Hi. i have a problem playing Videos taken by my Action Cam (mov-files) with mx player on my sony tablet s. 1080p 30fps and even the 720p 60fps are both played to slow and a bit sticky sometimes (and sound is not synchron). The tablet is able to play 1080p full hd videos but usually does not support mov-files (therefor sony support did not help me with that). I tried already to play around with settings of mx player and several other players but I cannot solve the problem. I played the same video on a samsung galaxy tab 2 (which has nearly the same hw) without problems in correct speed, so the video-file seems to be ok.
Please can anybody help?! Who knows how to play 1080 or at least 720p mov-files correct on a sony tablet s?
Thanks in advance!
Did you play around with the decoder? Try software decoder and hardware decoder.

Hi,
Yes this is what i tried already! But there are many settings available....use hw decoder.... local, network or 10bit. Sw decoder...local or network....
I tried different settings but always same problem at playback....
I was going to suggest that it may be a hardware limitation, but you said that it works fine on another tablet with similar hardware, so the only thing I can suggest is that your current tablet has poorer software Optimization and so it is unable to do the same work as the more optimized tablet that you mentioned.

I dont know for sure if both have really exactly hardware, but both have dual core processor with 1/GHz, 1GB RAM, display 1280x800,
Usually sony tablet s should be able to play 1080p (e.g. mpeg4), as sony support says...
I have the same problem on the sony tablet with 720p mov videos....i think 720p should work for sure..??
Is there a way to improve software optimization?
Okay, so I did a little research into the hardware and while they seem to have similar hardware, there are some key things to notice. The tegra 2 chipset in the Sony S is slightly less powerful than the galaxy tab in terms of CPU, but in terms of GPU (the processor responsible for graphics, images, video decoding and playback), the Tab 2 is far better, using a SGX540 which easily out performs the gpu in the Sony S (ULP GeForce).
This explains the lower performance on your tablet, simply due to lower hardware. But also, the tab is using a newer version of android which means better Optimization and features, etc which all combine to provide better performance than your Sony tablet. You can improve the software by flashing a custom ROM and kernel and overclocking the device to perform faster.

Try H/W+ or H/W decoder.......
It works well for me ....
And i use mx player 1.7.22 version..... New versions are little bit laggy .....

Thanks lolcake203, for your research and explanation!!
But why/how does it work for killwish then? I tried several settings but it doesnt work.
Killwish, just to make sure...you can play mov videos 1080p with mx plaxer on a sony tablet s without problems??
I use mx player 1.7.28...can that really be the problem?
Killwish, are you using a sony s tablet or another device? There are large variations between hardware...

Sorry again.... But I think Sony suxx..... Samsung hardware is better than Sony for same configuration....
No problem killwish.
There's your answer robertwa, it is simply a hardware limitation.

Ok thanks for info.
I just thought it must be possible on sony tablet s because in other format (e.g. mpeg4,.....) it works fine in 1080p full hd.....also when i stream the mov file to my tv via google chromecast using the local cast app it works fine on the tv, altough the tv itself is not able to play it himself (put the sd card in tv directly...."unknown file"-message appears)....so i thought the tablet must do it in background.....
And as i mentioned in my initial message also with 720p (60fps) mov videos i have the same problem....you really think the hw of the sony tablet s is even too poor for this...?
Did no one ever try to play a mov video 1080p on a sony tablet s .....and could let me know if it works or not....please?!
I thought already about doing a reset on the tablet.....but if it is simply not possible to play those files i can safe that effort.
Thanks!

Dear friend, I don't have Sony tab.... So I don't know much about it.
But my friend has Sony Xperia z... And I also not happy with its performance, display color etc..... And I have Samsung GT s7582.... Which costs less than 10k... And I am able to play all formats in mx player with no issue... So I personally think Samsung devices are better (only in my opinion)..
.
But don't worry..... You can convert them to mp4 and able to play on your tab...... And 30fps is ok.....I never played 60fps video on any device yet.... You can change fps in recorder...... Try 30 fps mp4.....
And wait... May be someone solve your problem....
Good Day.... And gud luck...

Wondering if anyone has a solution here, AVI and MKV have issues playing. The MKVs are 720p HD tv shows, and the audio is great, but the video is choppy\slow-mo. Has anyone managed to find a player or a method to resolve this? I know this has been discussed in other forums, but related to different phones, so curious if there's a specific fix to this phone, or if a 720p is just too much for the Inspire 4G to handle. I wouldn't think so since last year's iPhone 3G and 3GS and 4 can handle it just fine.... I'm thinking something is wrong or I'm using the wrong app.
I don't think the stock video player can do it, so you'll have to try some third party apps like VPlayer, RockPlayer, and Act 1. Let us know if any of those three get the job done. I'm curious too. Otherwise we may need to convert videos.

VPlayer - Same
RockPlayer - Same
Act 1 - Same
None of these seem to work. I wonder if it's the way my videos are encoded? I sure hope not, because all the MKV files I download from the torrents of tv shows I miss are formatted the same way. They always played fine on iPhone
Anyone else experience this issue and find a resolution?
Thanks!

Oh really? I don't see any Class 6 or higher on Amazon. Mine is a class 4. Can the Inspire 4G even benefit from class 6? I'm able to watch them off the memory card on my class 4 when plugged into my computer just fine.
the desire hd can support all class cards including class 10, so i cant see why the inspire cant either.
Yea class 4 should be ok i would think? Have you tried different size files?
Is anybody else having trouble like this ?

I have 2 inspire 4g devices, and have tried both a Class 2 and a Class 4 card. I ordered a Class 10 from Amazon (they only had up to 16gb, not the 32GB like my class 4), so I'll report back tomorrow when it arrives.
The file I'm using is a 1.09GB MKV file.
I have yet to purchase the Inspire and this problem is one of the reasons that I am waiting. FWIW I have read many complaints from users having this problem.
I have the same issue
It happens on G1, Streak and Inspire. However, cheap Archos doesn't this issue. Isn't that ironic? I was trying to copy the Archos player but no success...

Clearly it's either the way my video is encoded, or the lack of proper decoder on the android. I am at the end of my rope trying to resolve. I didn't like my iPhone because it's incompatibilities, and everyone with Android said "get an Android cause it'll decode anything" ... lol... wonder if we'll ever have a solution to decode a mkv properly.
You do realize that your phone is only capable of show video resolution up to 400p? MKV is mostly used for HD rips because it ends up having the best quality after compression, but your phone is not HD in the sense that it is over a standard definition television vertical wise (watching it in wide screen format).
Anything bigger will have to be scaled down by the player, sucking up battery life and you wont notice a quality difference. Aside from that, forcing your device to play something higher res will suck the battery life as well because it will be more intensive on the cpu. Why dont you just use xvid rips in avi format? Everything that's ripped in mkv is always ripped in xvid as well.

Yeah, the processing power is certainly there so I guess it's just an issue of improper codec execution :-(
Not sure on a player to watch them on android. I would just go through the top ones on the market place and do trial and error
I dont have a computer with osx on it currently, but VLC (the PC/OSX version) does convert file formats as well and it's free.

Yeah none worked. I think it's just the issue of the MKV file. They don't work on iPhone with any of the players either, I think it just takes more power and video processing to handle them.
Try xyflash, i used this on iphone. Android market has it also so i tried it. It plays 720p mkv bleach videos and sub titles work using mkv sub extractor. Not the best but it does the job i think
Did you guys try lower resolution files but coded in mkv?

I doubt that the xoom will be able to play .mkv files right out of the box. But Im sure that there are other players in the market that will be able to. I used to have an iPad (but sold it to get the xoom) and that was one of my main problems, not being able to play .mkv, but the VLC app worked perfectly for me, the only problem was that the iPad wasn't powerful enough to run a 720p or an 1080p .mkv file. Galaxy S has native Divx support and can play AVI and MKV through the built in video player. No need for any third party players. I doubt the Xoom will have divx certification, but it certainly should be able to decode 720P MKV files using a software solution through Rockplayer.

none of these have dual core either so the xoom will be able to handle high def mkvs, we probably just have to wait for a player that take advantage of dual core to smooth out playback.

But it will still be limited by the FAT32 file system. You can't play full length 1080p simply because the files are too big.

it is a HUGE inconvenience and i was wondering if it will be ever possible to play and maybe even record hd movies on the NS? if not, i am really considering to go back to the captivate

You wont be able to record at 720p it lacks the hardware
As for movies ever since 2.3.3 nexus s has been able to play 720p (x264) movies but still lack proper audio codecs so no sound hopefully more audio codecs get introduced in 2.4 update when ever that comes out but dont hold your breath
If you check in dev section there is a ROM in that includes new hardware codecs but the video player that is required is not 100%

exactly you haven't played high quality HD movies on your phone experience what we are talking about
also im pretty sure he is talking about hardware support Mobo or any other player does software only for the codecs that are not supported by the OS
And ask anyone who had or has a galaxy S image quality is outstanding
Also doesn't matter if the phone is not 720p you dont having to spend time properly converting
This is a big let down for me, its true a few media players can play via software decoding but the nexus s out the box has limited media support.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
You can try the hardware multi-codec thread in the dev section. You need to flash the customized ROM though, and install ho player from Market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052318
I just recommend that you go back to your Captivate. I've had the Vibrant and sometimes I miss that my Nexus S doesn't have the hardware support to play other media files without converting, but I don't use it for media much so it wasn't a priority in the phone for me. Reading from your first post, it sounds like you use the phone a lot for watching media and somewhat use HD video recording. So that's why I recommend that you stay with the Captivate and perhaps wait for Galaxy S II if you're looking for an upgrade. Nothing can really beat the media capabilities that the Galaxy S offers.
What codec are you trying to play? I have HD videos on my Mac downloaded directly from YouTube. With no transcoding, they work fine on my Nexus S in the Gallery app using stock firmware.
H.264 has many different encoding profiles, and mobile devices (even the iPhone and iPad, along with scores of Android and Nokia devices) have limits on both the profile and the bit-rate that they can handle.
With regards to recording, the Nexus S does not do HD recording, and that's fine with me. If I want to record some video (which I do like 4-5 times a year), I'll whip out my Flip. You know why? Because recording video drains a lot of battery, and I need my Nexus S to last all day.
anyone know a decent video player for TF? wiht Tegra2 it even can play decent 720p MKV...
Haven't tried it for MKV containers but Buzz Player works perfectly with x264 encoded mp4 encodes.
Would love to find a player that dims the on screen Honeycomb buttons like the stock player though.

Lite version is but not the full version. The watermark on the top left can be pretty annoying.
It's been mentioned in other forums- DICE Player works very well! The dev mentions in the app description that Tegra 2 might have some glitches, but so far it's been able to play most mkvs i throw at it- even those that mobo and mx (and others) play with no sound!

sadly tegra 2 is unable to fully decode HD using its hardware. dice so far has the smoothest frame rate in all the players out there, but it still lag at certain scenes where there is a lot of movement or fighting. hoping they be able to solve the problem.
anyway was wondering by increasing the processing speed of the tegra 2, will it be able to process mkv better?

It has nothing to do with Tegra 2. Samsung's Galaxy S series are using Hummingbird and can fully decode 720p. It's all software and codecs.
You could always just convert your move to mp4, I've done it to loads of HD movies (LOTR and such) and they run great, even streaming through to the TV via HDMI.

well mkv works the best in dice player atm. hopefully they can optimize it for tegra.
DICE Player is the answer to your problem concerning MKVs. Give it a try, the developer is VERY active on the XDA forums especially in the Transformer forum.
Converting something to another format is unacceptable in the hardware that we're getting. And honestly, it's a waste of time to convert. Just get DICE Player and you won't ever have to convert again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16224858#
Go there. The developer is actively talking in that thread. Another new version was released today to fix some problems with subtitles and multiple audio streams in a single MKV. Honestly, it's the best player and well worth the $4US to the dev.
MX player is the best the guy above ^ is 100% right.

What happened to ur device .? My device is perfectly handling 720p and 1080p . Only problem with the stock video player is it can't handle dts encoded audio (samsung removed it because of the copyright issues)) but mx player with custom codec can play dts files

Why are people complaining about not being able to play files? Please don't reply to this thread if that's the case. You can download players and codecs seperately. I assume the people who answered the wirelessly streaming question used a player or codec combination, anyone care to specify what hardware/software codec they used?
I use vplayer for large buffers and mxplayer for smaller buffers.
Dice sucks and is overrated.

Ummm As i stated before, mine does playback 720p and 1080p flawlessly. I have over 4TB of movies and TV shows from multiple sources and formats, (mp4, MKV container .h264 you name it) not a one is ever out of sync with audio, video and subs even if i skip ahead or back. So i'm sorry if yours can't. All I'm using is MXplayer with the MX player codec.(arm v7)
Also you do know that MKV is a container not a video format per se correct?

Eric are you streaming these? Wirelessly? What is your wifi connection like, what router are you using? Are you overclocking your tab by any chance?
I've been ambiguous about buying this thing for like a week now. Sigh. Inconsistent answers and just some straight up stupid answers about this.
Since 1080 is a complete waste on any hand held device save yourself the drain on battery and the bandwidth of downloading 1080. The eye cant tell the difference between 1080 and 720 on small devices held less then a foot or two from your face.

I'm using GT-P5113 stock. Not rooted on ota 4.2.2. My router was a dlink dir-655 but 3 weeks ago I replaced my it with a linksys ea4500 (n900). I'm streaming on 2.4ghz as the tab 2 can't see the 5ghz band. My tab steamed 100% fine on both routers.

Like I said I'm sorry your tab has issues with playback. But my tab running stock 4.2.2 ota has no compression issues, plays without hiccups and all sound and subtitles are always in sync even skipping forward or back. This is files on my pc. It also steams 1080p slingbox content to my tab 2 via the slingplayer app for 3+ hours without a single hiccup while I watched the eagles-redskins game on Monday night.
So again sorry your having issues but don't tell me mine is having flawed playback. In other words speak for yourself.

Then you have a jacked up tab 2 lol sorry about your luck bro. Should have changed it out. deal with it i guess.
Bah I have a quadcore note 2 and it has trouble on true 1080 playback. I have to switch to sw decoding when they get to large. I also have the tab 2 and it has trouble on true 1080 maybe not a fake 1 1/2 gig 1080 rip but a real 1080 flick will stop that tab in its tracks. Again 1080 just isnt worth the trouble on handhelds there is no difference between 720 and 1080 on that tab. So why make it struggle to playback anyways. To each there own but it really is a waste.

That's why I'm thinking to myself too...use my laptop (doesn't have dual band wifi) for it...chances are a miniaturized 'micro' dual band USB adapter will be out sooner and cheaper for my laptop than this tablet.
Use the tablet for 720, Youtube, Internet and E-book reading
