Hi Guys,
I recently got my hands on the OnePlus One. I was using a HTC one X for the last year or two and I have been having a nightmare trying to transfer my contacts.
With HTC scene my contacts are all in order and each contact has there FB/Twitter/Whatsapp linked together under the same contact. Now when exporting my contacts and reimporting them to CM11s the contacts are not in order. some of my contacts which have more than one tel number are separate and duplicating each other..its all just a mess and obviously i have lost the flexibility of grabbing contact images from their social account and putting them on the contacts thumbnail.
Is there anyway for me to fix the above? what's the best way to take my HTC contacts and import them into CM 11S.
I have currently deleted all my contacts of the OPO cos it was annoying me so much so any help would help massively! thanks.

Don't know where the best place to post this so it's here in General.. ^_^
What is the best way to manage and tidy up contacts?
Background:
I've suddenly got over 1000 contacts (most are duplicates of duplicates!)
I've not got all my Gmail, Mobile, Facebook & UbuntuOne contacts combined into a single HUGE mess... (Most had already synced with each other before they were synced with the HTC Desire HD).
There's loads of mis-matched contacts which is a nightmare to sort out in the Mobile.
Most of the sites only offer online management and going through 1000+ contacts would takes days..
I would love to receive some tips on the topic as well. Sitting on a Mac though.

Go to your google account on the computer. http://www.google.com/contacts
and push "Find all duplicates," then merge them on the top. Now you got all your contacts without duplicates. Delete contacts on your phone and then Sync it. You done. Use that page to sort them out as well.
Doing that sorted out about a third of the duplicates...
But that does not account for the mislabelled contacts..
Looks like I gonna have to do the rest by hand. Gonna take ages...
Ermm... how do you delete all the contacts in the Desire HD?
Can only see an option to do them one at a time...
I'm running CyanogenMod 6.1.3
I received my Sensation yesterday and imported my SMS' from my old HD2 running Android using the SMS Backup & Restore App.
When looking at the list of SMS conversation threads, not all of them use the contact pictures for the contact.
Some are blank, some have the standard HTC silhouette person for contacts with no pictures and some have pictures.
Once I go into the thread, the picture appears correctly at the top left.
Does anyone have this problem? Or know of any solution to get them back?
When running android on your HD2 were you using a Desire HD rom with htcsense.com functionality? Are any of your contacts linked (check)? I noticed htc sense syncs your contacts but not the pics and messed up my contacts.
sent from HTC Sensation
It was a Desire HD rom and I did sign up for htcsense.com, but when I log into htcsense.com, there is no details about contacts or SMS'.
My contacts come from my Exchange account and are linked through Facebook for HTC Sense, Facebook, Twitter, Twitter for HTC Sense, LinkedIn and LinkedIn for HTC Sense (alot, I know!).
yeah that's a big flaw to me when it comes to htcsense.com. it used to have way more functionality when if first came out & now it's kinda gimped. If they're gonna backup all that data there needs to be some way to manage it.
My suggestion is to sign in to htcsense, wait for it to sync, then clear data for Contacts Storage & hopefully htc sense will sync that, then log out of it & sync with your Exchange account.
Thanks, but I don't think it's anything to do with HTC Sense.
My icons are linked to the contacts, they display in "People", appear when they phone and are there when I enter a threaded conversation - just not when on the main SMS screen that shows all conversations.
Anyone able to offer any more advice?
Is there a way to force it to rebuild the smaller versions of the pictures? Is there a cache I can clean out (Without wiping my contacts)?
Thanks
I have just upgraded my DHD to the sensation having origanally come from the desire. When I set the phone up it automatically imports my contacts etc from google but now they are in a right mess and duplicated loads of times. Instead of 350 contacts I have 1275. what's the best way to sort this out to neaten it all up?? I would also like to link to Facebook profiles for pictures etc. Do I link to facebook for htc sense or Facebook???

To me it automatically gave me the option to link contacts. You can also try people>menu>view and then select what to display

Yeah it gave me the option to link bit as there are so many duplicates it's all a mess. I've tried the viewing of certain groups etc but I just want to get rid of all the duplicated entries and tidy it all up.
BE CAREFUL!
Some of the dups are actually the same contacts broken up in to multiple items. If you have a contact that has 3 phones numbers it can broke it up in to 3 contacts...
I have 960 contacts instead of 200
did you sync with HTCsense.com? that also backs up your contacts & restores as well. that & the HTC Sync desktop client totally ****ed up my contacts. I stopped using them after that.
Did some searching about this beforehand but couldn't come up with a solid answer. Really hoping someone can help me out.
I very recently changed my friend's MT4GS from the latest stock ROM to CM 10.1. The ROM works fine for the most part. The issue is that she seems to be missing the vast majority of her contacts which is extremely upsetting to her as I'm sure you can understand. The few that were retained were the only ones she had synced to her Google account. The really odd thing is that she has had this phone replaced on four different occasions (same model) and her contacts would always sync effortlessly going from one to the next (all of them being on the stock ROM until now).
I've tried enabling sync in the People app through Gmail, Facebook, and even adding her Hotmail account to the AOSP email app and syncing that as well. The latter did add plenty of contacts but not the ones she was used to seeing, just email contacts exclusive to that account, no phone numbers as such.
So basically there are a few questions that arise from all of this:
1: Is there a simple way to get the contacts back while still on AOSP?
2: If we were to revert back to the stock ROM would the contacts come back as they have in the past?
3: Why would the contacts sync on the stock ROM but not AOSP?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
She was probably syncing contacts with T-Mobile and not Google, go back to at least a stock based ROM, sync contacts, then transfer them to gmail, then you can flash any ROM you want as they will be tied to gmail

Thanks for the info and the tip. I'll give a shot and report back.
Its the most annoying thing for me with AOSP ROMs
The contacts she has "lost" are on her SIM card only right? Yet for some reason all AOSP and CM and AOKP
ROMs can't read those contacts...just the ones on the Google account
So best way is, return to stock as said above...i am sure all contacts are now available again, then sync them all to Google by just copying to Google account and flash back to your AOSP ROM and you are done
Was shocked the first time I rooted my desire z and missing some contacts too...but with time I got it why they where missing xD (still don't know why AOSP can't read SIM card contacts though)

If you login to my-tmobile (assuming she was backing up to t-mo) go to mobile life-> contacts, then you can do an export of all the contacts that are there to something like VCF and then import to the phone. If they're out there, they're certainly not lost!
Success! Thanks everyone for the information and advice. You were all very helpful.
What I ended up doing was reverting back to a stock ROM, had T-Mobile automatically restore the contacts and exported them. Then simply imported them once back on AOSP. No biggy. :]
Thanks again! You can consider this thread solved!
