How to set up the wired USB LAN adaptor? - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

Now I want to use a wired USB LAN adaptor on my S4 to access the wired network. However, after I insert the USB LAN adaptor, it powers up but cannot connect to the LAN. There is no connection. How should I set up? Thanks.

love to help.
I would love to help.. but I need a little more information first... like what android version ie. 4.4.2. (Found in Settings.apk under 'about phone'.)
Second which type of Computer are you trying to utilize? Like Windows 7 Home Premium or Mac OSX leopard/snow leopard. Or even Linux like redhat or Gnome.. this will allow me to rule out software/hardware issues and focus on the exact circumstances your in.. thx bud.

He's trying to connect his phone to the network with a USB ethernet adapter.... I think you completely missed the point of the post.

Well if so thanks for the info.. I was simply trying to narrow down the source. In which way did it seem as though I missed the point? The point was he/she had trouble with their phone connecting to a network.. right? Well in my experience.. most home networks are routed through a PC.. so my obvious conclusion was the other end like not the phone... idk I'm kinda new here and am doing my best.. lol anyway thx.

Wifi Tether to Ubuntu 9.10

Hey everyone, just finished installing Ubuntu to my dell mini 10v netbook. I really like it so far but I have hit a problem that may be a potential deal breaker. Has anyone running Ubuntu 9.10 been able to tether their phone to their computer?. It does not seem to connect to my phone running this app for me. It sees the SSID, and i tell it to connect, and then I just get that circle thing for a couple of minutes then it gives up and connects to my main router if its in range.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure if its Ubuntu or the app, it worked perfect with XP
I don't run Ubuntu on my netbook so it may be slightly different, but I have it working great on mine running Arch Linux. Wifi tether uses an Ad-Hoc mode where most routers/access points use Infrastructure mode. You may have to tell network-manager or whatever controls your wireless settings to use Ad-Hoc. If that doesn't work you could set it up manually through the command line or make a little script with those commands to do it so you don't have to type them in every time.
thanks for the reply. I did some searching and came across this page http://www.ubuntugeek.com/creating-an-adhoc-host-with-ubuntu.html and i hooked my phone up to my windows computer, copied the info verbatim to my ubuntu netbook setting up a manual connection like that page suggested and it says it connects, but my phone doesnt show anything is connected and it wont go online
I am able to tether just fine via my Dell mini9 running Ubuntu 9.10. Are you able to connect to other networks?
yeah i can connect to my home fios router just fine
FoxRacR17 i was having the same issues with my dell 1501 laptop.. Looks like your laptop might be using the bcm43xx chip-set from broadcom which doesn't support ad-hoc fully native yet on all cards.

I was having issues trouble shooting WMWifiRouter and Ubuntu.
I couldn't pin down if it was Ubuntu or WMWifiRouter which was having the problem connecting.. I could see the Ad-Hoc network in Ubuntu when i would try to connect it would just hang. I played with all the settings in WMWifiRouter to no avail.
Turns out it was my wireless driver.

I had to revert back to Ndiswrapper.. But it worked!!! Those having Linux issues check the driver.. I didn't have a windows box with wireless to check.. So took me longer hopefully this might save you some time!

Try Ndiswrapper from the windows drivers on HP's site. Let us know the results..

Thanks for the replies guys, i got it fixed. I saw people saying to try the netbook remix version of ubuntu so I went ahead and installed it. At first it wasnt detecting any hardware drivers so it wasnt even giving me the option to install drivers for my wireless this time. But i went into terminal (with my ethernet cord plugged in and netbook connected to the internet) and issued "sudo apt-get update" and it went thru and downloaded a bunch of stuff that took a while, and then i went back to restricted drivers and this time I had TWO options for my wireless card, one that was licensed propitiatory from broadcom themselves labeled "Broadcom STA wirless driver" and one that was licensed as free and labeled "Broadcom B43 wireless driver" I installed the STA one and now my netbook connects perfectly to my hero and i can go online again thru my phone. Hope this helps you guys out

Bluetooth File Transfer

I'm fed up with the clunky way which bluetooth transfers files between my MS laptop and my HTC Touch Pro (and any other device it would seem).
I'm fed up with three or four attempts to get it to work in the first place, I'm fed up with having to approve every single data connection - I have after all paired the devices, please just transfer the files.
Does anyone know of a decent bit of software, either winmo or Windoze that will allow me to browse the other device, grab or send the files I want and just do it without all the fuss I seem to be getting?
Thanks in advance.

I had it, but couldn't get it to work on an ad-hoc (peer to peer) connection, then it stopped working altogether.
Maybe I should try again...thanks.
maybe you should just get a usb card reader. or an adapter if your laptop has a card reader already.
I have a USB card reader, and leads to connect the phone to the computer, but this is the 21st century folks, and I have two devices that can connect without wires, but it's about as easy, and friendly as, well, something that isn't easy or friendly.
The phone should see the computer, and vice versa, and file transfer should be as easy as if they were the same device.

Will this work?

Will this allow the HD2 to make wi-fi n phone calls? To some this may be a goofy question but if this item is windows as the HD2 is & I connected them both with an adapter would this allow the HD2 to make wireless wi-fi n phone calls? It seems a simple idea but my knowledge is short at my age.
If it doesn't why not? I haven't left windows yet & I'm so close to getting another phone & I just want to make sure what TMO phone to get. TIA.
No, the adapter is for windows operating system not windows mobile.
Thanks but if I did connect the two what would happen? Nothing?
Just trying to find a way to make the Leo wi-fi call. Thx.

This item is just to connect a laptop or PC to an existing wifi network. The only way it could be used in a connection between an HD2 and a computer is if you have the HD2 setup as a wifi router and you connected the pc to that....which is pretty much the exact opposite of how you would need the connectivity setup. But, it's still all kind of moot...that adapter won't do anything to enable voip calling on the HD2
Thank you sirphunkee, to do a proper reserch I just ordered an HD2 for .01 at Amazon a few minutes ago. I figure if I have the phone it would be much easier to find a way to solve this problem. Besides for .01 what am I going to lose.
Agreed your answer being moot is correct I do agree. Thanks.

Use phone as wireless adapter?(NOT WIRELESS TETHERING)

I want to know if there is a way to use an android device as a wireless adapter? Not wireless tethering of your data connection but the ability to use the wifi connection on your pc.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
Turn your data off and turn on your WiFi, connect to the desired network and try to tether via usb to your phone. This should hopefully bridge your connection if you have an aosp ROM. I'm not sure about sense, as I've never tried it on a sense ROM before.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
So you mean download the wirless tether app and use it while data is off? And you can do it via usb?/ I've never used data tethering so idk im a noob
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
He meant to say, connect to wifi and in settings there will be an option to tether via usb
Although i am also not sure about sense roms
Or you can use a market app
There are many, Easy Tether will do the job
Connect to the wifi network and then use usb tethering
okay well I have a droid 3 so there aren't any roms out for it and when I try a wifi tether app from the market it disables your wifi

Okay, so basically what you're going to be doing is using your phone as a USB WiFi dongle. To do this, follow these instructions VERY carefully.
1) Assuming that you are already rooted (via z4root, Gingerbreak, or some other means), search for "EasyTether Lite" on the Android Market and download it.
2) Go into Settings>Wireless & Networks
3) Uncheck the box that says "Mobile Network", "3G", "Mobile Data" or something along those lines.
4) Check the box that says "WiFi" and connect to the desired network.
5) Now, download and install the drivers you need for EasyTether to work with your computer here (note that you are going to do this from your computer and not your phone): http://www.mobile-stream.com/easytether/drivers.html
6) Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable and open the EasyTether app. Enable tethering and with a little bit of magic and fairy dust, you should now have a connection on your computer.
Good luck mate.
Need for same
Need an expert here!
what we look for is using android phone to connect other devices not only to internet but also to each other .
We could do it with our modem, but with tethering is like a hotspot , every device can connect internet but cannot see other devices.
Everywhere i looked was explainin "how to tether" which is built in android 2.2 already.
Helps will be highly appreciated
Is it too simple?
I had trouble getting USB tethering on my macbook, not my PC, but:
I searched the market for USB tethering.
and with "Easy Tether lite" (the first app in the search results; there are other options, I tried this one first and it worked great).
I installed on my phone, ran it, followed the wizard, had to install USB tethering drivers for OS X at some point.
Now:
Phone getting WiFi from my router and entering my computer via usb.
I even set it up now to send this very post!!
cheers,
-nerB
EDIT: (Hmm, your syntax is kind of shaky, original poster... You don't mean use the computer as a wireless adapter for your phone do you?? that would be internet pass-through, yes? I think you do mean USB tethering but using a WiFi source, not the mobile connection. Is this as simple as hooking up a usb data tether but using the WiFi instead of 3G from your phone, such as to use a dingy laptop without wireless to get the WiFi in a Starbucks/etc/etc? Hmm.
Otherwise, your phone is not a WiFi wireless adapter, it has one that your phone OS connects to, which then "usb tethers" to computer...
I've never even seen a usb cable that connects a mobile phone to a mobile phone. Haha. I suppose if you had one, you should be able to USB tether from one phone and Internet Pass-Through on the other.....:/ )
Check out this thing called Bluetooth for that. It works wonders.

solution without additional software while having cyanogenmod
This works with cyanogenmod10 out of the box. Probably also possible with cm7/cm9 too.
Connect phone via cable to pc, connect phone to wifi, enable "USB-Tethering" (Settings -> Tethering/Hotspot), let OS detect the new device, done.
I know this thread has no activity since over a year, but if anybody finds this page like me while searching for this topic, I could be helpful for him knowing a method without using additional software while having cyanogenmod.

yet another reason to consider CM flash
Just some questions...
OK GUYS. thnx for the usefull info.
Now i wanna say that suppose we have this wifi dongle for connecting to computer..(see photo attached) we use this for connecting WIFI to our PC's. RIGHT???
NOW i wanna ask if it is possible that we can use our phone instead of this ""DONGLE"" as wifi signal catcher. NEITHER USB NOR WIFI TETHERING(like easy tether lite or many other options available on XDA.) [people are actually asking for "THIS OPTION" so we don't have to spend another 20-30 bucks but they ends up with USB or WIFI tether)
we connect our phone to PC and Search for WIFI Signals on PC... NOT on the phone itself.
please guys, if any one know how to do this then please share. OR please tell if it is possible or not..
thnx...

sorry for bringin up a old thread
but man ure a life saver my dongle died on one of my pcs and i used the same method for my LG G4 works like a charm
thank you a million times man
I actually just tried the above program and it works. It has serious limitations if your not getting the paid version. Blocks a bunch of webs sites and all secure ones. It does work though. I really wish Verizon would not have found it necessary to remove wifi sharing over USB for some dam reason. The S7 I have, had it factory and they removed it. Not sure why? Seeing how it does not have a fuking thing to do with the mobile network. I can actual tether my computer by USB using mobile network and can't from my wifi. Can already bypass they're tethering fee.
I will continue reading and searching till I find a way to undo or work around big reds unnecessary removal of this feature. Even if it involves crawling a 1000 miles on my hands and knees, on broken glass to find some big wig and beating the reversal out of him with the very S7 I'm typing this on.

What exactly are you trying to do?
Are you trying to tether your computer through your phone (i.e. connect the computer to the phone via USB cable, and then use the phone's WiFi / 3G connection on your computer)?
Or just use the phone as a wifi finder (which seems odd because if your computer has WiFi then it should be able to see the access points on its own..)?
I'll assume you're going for the first one because the second one doesn't make any sense. You should search the forum for "USB tether" .. although since you're asking for iPhone or android, it seems like you don't have a device yet...

I have no WiFi adapter. I want to use an android/iPod as a wifi adapter so I can see possible connections listed on the PC (providided by the ipod or android device)..
I build a WiFi antenna that i want to put the device in, i hook the phone/ipod to the computer, then on the computer i find the best wifi point to connect to and connect to it.
I dont want to see the listings for the access points on the device, i want to see and connect to the listings on my computer.
Shameless bump.
I basically want my old android phone or old iPod touch to act as a wifi adapter. That's it.
You mean a hotspot?
