How to pull the PRL off the phone? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry I just switched from an HTC One to the Galaxy s 5 and I usually pull corporate prls so others can use them. Not sure how to remove them from this phone tho.

Using the Sprint TP2 on AT&T network

I have a sim & security unlocked Sprint phone touch pro 2 that we use on the AT&T network, USA. It works well, and registers with AT&T, but then after a bit it gets dropped, and pops up asking if you want to register with the network again. My friend has the same thing, and we are using different ROMs, and have tried different radios, but we both have this same issue. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue, maybe a registry edit or something?
thanks.
I'm also curious about this. I'm on Verizon and was given the phone to keep from my last employer and my new one uses AT&T. I haven't done enough digging yet but wanted to *bump* this thread as I'm looking to keep my CDMA VZN phone and use it on AT&T permanently and wanted to know if there are others who have done this already.
*Anyone had success with using their CDMA phone with AT&T/Tmobile without GSM disconnecting as the OP mentions?

wooties, I read somewhere where the verizon touch pro2 works for AT&T GSM in the us, but not sure where. Search xda and ppcgeeks. I have the Sprint touch pro 2.
I just answered this one in another thread, so here is a copy and paste...
With your AT&T SIM in you probably need to set to manual network instead of automatic so it stays connected to AT&T and doesn't try to flip back to CDMA - if you've already one this, then someone else will have to jump in, but the settings are:
All Settings > Personal > Phone > Network (tab) > Mode of Operation = GSM/UMTS Only
This should keep it from jumping back to Sprint and then back to AT&T where it asks you to register again...
Remember though, with a CDMA world phone, you will only get 2G coverage here with your data as the 3G radio is a different frequency.
Hopefully that does the trick - and if not, someone else jump in and save them quick!

PRLs..truths or myths?

Well I am new to this forum, so hopefully this is posted in the correct area...if not maybe it will be moved to where it needs to be...anyways...
I just switched to Verizon and purchased an Incredible, which I love (another topic).....But now I have a question about PRLs. Seems that my main "work" location is not in normal coverage, and I got much better Sprint service.
I called the local techs, (who have upgraded PRLs on other verizon phones that my friends have with Excellant results) and they said that "smartphones" can not use this "hybrid" PRL.
So what is a hybrid PRL. Can it be one that is "not" offical? Or is it just older? And why wouldn't it work with a smartphone?
Any clarifications or suggestions are welcome...btw I tried a XDA topic="Flashing the VZW/Alltel Hybrid PRL( Helps a lot for some !)" with no improvement service improvement. I think they use a "sprint" tower in this "Hybrid" PRL.
why dont you just switch to a a hybrid prl to see if it works. if it does not work switch back to your old prl.
Well the local tech will not load the PRL on my phone...He says it wont work with the "?smartphones?" so thats why I have not tried it. Looking on my friends phone <non-smartphone> the PRL is listed as 50697, which I do not have access too.
The newest PRL that is currently on my phone is 65132, which was received via the normal *228...
I'm still confused about the following.
1. When they say "hybrid" prl do you know if this is referring to an old prl? Or a custom one some tech modified?
2. Also if I use another PRL is it possible to get any hidden charges? (ie if I try some older PRLs.)
3. Are verizon customers allowed to "Roam" off of Sprint towers?
4. Can I personally rip the 50697 PRL off of another phone? (ie VX5500)
Thanks again for any suggestions or help.

Any new info on switching back and forth between LTE phones and Standard 3G phones?

Given the TBolt has the sim card, it seems it would be a little crazy to switch back and forth (if not impossible). This issue was touched a while ago, but is there an easier way yet? I guess anytime you wanted to switch back to the tBolt you needed to get a new SIM card. Is this still the case? Or can you use the website to switch back and forth between phones.
Reason I am asking is that I would like to use the iPhone during my work day since all of our machines are Apple based... and tBolt any other time. It just doesn't seem possible unless something changed?
I was also wondering how this would work. I have several phones and, until recently when I got my Tbolt, would switch between them quite often. Now with my first 4G phone, I wasn't sure that would work. From your post, it sounds like I could go online and switch from my Bolt to one of my 3g devices as I always have, but going back to the 4g Bolt might be a problem? I don't have 4g in my area, but I really am liking my bolt and don't feel the itch to switch devices yet, but I would like to be able to have the option.
Why not just call VZW and ask ?
That would be the easy way to answer your question.

They give different answers each time you call! Depends who you talk to.
if it helps, sim cards are sim cards and the one in the tb (though it works in a slightly different way than what would be normal for a sim) is the same as any other sim card. However, if you switch to activating a 3g phone without a sim card, they will deactivate your tb sim card for sure. They may even if you don't, just because they're verizon and are slightly clueless on how sim cards work still.

Can you ever switch phones online without calling Verizon. I have never been able to do it other than when setting up maybe a new phone but never switching back to an old one. Good luck though it would be nice to be able to freely switch. I have a DInc and OG Droid just sitting here

Switching from 4g to 3g phones you have to call in each time

I have tried switching from 3g phone to 4g phone and it is a pain. You need to call or go into the store and get a new sim card each time. The minute you place a 3g device on your 4g account the sim card is deactivated.
I switch back and forth now because i talked the store manager into giving me a few sim cards. You can also call every other day and have the customer service send you a new one. They are free but some stores will try to charge you.
Once you have the sim card all you need to do is turn off the 3g phone, place the new sim card in and it should activate itself.
Wow thats pretty sad that its this difficult.
I had tried this once and it brought up a question that I did not have the guts to answer myself. If you went back to 3g for a short while then afterwards reactivated on 4g would you loose the grandfathered unlimited data?

Just talked to a VZW rep on the phone, who I'm assuming went to talk to a supervisor or a tech, and she said as long as I keep the sim card in a place where the gold contacts don't get harmed (like in the phone), then I can keep the same sim card between activations, I just have to either call in to switch back to the TB or activate it online.. She talked to someone about this after I asked if I could have a few sent to me, so I'm assuming whomever told her this at least had some knowledge on the situation, but I guess we'll find out when it's time to switch back

the verizon rep that told you you can keep the sim card between activations is wrong. The sim card for verizon doesnt store any data its just basically a key to there 4g service. They can only be used for one activation and once they are deactivated they are dead. The only way to switch back and forth would be to have a surplus of sim cards. You would still have to call in and have them activate the new sim card before using it.
Ii have done this a few times on my thunderbolt so I know from experience.
Not sure on that having multiple SIM cards is right. I have switched between my DX and Tbolt numerous times and never gotten a new sim card. I do have to call every time when reactivating the bolt though.

I can't see how this would work since LTE and gsm cards aren't compatible. If you could do that, you could drop it in most of the decent BlackBerrys and run... But ya can't. Anyone telling you that you can isn't at all familiar with the specs.
What a pain in the butt.

just my experience...
Using the My Account web site, I can...
Change between multiple 3G phones, no problems.
Change from 4G/LTE phone to 3G phone, no problems other than... the Web site warns the LTE SIM will be disabled after 90 days of non-use, implying that you could re-use it for up to 90 days, BUT the SIM gets deactivated immediately.
If I try to change from 3G phone to 4G/LTE phone, no problems IF I have a NEW SIM card. If I try to re-use my SIM it fails and I need to call in. When I call in, its hit or miss if they can enter that same SIM back into the System (customer service can't, but tech support has done it) or make me get a new SIM.
I haven't tried switching in about 3 weeks. So I don't know if anything has changed since.
Also, I find it best to complete the equipment change before 11pm eastern, otherwise the device change could get hung up in VZW's switch/system and not complete/clear until the morning.

At this time, it is still necessry to relace the SIM card if changing from a 4G device to a 3G device. So, if you were to change devices each day, you would need a new SIM card each time. Please check out our forums for updates at our website. Go to the website for Verizon Wireless, click Contact Us, then Customer Forums. You can also sign up for email updates from this site.
Thank you and have a good day!

Swaping sim cards?

ive done a little searching and see this has kinda been touched on, but not in the way i want to know. i have a sg3... 4g (duh) but before this i had the ole' trust TB, my question is this, might get a little confusing... i have two TB's , one was brand new and the other was my daily user. i thought i lost the daily user and filed a claim on insurance and then like two weeks later found the daily user one in a riends car (long night) anyways when i thought i lost the old one i called vzw and told them what happened and they said i could put like a 30 day lock on the sim and no one would be able to call or use data or anything like that for 30 days if they found it, and i could remove the lock if i found it, and if nothing happened, it it would become active again automagicly after 30 days.... well in the mean time i filed the claim and got the new one in and activated it and began to use it, then i found the old one, since the old one was already rooted and had all my stuff on it i started using that one and kept the insurance one as a backup, shortly after all this i upgraded to the gs3, well now i have two TB's with two full size SIM cards, and the galaxy s3 with a micro sim. my question is is there anyway i can use one of the larger sims to put in a usb modem if i can get my hands on one and make it work correctly, i am "grandfathered" in on the unlimited data and plus i just got 4g in my area a few days ago, and i was thinkin if this would somehow work, i would get one of those ?craddlelink? or somethin off of amazon and they will take the 3g/4g usb modems from cell phone carriers and use this as a home access point. i am currently rooted running synergy on the gs3, but i would just like it if i could have a dedicated home routing system, plus it would save battery, tethering 4g is pretty rough on the battery, and HOTTTTT!!!! really HOT, like i think its gonna melt the phone hot!!! anyways much thanks to any and all responses!!! sorry if this is in the wrong spot, wasnt sure to put it here or gs3 vzw, or TB or what. sorry for rambling too.. i do that sometimes
I have one line, I forgot to mention that, but all the sim cards were for that line, I also forgot to ask if I add a line will I lose unlimited on the first line and also I know that viz can tell what device is activated on the SIM but I've heard you can swap it between devices freely, so I was thinking that if I could get one if the sims to work in the modem that it wouldn't matter because I have unlimited, but I didn't know how vz would react to seeing a modem and a phone on one line, if that's even possible

i dont think its possible. on gsm phones you cant, and id consider the n5 a gsm phone, even though its on sprint as well.
I don't have qpst on my computer anymore but I'm going to download it & get my msl & give it a shot. I remember on the evo 3d there was a line of code you had to enter, can't remember where to get qpst to recognize the phone on aosp. Going to look into it.
I have gotten it to work before. There was a thread on here a while back that kind of got you through the steps. It took a few tries but eventually worked.
