Hello,
I am on ParanoidAndroid 4.4 and the battery drain is killing me. I have to charge my phone at least twice a day if I'm outside just because I'm scared of having my phone die on me. I was on stock 4.4.3 up until recently but the sudden wakelocks at random times would kill me so I switched to PA to at least have a few extras like Hover and its even worse now. I'm using ElementalX kernel now because of how amazing the battery life is supposed to be but I am almost crying :'(
I have noticed that if I turn WiFi off, the phone will go to sleep without any problems but turn it on and it'll stay up all night and all day draining the battery 2% every 5 minutes of use. It appears GoogleSearch is the culprit but I'd like some more help on this.
I have uploaded some screenshots if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.

Disable Google Now and Greenify it. If it's a system app, I recommend using a minimal gapps package. Like the one from my signature.
If that's still not good enough, Greenify WhatsApp and Viber. We need to see if they are the cause. I suspect something else is the issue, but let's rule out your top 3.
Oh I almost forgot. Thank you for posting a BBS log without being asked.

Greenify won't allow me to hibernate it since its a System app and asks me to buy the donate package. Also, I'm on ART so Xposed doesn't work for me. Is there a workaround?

Then change it to a user app with Titanium Backup, etc lol. If you installed it from the Play Store it would be a user app, it's installed as a system app if it's flashed in a gapps package. Shouldn't have any problems moving it. You could also Greenify it for free if you did that..

You said you are on PA. You need to wipe system, reflash PA, then flash the Banks minimal gapps in my signature. Then download Google search from play store. Google Now is now user app and can Greenify it. After you do that, send another BBS log.
You will also need Nova launcher or similar. Banks gapps doesn't come with a launcher.
OK guys....look at this I found.
Last night I enabled the new "OK google from any screen" option, in Google settings, OK Google hotword detection.
Then after only after I woke up (didn't charge...I charged before bed) look what I saw....held awake time on Google search, which I've never gotten before.
So a couple hours ago I turned from any screen option off.....no more held awake time on search.
So guys with Google search out of control.....that might be the issue.
Too bad too....I liked that new feature, but Google gone messed it up.....again.

Sadly, this is to be expected at this point.
I think like double tap to wake.... If it isn't on the low voltage core, like moto x always listening is, its never gonna be battery friendly. But people wanted....they got it...kinda. Better than having to be on a certain screen anyway. Just now audio in is listening to every sound it hears.

After looking at battery stats I see my phone never actually sleeps. According to the battery stats the phone is awake the whole time. Multiple apps have confirmed that my phone doesn't sleep. Is it because I have the knock knock screen on option checked? I can't find any apps keeping it awake.

Reboot the phone after charging?
I ran into this issue as well and it looks like it's due to the new Google Play Services not playing nicely with CM 11S.
This should work though.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53739230&postcount=5031
If not, I used 'Disable Service' app from the Play Store and re-enabled "SystemUpdateServer" under Google Play Services and it seemed to work as well.

used the method you provided in the link and it worked perfectly. first time my phone has slept since I've owned it. Thank you so much.
Really, it comes down to installing Xposed framework and Greenify.
Sometimes we need to be told straight up what works, and its installing XPosed Framework, and installing Greenify to identify what's waking up and consuming battery - and then telling Greenify to put it to sleep.
I'm doing this write up because it's something I know a lot of us are facing with our Relay's as they age and we try to stay current with new roms.
Like quite a few of us I've sacrificed battery life for an updated rom that looks decent and runs fast. Between builds and Kernels I was lucky to get through the day let alone to 24 hours without my phone needing a charge - even if I didn't play any games.
I tried flashing clean and not using titanium backup - didnt have any effect once I had the apps I desired installed.
I checked OS Monitor, wakelock detector, battery usage things, juice defender... nothing really extended or identified what he true cause, things said Android System UI or Display or Graphics was eating it all up. I started wondering if it was the latest roms with the transparent pull down notifications or the annoying pop ups that show you text messages and emails in the top foreground of the screen ..
Turns out for me, it was my "Transparent Weather Widget" I wanted something that showed a 5 day forecast and this sucker was DRAINING my battery.
I'm now running SlimKat initial build (Mar 15 2014) with Xposed framework, Juice Defender and Greenify. Everything is working perfect on my phone now. I keep checking in greenify and sleeping apps that don't need to be using any resources until I execute them. One item about SlimKat is you need to 2 finger pinch together the recent tasks to close all apps at once, other than that it has every feature I wanted, less annoying pop ups than the most recent KitKat's and my battery today - 50% after 14 hours. Usually at the most by a day like today I would have is 15% but more likely 6%.
This may be long winded, but its the steps we've all been mystified on why System UI or Display is the leading cause of battery use.. I think it has to do with the transparency of my widgets .. Food for thought if it helps others.

30 second timeout on the screen, i check it to read emails and texts, the odd phone call, sometimes i will run a wifi diagnostic for the networks i support using fing and wifi analyzer.. i keep my phone off and locked otherwise. in the car bluetooth is enabled. i was going wifi diagnostic yesterday when i got such great battery life.
today i have android weather and clock widget (cant recall the exact name) running w 3hour update .. after 8 hours i have 58% remaining, im in an area with horrible cell coverage , stats say 38mins screen on time.
there is nothing different of my usage over the passed cpl weeks, just enabling greenify and sleeping a voip app, facebook, google maps and the weather widget.

I'm using dashclock with 15min weather update, greader app with over 120feeds (aggregated in feedly) with 15 min update interval too and lots of other apps including the evil facebook+messenger. I switched recently from latest LiquidSmooth to Omnitoad and the result is I got the battery dropped by 9% overnight (10 hours) in idle mode.
Nota bene: without any tweaking.
I installed the Xposed framework and successfully used it to get rid of the "Just Once" app picker annoyance.
Edit: the play store has a Greenify which requires Xposed framework. Tutorial on Greenify use is on Youtube. Up and running now, but noticed that I am not getting a GPS fix now ever since the altrnt app picker MOD. It's always something!

I'd be curious to know too. I recently tried to install xposed again (last time I used it was probably a couple of years ago) on my Relay running the last official CM11 nightly, and it didn't work either. First the installer complained that xposed isn't compatible with my version of the Android SDK, but there is a fix for that (I forget where, but it is somewhere on XDA). But even when I applied the fix, it still failed, I started getting bootloops. So yeah, I'd love to know how to install xposed on the Relay too...
I have to say, I have been using my Relay more lately, as my main phone has been having some issues, and the main thing that keeps me from using it more is battery life. I'm not crazy about the screen, but I can live with it, and I have just about everything else running fairly smoothly - and the keyboard is just a joy to use. This thing is a real workhorse. But when the battery plummets down to ~70% or 60% within a couple of hours of use, that's just not cool...

So - install .apk, then flash the .zip - correct? And xposed is working well now for you?
[EDIT] So the .apk you posted worked just fine for me, no need to flash the .zip! Odd, but grateful this worked. Thanks!
Just wanted to confirm: Greenify (root) + Greenify xposed module + Amplify xposed module make a huge difference. Battery lasts much longer, and I have this sneaking suspicion the phone is generally smoother and less laggy. Might well be placebo, I know, but with useless background processes being sht down it might well have an effect on performance...

Great! I don't know why, but i had to flash the second one too.
Could you tell me which options have you check in Greenify and Amplify with xposed to get better battery life?
Thanks!
Greenify: Root mode + Xposed, of course. I've got automatic hibernation set, and for xposed features, I set all of them except Deep Hibernation
Amplify: even just selecting the default wakelock blocks in the free version helps a lot, but I use the paid version and I limited just about every wakelock that the app said was safe to limit (but only ones that were also described as safe in their blurb - some in the "safe" list are described as "we don't have any information for this wakelock yet") except for a few that were really light wakelocks.
Hey all!
Has anyone else been experiencing a much higher battery drain with 4.4.3? It's not only me but a bunch of friends and family with the M8 have been experiencing drains when by the end of the day they would have 50% but now it's getting down to 10% or even lower. For me, it will sit on my desk during class and drain a minimum of 15%. Classes are about an hour and a half.
Any tips? It's getting really hard to keep the phone plugged in.
Install Better Battery Stats app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809) . Let it run for a day and see what's killing your battery. I have a feeling its services within Google Play services. I used "Disable Services" app and "Autorun Manager" app to stops alot of play services from sucking my battery.
I wouldn't say I'm getting significant battery drain going from 1.8 viper Rom 4.4.2 to 2.5 viper 4.4.3 w/ firmware but it is noticeable. Also DS battery saver is good, especially if your in low 4g areas all the time

You seen that google play is killing your battery using the wake lock app? Just wondering or what were you using to see this?
suggestion
After any OTA or official update, its a most perform a factory reset* from Stock recovery.
Follow these steps
So Google Play Serveries suck most of our battery up. I use two apps to stop certain Google play receives from running. From installing the app "Better Battery Stats" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809) you are able to see what wakelocks are draining your phone (Both kernel and partial wakelocks). First app to install is "Disable services." In this app go to Google Play services and disable (some of these are default disabled):
- AnalyticsServices
- GcmServices
- SyncService
- PlayLogBrokerservice
- PackageBroadcastService
- InitialzeInternetService
- UserPresence
- GeofenceProviderService
Now install the app "Autorun Manager." Click on "Advance Mode." Go into settings and make sure "Show system entries" is unchecked. In the advance mode scroll down to "Google Play Services" and disable (some of these are default disabled):
- .gms.update.SystemUpdateService$Reciever
- ..gms.checkin.EventLogService$Reciever
- .gms.CheckinService$TriggerReciever
- .gms.update.SystemUpdateService$Activereciever
- .gms.mdm.recieiver.ActivateDeviceAdminUponUnlockreciever
- .gms.checkin.CheckinService$Reciever
- .gms.icing.service.PowerConnectedReciever
- .gms.mdm.recievers.ConnectivityReciever
- .gms.update.SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReciever
- .gms.feedback.feedbackConnectivityReciever
-.gms.wallet.reciever.ConnectivityChangeBroadcastReciever
- .gms.checkin.CheckinService$ActiveReciever
- .gms.wallet,reciever.PackageAddedBroadcastReciever
- .gms.googlehelp.service.ConnectivityBroadcastReciever
- .gms.mdm.recievers.LockscreenUnlockedReciever
- .gms.mdm.recievers.AccountsChangedReciever
- .gms.checkin.checkinService$SecretCodeReciever
-. gms.app.receiver.OneTimeInitializerReciever
From doing this...I have 1% drain from all of Google Play Services. When Google Play services updates from time to time, you might have to go back and disable these receivers. On this phone, I am able to get 6 hours of screen time. This is on about 30% 4G and 70% Wifi on a daily basis. Took me some trial and error to disable these services. My setup makes nothing FC at all! Hope this helps. You will yield amazing battery life!

I installed it and it just showed 2 apps on the screen I assumed those were supposed to be the ones draining my battery one was google play other was my data manager. Since it only showed those two shouldnt those be the ones it chose were draining my power ?
After updating to latest version of Google Play Services I have started to notice some sort of partial wakelocks. After 6hrs use I've got 44mins wakelock by google play services. Has anyone else noticed such behaviour? I have tried Purity Rom, Cm and Carbon just incase if there's difference, but I've encountered the same wakelock always. Here's what wakelock detector shows

wakelocks are how your phone works, they are supposed to be. an occasional incident might happen, and a process will get "stuck", which could keep a wakelock active. tell me, your wakelock, is it draining battery faster than usual? a reboot will usually fix these kinds of incidences. but you say you flashed roms since, and still the same.. so my next question is which apps are you using that is using this wakelock?

Afaik I don't use any apps that trigger these wakelocks I've experienced. The only solution I've found so far is to disable services called "Configfetchservice" and "userpresenceservice". I've got these wakelocks no matter what ROM or even if I had disabled all Google stuff (sync, location, device manager and so on). Always after a day I have about an hour of Google play services wakelocks by userpresenceservice and configfetchservice. Never had this before. I'm sure it has something to do with latest google play services versions. I know wakelocks are very important part in smartphones but these kind of wakelocks are everything else but wanted.

Always after a day I have about an hour of Google play services wakelocks by userpresenceservice and configfetchservice. Never had this before. I'm sure it has something to do with latest google play services versions. I know wakelocks are very important part in smartphones but these kind of wakelocks are everything else but wanted.

Not really shocking drain but noticable it is, which is nothing exceptional. It does these wakes during deepsleep every now and then. And of course when device is not used much and there is google play services on top 3 consuming elements at settings-> battery that's not the way it should be. Now I'm going to enable those services again and look for the logcat if I could find out to which app it is related to.

if its draining some battery, but nothing in large amounts, i wouldnt really worry about it. as sometimes these wakelocks appear, then disappear a week or two later.

I guess you're right. I'll just keep those services enabled for a week or so and see wheter it goes away or gets nasty and drains my battery in couple hours.

a while back, these kinds of things drove me crazy. then one day i just decided not to think about them anymore, and have been better off since. sure, every once in a while(rare, usually location oriented) a wakelock will appear that will drain lots of battery, but ill just use the disable services app to kill that wakelock for a week or two, then ill switch it back and all will be normal.
Hi guys,
In the last few days google app is draining my battery. It is disabled for wake up and keep awake in privacy mode, I tried to calibrate the battery, nothing helps. Even when I put it on flight mode, the draining is insane!
I attached screenshots.
My phone is not rooted, and I cannot root it.
Thank you all in advance!
I uninstalled it. I do not ise the cards and voice assitant plus I am an old fashioned guy, using search function in Chrome. By the way I saw other people having this issue, but don't know if it was resolved.
Yeah same for me, mine has been draining so fast when the phone is idle too! I'm running xnph05q cm11.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Uninstall the app update which is causing battery drain. Use it for some day using factory version of the app. If problem not resolved, report back here

For chrome, you can do the same thing as suggested above
Android OS and Android System.. You can't do anything with it.. If you play with them, you'll end up making your system malfunctioning..

Hi there,
Until I will have a report regarding your previous suggestion, can you please take a look at my screenshots and tell me why the GPS is always on when I am on battery saving all the time?
Something is draining my battery, I get only 2:30 SOT, in the best case, without games videos music or even phone calls.
Thanks a lot!

As you have not rooted your bacon, only thing I can suggest you is that with the help of Privacy Settings, disable access for wake up and keep awake for the apps which are not oftenly used and also Google Play Services
Battery saver mode disables background services of the apps and lowers done the device performance
Combination of above stuffs can help you increase your battery life to some extend
Your GPS is not always ON as seen from the chart
