What kernels can I use? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I'm currently running the GPE rom and everything is smooth. I'm curious though what other kernels I can use. Is it like AOSP where I can use any AOSP kernel or is it like sense and I have to use a Verizon one. Or are sense and GPE the same kernel and be used interchangeably? I think I'm on ElementalX right now. What else is available?
Thanks

Very few for Verizon gpe. As far as I know the only compatible kernels are those in the gpe aroma installer. I'm not too familiar with gpe though so I may be wrong.

So far. Skydragon GPE (that's what I use. Works great!), stock, then ElementalX. OP is planning on adding more once the thread gets reopened. I think getting some from the sprint GPE with the help of captain_throwback ?

Do you can run any GPE Roms? They don't need to be built specifically for Verizon? Or do the kernels just need to be Verizon? I just don't want to mess up my phone.

Some kernels are device specific. I would suggest only trying skydragon GPE, elemental, and stock right now. Always make a backup before though. But I'm pretty sure digitalhigh is bringing some from sprint with captain_throwback. So, there might be more coming soon. ??

Edit: Adding some stuff..
If you look through the main HTC M8 forum. You will find a lot of different ROMs. A lot of these, you must check. Not just any GPE will run on our phone. You can flash another ROM from a different company with a Super_CID if I'm right. But a lot of other GPE ROMs you see are GSM. Were CDMA. So, just stick with the three kernels for right now.

THX! I will try to port to HTC J Z321E, but I want to know the kernel can use 4.1.1 (3.4.10) ?
Great! Can anyone extract the radio and make a flashable zip?
Yes I was also curious whether a 3.4.1.0 kernel will work. ShowP had an excellent kernel that works for One S sense jelly bean 4.1.1 anyone try using it here?

I was using the radio, adsp, wcnss, and rcdata on cm10.2 for few days. I found my 3g much less reliable than on 1.13 or 1.15. Anyone else tested?
I can upload it this weekend if no one does beforr

Ok. Maximus is cool but i went back to beanstalk. should i try it or rather not
Just to thank you...
I pressed "Thanks" button. But who would say it's enough for someone who gave my One S a second life ?
About a week ago, I was pretty sure we'll get stuck on JB 4.1 with that good old Sense 4. That was good for me. I liked the phone for what it is. I liked stock ROM, even if the dark AOSP look and feel would have better suited my theme, but at least, everything worked fine. Our device has great battery life, makes marvellous pictures, brings a good sound for calls. I once was a flashoholic, but that was before. Always unlocking, modding, installing new things, with those bugs and missing functions... but I grew up since that time. I can't afford having an half working device anymore, so I calmed down.
I was stuck in the idea what I had was enough. Especially when I saw those useless threads about Sense 5 upgrade, which would come, then not, and recome, but in fact not... Boring and pathetic. And you brought another light of hope. YOU had that leak... You had the Grail. You gave it to us, Maximus HD is a great ROM, I've tried it for a day before you release the dump. It was night and day comparing Sense 4.I feel my phone is complete now. But I like vanilla flavour, so I've build a stock ROM for to fit my needs. You gave us another great gift.
Just a last time, thank you.
I did not get one thing. is this a leak of original hos rom to come or port from a different device?
It's a rom fully fonctionnal, but I think HTC will never release it, it's only for us flashmaniacs
But I wonder why the hell no one is using this 100% working rom as base, to bring us sense 5 with some tweaks ?

Because of the firmware update you have to do that's why us devs are trying to fix up our ports we have one bug left and it would be the equivalent of labs Rom
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
OK thanks, that mean with this new firmware some devs tools or other things about developping aren't good for now. Anyway, if everything has been resized and ported to One S, that's a good news
There always tends to be small bugs with the ports... Major ones tend to get fixed... But small ones overlooked or persist for a while. For example I could never get the htc media link to work from the ports (although maybe newer updates could fix that). And some may find a benefit in the firmware update too. But to each their own. Its just good to see dev still working on our One S... Im just waiting for custom kernels to get a bit better on either ports or this one... Always love what ShowP's kernel based Mpdecision does to battery life.

Thanks but what I ask is if this rom is orginally developed for HOS or is it a port made by some other devs. I had a glimpse from your post that it is coming from HTC but just want to make sure it is because all the other sense 5 roms derives from evita afaik.

[Q] Not sure which custom ROM to go with

Hi all,
I've been digging around this subforum and the unbranded M8 forum, I'm trying to figure out which custom ROM I want to go with but can't decide- they all have really neat features which I like.
I have an HTC One M8 Verizon, running an official/dev bootloader 1.55.605.2, unlocked bootloader, S-OFF and rooted, stock Android 4.4.2 Sense 6.0
I'm considering InsertCoin, but am not sure if it's compatible with my current setup, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2727300
Also considering VenomOne, but again, not sure about the bootloader version, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705292
Any ideas or advice? Switching my bootloader is not something I really want to do at the moment, but I could if needed. The reason why I'd rather not switch it is because I have a bootloader which is signed by HTC & has full adb root/su
Since you accepted the OTA before you rooted and are on the latest build number you can run both of those fine.

Either will work fine with your setup. I keep trying different AOSP roms but keep coming back to Viper. Still too many bugs yet for me to use as a daily driver.

Viper is known to be the king of customization. Everything can be changed and I mean everything. I've heard very nice things about insert coin too however. Its really up to you! Make a backup, and give em both a shot! You may also want to consider nV ROM I've heard nice things about that too. I myself am content on CleanROM as I said until aosp is more straightened out.

Awesome! Thank you, I'll look into all of these-
Quick question before I flash my stuff, is it possible to install ViperOne without changing my boot image? I'm looking inside the viper zip and there's a boot image there.
Try the newest GPE. I have been running it for over a day and that is the longest I have been off Viper. A few cosmetic issues but been very solid and is nice and light. About as close to the pure Google experience as you can get.
Oh yea, and it's the first 4.4.3 rom out for the M8 I believe.
Agree gpe ROM is great

I was on cleanrom and skyfall for a while using sensetoolbox to xustomize and was happy for a while but after I tried viper out I love it, so much to change and play with its great (I do love customization though) and running with faux kernel it has been superb

I like the Skyfall but always come back to Viper for the exchange mod. If they would add that to Skyfall I would stay there.
Why not try 'em all?
When you install a custom ROM and configure it to suit you with all your apps installed backup your apps, etc. and then reboot to recovery, backup your ROM and wipe and install the next ROM.
It'll take you a few days but you'll find the one you like and be able to switch anytime by rebooting into recovery and restoring the backup of the ROM you want.
FWIW, I was running CyanogenMod last night but had a problem connecting to the free WiFi in the restaurant so I rebooted to recovery, did a backup of CM, deleted old backup of CM and restored my Clean Rom back up to see if it would connect, it did and now I'm on Clean until CM gets a few more updates to fix WiFi, it took only a few minutes to switch.

Just a question since I don't know about your carrier but it's a good question since you live in a completely differnet area from mine, How's your reception over there?
With a international rom there shouldn't be a difference with anything from the ROMs over here but I need this information for something.
BTW this will make the VZW m8 into a Fully Compatible T-Mobile Version (However that requires some common SENSE ), that thread is severely outdated for today.
Also about Layopta's kernel; tip - Just pick the international version and do UNIVERISAL RAMDISK, forget about Verizon, free yourself folks, free yourself.

Question about GPE roms

As of this moment I have Venom rom installed on my HTC one M8, but I want a GPE rom because I would like to install Xposed. Can I just flash it after a full wipe or do I need to flash other stuff?
I want to flash Team Nocturnal Sinless on my HTC One M8 and a little confused on this matter.
You just flash it like any other rom, assuming you have Lollipop firmware already.
Having said that, you DO realize you can use Xposed on a Sense based rom (such as Venom) as well, right?
GPE is not a requirement for using the Xposed Framework...
Awesome, wasnt aware of that. I just want to try a different rom thats all. I do have the lolipop firmware.

No ROMs based on official stock from Google. Why?

I've always asked to me this thing, because I don't want to install a AOSP ROM, I prefer to stay stock and flash some mods and kernels. It is not possible?
In the case of AOSP roms, the camera has the same quality as the Google's stock roms?
Maybe you can try PureNexus, it's so stable and even faster than stock. Same camera quality as stock, even whole UI is same as stock, just some additional features.
BTW you can also flash kernel on stock rom.

The camera quality is the same as stock. It looks the same as stock, performs better, and you lose zero features. Why are you looking for a stock-based ROM then, is the question?

I don't really get what you mean. With Samsung you lose a lot of features going from TouchWiz to AOSP. You don't lose any features going from the stock Pixel OS to say PureNexus. It looks the same, has the same features and more, better performance, etc.

The camera quality is the same as stock. It looks the same as stock, performs better, and you lose zero features. Why are you looking for a stock-based ROM then, is the question?

Dude, just root it, enjoy stock if you want and flash a custom kernel. If you decide to venture out, give PN a try.. It is exactly what you're looking for, just an AOSP rom. There is barely any difference between a stock google rom and AOSP.. no one is going to build a stock google rom, it's a waste of time
If you have an unlocked bootloader, but completely stock ROM does Android Pay work along with OTA updates, or just OTA updates ?

If you install one of the custom kernels and don't root the phone it will work. It won't work without the custom kernel though.

ah darn ok. Right now I'm just running stock, custom kernel, and SuperSU. I'm not sure if it is just getting older or what, but I haven't felt the need to beyond this with the phone I just got. My Nexuses all are customized, but this is just pretty basic.
The benefit I suppose is even with root and a custom kernel the ROM is still pretty reliable. Other custom ROMs in the past usually would have things come up from time to time. Nonetheless, I'm always thankful for the work the devs do:good:

Pure Nexus is as reliable as stock in my opinion. Never had one hiccup.

I have to agree. Never had a single issue, great battery and smooth as butter.
Yeah I've had stock lock up for me once. Been running PN since January and it's more stable then stock.
Why no one is building of stock ROM no idea. WETA was based on stock, but he stopped development when all the AOSP ROMs came out.
