Hi,
ATM I'm running KK4.4.2+Cataclysm. My question is, can I update safely or I need to do something?
Thanks
Update safely? Cataclysm didn't have an update to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4. You'll need to start from a different ROM or start from stock if you want to update.
Seeing a stupid comment on Google Play about an app you love and marking it as "spam". You've done it too.
Cataclysm is gone. You need a new rom. You'll like purity if you like Cataclysm

It really depends what you mean by "update"
If you mean "can I install the OTA?" then no. If you mean "Can I install a 4.4.4 full ROM?" then yes.

Yes, I mean OTA. The only way to update is via ROM?

No need to sulk. Dirty flash Vomer's stock rooted 4.4.4 rom and see if everything works. If it doesn't only then do a clean wipe. Same goes for Purity if you want to try that out

Update the entire ROM. OTA is designed to patch existng system files in your rom 9adding new code to existing code), but you're using a modified rom so this code will cause problems and lead to an unstable device.
Just go into recovery and flash the rooted stock rom which you can find in the resources section in my signature. If you want a rom with more functionality than stock, just find one in the dev sections and do the same.

you will never be able to accept and install an OTA with a custom rom. this using roms 101 stuff.
you need to seriously read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217

Currently running miui with matrix kernel and I'm looking into flashing a stock gingerbread ROM to receive ics when it is released. I've flashed customs ROMs before but have never gone back to stock. How do I go about doing this? Will I need to reroot my phone? And will I be able to flash a kernel on the stock ROM? Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. Someone kind will post it here in a zip file soon after release i would imagine!

This is not necessary; somebody will almost certainly post a zip of it here you can flash.

No. As long as you have CWM, you're all set.

If someone makes one, sure.
sorry for abusing you thread, mokflurry, but i also have a question regarding requirements for the upcoming ota-update.
i am running stock rom, rooted, with cwm and custom kernel.
regarding the recovery, i already read, that this shouldn't be a problem. can anybody confirm that?
and what about the kernel? will i have to return to complete stock for ota?
thanks in advance!
yours

You can be rooted with another recovery, But need stock rom and kernel.
Until and unless you believe that you will be the first one to get the OTA, you need not worry about the OTA. It will be up on XDA as soon as OTA is rolled and you be flashing it even before the OTA is actually is pushed to you

ota updates you wont get with a custom kernel. you need to have everything(besides the root binaries) completely stock, no modifications at all.

actually deodexed might not receive an ota, since the odex files are "removed". but for that im unsure.

odexed version with stock recovery as well. but why do you need an ota? many times theres a custom rom or a stock aosp rom ready with the new code by the time the ota starts. maybe at lates a few days after there are rooted roms already out.

Hey,
Just one problem, after I installed the stock rom, some applications stopped to run, and when I connect it to the computer (With USB Debugging and MTP) it's just showing me a "Internal memory" and I cant copy anything...
Not sure where but I read that if anything under /system/app is modified it automatically disables Ota. If that's true that would mean you'd need an odexed ROM with no SuperSU and definitely stock kernel.

no you can get the OTA with SuperSu/Superuser.
the issue the missing odex files. the OTA performs a check and looks for those.

You're running Optipop, a custom rom, and Uber, a custom kernel. You're going to have to update manually. You're not tied to that rom/kernel but it's a good combo.

Thanks how do i update manually? Sorry for all the questions

You can`t if you have have a custom rom, recovery, kernel and changed the system. You have to be full stock and made no alteration in any way to the system.

Oh ok,thanks. Anyway to go back stock or should i leave well enough alone?

You can always flash the full 5.0.1 factory image, but if you`re happy with your current rom just leave it as it is mate
Anyone have a link of a Verizon lollipop OTA update for the M8 that is rooted? It is for the wife's phone and she does not feel comfortable using a custom rom. It seemed like rooted 4.4.4 OTA came out pretty quick for the M8 last time but I have not been able to find lollipop yet.
Thank you
If that phone is S-off use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...zip-ruu-m8vzw-5-0-1-s-off-onlynewest-t3047103

Yes that is the ROM that we used and was able to just update the phone without having to do a full wipe of her phone. I was hoping to find a lollipop update just like the one he did. I wish she would use a custom ROM as it would be so much easier bit I can not talk her into it.

i changed bonestock over to "fluent rom" now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...rom-fluent-rom-v1-0-rls1-4-16-1540-8-t3007173
@jpennin217 You do realize you have to flash the LP firmware before you can flash any LP-rom, right?
After that, just flash whatever you like and tell her that's what stock Lollipop looks like :cyclops:
Upgrading to LP you will at least have to wipe cache, Dalvik and data requiring you to install all your apps again.
Use HTC Backup to save apps and their data, access points etc - but that's never perfect. To some extent you will have to start fresh. This is more than a simple same version upgrade.

Prepare your devices fellas , 7.1.1 is about to roll out cause there's an article on bgr said so
I personally wanna wait 'til Xposed is compatible for nougat.
http://www.bgr.in/news/motorola-moto-x-style-android-nougat-7-1-1-update-starts-rolling-out/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/nougat-update-started-rolling-t3526308
I don't see how a benchmark entry suddenly means official Nougat is rolling out anyway.
Yeah, that headline is hyperbole. It's a good indicator that it's getting closer. Not that it is about to our is rolling out.
Oh look, another Nougat roll out thread with the same image as all of the others.

Your Phone will give the message that there is an update to new software. But as soon you will try to install it, it will fail.
OTA can't be installed on custom recovery, you need te be on stock rom, stock recovery and unrooted.
There are a few posts on the general section to go back to scratch, or just wait till a developer makes an stock based rom on 7.1.

Do you mean FlashFire? flashfire warns you that Motorola devices are Experimental.
Isn't it risky to from 6 to 7 with flashfire? And sure you may not have Xposed Framework installed.

Flashfire is of course what I meant, Doh on my part!! Never had any issues with it working with my Moto X Style. I would imagine that Motorola have factored in that the majority of their users will still be running an out of date version of Android and that it will go from 6 to 7 with little if any issues. I'll be giving it a try from a custom 7.1.1 rom first before wiping my device and trying it that way, once (if!) it comes out of course.
