Nexus 5 International - Can't Enable Tethering - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All.
I recently noticed my Nexus 5's tethering functionality wasn't working properly. Attached is a screenshot showing the only error message which provides no error code.
I researched the issue and came across 2 main fixes.
Delete \data\misc\wifi
Clear APNs/Restore to defaults
I tried both of these fixes with no success.
Can anyone advise on a probable cause or how I might access further info to resolve the issue? A log possibly? Error Code?
Device Info:
Nexus 5 bought from Australian Google Play Store
Android 4.4.3 stock (Rooted)
Only application I have that interacts with this is Power Toggles however ending the service has no impact.
Thank you for your assistance

Bump
If bumping is against the rules I'm sorry but I haven't been able to use tethering since a a couple weeks before the date of the original post. I'd really appreciate some advice.

[Q] Music Hub, version 15.2012.08.16.03 on GT-N8010

Hello all!
I'm completely stock, no root and have the latest firmware for the nordic countries installed. The other day I wanted to try out the MusicHub-app (see title), which is pre-installed with ICS, but I'm not able to get it to work. I'm wi-fi connected, GPS connected and have my Samsung account on the tablet going, but it's stuck on 'opening' for about 5 minutes and then a dialogue box states (translates to) 'Unable to establish location'. Hitting 'OK' then closes the app.
Anybody seing the same? Am I missing out on something here? Settings? Might it be that the app-version has issues? I have read somewhere that MusicHub is currently not available in all regions - if so, why would the app be pre-installed for my region? I should add that I talked to Samsung, and they had no answer other than trying a factory reset. I actually did that less than two weeks ago so I doubt that it will make any difference.
Any ideas, suggestions or feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks.

After having tested the MusicHub a little I seem to have found what's causing the issue on my tab. Using the native task manager to free memory/RAM apparently kills some process essential to the MusicHub. After a fresh restart of the tab, the MusicHub works fine. Testing again after having freed memory causes it not to work. Restart of the tab - voila it works again. Just in case someone of you runs into the same issue

Couple of questions about troubleshooting a problem/RMA

Hey ladies and gents, I have a strange issue with my N5. I am losing data connection despite having a 4-bar LTE signal. Most of the time, I will catch it at work while streaming music from Spotify/Pandora. Once in awhile i'd catch it while browsing Facebook as well. It will show a 4-bar LTE connection, but the apps will report "no data connection available." I've tried surfing Chrome when this problem arises and it says "You are Offline." I found a temporary fix - turning Airplane mode on/off or restarting the phone.
Has anyone ever heard of this, and does anyone have any suggestions. I was running SlimKat before, but now i'm on stock 4.4.4 with ElementalX kernel, with the issue crossing multiple ROMs/wipes.
I also just got off of chat with Google support. The lady is emailing me some troubleshooting steps, and wants me to contact T-Mobile as well. If the problem is still there, she wants me to RMA. What are the steps needed in order to do so. Some quick searches brought up factory images but I haven't found anything recent, and want to make sure I have all my bases covered.
Thanks guys!
Google doesn't care whether the bootloader is unlocked or whether the phone is rooted. If it's a hardware issue, you are covered!
If you want to return to stock before sending it in for peace of mind then follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
Sorry for the late reply, been pretty busy the last couple of days. Glad to hear that Google doesn't care about the unlocked bootloader! I'll probably just return completely to stock and return it like that IF I have to.
However, I think I may have fixed the problem. I altered my APN settings and changed IPv6 to IPv4 and it seems to have fixed my problem, at least for now (the problem is random so i'll have to use it for awhile to make sure it really is fixed). Anyone else ever heard of this problem, or this fix, especially on T-Mobile?

[Q] Nexus 5 Wi-Fi issue: hardware or software ?

Hi, guys
I know it is a recurring subject, but every thread I've found says to reset or do some trick with the OS to get it solved...
My Nexus 5's Wi-Fi hardware seems to be off (or non-existent). I took some screenshots, which I include here.
1. The "Settings" screenshot shows the "gray-shaded" Wi-FI button;
2. The "Status" screenshot shows that there is no Wi-Fi MAC address available;
3. The "INFO" screenshot was taken from dialing << *#*#4636#*#* >> (wifi status testing) and shows that Wi-Fi is not recognized
The thing here is that this is my second Nexus 5. The first one had the same error and Google replaced me with this one. First time, it took less than 1 month to the error to show up. This time, it took more than 1 month.
If you guys could at least identify this as a hardware or software issue, I would appreciate very much.
Thanks!
It happened to me too, please help.

There is good info in that thread.
1) Delete /data/misc/wifi and /data/misc/dhcp and reboot.
2) Try a different ROM/kernel, is a kernel issue a lot of times.
Hardware problem
I've just spoke to Google's support team and they told me it is a hardware problem. It seems I am terrible unlucky to get this problem twice with different devices (same model). Well, I'm giving it a shot and asking for my third replacement. Supposedly, it is the fair way to go. I strongly advice if you got the same problem to ask Google for a replacement.
Thanks to all that tried to help.
Google does not claim that this is a hardware problem, but they immediately offered to replace the product.
I do not believe this is a hardware problem because the product worked great, and only after a few updates 4.4.1, 4.4.2, 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 is screwed.

WiFi stopped working - H950 (5.1.1 PR VARIANT)

Hello everyone.
I'm having trouble with my h950 (installed the PR 5.1.1 rom long time ago) device.
A week ago WiFi stopped working. This is:
When I choose a network I want to connect to, it starts connecting but instantly the wifi turns off and then it turns on and it turns off and so on...
I already tried doing a hard reset and also installing the KDZ for the 5.1.1 PR version again but it remains the same.
Has anyone gone through this issue or anyone who can give me any advice?
Thanks
more info?
Hi there,
what is the *exact* behaviour your WiFi exhibits? Does it keep flashing like in this video?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W8YJMDFM88
If so, you might be experiencing a hardware issue. I've written a detailed summary about this, you may want to check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/qa-wifi-stuck-mac-020000000000-g2-g3-g4-t3452133
Good luck, and keep us posted if you find a solution for your problem!
NimbleWeasel, thanks for your reply.
I got a friend to upload a video. on youtube Not the best quality. Ignore the sounds
I can't post a video since I'm a new user. The youtube id for the video is R1pKIzJ5mwg
I think it IS the same problem.
If it actually is a hardware issue, I guess I'll just have to get a new phone.
WiFi trouble...
hi disreggae,
i watched your video but it seems to be a different problem.
i'll write you a private message with something that you can try if you want.
my wifi is not working
It says its on but nothing is showing up and I can't connect to anything and my wifi will not turn off and I tried to reset everything and still is not working

[Bug] Blank Toast above home button (Solved : I think VoLTE sim related)

(Solution)Update : I did little bit more (well, honestly a lot more digging ) It turns out this wasn't Xposed or Rom or anything related to specific setup related after all !
Many users had same problem ( Random Grey bubble above home button / Black Toast) in past in 5.1 & 6.0 as well & even on Nexus 6
I THINK as described by user on Androidcentral it's related to specific SimCard & my guess is, it happens on VoLTE simcards (Specific Reliance Jio in my case ) because i have other 4G sim (Vodafone) without VoLTE and i'm not getting any "Blank Toast" after inserting it
here are some of links i found while digging and IMO 1st one is somewhat correct about occurrence of issue. ( i'm with him bcz i having same experience till now)
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/600223-empty-toast-message-wind-mobile.html

https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus6/comments/3neppi/i_have_constant_toast_notifications_on_my_screen/
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=196384
as you see in last link someone reported it to google but they didn't take it seriously with not much data.
even though i believe i have enough data, i'm not gonna report it again because i don't have patience to deal with official channel :silly:, that's why i'm writing this long post with almost everything i got, to help someone looking answer related this in future & for any philanthropic who wants to report & deal with it
may be it's due to lack of VoLTE related hardware in N5.
(all above points are just my speculation through data i got, i'm not certain about root cause, but i hope to never see that bug on other Sim Cards :fingers-crossed: )
Problem
As you can see from attached SS , i'm getting this annoying grey bubble randomly (any app/game , any time ! nothing is specific about it's occurrence that i can find ) i got that bubble at-least 5 times while writing this post as well !!
So is it just me or someone other also have same problem ? If someone had similar problem in past and have any solution plz tell )
My setup :
M4B30X Stock (dirty flash over September) + Systemless SuperSu 2.78 + Xposed v86 (official) + gravity Box
(If i'm the only one having this problem, then i'll Clean flash system but if someone ever had similar problem kindly share solution bcz if possible i want to avoid the clean flash )
Seems like an empty toast message.
Running M4B30X since yesterday, and there's no grey bubble on my end.
Sideload OTA now. No issues

yah i re-flashed it without Xposed and it's working fine now so i guess it was the issue. anyway thanks for confirming
btw today i'm going to flash Pure Nexus bcz i can't live with this un-customizable stock for long and xposed & cataclasm mod giving new & new errors so that's it for me with security updates i'll live happily with older august Pure Nexus as long as i can resist update LOL
download from PC. it'll most likely complete.
OP updated with possible solution
Based on your findings, could you try Deleting sim toolkit APK to test if it goes away?, im assuming its interpreting some kind of mesage as ADs from your carrier, however it fails and throws an empty toast
