Need some help with increasing linux swap - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Hello, new to the forums but I've been reading for a few days now. I have an issue regarding my home application/screen reloading after RAM intensive apps are closed. Before you yell at me to use the search function, I've been trying to research how to do this for several hours now.
I found this guide: http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Opera...o-modify-your-Android-phone/m-p/182602#M14221
My hardware is a T-Mobile myTouch3G (32B) running cyanogenmod 4.2.7.1 (latest stable build).
I tried to follow "
How to change your Linux-Swap Swappiness(Permanently)" but I noticed that in /system/bin I don't have a user.conf file. Is this normal or have I missed something?
I was also reading this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714 but I don't think this is what I am looking for. I just want to get rid of the screen reloading issue, I don't want to mess with apps2sd or partitioning (unless that is necessary for the home screen issue fix...).
I'm very confused as to what to do, perhaps someone can point me in the right direction?

Could anyone please clarify?

Finally found a fix. I know a lot of other people were struggling with this so I thought I'd share. Here's what helped me:

[Q] CynogenMod 7 issues on the GTablet

I apologize if this is the wrong area for these questions. I'm having a few issues with my installation of CM7. I've tried looking in several places, but nothing seems to address my problems.
First thing I noticed upon installation was that I was never asked to set up my touchscreen or input my google information. I tried doing this manually by adding an exchange account, but that would not work. I next tried looking for my apps to see if they installed automatically this time around or not and none of my previous apps show, nor does market exist anywhere. Without any instance of market to be found I can't use any of the market fixes. However, without an inputted google id I don't think that would have mattered.
Can anyone guide me to where I can find help for these issues or post any possible solutions?

Google apps - Flash right after you flash CM7. You might have to bypass the setup, but should be able to open the market and input google login. It won't auto download, but you'll have some market access.

Read the dev thread for other issue and such, don't have the time to dig through and help further.

As the previous poster said, install Gapps. That will give you the setup screen the first time you reboot the GTab. As a word of warning, I wasn't able to bypass the first screen (touch the droid) on the main version posted in the development thread (the Beta05), even with the click around the screen. I was able to get past it right away on the "offical" build in post 18 of that thread, however (Beta01).
Let us know if that doesn't fix your problem.
Thanx alot guys. I was finally able to get market going by installing gaps and using the CyanogenMod 7 bet01. I ran into the seup screen issue with the Beta05 just like you warned. I didn't do the full market fix as everything I wanted was readily available. I'm not even sure if the full market is absent or not.
I am noticing that after you mount the USB connection you can't unmount. Also, my internal storage isn't recognized. I think there were fixes for some of this in Beta5. Is there a way to update to Beta 5 without having my previous problems or some other fix for the USB and storeage issues to anyone's knowledge?
flash to vegan5 and you will be way happier.
I tried CM7 and it had so many issues.
Once you flash vegan5 you will actually enjoy your tab
You can try flashing beta5 over beta1 and clear cache/dalvik. I'm not sure if that will work, but would be my best suggestion.
On the other hand, I actually agree with the previous poster saying that vegan is probably the better option at the moment. It seems much more stable and feature complete, even if it is froyo instead of gingerbread.
Either way, make a nandroid backup so you can go back if things go sideways.
I didn't get to post this before the responses. I did actually go ahead and flash over Beta01 with Beta05. I just didn't wipe the data or cache. Everything came back just fine. This fixed the storage and usb issues in Beta01. However, you have the previous audio issue from older builds where you have to plug in headphones and unplug them to get the audio back. I've tried VEGAn 5.1 and it works awesomely. I'm merely choosing aesthetics above overall functionality.
My tab has been delegated to fancy entertainment device (comics, casual browsing, games and video). It does all I need for now. I figure since VEGAn and CM7 are joining forces, why not do the switch early and test it out. I love where they're going with this ROM. I can't wait to get my grubby paws on a finished product.
Again, thanks big time for all the assistance. I generally skulk and read through the threads, but I love this place and all that everyone provides for the lesser technophiles like myself.
I thought maybe I could post my own problems to this thread?
So I'm on cynogen 6.1.1 on htc evo 2.2.1 kernal [email protected] #1
Anyway... I've tried 3 times to install the update to 6.1.2 today and each time it's gotten stuck around 58%. Any links to places I'm sure are there and I just couldn't find?
Also, for some reason, for the first time since I got my evo, I'm getting TONS of errors when attempting to send sms. theres a pink like traingle with a ! in the middle. Any suggestions?
How do I fix the bug with the camera?
You can email me if you like, at [email protected].
I am sort of inbetween a newb and whatever the next level would be, lol. This past week I was able to root, and install a custom mod, AND install an update to that customed mod (which is the one i'm on now) all w/o ever posting any questions to any forums. Hopefully that'll get me some brownie points?
Please PLEASE please!! I will even paypal $10 once I get this resolved.
On bended knee I beg (im not really this dramatic in real life )

My suggestion would be to ask somewhere more appropriate. This thread is for a different version of CM, on a different device all together.

This usually means the installation was corrupted in some manner.
And it's usually because of a corrupt zip one would flash with.
You can reflash cm7 with another fresh downloaded file if you still have access to recovery mode.
Which I think you should be able becase the boot up process makes it up to the "Android" Bootscreen before it starts bootlooping.
From Advanced Recovery mode you can mount the USB option for the SDCard then transfer the fresh DL to your SCDard that way.
Also make sure you are using bekit's version .8 of CWM while in recovery mode.
Grab CWM v.8 from here
Other versions of CWM don't work well with the GTAB.

[Q] Disabling Android 2.2 DropBoxManager

Good Day Folks.
I'm a Noob in need of help and i'm hoping the more experienced among us might be able to assist. I have an issue with disappearing phone storage. Over the course of a week I realized that I was losing about 1MB a day. My phone would basically be dormant and I would still see my storage space dropping by this amount everyday.
Cache cleaning didn't work. Later I realized that Android creates a bunch of log files in Data/System/Dropbox that was responsible for the disappearing phone storage trick I've been seeing for a while now.
I know now that Google has incorporated into Android as of the 2.2 iteration, a DropBox Manager that's responsible for logging all of the events that take place during the course of a running Android session. Everything from what took place at boot to force close details.
I understand that this is used for debugging purposes but I'm no developer . So my question is.... Can this DropBox Manager be disabled....somehow.
I really don't need all these files (and its A LOT OF THEM) being created as they serve no practical purpose for me. Not sure if anyone else might have noticed this but I'm hoping to receive some help. Even if it means pointing me in the right direction so I can work on it myself.
I really don't have a clue on how to start. Any help will be appreciated....Seriously...
Currently using G1 with CM6 Magpie running on EZTERRY's 2.6.34.7 kernel.
Its perfect except for this annoying problem.......
NB: I've posted this before in the general discussions area but should have posted it here first....Sorry about that....

Question about HTK75.US running 8.6.5.13

Hi
Just joined watched the noob vid and all that, and scoured the forums for hours unable to make heads and tails of what I need to do. So here is where I am at:
1. I know what TF I have, HTK75.US running Kernel 2.6.36.3 and a build number of 8.6.5.13
2. I want to have root access for certain apps
3. I have looked at numerous threads and found these to be the most helpful, but I am still unsure as to what needs to be done:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281161&page=7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281161
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251044
4. here is what I currently have installed on my computer:
All asus software and drivers
Brks_rootkit_v7
kwt-cwm-8.6.5.13-proper (from bellybuttonporn.com or whatever)
I also have rom manager and titanium backup apps installed
I have read a lot about people with B70 models and do not think I am in that group because of the HTK thing in my system, but am still a little concerned. I have only stumbled across one user with the same issues as me (tarek Zag) but his english was really bad and don't understand what he did.
If someone knows what I need to do to gain root access could you please give me a layout in a step by step? I know mostly what needs to be done but the meaning and process has become so lost in all the threads (some have over 100 pages) If you don't want to take the time but know a good thread and possibly what page my answer is on could you direct me there?
I know this is asking a lot for my first post, but I have spent so much time trying to do this on my own that I don't know where else to turn. Thanks for even viewing this and thanks x2 if you answer.

Hi, I was on the same hunt as you, but seem to have confirmed I have a B70 edition.
You can find out the same by looking at the S/N on a little sticker next to the dock connection (on the bottom).
I haven't yet found a method to root it, but if I do, I'll be sure to let you know.

[Q] Help editing Android Kernel to remove backlight restrictions

I've managed to successfully compile the kernel and flash it on to my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8010) and am now in the process of editing the kernel to remove the limitations on the backlight.
Short story: I would like to be able to drag the brightness fader all the way down and have the screen go to zero backlight.
Longer story:
No, I do not want to use an app to get this functionality, I would like to implement it in the kernel. I have a vague idea of what I'm doing, but I'm getting confused because there are SO many different files that could be applicable and I can't seem to find the right one. Here's what I've done so far:
- Looked in drivers/video/backlight and tried to find a limitation there (most of them are generic/for limiting the top value).
- Looked in drivers/video/samsung and found the driver for the specific LCD in my device (lcd_type: SEC_LTL101AL01-002/003 - driver file: s3cfb_s6c1372.c) but I don't think that is for the backlight as well...
- Rooted around in many other folders, but think drivers/video/[SOMETHING] is going to be where I change this.
I'm not looking for someone to give me a solution, just a tip in the right direction because this is my first time working at the kernel level and it's a lot of information to take in at once.
Thanks in advance and please ask for clarifications if you are confused, I'm happy to provide them!

Backup Mirrorless Camera SONY ILCE-6500

Hey ya'll!
Been running snooping around the xda forums for a while now (2017?), and even compiled lineageos for myself last year for the first time! Gots a question not phone related though. (o:
I have acquired a sony alpha 6500, and it still has the original firmware on it that it shipped with when it was new (2016). I'd sure like to save that before updating to the newest one, as it seems it could have some value for developers as well as for historical/museum value for archive.org. It seems like it's android based as some of the documentation I was reading suggests that opening an android shell might be useful to me, which I've never done/don't know what to do with.
Some folks have had some success with this tool: https://github.com/ma1co/fwtool.py . I did run the tool with the "--help" command, but it didn't offer any insight to the switches that are available or how to use them and I can't seem to find a manual for the fwtool. I think this is the tool I'm supposed to use to get the camera to give up everything that's on it right now, but i don't actually know.
This site won't let me make an account right now to ask for help: https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12756/sony-alpha-hacks-talk/p11 which seems to be the developer of the software that fwtool.py is a fork of possibly? It didn't have any information about how to use the flags/switches for the app either. That's why I'm asking here
Is anyone able to explain from this information I've found so far what command I would need to run (from linux terminal or windows cmd/powershell) or if there are additional steps needed in order to save or backup the current "ROM/OEM Firmware" that's currently on the camera? Or point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
