I received my Sensation yesterday and imported my SMS' from my old HD2 running Android using the SMS Backup & Restore App.
When looking at the list of SMS conversation threads, not all of them use the contact pictures for the contact.
Some are blank, some have the standard HTC silhouette person for contacts with no pictures and some have pictures.
Once I go into the thread, the picture appears correctly at the top left.
Does anyone have this problem? Or know of any solution to get them back?
When running android on your HD2 were you using a Desire HD rom with htcsense.com functionality? Are any of your contacts linked (check)? I noticed htc sense syncs your contacts but not the pics and messed up my contacts.
sent from HTC Sensation
It was a Desire HD rom and I did sign up for htcsense.com, but when I log into htcsense.com, there is no details about contacts or SMS'.
My contacts come from my Exchange account and are linked through Facebook for HTC Sense, Facebook, Twitter, Twitter for HTC Sense, LinkedIn and LinkedIn for HTC Sense (alot, I know!).
yeah that's a big flaw to me when it comes to htcsense.com. it used to have way more functionality when if first came out & now it's kinda gimped. If they're gonna backup all that data there needs to be some way to manage it.
My suggestion is to sign in to htcsense, wait for it to sync, then clear data for Contacts Storage & hopefully htc sense will sync that, then log out of it & sync with your Exchange account.
Thanks, but I don't think it's anything to do with HTC Sense.
My icons are linked to the contacts, they display in "People", appear when they phone and are there when I enter a threaded conversation - just not when on the main SMS screen that shows all conversations.
Anyone able to offer any more advice?
Is there a way to force it to rebuild the smaller versions of the pictures? Is there a cache I can clean out (Without wiping my contacts)?
Thanks

In "Accounts & Sync", Facebook has 2 profiles set up: Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense.
What is the difference? Should I remove one or the other?
At first, I was linking all of my FB friends and FB for HTC Sense Friends to each other. But I can't imagine this is normal. Or is it?

If you are using Friendstream and like having a contact's facebook info, including pictures show up in your People application then keep the FB for HTC Sense and remove the other one. If you aren't using that stuff remove FB for HTC Sense and use the regular facebook. Neither one will give you notifications. FB notifications for Android have been broken since day one.
Have your fb notify you by the email you have linked to your phone and all is well.. Keep FB for HTC as this gives you higher quality images for contacts, where regular FB gives u crap quality images.

The higher images option was my selling point. Thanks! I disabled FB sync. I notice if I completely remove it, it signs me out of the facebook application.
My favorite feature is seeing people's statuses on the "People" application. If that and high quality pictures are from the FB for HTC Sense sync, that's all I need!
Thanks for your input!
also found useful info googling "facebook for htc sense"

Thanks for this, Perfect!
(Sorry to drag up an old thread)
The only benefit I can think of for the normal Facebook app is that you can go directly to one of your contacts FB pages if its linked to their contact.
For me, Facebook for Sense doesn't show me 3 of my contacts(so weird) so I just use the normal Facebook to link to those 3 contacts.
ok how do I get my FB friends pic to them when I text them as of now it just shows a grey person when I text them
If I remember right I removed FB for sense because it stuck a few hundred contacts on my phone that I didn't want. A lot of my FB friends are just people in which I share news with relating to politics, religion and social issues, not people I want to show up in my contacts list on my phone.
Is this a issue for others as well?
yeah that happend to me and all of my fb friends where in my contacts but it happen when I first set up the FB app you can pick sync all or sync with existing contacts.
but i want the fb profiles to my contacts when I text someone even though I may a different name in contacts vs the Fb profile they have.
The standalone Facebook application will do everything Facebook for HTC Sense does except the friend stream (but Facebook has it's own widgets).
Both will sync contacts and can use the Facebook picture as the contact picture.
To hide all those extra contacts you can choose to only sync contacts already in your phone or go to Contacts -> Display Preferences -> Hide anything you don't want.
To use the Facebook picture go to the contact. Make sure the 2 contacts are linked then click on the Facebook picture and choose set as icon.
Also the standalone app gives me notifications they just seem to be slow.
My phone won't let me have both facebook apps synced.
I am running coredroid. I don't know if the OP foresaw these problems or what. It will only let you select one or the other. However, the first time I opened the regular facebook app, it asked me to import my contacts, which I did. To my horror, facebook replicated of all my htc facebook contacts in the people app, so I had two contact cards for each person. Therefore I removed facebook contacts through the facebook app. There is a setting once you are inside the app to remove them. Even though I only have HTC Facebook contacts now, I have two different facebook icons. Some contacts have big, sort of vertical f's, and some have small, sort of diagonal f's. Not sure what these different icons signify.
I have just upgraded my DHD to the sensation having origanally come from the desire. When I set the phone up it automatically imports my contacts etc from google but now they are in a right mess and duplicated loads of times. Instead of 350 contacts I have 1275. what's the best way to sort this out to neaten it all up?? I would also like to link to Facebook profiles for pictures etc. Do I link to facebook for htc sense or Facebook???

To me it automatically gave me the option to link contacts. You can also try people>menu>view and then select what to display

Yeah it gave me the option to link bit as there are so many duplicates it's all a mess. I've tried the viewing of certain groups etc but I just want to get rid of all the duplicated entries and tidy it all up.
BE CAREFUL!
Some of the dups are actually the same contacts broken up in to multiple items. If you have a contact that has 3 phones numbers it can broke it up in to 3 contacts...
I have 960 contacts instead of 200
did you sync with HTCsense.com? that also backs up your contacts & restores as well. that & the HTC Sync desktop client totally ****ed up my contacts. I stopped using them after that.
Hi guys, im new to the HTC line and i'm having a hard time fixing this widget called "People." The pictures of my contacts is really blurry, it is sync with my facebook. So i thought, must be the facebook, but then when i try uploading pictures that i took, it still look blurry. Anyone knows how to fix this? or is this a defect or problem with my Htc sensation? Thanks guys
When the image is linked to a contact it is saved at a lower resolution. I don't think anyone has gotten around that yet, even with root.
what I did was removed Facebook sync contacts and added synch Facebook for HTC sense.
for contacts w/o Facebook links I created phone contacts, linked them to the Google contact, then selected the phone contact as the default contact, then applied a pic from gallery. this method seems to keep the higher Res pics for me even after Google syncs contacts.
its tedious but so far the only thing that's worked for me.

Same problem here...
I have the HTC Desire-S with all latest software updates (android v2.3.5 and htc sense 3.0) and I'm having the same problem you have, plus:
-The widget people and the contacts from time to time loses the images and linked contacts...
-Corping pictures for the widget and for the picture galery also loses too much quality compared with HTC Desire (non S).
In the old htc desire (non S) this was never an issue and the image quality in widget and in a call was HD.
This problem is very stupid...
Is there any solution?
ROM: Android Revolution HD 6.4.0
Device: HTC Sensation 4g
Just wanted to put down my experiences and findings on the problems I've had with syncing my contact pics since I upgraded to an ICS ROM from my previous Gingerbread ROM.
Previous ROM: Android Revolution HD 3.6.13
With this ROM I had no problems with my contacts syncing Facebook pics and being used in 3rd party messaging applications. I use GoSMS and had no problems with the pics showing in the message list or when selecting a contact to message.
After upgrading to ARHD 6.4.0, based on ICS, my contact pictures were no longer showing in the GoSMS application message list, in message, or when selecting a contact to message. This was after doing a Superwipe and clearing all cache including Dalvik during the upgrade.
After upgrading the ROM I did not allow any of my applications to auto load and I did not restore them from my Titanium Backup that I had done before upgrading. I setup my Google account, went to the Market and made sure the Facebook app was up to date and setup that account. After allowing to sync I installed GoSMS and my other applications as I normally have when doing updates.
After setup and I couple of reboots I noticed some odd things. Facebook said it was synced and I saw the sync but my contact pics were missing in the GoSMS messaging app. After some testing I found that the pics showed in the stock Contacts and stock Messaging apps but not Go Contacts or GoSMS apps. I played around with removing all accounts and re-adding accounts multiple ways and even reset file permissions for the .png files in the /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/files/ directory, still no luck.
I finally installed FriendCaster while testing and found that when I had it sync it actually would sync in such a way that the Go applications showed them in the Contacts and SMS applications. I had to uninstall the Facebook app because I also found that with it installed, even though I told it not to sync contacts, it did something to wipe the pics from the aforementioned applications again.
So finally, after uninstalling the official Facebook app and re-syncing the contacts with FriendCaster, I was able to get the contact pics to show up in the Go applications I use to replace my Contacts, Dialer, and Messaging apps. I would rather use the official Facebook app because FriendCaster is lacking some of the functionality I use, but for now for me it's an acceptable workaround and I wanted to share.
Applications:
-FriendCaster (Free)
-Go SMS Pro
-Go Contacts EX
-Go Dialer EX
I currently use the contacts from Facebook for HTC Sense for clear contact pictures as those from Facebook for Android are grainy. As Facebook for HTC Sense is removed in ICS and Facebook for Android sync and ICS don't work well together this results in the problems you named. Another workaround is Google Contact Sync, an application you have to run on your PC in which you can link Gmail and Facebook accounts and sync pictures.
I just delete the "files" folder under /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts - then reboot and sync. That at least works with FB for HTC Sense & Twitter for HTC Sense. Not sure about the rest.

I have always used Handcent, most recently on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. I have installed on my ATT ONE X and am having some issues.
It will not properly import my previously saved themes (which isnt the biggest deal)
The real issue is that it will not display my contact pics that are syncing from the FB app. The stock messaging app does. Handcent does display contact pics that are saved to the contact, but not the FB synced ones.
Anyone else with this issue?
I've been having this issue as well. I finally figured out how to get the contact pictures to show up. I don't know if it's permanent since Sense LOVES to readjust the contact pictures to facebook but here's what I did:
I linked all my contacts on my phone with my skype, facebook, and google contacts.
For each contact I would select Edit, then at the top I would select the name of the contact from my phone. Then on the top right I would select the picture from the original phone contact.
It was tedious but afterwards everyone is showing up with their pictures.
Unlinking contacts in anyway has resulted in me having to repeat the process for that contact if I want to maintain the picture showing up in Handcent.
thanks, ill try that. just alot of contacts to manually do that to
I am having the same problem with my EVO 4g LTE (which is basically a OneX)
