Help upgrading from old cataclysm rom!!!! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So when I get my nexus 5 for Christmas last year I rooted and loaded cataclysm and didn't look back. Now with these new versions of android I feel like I should upgrade. Is there any benefit to 4.4.4? what would you suggest is the best aosp/stock type rom.I was also thinking about L, would that be a bad idea to use as my main rom? I was reading a lot of the threads about it and it seems pretty stable except for a lot of rom compatibility

These threads aren't allowed, it's up to you to find one that works best for you. And don't take Android "L" as if it's a consumer release, it's a developer preview.

As said above, we do not allow threads asking for best ROMs, kernels, ...

[Q] Best Stock Android ROM?

Hey guys, apologies if I'm not posting in the best possible section for this, but I've been wondering for a while.
I've been getting sick of TouchWiz. Not just the launcher (I got Nova the moment I could, and am still using it) but the customizations of the phone itself and the small annoyances that Verizon baked in, such as the always-on WiFi indicator. I've been debating going to a stock ROM for a long while, and I've made my decision to break free of the ridiculousness that is Verizon and Samsung's customizations, as they've made the phone slow, and I know it can run much better than it is right now. So here's my question:
What's the best stock Android ROM currently? I'd preferably want one that is
Being currently developed. I don't want a ROM with a lazy developer. (If ROMs are a few weeks late, I won't mind, but I don't want to be waiting forever to get the next .1 added to my version number.
Quick and minimal. Literally as close to stock Android as it can be. If there are things that need to be kept, such as the camera app, that's fine, but I'd like to rid myself of as much TouchWiz as I can.
Free of bugs. I know most ROMs aren't perfect. I'm fine with that. I need something to work as a stable daily driver, and I don't much care to hop on the next nightly I can find.
On the latest version of Android without bugs.
I have experience with rooting and flashing with Odin, but I haven't done it in a while, so if the method to root+flash is more than a one click or a couple of console commands, I'd like to be guided if possible. I have no want to brick my phone, as you can well imagine.
Also, if there's a list of stock ROMs for the Verizon GS3, I'd like to be pointed in that direction, if possible.
Thanks! I hope to hear from someone soon!
Not being rude but, if you were to take the amount of time you put into making this thread and actually looked throughout the forums you'd find a thread already on this or get this, you could go to the development threads and read the ops. Mind blowing right?

Yeah, I know that. I could surf through bunches of ROMs, but I posted here as a question for community feedback on a bunch of them, that might help me make a decision.
Is asking for opinions and information less efficient than going through a list that's new territory for me?
I'm not stupid. I want advice and info from experienced users. Is that so hard to ask for?
Great thread idea. Surprised no one else has done this.

You described most of the roms that this phone has. Most give you an option to keep phone stock, Based on each thread, they're all amazing to use daily. As far as being on the latest version you simply have to look at the thread title.
You'll definitely need to go through several threads and try them out to see what suits your needs best. It's not an easy task when there are several awesome developers on your phone!

Thanks! Didn't know I was delving into such a huge bunch of ROMs. Back in the X and Droid 2 days, I had to surf through a bunch of different ROMs that really weren't reliable. I know things have changed, but this seems pretty extreme.
If you know of any, which ones have you heard are the, well, "god-tier" ROMs? Any developers who are notable that I should check first?
Thanks again!
I wouldn't judge god tier roms, I'm happy to say that all of these roms on this device forum are just as reliable, it's only a matter of how your phone plays with the rom you end up choosing, since all devices play differently. Even if these threads are meant to be locked since they bring nothing but just opinions.

I will say that there isn't a rom that is the best. It is all about your preference. I have had bad experiences with Synergy,Axis and CleanRom doesn't mean that these are sh***y roms.

Well, I was just looking for information on the best Roms for the GS3, but since all of the Roms are apparently great, could you list a couple? Even if they aren't "god-tier", are there at least some that fit the qualifications and are well known? I know there's not going to be a "These are the best ROMs ever" list, but are there a few that are highly maintained, or some developers that are well known besides CyanogenMod?
Sorry if I seem new to this whole thing.
Barebones stock is pretty much all I've been for almost a month, and at this point I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a flashaholic, but i only flash his updates (andybones) and the great news is that he keeps the rom consistent in updates and solid Smoot performance.
Also hypredrive just got updated to rls 15 and that's another amazing rom that gets a monthly update and its worth the wait and a very determined developer.

You should give every rom a go, but you can start testing with Synergy. Try it for a week, and then test another rom
Sorry, "Best" is a term that is subjective and can only be defined by the individual, the post above/before me is a good idea.
XDA is not a support site, users are expected to use and test on their own.

Read the stickies and how-to threads like the first 3 threads in the General section first bro so you`ll know what to do when your N5 arrrives. Most custom roms are quite stable and the best way is to try some and keep the one you like most
personally, I like to stick with official builds of CyanogenMod. I recommend sticking with EITHER the official Clockworkmod build for a recovery, OR use PhilZ Touch recovery, as it adds quite a few features, as well as an easy to use theme system so you can customize a bit.
You're good sticking with the default CyanogenMod kernel, but I personally like Chaos kernel, as it also adds more features, as well as more customization in terms of performance and such. Just be careful with it if you use it.
But it all depends on what you like, the way you use your phone, or what you use it for. How often you use it, what apps you like, etc.
You might even want to just stick with the stock rom for a while. It's pretty good by default, and if you're used to another phone OS, it will certainly help you get used to Android in general again. Particularly KitKat.
Definitely as mentioned before, read the stickies for tutorials, available roms, etc.
I would say a stock rom, rooted with Xposed framework and couple of modules gives you everything you need for a stock user.

[Q] Best *Stable Lolipop ROM for OnePlusOne?

Hello!
So I just got my brand new One plus one today :good:. I wanted to install Lollipop on it, and yes I know its still in mostly alpha development at this moment. However, can anyone recommend me what in thier opinion is the best and most stable lollipop ROM for the One plus one? I'm mostly looking for stability. (and mediocre battery life)
Thanks in advance! :highfive:

If your OPO is new i wont recommend you doing anything for atleast 2 weeks!
Till that time Alpha builts will progress to beta builds hopefully
use CM11s Its actually quite awesome!
Play with camera you'll love it...
CM12 has bad camera for now! :{
There is no best stable lollipop rom, they all build from the same source and is more or less identical with very minor insignificant changes.
I personally like the latest liquidsmooth 4.0 build.

Best stable Lollipop Alfa for One+ One is for me the Temasek-Build.
There's no such thing as a best ROM anyway. You'll get a million different people with a million different opinions, which makes asking this question completely pointless because you're left having to flash and find out, which is what you should be doing in the first place.

Its an xda guy, he just had to to there to leave behind newbie spam.
Without a doubt, this one. Compiled from source daily, with added custom fixes, tweaks, and testing.
Many of the other people just repost as is, and don't actually test it.

Help with ROM/Kernel

Well, I'm sure this topic has be chewed thousands of times and then chewed again a thousand times more...
So I apologize for that in advance.
But I'm looking for a ROM for my OPO that I will settle with. And the Kernel which works best with it.
I was originally on CM11s (stock) and then tried a lot of different ones during the last few months. I'm currently running MAHDI ROM because it gave me a lot of features which have been interesting enough at the beginning but which I realistically don't need anymore. At least not most of them. And the main reason I don't wanna stay with MAHDI is the amount of crashes I'm having lately with almost any app I'm using including 'Contacts' which crashes often when I just answer the phone call. The phone restarts on it's own, volume bars are all messed up etc. So to sum up, I want to change.
Oxygen OS is not the one I'd like due to the lack of features. I don't need much features that MAHDI offers but I still need some which Oxygen OS does not provide. At all.
I'm planning to change to CM12 (official) and stay there. However, I've heard plenty of bad reviews regarding stability issues, battery extensive drain and some others. How legit are all those reviews? Is it all facts or it's selective like most of the issues users report? Mentioning CM12, I've heard that certain Kernels fix most of the issues, especially the stability ones and the battery drain issue. Please note that battery is quite important to me. I was quite happy with CM11s, not so much with MAHDI but then again, it's not awful. Which kernel works best with CM12 regarding stability and battery life?
Or there are better ROMs than CM12 regarding stability and battery life while not lacking in features?
Again, I know there have been plenty of topics and posts about it but I'd like some help here as I can't dig through thousands of topics and millions of posts to find the proper answer I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance.
There's a ROM review thread here:

My personal favourite is Exodus though. The only reason I'm not on it right now is because it isn't at 5.1 yet (although they say the update is coming in the next days). You don't need a custom kernel with Exodus, the stock kernel performs really well. It's packed full of great features, it's original development too which means it isn't just cherry-picked features. Plus there's a new feature being implemented called Morph that they say is going to be incredible.

Alright, thanks.
Then I'll wait for the 5.1 version of Exodus and try it out. Which is the best place/topic to follow in order to get notified when it comes out?

If I get the 5.0.2 version now... could I just update to the 5.1 version or I'll have to flash it again once it comes out?

I guess I'll wait for the 5.1 version then.

So I would like some ROM Opinions.

Hey boys and girls! It's been a bit of awhile since I've posted. I've had my Tmobile Note 5 since the day of release and I've loved this phone ever since day 1! As of right now Im currently running a Sky High kernel and N5 Express. Unfortunately my Note 5's time has come and I've pre ordered the S8 Plus, so I'll just be pretty much using it more or less as a personal media device or maybe for bluetooth lol. I understand that each developer here has their own purpose to each and every ROM but I just sorta want some info from some of you people in the T-Mobile section. What are you running? Why do you prefer it? I know how to flash so I don't really need any assistance in that. Shoot. I've been customizing phones ever since the PPC6700 . Your opinions are much appreciated!
Hi mate, my 2 cents here, I have been using darkstalker rom for a while, it's a stock based rom with all the bells and whistles that you would expect from a custom rom.. Its becoming outdated but I use it mainly for the stability, I hadn't a single crash since I installed it, impressive.. I wouldn't mind an update though, but the developer is no longer updating it. Just my 2 cents..

I'm currently on Khongloi's S8 Nougat and its running pretty good. the issues that was in v4 have been worked out in v5. There's also an issue with Titanium Backup not seeing that your phone is rooted but there's a fix for that as well. I have been using it for a few days and I must say, I'm very impressed with the ROM. Once Nougat comes out to our phones (any day now......) then development will open up again.
Sounds good
Hey your input is much appreciated and I will definitely play with the Darth Stalker! I like the amount of customization as well!

Very nice I will have to mess around with that S8 rom too! Makes me stoked for my new one to come . I appreciate the information and I look forward to taking a part into that development aswell!
I was formerly using Darthstalker, but I've since moved to Nemesis Rom for some hands on with Nougat. While I like the rom itself I miss the full range of customization that Darthstalker has. The closest thing that I've seen in terms of customization is NN8 Rom but I've yet to get call audio working on it.
