[Solved] ND2 to NE5 Question - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All..
Just bought a used S5 yesterday. It was rooted and running ND2.
I replaced whatever recovery was on it (didnt recognize it) with Philz. No problem. Then I downloaded an installed @CNexus Stock NE5 rom. Again, no problem.
It then struck me that this didn't include the modem... just the ROM...
So question #1... can I flash just the modem? Is it available someplace? I've tried searching and cannot find it.
Question #2... I notice that my software version says G900PVPU1AND2, but my Build # is KOT49H.G900PVPU1ANE5.
So now I'm slighly confused as to whether I'm running ND2 or NE5... something seems out of whack here.
Can someone clarify? Thanks.

Modem can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53548814.
Software version is the modem version, yeah I know odd term for the modem.

[Q] What exacly does ucla3 means?

Tried searching the forums, google and couldn't find any helpful info.
From what I managed to scrap it's a new band or modem that comes with 2.3.6 but I'm not sure at all.
Any clarification will be great.
Ya its just the new modem that samsung released with their latest ota update to 2.3.6

So should I flash a rom that supports it and flash it as well? Is it a lot better then the 2.3.5 modem?

[Q] How to update baseband/radio/modem

Hi everyone,
My verizon galaxy s3 right now has a baseband of I535VRLHE.
First I was wondering which baseband is most recent, I have heard of MB1, MF1, etc. I know where to get these software updates but I have not found out how to actually update the baseband. Right now, I am jumping between many roms but as of this moment I am on an unofficial cm 10.1 build. They suggest getting on MF1 modem, but I really have no idea how do it.
Thanks for the help,
PS: I looked for quite a while so please don't tell me to keep looking or something like that.

Flash in recovery, baseband updates are always in alphabetical order, most recent is mf1.

Do I need to wipe anything for flashing it? Also, its ok to flash baseband updates with a custom rom installed?
And these will make my radios stronger, and thus my signal stronger?\
Thanks

What modem do you guys suggest flashing to. Right now I am on I535VRLHE and by my understanding that is extremely outdated. So just to make sure again no wiping anything, no formatting, no anything? And I should be flashing an update in either twrp or cwm? I know these questions sound stupid when I said I flash roms daily, but I really do not want to risk bricking my beloved s3 hahaha.
Thanks for taking your time to help me.
from what i understand the modem that works best for you will depend mostly on location. they might get better as they update, but i get teh same signal on the latest as I did on a modem from a few updates ago.
you can download the all in one packages here
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34053-firmware-vrbmf1-modemrpmtzsbl-verizon-sgs3-sch-i535/
reboot into recovery, then flash, reboot back to the ROM. if youre worried, make a backup. things can always go wrong i guess.
Ok thank you again, another question haha sorry. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313&page=6 In this thread, the first few pages say to flash via odin and what not none of them confirm being able to flash through recovery. Have you ever flashed a radio through recovery?
Also what advantages does an AIO have compared to just the modem.

[Q] i535vrucnc1 Modem

I have found an zip installer that could be used to install the modem though CWM for an older version. Is there such a think for the newest version?

I don't believe there is a separate modem file for NC1 yet. At least not one I have seen.
Has there been any new developments with extracting the modem from this firmware? I'm running CM11 on the ML1 modem and I've had 4g connection issues. The release info for the NC1 says it improves connection issues so of like to try it.

Apparently this version of the firmware was released for Telus/Koodo/Bell/Virgin on Sept 29 per SamMobile. I would assume that a Rogers version should be release shortly.
I have a Telus I337M but waiting for some feedback prior to flashing. I am currently on VLUFNE1 bootloader running UMUFNI1 modem.
Yes, I'm on NI1 as well, thanks

The modem definitely works with Rogers.
The NI2 rom has all Canadian GSM carriers and quite a few more carriers. By default it flashes Bell. I tried Telus and then stick with Fido.

Working well, no improvements compared to UMUFNI1 or UMUFNE3. The dBm readings are about the same, but at least this is the official Canadian modem.

if not better is it stable-er?
Im on a 337m that I picked up used and was on ne1.
So anyway I gave it a few days on stock- cell n data worked fine. Im actually getting up to 15 mbps on wind, wow. Tried goldfinger rom by ibastid and great but lacking some stuff I was used to like the tw refusing to rotate. Tried hyperdrive and wow feature rich. but I lose signal every now n then or upon a reboot. Like randomly once a day or so, toggling flight mode gets it back instantly. But modem issue yall think? Dont know if there is something I can tweak in ktoonzez
Loosing signal every so often, that's because your on wind network. I used to be o. Wind network as well and had this issue. Went away after switching to Rogers.
Rogers/Fido firmware was also updated last night. Basically they are all the same, though.

Can not enable WiFi
I have rooted Fido Samsung Galaxy S4. Today I have updated it to NI2 firmware using Kies3.
When update finished, my modem was still showing NE1 and WiFi did not work.
I flashed NI2 model file (from the first post) using Odin.
Now both Firmware and baseband version show NI2, however WiFi is still disabled and I can not get it to work.
Already tried to to reflash NI2 modem with Odin for a few times, but it does not solve the problem.
Could someone please help me to solve this issue ?
Thanks!
Why would u update using kies?

I had the same problem after upgrade. Here is what I did.
Odin the full rom. Downgrade modem following the website:
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2014/09/To...-and-Note3-Android-4.4.2-NF-or-Later.html?m=1
Root phone with TowelRoot. Install SuperSu and twrp recovery. Odin back NI2 modem. Install a customized kernel. I tested Adam and Alucard working on wifi.
Note: you will probably have to turn off Smart Connect to keep wifi staying. Try it first before you start to Odin the stock firmware.
Good luck.

Thanks! In the end I just backed everything up with Titanium and did hard reset and then restore. Now WiFi works.

All I've read online is that Google Play Services have been updated. And this Play Services update really does a number on the battery life. I haven't installed it yet, can't seem to find much info about this update.

Flashed XtrestoLite, can't hear/be heard in call

So after solving many problems during flashing, I finally got a 100% clean perfect install working of XtrestoLite MM working on g920w8. Only one problem left, there's no sound in call, but audio works fine taking/playing back a video. phone is a week old, no hardware defects. Is there something Obvious I may have missed?
-xtreStoLite 6.0.1 root enabled
- samsung s6 g920w8
- xposed
-viperFX
- stock kernel
- knox 0x1
- not sure what bootloader/modem is on it but didn't change it manually, maybe its for LP or maybe XtreStoLite flashes newer MM compatible versions
No, ROM doesn't flash BL/modem, the instructions are very specific about verifying those prior to installation.
My suggestion is to flash latest Bell 6.0.1 stock ROM with Odin, which will give you the latest BL/modem, then flash XtreStoLite again.

I'll give it a try. Will the Bell ROM work on this phone? its from Rogers. could I not flash just the bl/modem by themselves? I went back to stock through kies recovery mode when it was bootlooping, and it put me back on lollipop, and in about phone it said "up to date"
The ones in post #5 are older than the new ROM. Rogers hasn't released it yet, but you can flash any Canadian ROM without issue. Plus, you're going to clobber it right away with XtreStoLite.

absolutely, like a million times since I had so many issues getting it to work at first. I just wasn't sure what you were referring to at first. I'll take another look.
Never had this much trouble with my htc. I guess things were simpler back then.
EDIT: I checked it out, you're right, they're about 2 weeks older than the rom, but the dev linked them, so shouldn't they work? they say they're for 6.0.1, and still only a couple months old right now.
Slow download. I'm gonna come back to it tomorrow. thanks for your time!
Either way will work, but you'll have less heartache installing the stock ROM first. Good luck.

I tried your suggestion today, and it successfully flashed, but its just stuck on the bootscreen. flashed twrp back on and restored my backup but still no sound in call.
EDIT: Ah stupid me. I didn't realize twrp backs up and restores modem on samsung phones, on htc it was never in the list. trying again.
- Still nada. restoring through kies again to rogers 5.1.1
-I gave up, went back to stock. oh well. thanks anyways
All you had to do was flash the call audio fix and the arter kernel and you would've been set.

It's not in the aroma packages, it's a separate zip file you have to download.
And depending on the rom or the rom base, you're going to need arter kernel or another kernel that was tested to be 100% compatible with The 920T/920W8 models--rom makers will list whether their roms were tested with these models--otherwise the fix won't work.
I don't remember if the default Xtres kernel will work with the fix or not since it's been awhile, but there's no reason to not try it out. Either the stock kernel will work or arters kernel will definitely work.

I found the fix for both LP and MM so I went with marshmallow, but for some reason it wouldn't boot after my restore in twrp. I tried flashing the arter kernel, but it bootlooped. I eventually gave up, so I tried LP and that worked, so I stuck with it. all problems fixed now. Thanks guys!
I didn't mention call audio fix, as it's included in newer XtreStoLite builds, so unnecessary. As long as a MM BL/modem are on the phone, there should be no reason for the patch.

Did you do a restore in TWRP? -groan- That's likely the reason for your problems in MM. And why it worked in LP.
If you're game, restore using Titanium Backup. There's a setting for restoring across ROMs, and you can restore only needed data (apps should be re-installed and not restored).
