That's called light bleed. Not much you can do aside from replacing it from google or changing the screen. I have it on the top right of my screen.
There's a big thread about his. I'll link if I find it.

Thank you,as my Nexus 5 is still under garanty,i will try to go and see what i can do,thank you very much for quick answer,as soon as i am going to be free i will go in the Town were i bought the Nexus 5,is my waranty covering this?

Yes. Warranty covers heavy light bleed issues as well.

I have it. It's really not bad and is kinda normal. Please don't warranty over something as small as this. Drives up the cost for us. I didn't.

That's crazy. If you purchase something and its not working up to its full potential and its under warranty it would be crazy to not have it fixed. This phone wasn't expensive by typical standards but for me cost a small fortune. Light bleed is annoying as anything. Why should OP live with this defect? I wouldn't.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boy that is so wrong, google makes a bunch of devices, sell part of them, and let some to replace, if they dont have spare devices, they will not make the device cost more, they will rather make more devices or will refund the Money.
just look at nexus 4 launch, launched, went out of stock for some time, but yet, people with problems(the most were battery/screen) could still get new devices

no, they go, wow lot of really pedantic users here who return over the smallest things, we charge more to cover cost of returns
letting the device get too hot is what causes this. glue holding the backlight to the lcd panel warms and weakens.

im sorry, but for the price of the nexus, that fee can only be at max what? $10 or less so idc.
and the lcd panel warms, its a desing fault, this is a plus that Samsung gets, their termal design is really good

The issue is that almost every IPS LCD has some degree of backlight bleed. If it's bad enough that it's visible in a well-lit room, then I'd ask for them to replace it under warranty. If you need to look hard for it and it's only if you turn the brightness up in a dark room, then I'd say it's "normal."

at the price of the nexus? It's $400, not $600 like it should be.
$10? LMAO. The phone doesn't get repaired. The entire BOM cost is sunk. That's like $250.

yeah. I've never seen any that's visible in well lit room-- it's always "at night when the screen is completely black it looks only slightly less black in this corner when the screen is at full brightness"-- you shouldn't be at full brightness at night anyways

you misunderstood me, the nexus is sold for 349 bucks (16gb), that price is so low, that the fee that they have for rma must be low too

Thanks to all of your answer guys, but here in macedonia Nexus 5 costs http://www.vip.mk/telefoni/gsm-advisor/lg/1294914/nexus-5#ad-image-0
more than 400 euros now, when i bought it it was 500 euros,so i will use my waranty and i don't want too much light bleed on it
It is ok to get new one because 500 euros are not small money here in my country, thank you for everything guys
i will write you here when i go and ask in the store

Nexus 5 screen (dirt or pixels, not sure)

Hi all,
I got my new Nexus 5. Hooray.
However, there are 7 or 8 random black points around the screen that are clearly visible on a light coloured or white screen.
I've taken a screenshot and it doesn't show up on the screenshot so not sure if its dead pixels, or more likely dirt between the glass and the panel. I think the spots are too big to be dead pixels. They are not all uniform size either. some are more obvious than others.
Has anyone experienced anything like this. No threads on dead pixels or dirt, so hopfully its a totally isolated event?
I've attached 3 screenshots of a few of the marks. Apologies. They look much more obvious in real life. I took these images with my Galaxy Nexus, so they were kind of anti-aliased too, but you can still make out the black marks hopefully.
I'm not one of the UBER-OCD types that takes my phone to the lab to examine it under an electron microscope. these blemishes are clearly obvious to the naked eye when browsing etc.
Any ideas? Return?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm thinking that they are dead pixels, but I've never had one on my device before so I'm not sure.

Those look like dead pixels to me. I had a spot like that on mine. I knew it was a dead pixel and not dust or anything like that because I took a bright light to the screen while it was off and inspected it: nothing.
You have a LOT of them, I'd RMA it.
Did a full reset. Same blemishes in the same spot. Ah well. no big deal.
I rang Google support UK. And the agent I spoke to knew immediately what the issue was as soon as I started describing it.
He said "yes, to be honest, we have had a great number of calls about similar pixel issues, it's not unusual to happen like this in large scale production of a device like this. We'll resolve the issue for you today. No problems."
He sent me an email and asked me to send back a screenshot of phone screen. (I presume he meant a photo though because the screenshot image looks fine. No dead pixels. The screenshot takes its info from the video processor though, so you'd never see them I think). anyway, I sent on the screenshot and couple of photos. Hopefully they'll ship a replacement.
I wouldn't really mind if it was one. An isolated issue. But I have 8 blemishes that are visible on browsing. Will return it and see.

You'll spend 420 euros and accept defects? You shouldn't have to put up with them because their quality control is rubbish regardless of price. I'd RMA it personally.

Are you sure the dirt isn't on the surface of the screen? Try cleaning with a microfibre cloth and some rubbing alcohol.
Whoops you replied same time as me I rma'd mine with one dead pixel and a stuck pixel next to it. Didn't require any photos to be sent but then I specifically requested a replacement as It was annoying me.
Hopefully they'll sort it for you, if not I'd push them further.

Thanks for the replies. Yep, I rubbed all spots with microfibre cloth. 100% its below the glass. Even tried a finger nail on it. (I was sure my fingernail wouldn't hurt the Gorilla3 glass )
replacement due to ship on 12th November. cool.
spots everywhere
can you imagine me, I got more than 7 spots on the screen this is extreamly dissapointing, contacting google at the moment.

Got the nexus. And one dead pixel.

First one. White 32gb. And I have one dead pixel.everything else is great. Its not too noticeable and I'm sure there are people out there with worse that do not know.
My question is would you send it back over one if everything else is good and you're happy? To possibly get a worse device?
And if I kept it. My one year warranty can't I send it back and rma on the 11th month if I really wanted?

Hell yea I would send a new device back over a dead pixel, you shouldn't have dead pixel.
Contact google about RMA asap, don't compromise about the level of quality of your device.
With the amount of pixels in these phones its very likely you will get at least one dead pixel. If it really bothers you that much then go ahead and RMA it. Most likely though you will get another device with 1 or more dead or stuck pixels.

This is something you could do of course. I would keep it if it werent near the middle of the screen myself but I would also factor in things such as CPU binning, as well as any other defects like the vibration motor. Don't know how common that is since I haven't visited that thread for a while but if I had a near perfect device with a high CPU binning and the pixel wasn't very noticeable I would accept it. If i had a cruddy CPU binning in i would certainly send it in hoping for a perfect screen and high binning. Its a surprise Google RMAs devices with 1 dead pixel. Most displays have a certain threshold that must be reached and its usually higher than 3.

Same here. I had one dead pixel...so of course did a RMA. I was like you and contemplated dealing with it, but then I realized I didn't get a discount for the dead pixel So the phone should be perfect.
My RMA replacement shipped today.
All depends on what you're willing to live with. There are 2,073,559 other pixels that are working, so, me, I would live with it. Beats going without the Nexus 5 for an unknown period of time.

Why? If you can get a free replacement with minimal effort on your part, why not?
I have 3 that I can see that are brighter. Look like stuck BUT even though I know where they are, I just can't see them at normal brightness levels. The density is tight enough that dust looks bigger. I am not bothering with RMAs. I guess I am not that picky.

I don't quite get how spending $400+ and expecting something to be exactly what you paid for is classified as "picky". Maybe you were raised with a silver spoon or something, but this isn't a $10 eBay purchase.
I wasn't "bothered" at all with a simple phone call to Google for my free replacement.

Broken Screen & Digitizer?

Hi guys, perhaps you might have noticed the screen on my old N5 is slightly worse for wear.
I've decided to either fix it myself or get a pro to do it (I have never had to take a phone apart or replace any hardware)
Judging by the pictures do you think I will need to replace all, LCD, digitizer and frame? Would you recommend DIY or sending it into a shop?
I would send it back to LG however I have media on it I would like to keep but have a lockscreen (which I can't interact with) so am unable to recover files.
Thanks for any help! :fingers-crossed:
the hell u did to it? did u grab a hammer and started swinging at it
Your going to need to do all 3 done..unless you dont mind the scratched frame.
I would get it done in a shop unless you have done it your self.
I have done a few glass and digitizer fixes but i tell ya aint worth the time unless you only broke it in one day and want to fix it.

I've seen those pictures months ago floating around the Web. I smell troll.
from my experience i think LCD + Digitizer + side panels come as a single piece... my lcd had a violet shade near the app drawer icon( only visible in full brightness) as i had warranty i changed free of cost... the person in the shop told with out warranty it would cost about 9500 INR(about 160$) he changedlcd + digitizer + side panels of my N5

LG do it for £155 ($265!!??) and will wipe the phone which is no good for me!
I have found a 3rd party phone shop in Edinburgh which will replace the screen with 90 days warranty for £120 and no wipe.

[Q] Nexus 5 to OnePlus One

planning to replace my N5 with an OPO, worth it or not?
Is it worth it to you?
Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk
Make your own decision
I did the same thing, now my wife has OPO and I'm back to Nexus 5.
I'm rather picky about display, and OPO has this yellow gradient discoloration at the bottom of the display. That is caused by the hardware design, so it is mabe by manufacturer (JDI) intentionaly (forget about that it will go away after some time or that it is caused by the glue or that UV will make it disappear).
JDI display manufacturer made LCD backlight diffuser semi-opaque at thar area to minimise light leakage but side effect is that yellow diacoloration (piss effect).
It bothers me, but my wife cant even notice it, so if you don't mind this go for it.
And OPO camera has rather slow shutter speed (if you capture moving object you will have ghosting wich you can't avoid (never PERIOD))...
Take this in consideration and make the choice...
For any further info (both devices in the reach of my hands) I'm available...cheers...

Light Bleed on Front Camera on Galaxy S8

Hey Guys I just got a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8 Orchid Grey.
It has only been a day and I love the phone but I was so disappointed to see that the phone suffers from light leak.
There is light bleeding from the bezel between the front camera as shown in this picture.
Is this normal and accepted? I saw some phones at a demo shop and the black ones didnt have this while the others did.
Do you guys have the same and if so does it affect water resistance?
Shall I keep it or exchange it and get a new one I got to pay 200$ for it.
Have attached pictures of my phone along with a reference picture of better quality.
please do let me know what you think
i had ordered my phone off amazon and noticed the light bleed. searched around and it didn't really find a clear answer to say if its a defect or just something that the phone has. i sent it back to amazon, thinking it was bad, and picked one up from best buy, they were the same price, so no big deal. opened up the new one and was met with disappointment, it looks like its a typical thing for the phones. guess its up to you if you want to just go with it or try again with another one. i did take the one from amazon to a shop to see whats up, they suggested to just return it. if they were to try and fix the gap, the water proofing would have failed. best of luck with it, seems like a good phone so far

Hey thanks for the reply.
So the one you got from best buy does it have the same problem?
Does light reflect and if so where?
This is what samsung chat told me
yes, the best buy model has the same problem in the same area. the light shows at the front facing camera and the iris scanner. i talked to a rep myself and he had suggested that i take it to a repair center.
*the person you talked to could be right, maybe it is just the lens or something.
Go for replacement. Practice the warranty thingy.

Do you know anyone else who has a S8 or Note 8 and suffers from the same?
Also where does the light bleed occur on your phone exactly?

No, I don't know anyone with the same phone. The light comes directly above the front facing camera and the Iris scanner.
I do not have this issue here, so I would say its a manufacturing defect, and they are aware about it, and they actually try to make it look like its normal.

You must having it increase your brightness to max and keep a white background/wallpaper and then check.
I just went to a Samsung Service Center and first he told me that it was normal and not an issue then i insisted on showing me another phone so he showed me a device whose repairs he had just concluded with a brand new screen and that phone had the same issue! not an issue its just reflection apparently.
Check yours again in a dark environment and let me know

No, I don't know anyone with the same phone. The light comes directly above the front facing camera and the Iris scanner.

Apparently from the most of the phones I have seen all have this issue to some extent.
I dont know what to do if I should sell it off and or pay more and get a new one or keep it.
When you put a cover on you cant see anything but still once you see you cant unsee it

I do not have this issue here, so I would say its a manufacturing defect, and they are aware about it, and they actually try to make it look like its normal.

So to see it you ONLY have to increase brightness to max in the dark with a fully white wallpaper? Yeah I'll be so upset if I have this..... ?

I checked another store and all their phones have the same. I havent seen one yet which doesnt have it.
Also does the notification LED bleed through the bezel when it is turned on?

Not that I've noticed ever. I'm not going to strain to find it though
No worries it's something normal

Does your phone bleed too through the bezel above the front camera and iris scanner?
My notification LED also bleeds through the bezel, is that normal?

Could you please check if there is light leaking above the iris scanner and front camera and above the notification LED when turned on and let me know. I would really appreciate it
