Hello, new to the forums but I've been reading for a few days now. I have an issue regarding my home application/screen reloading after RAM intensive apps are closed. Before you yell at me to use the search function, I've been trying to research how to do this for several hours now.
I found this guide: http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Opera...o-modify-your-Android-phone/m-p/182602#M14221
My hardware is a T-Mobile myTouch3G (32B) running cyanogenmod 4.2.7.1 (latest stable build).
I tried to follow "
How to change your Linux-Swap Swappiness(Permanently)" but I noticed that in /system/bin I don't have a user.conf file. Is this normal or have I missed something?
I was also reading this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714 but I don't think this is what I am looking for. I just want to get rid of the screen reloading issue, I don't want to mess with apps2sd or partitioning (unless that is necessary for the home screen issue fix...).
I'm very confused as to what to do, perhaps someone can point me in the right direction?
Could anyone please clarify?
Finally found a fix. I know a lot of other people were struggling with this so I thought I'd share. Here's what helped me:

Hello,
I was wondering if there was an Android app like Activator on the iPhone? I have searched to the best of my abilities regarding this question but have not found a clear answer. The closest I have come to finding this answer was the app "LaunchKey." However, it does not seem to fit what I am looking for.
Reason for this search is due to my brief episode with the iPhone 3g and yes I know...(after finding out, android system is definitely better in terms of customizing and freedom) Thus during that time I came upon this app called "Activator", which is basically amazing. Now that I am back using the android system I realized the only I miss about the iPhone was that app.
So if anyone can help that would be great! Thanks!
BTW:
Background information on the iPhone jailbreak app "Activator." Basically you can launch any apps and system actions via gestures or hardware buttons. (such as long-press, short-press, double tap,etc...)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
and for gestures Im not entirely sure where I saw it or or what it was called but it does exist.
Reply
Thanks for the reply, however, I did stumble upon that app but it does not really support long press, short press, double tap and other various hardware buttons. As for gestures, I guess it does not matter as much as the hardware button configuration. Basically can a button have more functions than just one ie: home button-going to home. Thanks
I'm hoping that this app exists, as its one of the first apps I discovered years ago that was auto installed after jail breaking my previous iPhone. The app basically allows you customize a very large range of settings as shortcuts.
http://m.lifehacker.com/5899492/mak...hen-you-connect-or-disconnect-your-headphones
not strongly related but here's an app which I found very useful:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tora.mamma.swipestart
Thanks!
Thanks for your input I however have found the app "SwipePad" to be extremely useful, albeit not the original application I was looking for but it does the job Thank you again!
really!!! Android is amazing, I think is like a pocket pc, but sometimes I miss my old iPhone when I remember cydia tweeks like Activator. :silly:

OMG This is what I want to say my Android Friends Iphone tweaks are more easy way to go, im wondering How can I get Activator !!! >> since 4 years im iphone user and recently bought Note 2 (still I have Iphone) this entire conversation is what im looking for Please help to get a tweaks like that even I looked Cydia substrate for Android mm no use as of know....
Widgets are great but you still have to unlock the phone and look at the screen and press it. With activator you can, for example, press the power button of the phone twice and that will initiate the flash light... this is much better when you are in need of the flash light quickly...I wish android had something like that...

I believe since the time I have posted this question to the present, there have been alternatives as well as actual implementations to the hardware tweaks. Currently, there are baked in hardware tweaks in custom ROM such as CM10.1 (lock screen long press buttons do variety of different things) or software programs such as swipepad, or Trigger app (Both of which I use a lot)
My current ROM CM10.1 has the capability of accessing the flashlight from the longpress of home button while in lockscreen. Or even changing music volume and music track by volume press/longpress. This I consider the equivilent of what you were referring to.

Thanks for the Update, awesome response, I'm new to Android and have few questions
1) if I do Custom Rom CM10.1 can I get is back to normal Stock ROM to get warranty back ?
2) If so what would be the best procedure to install CM10.1 ?
I already root my Stock Rom with Rooting using Odin by Beginners Guide
3) So would I be able to install CM10.1 after rooting my custom Rom
4) If possible also please point me(url) to unroot custom Rom to Stock Operating system please (for future need).
5) And also I heard a lot about cm10, cm10 nightly, cm10 aopk which one is better or all these same ? I have international Note 2 with

**ATTENTION: any of the information I have provided are based on my own experience/knowledge/research. IT IS IMPERATIVE(important) that you do your own research to double check my information and advice. If ever in DOUBT, ask/research around. (or dont follow through is usually the safest option) YOU are ultimately responsible for what you do with YOUR device, if you don't believe this, please do not continue dabbling in this area.
You should be able to do that, to "unroot" your phone, but it depends on the device as well as the instructions that other developers/rooters have given. (meaning not 100% probable, you need to do more research)
*JUST NOTICED YOU SAID YOU ARE ROOTED
-To get Stock ROM, just download the appropriate ROM zip files and then flash it.
-if you want to get warranty back, you will have to follow instructions for your device on how to unroot. (if even possible)
Follow the instructions given on the cyanogenmod website, usually involves flashing and wiping. (sounds like you have a samsung phone )
Based on question 3 statement, I believe you have to do MORE research. (as this is an extremely basic idea of rooting, unless of course I misread or the question was mistyped) Here is where you can start:CM about
Again, you have to do MORE research yourself, google is your friend for that. There is no one size fits all unrooting method.
Cyanogenmod (also known as CM) has an software release life cycle. (not counting the M snapshot nor experiments) You have Stable>Nightly> Release Candidates(RC).
Taken from this Forum
bassmadrigal:
Stable is after all the features desired by the CM devs have been put in and the code has been tested. Snapshots (M builds) are builds done roughly once a month that has had some testing to make sure things are mostly working and released to the public. These are the first builds that allow official bug reports on the project manager site, https://jira.cyanogenmod.org. Nightlies are automated builds that are built, well, every night. There is no human interaction with these and they are largely there just to see if the code added throughout the day will compile. As far as the devs are concerned, there are no bad builds with the nightlies, because if it doesn't build, that is news to let them know that something is screwed up in the code. They don't accept any bug reports on these builds.
Generally, the nightly builds, while extremely experimental and considered bleeding-edge, tend to be relatively stable and mostly bug-free. Many people use the nightlies as their so-called daily-driver, meaning that any bugs that they may have aren't so severe that they want to switch to a different version. For my Nexus 4, as soon as I got it I switched to a nightly build and haven't had any bugs pop up.
Also, all builds are full builds, so if you switch to a nightly, you aren't required to flash every single nightly. You can do it as you see fit. I've been known sometimes to flash a build every day, but then I've gone a month in between updating. Just grab the latest version you want to flash and flash that one.

I have a desire for an Android phone that will automatically boot up whenever it is connected to the charger. I know this cannot not be done using the standard Android API. So, I am now looking at ways I can accomplish this by altering the phone's ROM.
I am currently using a Samsung Droid Charge for this, but I am willing to change phones if it would make it easier. I have downloaded the OS source from Samsung and started poking around, but it's is pretty overwhelming.
The problem is that I am not sure what layer of abstraction these mods would have to take place (The Android OS, the Linux Kernel, or the hardware drivers). Once that is determined, I will have to determine 1. where to make the call to boot and 2. what call/calls I need to make to boot the device. I assume this would be the same place the battery animation (that shows when charging but not booted) is controlled, but I don't know where that is.
I am not looking for anyone to do my work for me. I mainly need a place to start looking. Any insight at all into this matter would be greatly appreciated. If this doesn't belong in this forum, my greatest apologies.
I know nothing about how to do this but my HTC Evo Shift actually used to boot up when plugged into the charger due to a bug in CWM recovery. Koush fixed it a couple updates ago though. So, apparently it (at least on my Shift) has something to do with recovery.

I think this thread may be more appropriate in the "Chef Central - Android" forums since it is directly related to ROM cooking and not app development.
If a mod could move this thread there, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry I didn't post this there originally.
There is an app avaible on google play/ google market
there is an app available that can perform this task. it is developed by chainfire and it is called as "NoMoarPowah!"
Hi, I recently bought fantastic tablet Point of View Protab 2 IPS 9.7. Basically it is Allwinner A10 device. I tried to install new CyanogenMod 10 on it. Everything works flawessly, except one thing. I don't have any touchcontrols, probably because, I don't know what compatibility pack should I install. Could someone please give me advice, what drivers should I install to get working touchscreen on jelly beans 4.1(CM10)?

I have been trying to get it running myself so far I have tried just about every compatibilty pack.
All I know so far is this device has an upsidedown screen, and other users have had to make thier own comp packs with the "sun4i" which I think is the touch control.
Please let me know if you have any luck.

Hm, that's too bad. I hope, that someone will have drivers. Anyway, I will try to lsmod loaded drivers and built my own pack. Wish me luck.
Since I recently bought one of this, I would like to know if you had any effort on making it compatible to CM10. I really would like to use it. If I could help you with anything, let me know
I managed to extract the kernel module wich is called pixcir_touch.ko
Unfortunately it is not usable with the latest CM-Version due to a different Kernel Version.
When I try to load the module in CM10 with insmod, it returns an Exec format error.
dmesg then gives me an error indicating that this module is not appliable to the current kernel version (I can hand the detailed message, if you will).
I have no idea how to continue. Here is a link to the .ko module:
share-online.biz /dl/5BTVE4GMTX
Maybe this is a source code for the necessary driver to compile it, but I'm not sure and also my skills aren't good enough to compile it myself:
(google for auo-pixcir-ts.c)
Maybe someone could help me get this running.

has anyone found or compiled the module yet?
I looked through most of the compatibility files and could not find it.
Would be awesome to have a good 4.1 on this tablet!

I have send a mail to their support people to request the kernel source.
Let's hope they comply to the GPL.
Another approach would be to donwload a kernel tree from CM 10 and try to compile the source code you linked to.
Are you sure it is the proper driver?
Would be awesome if this pulls off
No i'm not sure. This is the only pixcir driver file I could find on the Internet
Hopefully they reply to your mail. The current Rom is very slow compared to the cm10.
Unfortunately my device was in a bootloop and i had to return it for repair.
Let me know when you receive an answer

Well, I did receive an answer, which in short said they cannot provide the source code.
I pointed to the GPL license and requested them to contact the lawyer department if they have one.
If they refuse, I am not sure what options there are to enforce it.
Some usefull info I found here:
https://android.googlesource.com/ke...885aa51f1abf3c40/drivers/hid/hid-multitouch.c
I read somewhere that support for this display is added by Stephane Chatty of ENAC.
Maybe someone can work with that source?
Mr. Chatty helped me before with a touch driver, if you do you some proper work and get stuck, I am sure you can contact him for help.
Personally I would love to dive in, but I can't find the time now.
Perhaps this helps some devs?
Can't imagine those drivers can't be made. Probably some dev setup on Linux for the proper 4.1 kernel version.
There is a ton of information on that.
this link is also interesting:
https://build.pub.meego.com/package...Project:KDE:Mer_Extras:Adaptation:Archos-gen9
It suggests they are in the Archos gen 9 and also that some kind of calibration is being developed.
Perhaps the ko can be pulled from an Archos gen9 rom ?
I saw your posting over in the Archos G9 Forums. Hopefully there is a chance to reuse this. I posted the same question in a large german Android-Forum. Maybe we can get it from there if noone replys here.
Furthermore the Archos seems to use two different touchscreen-devices: bit.ly / VUo71L
If you're correct, this might be the uncompiled driver: bit.ly / UIJ2Bq
But still I neither have an idea how to compile this, nor is my device back from repair.

ok, np. sorry did not know that. I think we have gathered quite some resources for devs.
Perhaps someone can create a forum item for our device?
Sorry, personally I cannot find time at the moment.

another tip.
The main reason I wanted to update, because the browser was performing like thick **** rolling up a mountain against the wind.
And it hanged too sometimes.
When checking processes I noticed the nandd process being on top often.
After googling that process, I found somebody else also had a slow browser issue caused by this process.
He fixed it with a factory reset.
I did that too, and now the problem is solved.
I can also recommend installing setcpu. You can overclock till about 1200 (mine 1152 now) which makes it a bit snappier.
Mine is rooted by default, it just works, not sure if this is always the case.
And please mail POV for the kernel source .

Yeah, The overclcok makes a huge difference also changing governer to performance and io sceduler to noop.
Before my 8 year old used my tablet as a frisbee, I was trying to tweak it futher with pimp my rom from the market, it has some great tweaks for this tab.
I never got any increase in the benchmarks but resposiveness was up with my tegra phone.
Also opera is a fantstic browser for this tab, once ya figure out how to use it you will be hooked.

You can change the sceduler in SetCPU
Also i found if i had performance governer enabled i couldnt over clock past 1100 or it would reboot its self
Bought myself this tablet as well. is all nice and good but the 3G is giving me a headache. with the stock rom it works excatly as long as you don't turn on wifi. after that even if you turn wifi off again it wont connect to 3G anymore.
Firmware side isn't helping much either. V4.008 is without 3G (in the settings there is now only a list of supported dongles. and the 3Gfix image has same issue, you see 3G only once until you turn on wifi)
So i was hoping for a better rom but looks like the CM9/CM10 department can't help either. So i was hopin if you guys have had any progress.
E: i have been in contact with POV support over the last week and the only useful intel i ahve gotten out of them is that as far as they are aware there are no clones for this tablet. Also it appears that there is a android 4.1 based firmware for the tablet in the testing. They are not sure if they release it tough.
anybody tried to fix a touch driver for this device?
I had to send my tab back for repair since my headphone jack wasn't working anymore.
Unfortunately they were out of stock so that they couldn't send me a new one and refunded me.
I will not buy a new protab2 9,7 because it's so laggy. I hope you all can figure out a solution for the touch-issue. I'll leave you here, guys. Thanks for your help anyways
Nothing yet?
I see there are a compability zip for the protab2xxl at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760929, annyone knows if that is helpful for the protab 2 IPS 9?
I would be grateful if anyone with more knowledge than I would be so kind as to give me instruction on how to write a patch to modify some settings on my SGH-i497, relating to touchscreen sensitivity and other settings. There are no compatible apps (to my knowledge) and almost no information or development. This is a rampant problem with users who want to use a stylus on the Tab 2. I am in search of a solution.
Running TWRP 2.4.4, SuperSU, ROOT, Stock everything else.
AT&T 4GLTE Tab 2 "10.1" SGH-i497.
I do not want to install a custom kernel or ROM at this time due to a lack of development. I just want to change a few settings to make my touchscreen more sensitive, and to reduce the track delay to zero. There is an app that does this for several Samsung devices, and will function on the Tab 2, but it has incompatible superuser protocols, and will not save settings. Perhaps this app is a good place to start??? Development on this app seems to be dead.
