[Solved] Draining power on standby

Hello community.
I've installed Cyanogen and noticed that the "Phone idle" and "Cell standby" apps are draining around 50% of battery power. Why can it be so? Is radio faulty?
This wasn't a problem with stock HTC Sense...
Or maybe I should just re-calibrate the battery?

Re-calibrating the battery stats my help represent a more accurate usage of your battery, but it wont have any effect on how long it actually lasts.
Out of interest, regardless of what is being represented in battery use graph, what time are you getting between charges? How old is your phone? Don't forget a new battery takes a couple of weeks before it's performing to full potential.
I ran CM7 for a spell and got roughly 24 to 36 hours up time, depending on whether I was using the CM kernel or the Tiamat one respectively. The Tiamat kernel gets slightly longer battery life, but that is because it under-volts so is not considered as stable as the CM one.

Well, I didn't have a chance to get an average time between charges, but it'd be something like 24 hours, so I guess, everything's OK.
Anyway, can radio software update/change improve time between charges?

Is only ever change a radio if it was to fix a specific problem, that couldn't be solved by other means. It is quite risky, and can result in a total brick if it goes wrong. Plus I'm not sure you can do it if you are still s-on.
If you are getting good performance and 24 hours battery life then I'd say leave it be. Any improvement with another radio would probably be too difficult to tell.

Depends on the nature of the "brick". Some are reversible (like a USB brick), but I believe a bad radio flash would mean it was beyond any recovery that you could do yourself.
If you have any problems like poor GPS lock or bad 3G performance and you are already on the right radio for your region (which you are likely already are) then there are usually other less risky procedures to solve any problems. Changing a radio should definitely should be left as a last resort only after all other avenues have been exhausted.
24 hours battery life with moderate/heavy use is about as much as you should expect to get. Any further improvements are better made by managing your radio use and syncing schedules well. Check my downloadable pdf guide that is one of the sticky threads in the General Section. I have done a section on battery life, where I have mentioned a few tips which have helped me push the limits of my battery life to the max.
Quite surprisingly I found the biggest improvement was made when I charged my phone to 100% at night on a timer plug, and let it have a 'rest' at 100% for several hours whilst I was asleep before resuming normal use. You'd be surprised how long it then takes your battery to drop to 99% if it's had chance to cool down after a charge. A hot battery will always discharge faster than a cool one. Charge it up during the day and immediately start using it, and it's down to 99% within minutes.
Look how long this graph shows I was at full charge, and how long I got from following this...

Along with, may be, switching to 2G instead of 2G/3G.

By the way, I'm looking at my battery using stats, it reads this:
- Cell standby - 38%
- Phone idle - 28%
- Wi-Fi - 13%
- Display - 13%
- *some game* - 5%
- Android system - 3%
I'm used to "Display" being top consumer, so these numbers seem kinda weird, don't they?))

I tried not to waste energy and switched off 3G (turning it on on demand). Voila

it's not an app, it's plug in timer like this

Not an app, but one of those timer plugs you can get from a hardware store. Mine is set to come on between 2am and 4am.
Edit: Nuts. Beaten to it! Yes one of those.

Battery dies then back to normal

I have an issue with my battery. Sometimes it starts to drain the battery VERY fast, like 80% in 20 minutes, then the battery dies and the phone turns off. But if I turn it on it starts with the ammount of battery it was before the crazy descharging, and the phone works as usual.
It is a pain in the ass because every night it happens, so I cannot set an alarm. Sometimes it happens in the day too.
It is upgraded to Android 4.0.4.
I forgot to say. I bought the phone and tried to update it. Something went wrong and the battery was low. So I coudnt use RSD tools anymore. So I opened the phone and did that force recharge thing to charge the phone up until it had enough energy to use RSD Tools again.

Might just need to clear battery stats. I'm guessing you didn't do a factory data reset after you took the update?

Hmmm. If you've done a full reset then it looks like it's an issue caused by the update itself. I've never seen a battery graph that looks like that.

its better to use battery calibrator app from market and use and u can also make 3 complete charge and discharge cycles and see ......if it still doesn't work then it should be a bad battery ......replace it

It's been shown that all of that multiple calibration mess is bunk. Except in the case of errors battery stats are cleared on reboot anyway.

A new battery would be a better option, ok try one thing , take off the battery and keep it in the sun for 2 hours, then charge it full .. Use this.. N seee

Nexus 5 battery problems

Hi. I have a two-months-old Nexus 5 (stock ROM & kernel; rooted). Two days ago my battery suddenly started having some problems. First of all, it doesn't last more than 1-2 hours with normal phone usage. Then it often becomes hot, even when not charging. Last but not least, if I keep using my phone while charging, it charges incredibly slowly, or it doesn't charge at all (the charge remains stable). I'm using the stock charger. Any suggestion?

The Nexus 5 has been proven to last longer then an SGS4 which has a bigger battery, and the HTC one with the same size battery (under proper testing conditions) all while using a faster SoC. Do you troll the forums for those phones as well?
Maybe a Moto G or LG G2 would suit some people better for their increased battery life, but that doesn't mean you need to troll every thread on here with false accusations.
If you'd like any more proof on how the N5 battery lasts longer and is more efficient than competing phones of higher prices, just let me know.

The most important stat to look at is partial wakelocks - it lets you see which app or apps are waking.

Go into device settings > Location. Set Mode to Device only. Ensure that the Google location reporting in that same area is off.
Take another BBS log and post it.

I experience the same issues. Not charging when connected or even lose charge when connected. I am still figuring out what causes it. First of all try using the original cable and charger. Second, disconnect the charger when the screen is on, I read somewhere that can help as well.
Today I had the same issue again, but just before I started charging, the battery would lose 1% per 2 minutes and my phone became very warm.
If I find out more, I will let you know.

That is the problem. That particular wakelock belongs to Google Now. I hope you don't use it, because the solution is to turn it off (from within the program). You could try force stopping and/or wiping it's data. But the fact of the matter is that it's a bug in the app.
Google Now has been this way since it was released. The only conclusion I can draw is that Google doesn't care. It's never behaved properly. And that location reporting (that you've now disabled) is completely out of control, been that way for a year now. I actually greenify the Google apps now. I'm tired of putting up with the lazy programming. Keep, Now, Chrome, Drive, Maps, I greenify all of those. I still allow them to sync, but Greenify will kill them again after they are finished.

I can confirm that I have no battery problems anymore (today after 6 hours of average usage it was still at 80%!!). Thank you all for your help!

Good to hear. If anyone else see's Android OS or Search taking up 50% or more of your battery that can be mitigated.

Take out your Battery, put it on a flat surface say a table. Try to Spin it....if it spins over 2 rounds then you need to buy a new battery.

[Troubleshooting] Battery Issues

Hi there.
This is not my issue but a friend. He got his OPO a month or so ago and recently came across this issue. His phone would say 100% for a very long time and not show any sign of drain even after usage for 6 hours. Then once it starts draining it would die at about 30%. He's not rooted or anything. If there's any way to solve this without a factory reset or root that would be preferable. He's on 38R.
EDIT: Just something more. He got a Moto 360 last Wednesday and noticed the battery percent was off last Thursday. Perhaps there's a connection there?

Same here. Happened to me twice. At around 17% it shut off. Didn't bother me much since I am averaging 1 day and 5 hours on 5+ hours screen time. However this morning after a full charge at around 11 pm the night before, I woke up at 6 am and it was at 76% and 40% by the 12th hour which was unusual. I usually wake up and turn off the alarm and it's at 98% and around 70% by noon.
So I turned phone off and fully charged. Once charged, powered it back on and left it plugged for about a couple of minutes before unplugging and started using. So far, it's back to normal power consumption.

There's another option (wipe battery stats in recovery) but I guess if your friend doesn't even want to root his phone, he most likely doesn't want to install a custom recovery either, am I right?
If that's the case, there's not really a solution for his problem. (unfortunately)
I really don't understand why he doesn't want to root it... But I know some people are very paranoid about it... for no obvious reason really. Just know that you can always unroot your phone after having fixed the issue.

[Help] My battery charge sensing is backwards???

After the Jan 6th Android 11 update for my Pixel 3 XL (installed last night - stock ROM, not jailbroken), my battery suddenly dropped to zero and refused to charge. Unplugging it would make it shut off immediately. See battery history here , I plugged it in before the update, ran the update, then when I came back it was at 0. This was plugged in the whole time.

It would sit at 0% while saying "charging rapidly". If I unplugged it, it would die.
Let it charge all night, and it ended up at 5% somehow. Not good. Pulling it off the charger, however, the batter percentage started to INCREASE! It got up to about 25% before I tried plugging it back in... At which point it steadily decreased again.
So, clearly my batter calibration is completely corrupted. Factory reset did no good, and looks like you can't wipe the system cache an more which was my first thought.
Unsurprisingly Google support was no help and wouldn't even take responsibility for repair cost despite it being clearly linked to their software upgrade.
Any ideas? Or am I borked?

What is the battery voltage? This will tell you it's actual charge state.
Try discharging until it auto shutdowns then fully charge it; recalibrate the dumb Android. Maybe someone knows a better way to recalibrate this?
Hard resets rarely solve this kind of problem; you need to find the root cause and correct it otherwise even if the hard reset works it will most likely only pop up again down the road.
A hard reboot be the most I would try. Even needing to do that indicates a apk or potential hardware issue. A good running Android never needs this.

Accubattery claims 4.227V at 69% charge, but lord knows how accurate that is. (Edit: I'm now up to 72% charge and it's claiming the same... So, yeah. Oh, and that +3% is without charging.)
Root cause is almost certainly some variable overwritten or system file corrupted during the Android system update, since it happened immediately after the update.

I think 4.2 volts is near a 100% charge.
4.127 is about 75% on my 10+
Can't recall as I rarely go that high.

Think that's my next step. Just tried running it all the way down to see if that would recalibrate it, no such luck. Died at 79%, now I'm charged "up" to 56%

Any idea if reflashing the factory ROM fixed it in those cases? Don't want to waste the time if not.

If the firmware doesn't have the same error... either that or go into the existing one and correct the mistake.
This is one of the reasons I'm not rooted. Too many loose ends... and very time consuming.
Maybe someone here has can help you in detail, good luck.
If jwoegerbauer is correct this only effects the battery % reported, not charging parameters or actual battery capacity. So it shouldn't harm the battery.
The charge level can be calculated by battery voltage which appears to accurate. I saw a chart for this but can't find it now.

Sad thing is I'm not even rooted. This is a completely stock phone. Since it's out of warranty google DGAF.

My bad, sorry. You stated that.
It seems the update got corrupted or was badly coded.
I'm always afraid this will happen with auto updates as you have no control over the process or download.
You need to get it reflashed to the last working version for that phone. Or live with it as is.
