m8 - Verizon HTC One (M8)

im currently thinking about getting the htc m8 or waiting for the lgG3. Seen a couple reviews about the g3 having a really dim screen and that would be a deal breaker. So my question to you guys is how much does everyone like there m8? i had the m7 and it was a great phone, loved blinkfeed.

A-m-a-z-i-n-g device. That's all I have to say.
Review after review call it "the best Android phone on the market" for a reason - until the next "best" thing comes along!

I was right where you are right now and I put a ton of time reading and watching reviews, doing my own pros and cons of each, and I am very happy with the M8. Literally the only draw back I have with this device is the camera. That being said, it still takes great shots as long as you don't plan on making them your HD wallpaper on your 23" monitor. I went back through all of my previous photos on old devices like the Moto X and the LG G2 and noticed that most all of my shots didn't require cropping at all or were close-ups. And personally, the extra camera features on the M8 actually enhance these types of photos that I take. So for me, it's all around great.
I was torn for 3 reasons. One was the camera which I just covered. The other was battery life, but the M8 just sips juice. Doesn't use hardly anything while not in use. And the final reason was the screen. I'm a sucker for a good screen, so naturally the G3 was calling my name; however, the 441 pixels per inch on the M8 is absolutely gorgeous. If you glue your eyeball to the screen, you may be able to convince yourself that you see pixels, but coming from a huge screen critic, you won't be displeased in the slightest.
Finally, the build quality and just overall good looks of the phone is something that people, even iPhone users, envy. Plus the sense ui on the Android OS has been greatly improved to the point where it's faster than stock android and I personally haven't experienced any lag. And let's not forgot the dual front-facing speakers which are wonderful for watching any videos or listening to music. So unless you want a ginormous screen or are a professional photographer taking photos on a smartphone for some reason, I would push you to get the M8.

so after visiting the LG G3 forums and reading some things i went and ordered the htc m8 in hot rod red, it will be here wednesday. I just dont think LG paired the right processor with the display, think they should have waited for the 805. If the battery life is as good as everyone says i should be extremely happy with the HTC m8. How is the standby battery life?

Fantominal. Yes. I made a new word. Fantastic and phenomenal. In all seriousness though, overnight uncharged I averaged about -2 to 3% on stock. I let me device charge overnight now so I no longer have that stat but the battery life on this phone is overall phantabulous.

Device can be s'off, rooted with custom recovery which is what drove my choice along with features and design. Custom roms have exploded for this device with stock, gpe and some cm options. I have tried most roms and am very pleased with this device... had the m7, s4 honestly my only issue with the phone is that it satisfies my need to want a newer phone lol.

Seems like the M8 development has really taken off compared to the Samsung devices. I love the design of this phone. Haven't been able to really judge battery life today, been where there isn't good service all day.

It's probably like that cause the m8 is newer then the galaxy devices.. No excuses but it seems like that.. I still have a locked bootloader been a while

Was all in for One X, ended up with the S..

just wanted to share my experience i had today.
got a call from my local dealership that the One X had arrived, as i had shown huge interest in it.. as my previous phone got molested by my car..
went to take a look on the sexy thing. and the screen blew me away, but got a little disappointed when actually holding the phone, didn't get a "premium" feel that a 800$ phone should have. sure, it has a very practical poly carbonate shell casing etc..
but i had made up my mind anyway and was going to close the deal and walk away with the X, then the salesman opened up a drawer and put the One S in my hands.. it was not put up on display as they just arrived that hour.
well, what can i say?.. it really appealed to me, the thickness, the weight, the sturdiness, the cold matte surface.. it just felt so good that i bought it without even seeing it being turned on.. silly? i guess.. but we hit it off from the first second..
was worried about the screen as i just had a Razr, and was not so fond of the pentile screen, but this is something different.. better calibrated? who knows, it looks very nice..
i think last time i had this feeling for a phone out of the box was my first android, a htc hero.. and it have been about 8-10 android phones (even a ipone, brrrr.. that lasted 3 days i think) in between that.
hoping the community and developers will remember this phone also, when the smoke from the One X has settled.
well thats my two cents for today, good night from Norway...
What country has introuced HTC one X
or if USA which network has got it and how to get it
Nice. What would you say is better about the screen vs the Razr? Like is it less pixelated, the colors more accurate etc?

i would say that the colors are more accurate, and yes, not so pixelated as i noticed on the Razr. also not any "spots" when the screen is dark.

Awesome, thanks. Yeah it was my suspicion that Motorola did a poor job implementing the screen on their devices. I'm sure the screen will exhibit some of the shortcomings of the technology, but what I saw on the Moto phones was quite alarming.
You just made the wait for me even harder... I hope I get that same experience with the One S

Interesting...
I had just about made my mind up to go for a One S. I walked into an O2 shop in Germany today and they had a live One X display model, as well as dummy versions of both the One X and S. It was actually the One X that appealed more when I compared [the dummy versions] side-by-side due to the larger display size.
I guess I will have to wait until I can find a genuine One S on display to make my mind up...
Same happened to us my wife was all excited about the One X until she held it so she opted for the One S more user friendly

Recieved my One X on monday, and I'm already looking at this phone.
I guess I'll have to give it some time, but it feels too big and the battery really sucks.
Do you know anything about how the camera, battery and sound quality (from 3.5mm) is on the One S compared to the X?
Camera is the same, battery life will be better because of less cores and smaller screen, and sound quality I can't imagine is any different

Which firmware version do you have?
If you got the 1.26, then you should wait for the 1.27 ...
Battery life on the One X should be a lot better with this new version
Nevertheless, battery life on the One S will always be better (except for standby) due to the 28nm architecture and the lower resolution screen.

Engadget says that there is a difference in camera performance, altough hardware is exactly the same.
It seems that the One X performs a bit better as the software is more optimized.

Quintusdias; the wait is worth it..
Rousseauxy: couldnt tell, cause we had a cloudy day today. but as far as daylight it is no problem at all.. very bright and high contrast as Amoled is known for.
Ascot17; cant argue with you there, the One X screen is better.. but the feel of the phones compared next to each other left me no doubt.. the one X feels cheap compared to the S. and also the 4.3" screen is easier to handle grip-wise.. but specs on the X are awesome. but then again, the dual core Kraits are hardcore..
with the 28nm Krait cores battery life should be much better than the X. only had one charge on the phone so hard to say. but lasted to the day without any problem. been alot of fiddling to say the least!
Unclespoon; the camera is awesome. this is the best i have ever seen on a phone. even my wife's panasonic Lumix camera is struggling to keep up to this. HTC have been amazing at the camera front. if the camera is better on the X, i cant say since i didn't get to try it much. but i cant believe it is better since both phones runs the same hardware on the cameras..
Can't Wait
I just bought the One S today and it's charging right now so I've not used it yet. I read the reviews of the X and the S but went for the S due to the better battery life and the speed. The X may have more cores and a bigger screen but the S is meant to be faster and the screen is big enough for me
Just received mine, it's the most ****ing sexy phone I have ever seen. It's incredible. If I was hesitating between the One S, One X and the Galaxy Nexus, I don't regret for a second my choice.

Sweet, thx
I can completely share this experience. Went to look for both devices, honestly more eager for the X.. but having both of them directly in front of me I lost interest in the X completely and only focused on the S.. the difference in quality/haptic is huge.. sure, the display of the X is a blast.. but to cite my girlfriend who was standing right next to me in this situation (translated):
"are you totally nuts?! i know you for sure and i love you.. even for wanting to stay a little boy.. but that's not a mobile at all(One X)!! go and buy a freaking ipad or i don't know in addition but this is ridiculous...and it looks cheap compared to this stylish thing (One S)"
What should I say: she's absolutely right.

Have been into a phone shop today and had a play with both phones. Am going for the One S as well. It feels more comfortable in the hand. The One X looks really good but feels like a stretch for my thumb.
Just out of curiosity, talking small hands. Would any of you who have owned the device happen to have as small hands as I? I have gloves size 10 and 9(thight fit) and wonder if the S will be comfortable used one-handed. I've already ruled out the X on specs alone. No way my hands fit that 4.7" screen.

Coming from Galaxy Nexus

Just received the htc one s today,I must say im impressed even coming from a galaxy nexus which i still have. The one s is so smooth and i must say i like sense 4, stock android got a little boring after awhile.Hate it if you want but sense brings some useful features to the table and it looks professional unlike touch wiz and the cartoon icons.Even tho its pentile amoled the screen looks much better than the galaxy nexus hd amoled screen reason mostly because of the blobs and lines on the nexus.Im huge on music and htc seems to always have better sound cards/drivers than sammy.Overall im happy with both phones i will occasionally switch back and forth when im bored now all i have to do is order a micro sim adapter =( and root but ill hold out till dev picks up
I too came from a Galaxy Nexus, and thus far, I'm happy I made the trade (equal swap, Galaxy Nexus with box and accessories new condition for a new condition One S with box and accessories).
The main reason I made the trade was because my Nexus had the worst case of the blues (and yellows). It had the worst blue-ish/yellow-ish tint/hue I've seen on any S-Amoled phone I've owned. The SGS2 I have is a lower res, but the S-Amoled Plus made a big difference in regards to generating accurate whites without a yellow layer looming over.
Ultimately I'm happy I made the swap and I actually realized that I prefer the 4.3 inch display with the soft capacitive buttons over the 4.65. I'm also one of the rare folks who prefers the pentile qHD display due to everything looking a bit sharper, which has been much easier on my eyes.
Glad you like the One S, I'm completely satisfied with mines so far and for the first time in 6 months of switching back and forth between phones, I've got a keeper, and have found the "One".
I havent really found the right one yet there seems to be flaws with all the phones in the past 6 months iv'e owned (iphone 4) lack of hspa+ speed on tmobile (sensation 4g)dust under screen over heating(amaze 4g)horrible battery life(galaxy s2)blobs and lines on screen, call echo with case on(galaxy nexus)i got lucky had minimal lines on screen only on extremely low lights. And now the one s.I love both the nexus and one s maybe i'll sell both and get the galaxy s3 when it comes out.But for now im enjoying it while my nexus gathers dust.

Haha, we're all almost identical in the phone's we've owned in the past 6 months.
I had (still have) an iPhone 4 (I know, dirty right? The games are still great, despite the smaller screen), and I also couldn't use it due to lack of 3G and running on slow ass edge. Also had an HTC Amaze with HORRIBLE battery, SGS2 had blobs, but the colors were great and battery life wasn't as bad once I flashed a great ICS Rom on it (shout out to TDJ for Darkside Evolution ICS port), Galaxy Nexus, which I actually liked, but personally, thought it was a bit too big and the screen color issues killed it for me, and now the One S, which I have yet to put down to be honest. My wife has been berating me about the time I spend with this phone (or all phones for that matter) as opposed to you know, couple things, but I can't help it, there's just so many choices!
The galaxy S2 wasnt bad at all i only jumped ship when i seen the nexus for 400.I ended up selling my white t989 for 450 and getting the nexus for 442 tax and shipping included..The t989 forums has little dev activity but they do have great devs most notably Eugene373 for his cm7 and muiu kangs..Since you've had the One S a bit longer than I is there any issues? And also hows the battery life so far.Its on par with the t989 on my end but i've only received the phone today..

So far battery imo has been better then the Nexus, and about on par with the SGS2, slightly better. I use Juice Defender to boost battery life, and it's helped. I've gotten up to 11 hours of very very heavy usage on the One S playing Temple Run for long periods of time, surfing the web, playing more temple run, texting, emailing, phone calls, navigation and gps, downloading apps, fiddling with the OS, etc, and this is all stock. I haven't rooted or installed a rom, I'm strictly stock as of right now. There's a few animation glitches here and there.
For example, when scrolling through the Gmail widget, the widget will think I'm trying to resize it, which gets annoying, but if you scroll slowly, you won't have that issue. I'm sure the carrier will send a fix for these minor mishaps.
Otherwise I've had a few data connectivity issues, and I live in a pretty good HSPA+ location where I get 15-22mb down and about 5-7 up. It sometimes goes into airplane mode on it's own only to turn back on, and I realize this because I'll get the notification for the same voicemail I haven't checked for 2 days. It doesn't happen very often and when it does, you probably won't even notice.
That's pretty much all I've spotted thus far, it's been great otherwise and I'm having fun playing with the stock build until I end up rooting it and flashing a rom (if I end up doing so, I'm enjoying stock enough to not feel it necessary to do so).
Plus, been getting great benchmarks, roughly 5000 on quadrant, which is much higher then stock ICS on the G-Nexus and the SGS2.
It's zippy, it's quick, it works well, Sense 4.0 isn't overbloated or cartoonish like TouchWiz, and it's thin enough to catch people's attention and ask me what it is.
So ultimately, I think you'll end up enjoying this device. It's really much cleaner and more fluid of an experience over the Amaze, and has just about the right battery life to get you through the day with moderate to high use.

Thanks
I haven't bought a case yet, I went to a kiosk in our local Galleria called "Gadget Guard", they went ahead and installed a complete body cover, great quality, perfect installation on the front and back, doesn't compromise the speaker grills, camera, or the flash. It also doesn't have the quasi-ridges that you see on Zagg protectors. So I'm content with this thus far until I see a nice case. Thing is, the phone is so elegant as is, so thin and feels great in the hand, that I feel somewhat bad casing it up. But on the other end, it's cash in my hand, so I have to protect my investment!
I hadn't seen those Cruzer cases, just googled it, those look sweet.

It came down to the One S or the Galaxy Nexus for me and I am glad that I went with the One S. The design of the phone is just too beautiful. I've had the AOSP experience on ICS and I'm okay with Sense being on top. A phone that is 5 months ahead of another phone really proves what it can improve on and the One S is proof of that.
I too came from the Nexus Prime, and I like the screen of the one S better than the nexus, especially considering that the nexus had an HD screen. I also had the international one X and that screen is just AMAZING but unfortunately would not get T-Mobile 3G or 4G so I got the one S instead & I'm loving it. Slim design, excellent battery life and great screen. Only thing I would like would be a 32GB version like the one X and on screen keys like the nexus but overall I like it. The battery last way longer than the nexus.

Always curious to hear.
Got mine yesterday.
It's all screen! Lighter, thinner than GS3. Feels more like a small, thin Note 2 which is a good thing to me. Not so bubbly as GS3. Screen is amazing. Bloatware is out of control. The back looks kind of like snake skin.
The speaker is much louder than GS3. So far, I love it. Haven't even tried the features yet!

Got mine yesterday as well. Extremely nice screen! Gorilla Glass 3 resists finger prints better then advertised in my opinion and the overall 5 inch display is incredible. Super zippy but yes, comes loaded with Samsung and AT&T Apps but this shouldn't be too surprising as Samsung did advertise there software quite a bit. Only natural they put there mark in it. On the flip side all this is easily fixable once a root is out but EVEN with this stuff the phone manages to handle it's memory well and work fast.
Overall I am glad I waited and after a couple of weeks I think there people freaking out are really gonna kick themselves for getting all worked up over stupid problems that are easily dealt with.
Got mine yesterday. see my bloatware thread.
Hardware is amazing and top notch. Software is so bloated and bogged down that, when combined with locked bootloader, I will strongly consider returning.
People might flame me for this, but even with the bloat disabled and using Nova launcher, my gs3 running slim bean is faster on everyday tasks.
Just hit 5% battery life and the phone just automatically reduced brightness to a point that I can barely use it, and phone won't let me crank it back up. Just way too much garbage.

screen is mind blowingly good, i had a HTC one for 3 days before i got my GS4 and honestly the one was closer to the s4 then i thought it would be. the one had less bloat and it stutter a bit less (after freezing bloat my phone has gotten ALOT better). camera is awesome love the quality and wow this phone is so small for 5 inches. coming from a note 2 and a temporary lumia 920 this thing feels tiny and light, honestly one of the major selling points of the gs4 is it's bezel less design (imo). if bootloader stays locked for long i am selling it or trading it for the one or octa core version.... its a shame that the stock rom is so bloated, i traded the one back because i thought sammy software would blow htc out the water but it didn't . One more thing, the GS4 tv remote works 10000 times better then the htc one. htc could not sync to my sound bar or u-verse box no matter what i tried, the GS4 had that working in seconds. i have 3 remotes just for my bed room and the fact that i do not need them is a huge plus.

You might need to play with the settings some more for the auto brightness settings. As for the lag, AOSP ROMs have always been faster (in my experience) to Touchwiz Roms. I'm going to put up with the stock Touchwiz for as long as I can before trying out the first releases of AOSP on the GS4. I'm hopeful we will see some crazy development action if it's true the Quad-core international version ROM's can easily be ported to the US versions and vice versa. The international GS3 had so much to chose from. I was perfectly happy on my GS3 using AOKP, but I'm sure I'm not going to regret moving over to the GS4. I had the same debate when switching from the GS2 to the GS3.
I dont get mine till tonight, but I found one in a best buy mobile store and was surpised at how much stuttering I saw just going through the homescreens.
Im hoping that when I disable all the eye tracking stuff that will all run better.

Overall, better than Galaxy S3 by a decent margin. But I used to have an iPhone 5, and my initial impression is that the IP5 takes better pictures than the GS4, at least in these conditions. I feel like it was extremely rare that I got a bad photo out of that phone, even in a relatively dark room as in these pictures, but as you can see in my link, several of these are pretty bad.

I feel like it was extremely rare that I got a bad photo out of that phone, even in a relatively dark room as in these pictures, but as you can see in my link, several of these are pretty bad.

Your pics look pretty good to me. I'm viewing them on my 24" monitor at work though. Cute dog btw. I'm sure compared to the ip5 the gs4 will have better detail due to the higher resolution in normal conditions? Is there an exposure setting? Or other settings to help low light conditions?

Now that I've taken a second look, I guess you are right that they are pretty decent, except for one of them. I'm so used to looking at things on a small screen that when I blow it up on a big monitor I expect it to be just as sharp on a big screen as it was on a small screen!

i agree. those pics you posted dont look that bad. that's the problem with the htc one camera (i own one) when you increase the resolution of the pic, the quality suffers due to only being 4mp. the gs4 is 13mp so it wont be as bad when you increase it's resolution (although there will still be some kind of quality drop off).
Just frickin' awesome. After having the Note this "cheap" plastic feels luxurious
Got mine today. Coming from an LG Optimus G. Here's a few thoughts.
1. I really like the keyboard. But since I've been a swiftkey user for a long time that's no surprise.
2. Screen is very good. Wish it was a little brighter when using auto brightness, but it is very good nonetheless.
3. Maybe I'm just not that picky, but I don't notice any lag. At least not anything bad enough to complain about.
4. Seems to charge pretty fast with the included 2 amp charger.
5. It might be plastic, but I can tell you I like the light weight and the feel in my hand better than my LG Optimus G...
6. I thought the 'swapped' menu and back buttons would bother me. But to be honest, I kind of like it better...

I have a few questions,
1. Does the speaker have 'stereo sound' like the HTC one? Can you hear the base? What about hooking up to the headphone? Does it sound better than S3?
2. Anyone here uses Allshare cast? I have a Samsung LED Smart TV that I stream movies directly from my phone to the TV with a touch of a button on the S3. It does have occasional lags, however. Does the S4 do the same?
3. Does the S4 have the same amount of ringtones like the S3?

I actually really like the button setup. When I got my first smartphone like three years ago, it was a Blackberry, and it had a similar button arrangement. It went [PHONE][MENU][HOME/SELECT][BACK][END CALL]. My current Galaxy S2 is [MENU][HOME][BACK][SEARCH]. So the S4 will be the same as I am used to, and I will appreciate not having to get used to a new setup.
two issues.
1)wifi keeps on disconnecting... very annoying
i have another device on the same wifi, but it's not disconnecting at all.
2) RAM. even if i clear everything, i'm at 1.2GB ish.. i always notice the homescreen widgets refreshing themselves due to low RAM.
anyone else?
everything else is fine.
speedy, beautiful screen, good speaker, very nice camera, etc.
Speaker is very good; coming from S2
Bloat... Blah

I honestly dont feel a need to root with the One S4 I can see being pretty much the same. Too me stock is way more boring =/

incredibly disappointed in the M8...

So, after spending a few years using HTC products (coming from Apple)...I have to say that I am increasingly disappointed with my "NEW" M8... And I'm sure all the die yards out there (which I was up until the M8, will attack me for saying this...) But, this phone is singularly the most disappointing thing that has ever happened to me.
I went from the iPhone 4 to the desire to the DNA to the M7 to the M8... And for the first 3 jumps, was incredibly pleased... Until now.
I have essentially spent $600 on a bigger M7. With the loss of the capacative buttons, and addition of the soft nav keys, I am left with the same size screen... Stock kernel adds almost no performance increase over a nodded M7 kernel... And the "actions to wake/sleep" aren't really that exciting coming from my M7..
The ONLY two things that I see as an upgrade are the battery (to be fair, is WAY better) and the option to use an AD card. There still is NO inductive charging in HTC's flagship... Yes, the screen size is increased, but lost to the soft nav keys, the camera that was garbage in the M7 is garbage in the M8... And the addition of a depth sensor satisfies exactly 4 people on the planet...
Pile that on top of the fact that I am now writti g from my 3rd M8 (I've had the phone(s) for a whopping 17 days...And am on my 3rd... My first had some messed up LCD bleed out of the box... My second wouldn't detect headphone removal... So... 17 days and $1800 worth of phone later, I'm still left with a feeling of jealousy as I look at my girlfriend's unrooted S5, seeing her using her full screen, inductive charging, a phone that weighs WAY less, and still has just as goon battery life and an infinitely better camera... Save for her lack of front facing camera... I am routinely jealous... And it's sad... Sad to have whY should be an amazing device, constantly showing that so little attention was given by the engineers at HTC as to what their customers wanted.. Sad..Sad...Sad...
So... Patiently waiting for the VZW S5 to get root, and I think I will leave this HTC trend behind...
I can relate to the headphone issues, that was very irritating. Now I am scared to plug any head phones in ... That was my second device.. My first device had air bubbles under the screen... HTC quality inspection sucks IMO.

Are you really suprised that the m8 is basically a m7 I mean anyone that looked at the specs should have reallized the m8 was a m7 with a bigger battery and a second crappy camera lol??? I mean come on lol having said that the s5 is a cheaply made piece of crap HTC may have issues out of the box but build quality is on a different level compared to Samsung anything.

I've had zeros issues with mine and everything has been working great. The S5 looks good too, but touch wiz and a locked up bootloader with probably no way to unlock completely kill any samsung for me. I understand the camera isn't the best. but it works well enough for a phone and is fast and better in low light than any of my previous phones. If I wanted to take good pictures I'd use my DSLR anyways. Sound's like you've had some bad luck and like the S5 more anyways. Get whatever makes you happy no reason to spend so much on it if it doesn't.
Had mine since day one and haven't had one single issue. Used to be a Sammy fanboy before I traded my S4 for an M7 last year and I haven't looked back since. The S5 doesn't even interest me. Lol

I have had HTC phones for a long time running and have also (and still do) have phones from Samsung (Note 3) and Sony (Xperia Z). It sounds to me like you have had some bad luck when it comes to the M8 and I certainly can understand why you are upset. One of my favorite things to do is to Mod my phone in various ways and I have always had that ability when it comes to HTC unlike Samsung. As the other poster said, The M8 is an updated version of the M7 not a ground breaking jump to something new. Apple is the reigning king of this by far. This is not a completely new model just an update of an already popular phone. One thing I do totally agree with you is about the camera. Many people believe the higher the megapixel the better picture will be. This is far from the truth. All a higher megapixel rating does is add pixels to an image which is useful for printing large format photos and cropping. That all being said, I feel like HTC could have done more to enhance the camera taking abilities of the phone. If I want to take a picture that counts I reach for my real (DSLR) camera. I love my M8 and loved my M7. I am certain that if the S5 is what you want there will be many willing buyers of your M8 to allow you to switch over to the S5. Everyone has different experiences and opinions so I am by no means going to say you are wrong. What I will say is as far as my M8 is concerned I am completely satisfied. Good luck jumping on the Samsung train.

I too have a DSLR camera (Canon T4i... and i DIDNT buy the T5i because canon admitted that the T5i JUST added really good movie quality... quality that you can obtain by adding magic lantern... AND THEY ADMIT IT!!! (google it if you dont believe me)... and i didnt buy a D60 BECAUSE im not an amazing photographer, looking to get on the cover of NatGeo... and i knew i would get what i expected because canon was honest.. and i spent what i spent... because canon was honest... The garbage that HTC spews about their camera is nothing more than that.. its garbage... You CAN NOT refocus a shot with your M8.. you can add blur to it.. and it takes about 30 seconds to do so.. but i can do the same in photoshop in about half the time... and have been able to do so WITH ANY PHOTO EVER TAKEN... without 2 cameras...
As for megapixels.. you are right, to a degree.. megapixels are over rated.. you know what is under rated? adding a BETTER camera to a phone that is replacing its predecessor... they could have called it a 6MP CMOS.. and i would have felt better... but, to add exactly the same camera, with exactly the same screen size (after the soft nav) as my old phone? WTF!!! and, you know... if they hadnt used the same size HTC border at the bottom, but rather had given me edge to edge screen... fine.. but frankly, HOW DO YOU NOT FEEL RIPPED OFF? (seriously... put your M7 next to your M8... and start doing REAL comparisons... stop being biased because it's an HTC product...)
and im not saying the S5 is my direction... frankly, im leaning more severe.. thinking an i product... at least when they steal all of my money, i know im getting a remake of the last model because they added an S to it and charged $300 more for it...
FYI... I have since switched back to my M7... i really did love it as a phone... wasnt a fan of losing inductive charging... but, whatever.. the rest made up for it from the DNA... The M8 though... GARBAGE
(On a side note.. yes, the headphones.. F*ing AMAZEBALLS!!!... they actually do sound better on my M8 and M7 than my beats in ear buds do)...
I don't have much to dispute about what your saying about the camera. But if I was buying a phone for only a camera it wouldn't be an HTC or a Samsung. Overall I knew what I was getting into and I am pleased.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I've accepted the downsides to the M8, and if the purchase of it has taught me anything, it's made me aware of what I'm really looking for in a phone. I'm really really hoping Verizon picks up the Sony Z2, and that development is not locked down. Until the next big thing comes along, I'm ok with the M8.
Strange, isn't there supposed to be an onslaught of hate posts defending the M8 because you expressed a completely justified dissatisfaction? Aren't moderators supposed to be blathering on about how a "general" thread is apparently not place to discuss such things?

I love mine. I've had almost every single phone Verizon has offered in the past five or six years since I worked for them. M8 is definitely the best phone I've ever owned.
The color of the camera and dynamic range are spectacular. People wonder why the s5 has brighter pictures and its because of software post processing which degrades the quality of the image. The HTC One series is truly a photographer's phone. It takes beautiful raw images and then let's you, the user, post process the way you like.
As for the build vs the m7, the m8 is far better feeling and sturdier.
I understand what you are saying with your original post. But, there aren't going to be mind blowing new things every year. If that's what you want, then but a phone every second or third year. Don't post disappointments on here, bashing a perfectly good phone for the following year. HTC did great, you just don't know how or what to expect from mobile technology.
To add, sorry you had some lemons, but you're one of few. It happens. Move on. And the weight..it's 15 grams. Do you know how little a gram is?! Stop majoring on the minor my friend.

The M8 is an upgraded M7... Period! Just like the S5 is an upgraded S4 and so on. If you are looking for something to blow your mind, it is not yet available. This market is getting to a point where you will probably only see minor spec bumps with ANY manufacturer. I love the M8 cause of the build and overall snappiness of the device. It is much quicker than the M7 in all tasks due to the upgraded hardware. Just sold my T-Mobile S5 and I am very grateful I did cause TouchWiz is hideous! I realized why I ditched Samsung long ago. There really is no other competition as far as Verizon phones go IMO. This has and will have a huge development following and that is few and far between nowadays, especially with Verizon. You can always wait for the iPhone 6?? Lol

Hope you enjoy the s5. It will get root sometime in the next few months in sure but with that gawd awful safe strap and no CM. The s4 was made by playschool but holy sh*t the s5 takes it to a whole new level. It feels so cheap that it could pass for a fake toy if you put a sticker on the screen. Not too mention is probably slow and clunky with its awful touchwiz ui. Don't get me wrong, TW has potential, but they need to hire some real programmers to write their software because there is no excuse for the s4 or 5 to be as slow as they are when the m7 and m8 blaze through everything with the exact same hardware. Is the m8 a worthy upgrade from an m7? I think so. It's not a night and day difference but anyone that can read should have known that.

The "defense"... Uhhhhhhhhhh... Sounds like you're trying to bait for something..
Also, the weight thing is negligible at best... If you truly can tell a night and day difference? You've gotta work out some more.
The M8, in my opinion, is far better than the Samsung's I've sporadically owned.. And as for just an "upgraded" m7? Let's talk about Samsung.... And Apple... And LG.......... Uhhhhh

Nah, the M8 is the best smartphone experience available right now. Samsung's Touchwiz is marred by issues in its design and performance. Stock software is VERY important nowadays since getting root, let alone a stable AOSP ROM for said device, is much more difficult nowadays. Samsung has shown that they refuse to evolve in this way and will eventually fall behind. Even Apple managed to update their user interface.
I agree that HTC needs to step up their quality control. I understand they're trying to get back into the black but I too went through 2 devices prior to having this third acceptable one.
The Z2 comes close, but I find Sony's overlay to be behind as well. HTC really knocked it out of the park with Sense 6.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
This is all personal preference. If you're so disappointed with your m8 you probably should've researched more before buying it. Possibly looking at reviews that literally all pointed out the capacitive button change and same camera quality as the m7.
Every device is going to have quirks about it that isn't perfect, so what? This phone is fantastic in every way, and nitpicking little details like the weight of the device or camera quality are things you should've researched before making a $600 purchase.
By the way, a little note on the camera, every single person who have seen some of the photos I've taken have been amazed at the quality. 70% are iPhone users. I just took a group photo yesterday with my phone, and my friend used her iPhone 5s. Everyone in the group liked my photo more, with both photos in the exact same conditions.
Give the camera a chance before you knock it, I've had nothing but great results.

Tell my why I shouldn't return my One M9 for an S6

I've had my HTC One M9 for 2 days now, and I'm starting to see things that are disappointing to me. Especially for such a high end, pricey device. Battery life is not very good at all compared to my old LG G2. And it takes forever to charge. The camera is, for lack of a better word, horrible.
I'm trying to decide if I should return it to T-Mobile in exchange for a Galaxy S6. All the reviews I've read and watched lean toward the S6.
Tell me why or why not?
...You came to the S6 forum to ask fans of the device to talk you into NOT getting it?
Seriously? -_-
Nah, this is definitely an April Fool's post.
I was torn between the m9 and s6..after watching the keynote and seeing hands on videos, I quickly decided on the s6. I'm glad I did. Pictures look better than my g2 (the phone I came from). The screen crispness, colors and brightness is superb! Didn't mind not having micro SD or removable battery since I didn't have it before.
The only thing I find weird to adjust is that whites seem to have a yellow tint, where as on my g2 they were more blue or white (in my opinion).
The front facing camera is really nice quality too.
S6,higher res screen in a slightly bigger screen size. The size of s6 is smaller and lighter than the m9.

Well... the only cons are the same cons that every review mentions. Lack of SD card slot and price. Also the speaker quality is obviously lesser on the S6 if that matters to you.
The only other consideration is how much you care about rooting/unlocking/custom ROM support, which will certainly be stronger on the M9 just because it's a Snapdragon device. At least that's how it'll be initially.
Other than those, the M9 loses in every other measurable area.
So really the M9 Vs. S6 issue comes down to how much the price difference matters, how much you care about "3rd party" support, and whether or not you need a SD card slot.
Edit: Suppose the M9 warranty program is worth considering as well.

We'll, my G2 was running aicp 5.0.2 with custom rom which I could easily go 24hrs and be fine.
So far my s6 has slightly less battery life. But i can quickly go from 15% to 100% in an hour. Balances out. I'm using the s6 a lot to get things setup and such, so not quite a fair comparison. Letting the battery settle in for a week.
I do see a speed difference between my g2 and the s6 though
I'm even kinda been on the fence to keep my G2 and hold out what's to come in the fall, but that is very unlikely for me to do.

The s6 is faster, or the g2? Same here with waiting. I wanted to wait for the g4, but with T-Mobile's jump, I'm able to upgrade every 6 months. So, no biggie if I wanna go back to LG at the end of the year.

I haven't gotten the S6 yet since I'll have to wait until April 10th, and I'm also coming from a G2.
The S6 will definitely be faster- even though I really do enjoy my G2.
All the Bestbuy locations have the S6/Edge on display. I suggest you check them out in person.
If you are coming here to ask you have already made your decision. To be honest if you are interested in a G4 id wait until its announced and compare that to the S6 then get a device.
I'll tell you why you SHOULD return your One M9. The S6 is by far the biggest leap I've ever seen in a phone, and I've had every major LG/HTC/Samsung phone from the past 3 years lol.
It truly is a home run.
Keep m9 for a bit longer to see if anything changes in terms of camera and battery performance. I think a person should keep a phone for a least two weeks to get a good impression. Also go on HTC thread to see camera tricks. I'm getting m9 tomorrow and I will see if it will meet my great expectations as I'm coming from a phone that's three years old.
I would only buy s6 if camera was the main thing but for me it isn't and the negatives of the s6 outweigh my liking for the device. The soc difference isn't big in reality and I think they both have inconsistent battery reviews from people, so they are similarly disappointing. Design and ui are a personal opinion but I think m9 is better.
Go with whatever you like tbh and I hope whichever phone you choose you have a great experience

Only Gripe? Having a camera THAT bad is a HUGE fail on HTC's part, when the biggest weakness they've had since the M7 fiasco was their camera
All they had to do to save their company was fix their camera and put a 2K screen in their new flagship.
Instead, they did neither. I predict either a buyout from Samsung to grab patents or HTC simply going out of business in a year.

Screen is a moot point no real difference with 1080p its just a numbers game tbh. iPhone 6 has a lower resolution screen and funnily enough it also looks fine.
Thank god they didn't put a 2k display and the camera isn't an epic fail. They haven't pushed the sensor to what it is capable of. Also manual control says a different story. I doubt they are going bust this year and I think they would rather die then sell themselves to Samsung. I do hope they do get bought by another respectable company so they can be in a better position. They just need more money in R&D and marketing.
