Do i just unlock my bootloader, then fastboot install recovery and start installing custom roms?
Or do i need to change my CID, update to the latest ATT RUU (1.85?) then unlock the bootloader again, then install a recovery and rom?
i'm still on stock Rogers 1.73
The first one.
awesome
so people were only updating to 1.85 becuase there weren't any custom roms yet right?
when custom roms came at first we had to update to whatever base the rom was using.
Now we can install kernels along with the roms so there's no need to do that anymore

So we need to install the roms, along with a kernel update.zip?
Or does it all come packaged like it does for other phones.

Just flash away. It will install the kernel for you. If you want to add Elemental, I'd suggest using flash gui app. It's never failed me. Also, make sure you download the ElementalX1.5. I had issues with tweaks force closing on anything less than. 1.5.
If you want to ensure Viper installs correctly, get the flash gui app and follow the wizard. Then point the app to the viper zip, then flash it. Manually go into recovery (twrp) and wipe everything, including system and do a factory reset all inside twrp.
Follow the install instruction and your going to then love you're phone even more

Thank you for the response..I finally just broke down and went balls in through twrp and found out I was completely over thinking it...aroma installer is amazing..this phone is amazing I'm in heaven no lag glitch anything...just wow

Well, if he doesn't have issue with signal, then you shouldn't have to flash the new ML1 modem. If you want to flash it anyway then here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313
There are a bunch of custom rom, either TouchWiz custom rom or just custom rom you can choose from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-verizon/development
If you want to stay away from bugs, pick the one that close to stock rom as much as possible.

What is your baseband? If your is already MF1 (I think you are), then just download the ML1 zip and flash it.
I'm currently running the GPE rom and everything is smooth. I'm curious though what other kernels I can use. Is it like AOSP where I can use any AOSP kernel or is it like sense and I have to use a Verizon one. Or are sense and GPE the same kernel and be used interchangeably? I think I'm on ElementalX right now. What else is available?
Thanks

Very few for Verizon gpe. As far as I know the only compatible kernels are those in the gpe aroma installer. I'm not too familiar with gpe though so I may be wrong.

So far. Skydragon GPE (that's what I use. Works great!), stock, then ElementalX. OP is planning on adding more once the thread gets reopened. I think getting some from the sprint GPE with the help of captain_throwback ?

Do you can run any GPE Roms? They don't need to be built specifically for Verizon? Or do the kernels just need to be Verizon? I just don't want to mess up my phone.

Some kernels are device specific. I would suggest only trying skydragon GPE, elemental, and stock right now. Always make a backup before though. But I'm pretty sure digitalhigh is bringing some from sprint with captain_throwback. So, there might be more coming soon. ??

Edit: Adding some stuff..
If you look through the main HTC M8 forum. You will find a lot of different ROMs. A lot of these, you must check. Not just any GPE will run on our phone. You can flash another ROM from a different company with a Super_CID if I'm right. But a lot of other GPE ROMs you see are GSM. Were CDMA. So, just stick with the three kernels for right now.
First of all this NOT Covert HTC One M8 Verizon to Fully Compatible T-Mobile Version which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710720!.I didn't find this & i was told by 2 xda members.I love my vzw m8 & the development here. But i always wanted to flash international roms since im using GSM carrier. As far as i knew we can't flash GSM roms on our CDMA phone expect ALL Variant supports roms.I was reading on a rom thread & i saw a guy that he flash CleanROM on his international 8!..Then i asked him how & he told me he flash any rom & most importantly he flash All Variant support kernel. Also another guy told me that he is flashing int roms on his VZW M8 & he told me the same about kernel. This is a risk. But i took chance & flash a International ROMs which is EragonM8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/rom-24-1-eragonm8-1-0-4-16-401-9-sense-t3011968.Then the kernel.WOW!It actually works!:victory:..Enough talk. Here is the guide to flash.

Just a question since I don't know about your carrier but it's a good question since you live in a completely differnet area from mine, How's your reception over there?
With a international rom there shouldn't be a difference with anything from the ROMs over here but I need this information for something.
BTW this will make the VZW m8 into a Fully Compatible T-Mobile Version (However that requires some common SENSE ), that thread is severely outdated for today.
Also about Layopta's kernel; tip - Just pick the international version and do UNIVERISAL RAMDISK, forget about Verizon, free yourself folks, free yourself.

Just make sure you are on latest Verizon firmware before flash flash any ROM and you are welcome to try.Read previous comments then you will see people who have succeeded and I've also flashed almost any GSM international ROM up to date.
What about the marshmallow gpe rom can that be flashed too or do the kernels not support 6.0 yet?

Yes you need a 6.0 kernel, which doesn't yet exist for Verizon
Edit: it does now apparently, try this
