all components were working I put the phone in a ziplock bag with brown rice new from the store. I guess I'll let it sit for 48 hours and then attempt again. If it doesn't work, I'll attempt taking the phone apart and cleaning each part. And I'm really only going to attempt that because this phone isn't even paid off!!
These phones need to be made tougher! I am losing hope that there's any chance of my phone surviving at this point.

I dropped my nexus 5 in the pool while I was on vacation. When i came home i clean all the parts with rubbing alcohol, my phone worked! A day later i tried again but my phone froze on the start-up screen (with the magical floaty balls) and i haven't been able to turn on my phone since i got it to work. I need some help, lately my nexus 5 was been water damaged. I immediately follow OuncE718 suggestion but I still experiencing problem. When I press on the phone I can feel the vibration but Google-boot logo will not display and it will only display a white-dim light in the bottom part of the screen. I tried to connect it in a Windows computer it will be recognised as a Nexus 5 phone. Does it mean I had to replace my LCD.?

Who knows what damage did the water do? If the corrosion sets in, your device will be hosed for sure.
It's really a fools errand to fix water damaged phones as no one can be sure the extent of the damage.
If you take it to a service centre, they'll most probably replace the lcd + mobo which will cost a bomb.

If you buy a new LCD, how will you know the Motherboard still works? Then what if you have to buy new motherboard?
Cut your losses. Replace the whole phone. Then get insurance

Spending money on a water damaged device is usually money wasted. Cause there's usually more things wrecked you find out along the way.
Save the money to go towards a new device.
I had the same problem, I used all the methods that I've read with no solution, my last hope is that the battery got damaged, is there a chance that maybe the battery is the problem? I can get a replacement for 20 dollars, but what do you think? thanks

I had the same problem, I used all the methods that I've read with no solution, my last hope is that the battery got damaged, is there a chance that maybe the battery is the problem? I can get a replacement for 20 dollars, but what do you think? thanks

A couple days ago I dropped my phone in a lake. It was about 10 feet. It filled with water. I removed the sim card and got rid of water.
I left the phone in a bag of rice for a day and tried to turn it on. It keeps rebooting on the screen where it says SGS7 Powered by Android. I tried to get into recovery mode. When I do that it keeps trying to get there. The only thing I see is blue "RECOVERY BOOTING....". I got into the Download mode and flashed the phone with Odin with 4 file firmware. Nothing changed. Still seeing the same thing.
Is it a brick?

The S7 has an IP 68 raiting, meanging that (in theory) it can resist being up 30 min submerged in up to 1.5 meters (which is a bit less than 5 feet). You've probably damaged the hardware on the phone. It might be fixable by a techincal service (although the offcial one wil tell you the warranty has been voided).
Removing the SIM when it was wet might have been a mistake, as you just disabled the IP68 water resistance rating by creating a way for the water to get in
Possible 10ft was too much, but have seen tests that way surpassed the suggested limits and it was fine

Well, the thing is that I didn't remove the SIM right away. I dried the phone, it was fine. But in a minute it stopped reading the SIM. I gave it a couple minutes. Nothing. Then I restarted the phone, which brought me to the problem that I have now. It wouldn't start.
Then I realized that the water probably got into the phone. I removed the SIM and water started pouring from inside.

That sucks, IP68 rating should have prevented any water getting in, but as above, maybe 10ft was too deep and the pressure too much for the phone seal

I'm pretty sure that's what happened.
I'll take it to a repair shop and see what they can do. It's too soon for this phone to finish its serve...

They'll probably sell you a new motherboard / battery at best, and likely a new phone at worst
That's the problem with not being able to remove batteries in phones these days, if you get them wet you have no way of preventing a short circuit / damage
Generally if you can remove the battery fast, you minimise any damage
Also a big factor in phones not working again after getting wet is the impurities in the water that remain on the electronics even when dry, you need to use something like Isopropyl Alcohol to clean it off
And if the lake was salt water you have even more damage, back in the WWI days soldiers used Sea Water to defuse bombs as it would quickly cease up all the working parts inside the fuse/detonator section iirc

Wow, that's a good peace of the history right there I really liked it! Didn't know about those soldiers' methods.
Speaking of, no, the lake was a pure mountain water.
And I just want a repairman to take a look what he can do. I already bought exact same phone since I couldn't wait, really need this phone for work and other business. However, I'd like to fix it rather than having it as a peace of memory. So hopefully they'll be able to fix it under a $100 cost.
