hi
i have managed to flash the latest btu firmware root and keep knox 0x0.
i used mobile odin pro and used the latest flashable zip in this thread thanks to mdiaz33685
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760452
you are looking for a zip file called "N9005XXUFNF4_hlte_Stock_Odex_Not_Rooted_NoKnox.zip" this zip is normally a cwm flashable zip
next flash the zip using mobile odin pro and use the ever root option.
you should have the latest firmware and knox at 0x0
hope this helps and not a fluke on my behalf
edit: i was coming from nd3 firmware and used towelroot to root
edit 2: instructions step by step from post further on
On ND3 firmware root with towelroot
Install Mobile Odin Pro
Download zip from http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358557264
On SuperSu i had Survival Mode on
In MOP select the zip file you have downloaded in the OTA section
Make sure EverRoot and all options are ticked including wipe Dalvik cache
Flash the zip then when booted up go to SuperSu update binaries and you should be rooted and knox at 0x0.
Modem can be flashed separately using the full tar file from samfirmware.com and flashing in MOP selecting only the modem fields.
can any one else confirm this? did you root with towelroot?

originally yes, but used everroot in mobile odin pro to root the zip after flashing.

i was set on tripping knox by using everroot on the tar package and flashing the BL on pc odin and that would of tripped knox from what i read in another thread somewhere, but i selected the wrong file in MOP so came across this by accident.
if anyone does try this please reply if it works

Hey. I tried using the search feature but perhaps my keywords are wrong or just to broad. I'm running stock, rotted using zedomax's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152). I want to get the latest OTA, but when using the software update, of course I get the error for the tablet being modified. There seems to be a process in order to get the OTA, but I can't seem to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

As you know when you are rooted you can not get OTA updates, you need to install the update manually.
You will have to goto http://samfirmware.com/ register and then look for the firmware that is for your device and region in the tab "Check Your Firmware".
After downloading the firmware follow the directions by Zedomax on "How to Unroot/Unbrick Galaxy Note 10.1! [Factory Firmware]"
it is the same process and you will lose root.
You could also install via Mobile Odin and choose to inject root, su, and mobile odin on installation. I am also stock rooted and use this method to stay up to date and maintian root.

There is no need to unroot. This method roots the firmware as it is installed.
Download the firmware from sammobile to your SD
Open mobile Odin
Use mobile Odin to locate firmware on SD
Check options you want- root, inject su, inject mobile Odin, etc
Push flash firmware.

So as it turns out, the Canadian variant SMN900W8 has receieved a kitkat version/mod that allows us to keep knox at 0x0 and give us a custom recovery, as well as root, through means that would normally trip Knox. I just wanted to compile a list of things that are working and doesn't trip Knox.
So far we know the following won't:
Edit 06/03/14
-Root (Through CF-ROOT)
- Custom Recovery
- Xnote 8.0
-XNote Kernel works without tripping Knox (selected in the AROMA installer) however I'm not sure if the changes are too mild to even trip knox.
- Kernels over all work; sounds and theme mods work as well. All that's left are AOSP roms.
Unconfirmed
- AOSP Roms
I'll update OP as users start reporting in.

Does anyone have video proof of a 4.3 to 4.4 upgrade and then CF-Rooting while retaining 0x0? I really don't want to mess this up.
I must admit: I am happy with KitKat so far. Everything works fine. The only glitch was timezone related. I manually selected it and its been fine since. Knox was tripped earlier by myself using root de La Vega.

Using files listed in at least 2 other threads I first used kingo to root though this is not necessary but I wanted a data backup since the kitkat flash will wipe out the data. Then after root did my backup with titanium.
Then used Odin 3.09 to flash the files rebooted. Then used Odin to root with cf auto root. Rebooted then flashed twrp via ODIN.

Root Method for this new release (Tested and worked flaweslly on Russia SER I9500XXUFNB3 released today 20/02/2014)
After you fresh install the rom you need to deknox your phone otherwise it wont work. So here we go.
1) Go and Download the " philz_touch_6.12.8-i9500.tar.md5 " located on this website
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9500
Install latest "philz_touch_6.12.8-i9500" via ODIN 1.85 Odin 1.85 For Rooting
Now go to the Philz recovery you just installed with odin..
-Flash the Deknox Removal Script <-- Click Here to direct download (VIA RECOVERY)
(Original DeKnox Thread) <-- Click Here to check out the hole theme (optional not needed)
After you flash the Knox removal script you are ready to go rooting your device.
Now go to
-Philz Options / Choose Re-root system / Choose Yes Apply (SuperSu)
-Wait until it finish, Reboot and install SuperSu from playstore
-Once installed, Open SuperSu app / It will ask you to update binaries click on Update as normal (NOT TWRP)
-Once binaries are installed reboot your device
-Root done.

it should not have any boot problems at all. Since we are only giving root permisions,
Install the new 4.4.2 Kit Kat rom from Russia using odin 3.09v.. Then Flash via odin 1.85 (on this thread) the latest philz. go to Philz Settings , choose "Re-root system (supersu) , click "Yes - Apply SuperSu" wait some seconds, Reboot your phone, install SuperSu from playstore and you are done..

Checkout the First post . There was something missing to do just after flashing the rom and before go rooting.
For some reason if you don't remove Knox you wont be able to root. The quicky fix is on the main post. :good:
The Steps is
1) in Odin Flash Philz
2)In Philz Recovery Re Root
3) Download SuperSU
4)Remove Knox and update BInary
5)Flash this new zip DE-SAMSUNGNIZER_KNOX_REMOVAL_SCRIPT_V1.0
I am in the correct thing????

1 ) install rom.
2) oding flash philz
3) flash knox removal
4) root the phone with the steps on the main post.! :victory:
3) flash knox removal (this step is in Philz Recovery? flash this Zip) and next all steps for Root
This process is important? I was deleting SuperSU and in says that if I delete SuperSU I will delete this file too...
If you're unrooting, you don't need to keep it.

I already told you.
Ok, I've read your thread about how to upgrade to Lollipop the Nexus.
The fact is that my main pc have no working USB ports, so if I want to unlock the bootloader and stuff like this I have to use my second pc, and it is very slow (the last time to just fastboot a factory image it tooks me one hour of suffering).
I think that the method 2b is the one that is closest to my situation:
1. Unlock bootloader if necessary (This wipes data)
2. Accept OTA update
3. Fastboot flash a custom recovery image (of your choice)
4. Fastboot flash a custom boot.img (@Chainfire for basic root, @sykopompos for full permissive mode)
5. Flash from recovery, SuperSU

I don't want root, so:
2. Accept OTA update

If I have understood, the only thing that I have to do is use flashify to flash the OTA checker zip. file and than proceed with the OTA, right?
If there is another way to do this without use the PC, it will be great, but I don't know.
Is what I said right or I forgot something?
Thank you with your help anyway!

I already have the OTA, but I think that there could be some issues, this is why I want to check if everything it's good, I don't want to brick/bootloop the device

You wont brick it. If you're not stock, it wont install.
Thank you, it works
Sprint Galaxy S5 OTA update OD3 with "Factory Reset Protection" locks bootloader?
Sprint is pushing out an OTA update with build G900PVPU2BOD3 to the Galaxy S5 and the update changelog reads "Factory Reset Protection", does it locks bootloader?

The reports of the locked bootloader on T-Mo S6 Edge were mistaken and premature. So the answer is no.
New update has locked me out of root access
I stupidly accepted the update.. now i can't find root access. I have tried previous firmware thru Odin and nothing works. HELP...

Odin back to OA6

Glad I decided not to take the OTA update, even though I'm sure there will be a fix for the loss of root.
A colleague of mine who updated her GS5 yesterday said her caller ID only shows the phone number and no longer shows the contact's name. Also, I can confirm this isn't the 5.1 update . . .

I was able to root OD3 using the most recent CF autoroot for the S5. It will flash OA6 recovery though. Hopefully it will be updated to include the OD3 recovery, or I'll just wait until the OD3 tar is up on sammobile.com to grab the OD3 recovery from there.

I've accepted the update and have tried to Odin back to OA6. Odin fails. I'm guessing we can't go back.

I did the same thing. Apparently there's no going back from OD3. If you're worried about root, just use the latest CF Auto Root for this phone. It works on OD3. Then just wait for the full ROM to be posted on Sammobile if you want to do flash that later. I'm rooted on OD3 and haven't had any issues at all.

Yeah, it's really no problem. There's no going back, but I just re-rooted with CF Auto Root and restored an OA6 backup and all is well.

So if the recovery is OA6, what happens if you then use that recovery? are you back in OA6 and still rooted? I guess it would be best to wait for the OD3 recovery to show up. In the mean time, still no issues?

When the notification is on your status bar just long press and open App Info and untick the Show Notifications. No more annoying popup saying to update

That's weird I've never been able to untick a notification. Glad you came abroad to MOAR. Please though we ask you to post your questions in the MOAR Q&A FAQ thread and not the development thread. We as a community are trying to keep the clutter in that thread to a minimal. Heck we even have an Off Topic thread for anything, just so we don't clutter the development thread.

I was able to flash the stock OA6 Kernel then Philz recovery through odin, and install rom from there. MOAR works without any issues. CM12.1 runs as good as it ever will, also.

I'm on OD3 bootloader and I'm able to run MOAR, and my OA6 back ups.
The update also adds Lollipop's Screen pinning feature.
