Which Base do you prefer? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Was curious if anyone noticed a difference between the latest 1.54xxx international base vs the 1.55xxx Verizon base. Are there any notables?

I've run most of the "big name" ROMS both international and vzw based and I haven't noticed any notable diffs

I have switched back and fourth several times and haven't really noticed anything to speak of. Probably just minor bug/security fixes in the Verizon build but I haven't noticed a single feature changed or performance difference.

New Cyanogenmod 10 M series (Discussion)

http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-10-m1
Something we have learned over the past few months is that if you don’t release, someone else will do it for you. Since we are open-source, we absolutely encourage it! Unfortunately, the quality of unofficial builds can vary, and we are serious about quality. Of course nightlies are always available, but we realized that having something that is a bit more stable on a more frequent basis is important. Starting now, we are rolling out our M-Series releases. M-Series builds will be done at the beginning of every month. We did a soft freeze of the codebase for the last week, blocking new features in order to stabilize. Our plan is to continue this (assuming that the response is good) up until stable release, and onward.
We aren’t exactly sure what M stands for. “Monthly”, “milestone”, or perhaps “MINE ALL MINE!”. Whatever it is, I hope that we are meeting the needs of community.
M-Series builds will be available under the EXPERIMENTAL tag. The filename will include the date stamp as well as the M version. These builds should be stable enough for daily use, and we encourage feedback and bug reports.
Tonight’s M1 build is available for these devices:
Galaxy Nexus GSM (maguro)
Galaxy Nexus VZW (toro)
Galaxy Nexus Sprint (toroplus)
Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G (i9100g)
Galaxy S (galaxysmtd)
Galaxy S B (galaxysbmtd)
Captivate (captivatemtd)
Galaxy S3 Sprint (d2spr)
Galaxy S3 VZW (d2vzw)
Galaxy S3 AT&T (d2att)
Galaxy S3 TMO (d2tmo)
Galaxy S3 US Cellular (d2usc)
Nexus S (crespo)
Nexus S 4G (crespo4g)
Galaxy Note AT&T (quincyatt)
Google Nexus 7 (grouper)
Sony Xperia Acro S (hikari)
Sony Xperia S (nozomi)
In standard CM style, we will continue to add devices as time goes on up until our stable release.
Head over to Get.CM to grab the latest build for your device. Installation instructions and other documentation can always be found at the CM Wiki and help is always close at hand over on our official forums.
Happy flashing!

This is interesting, will try. I do wonder if this differs much from other available builds we have except now it will be frozen for a month. Presumably those cleanups have already appeared in other builds? Maybe someone more knowledgeable about how that works can say. I do think it's a good idea.

Hmm. Interesting and I think it's a great idea but looking at the builds the experimental M1 and the latest nightly look to be the same size. Maybe it's supposed to be this way?

Well unfortunately I can't run AOSP as a stable DD until the RIL is fixed :/ I know it's being worked on. But I'm constantly in a 3/4G area

thanks for the linkage, updated OP in Official Cm thread although I feel someone should branch off a M1 discussion thread as it will very greatly from the Official Nightly and the UnOfficial Nightly builds.

If someone cares to maintain the M1 thread and starts it let me know and I will link to it from the Nightly thread

Anyone know how to get the volume of either the monthly or nightly releases to work?
I don't mean the regular volume, I mean when recording video the volume is almost non-existent. It's very frustrating and I can't seem to find a fix, every AOSP ROM I've tried here is the same story as far as that.
I can record fine on a TW ROM so I know it's not a hardware problem.
Anyone else try the m1 yet? Any other issues besides data and volume while video recording? I've been waiting for a release candidate but it looks like this is the closest thing for a while so I wanna flash but still nervous cause I'm a noob ):

Thanks for talking about the 3g issue, I appreciate the roms everyone is making and modding but I think they need to tone down the mods that are trivial and concentrate on more major bugs. So ya I'd prefer fixing dropping 3g every 5 minutes to fixing a blue tooth bug that only happens when the third moon of Jupiter lines up with Plutos dark side of the planet during a tornado. Can't wait to try this rom

CM10 M1
Flashed CM10 M1 3 days ago, came from Synergy 1.7 ICS ROM and have the latest radio VRLG1. Did a clean wipe and restored Apps w/Data using Titanium Backup.
All seems to working fantastic, great speed and smoothness to this ROM, battery life seem as good as stock or Synergy. Haven't noticed any data issues, volume on phone calls is good.
Minor issues, after flashing had to reboot twice to get past data activiation, and Trebuchet seem to have a little problem and kept closing. Load Nova as my launcher (it was my launcher on Synergy) and have had no issues since.
Yea I mentioned in official release thread my impressions but in case anyone is following this..I've had excellent experience. No real errors to speak of. It's a true stable build for me. Love it.

[Q] Google Play Edition HTC One Mini

Has anyone tried to use the Google Play Edition RUU for the HTC One (posted here) on their HTC One Mini? The hardware looks similar enough that I'd think it would work. I'm not sure if the lack of NFC is an issue.
Context:
I am a noob to both this forum and Android. I am ready to make the switch, but I want a vanilla Android experience; I'm just not a fan of the Sense UI from what I've been able to play with. I also value smaller, lighter devices, and the HTC One Mini feels perfect to me. I'm an experienced technologist, I've jailbroken iPhones (admittedly less complicated), and I've been a tester for prototype devices at a mobile company I'd prefer not to name (more complicated), so I feel absolutely comfortable with the process of rooting a phone like this. I also value OTA updates, so a Google Play Edition is exactly what I'm looking for.
Any thoughts or suggestions on the subject would be appreciated. I've already gotten several ideas from other posts here. I do apologize if this has already been answered, but I did search and am pretty confident it hasn't been directly addressed.
No, don't do that. Especially not the RUU since that does more than just installing a stock rom.

Google Play Edition RUU is recompiled from source nothing to do with Sense 5 and that's mean different kernel that won't boot the HTC One Mini.
You have to wait for an CyanogenMOD available and after that if you don't like it we can build/port AOSP (pure google android).

That's incorrect, the GE rom is actually just visually desensed Sense and can be booted with a Sense 5 kernel. It's nowhere close to being AOSP.

That makes good sense to me and, in theory, means the Google Play Edition ROM could boot on the mini since the hardware of the same architecture. I think the question is whether the same drivers can be used for the other internals. In other words, we could be able to boot the OS but be unable to use any of the components.
GSM Arena has the full tech specs of the HTC One and the Mini. When I compare these, I see a GPU that, according to Adreno wikipedia article, supports the same OpenGL, OpenVX, and DirectX versions, so I think this would be fine. The chipsets are slightly different and that worries me a bit since that could imply different radios, etc. I'd feel better if I could see a teardown of the mini, but with how miserable the teardown of the full sized version was I doubt they're clamoring to start that.

Correct. And....ohai!
The partition layout is completely different as are the kernel base and ramdisk offsets. If you flash that RUU...you may be heading back to the AT&T store immediately afterwards.
I have most of the prep work completed for cm-10.2....so sit tight while I work out some kinks. I will make a thread in the original android dev forums once its ready for alpha testing.

Really?? So the One users can switch from GE to Sense without flashing kernel? No atleast ramdisk changes nothing?
So if we port a m7 sense 5 we can also port GE in the same way?
That doesn't mean we can also base a CM on sense 5 kernel?

Yes. And this is how I was able to port sense to the First so easily. HTC's "AOSP" roms are purely Sense roms with specific apks replaced with AOSP apks. In 4.2+ a lot of changes need to be made to kernel to boot AOSP. Those changes won't necessarily be compatible with sense

I would not install any CM-based ROM (CM/Candy*/PacMan/whatever) on M4 until the overheat issue is dealt with. They all have reports of bricked devices, and it looks like any device can (or will, eventually) get cooked any moment sooner or later (some people got theirs bricked after half a year, mine was lost within half an hour).
In the meantime, bilal_liberty has created a LibertyROM GPE for M4!
GPE is Sense-based and thus safe to install.
* EDIT: According to tr1gg3r84, CandyROM is not CM-based.

I'm very sorry if that is the case, then I must be mistaken for another ROM; there were a bunch involved in this issue.
But no reports does not mean it has not happened. As far as I know CandyRom is CM-based *, and overheating issue affects all CM-based ROMs the same. Not sure what makes CandyRom different in that aspect. *
Once again, it may happen or it may not. You can either see it as a lottery or a ticking time bomb. Either way, I better go with the ROM that just does not have that possibility by design.

Yeah get your facts correct before you post Candy Roms isn't even Cyanogen based like the rest you stated and no bricks have been made by using this ROM either. For a GPE I have a booting GPE over Six month ago before I got rid of my M4 with the help from rmbq with kernel but ever release it coz thought it was pointless.

Yeah well I should know what I'm on about, after supporting this device for so long before anyone even cared about developing for it....(well there's a lot of so called (Devs) that like to spread rumors about other ROMs to increase their user base) pretty much sick to death of it tbh. New HTC One M8 user

I'm currently still using my Galaxy S3 with Verizon. Since it's been a while that I had an HTC (OG Incredible) I wanted to get back. It was between this and the LG G3. I ordered this from SWAPPA and it comes rooted with s-off and the HK audio modification. Since there is an abundance of information I would prefer to just ask questions instead of reading all of the pages on the forum my main question is how does CyanogenMod and generally AOSP ROMs run on this phone? Should I just stick with CleanRom?
Thanks.

GPE Rom. Been running it for about a week now. No issues at all. Some are reporting camera lag, but I haven't noticed any.
CM is still on nightlies I believe, but it seems pretty stable from what everyone is posting.
If you want a closer to stock experience, stick with CleanRom. I had that from Day 1 and not one issue showed up.

Compatible ROMs from AT&T forum?

I didn't see a thread for this (unless I'm blind, which is partially true). I saw a post somewhere linking to the Dirty Unicorn ROM in the ATT gs3 section and saw that they had loads of roms. I simply wondered how compatible some of these were with the vzwS3 before I just started flashing away... Or maybe there is a list somewhere I failed to see?
That reminds me...
On my samsung galaxy nexus I used to use a script called rom switcher (or something like that) that allowed you to flash lets say a sprint rom on a gsm phone or a verizon rom on sprint and so on. Without the need for porting.
However I'm not sure if something like this would be applicable to the s3 because of bootloader differences (nexus is unlocked ofc) and other possible hardware issues. Samsung uses unified architecture on gnexus (kernel level at least) across all three platforms. So I'm guessing the same applies to the s3 and if so that wouldn't be a problem in itself so I think the only real major issues would come from the bootloader.
If there are any devs or someone with more knowldge than i who want to see the script just let me know and I'll see if I can get a link to the thread it's in the galaxy nexus apps and themes section.
Anyway just an idea that may be helpful to at least those who are not locked down.

Thanks for the response! Luckily I'm not locked which is exactly why I was curious. My friend just got a Galaxy S4 i337 and I rooted/safestrapped it for him but in the process noticed lots of Verizon and Sprint roms floating around which got me curious. There's gotta be someone here with said experience right?
Perhaps you could enlist the aid of mohammed.afaneh, shapesblue, prdog or mikeman?
All those guys are good people and always helping around the forums.
I've only had the s3 for a couple months (coming from a Galaxy Nexus r.i.p.) and locked on 4.3 when I got it so not really comfortable experimenting with things just yet. But basically the script just changes some very basic things like build.prop and updater script for example but it worked very well in my experience.

Ports are usually only problamatic with calls and messaging. You have to use Verizon modem and maybe even RIL cause ATT don't have CDMA. Biggest problem is you need Verizon kernel which we don't have.

Alright, thanks. It's a shame that companies overcomplicate things and can't all just see eye to eye. Oh well such is life. Maybe one day, when the world is taken over by Google, the world will be a happier place and things will be more simple.

Most of the AOSP ROMs for the S3 that are still being actively developed have moved to putting out one unified build that works on all US variants of the S3. They will use the tag [D2LTE] in the thread title to note that. [D2VZW] is the Verizon version of the phone. So you can use ROMs that advertise compatibility with either D2LTE or D2VZW. The only problem is that as you've seen, since development for the S3 was, for a long time, specific to each carrier's model, the various D2LTE ROMs are kind of spread around among the various forums for each individual S3 model. The LiquidSmooth thread in the AT&T forum, for example, seems to be the only one that gets updated anymore, even though that ROM is built for D2LTE now and works fine on the Verizon S3. Task650's AOKP build runs fine on our phones too and can be found in the AT&T S3 forum.
If you search all forums for the tag [D2LTE], that's a decent way to get an idea of what's out there now.
ETA: I left out something which I hope you know by now: your bootloader needs to be unlocked to use anything with a D2LTE tag. If you took either the Android 4.3 or 4.4.2 updates from Verizon and locked your bootloader, you're out of luck.

Thanks a lot for the tips. From my time at this forum I had kind of put two and two together and assumed that was what the tags stood for. I hadn't thought of using those tags for searching, though. And luckily I got my S3 last year when I did because my bootloader wasn't locked. And just days later I believe they released that dirty OTA

Current G3 D850 ROMS geared towards signal / reception performance

Hi im really new to this site and have been having problems getting consistent signal on my G3 D850 for calls. Is anyone aware of any recent custom roms that are geared towards signal / reception performance? I came across one called SPECTRUM but it seems this project was abandoned about a year ago. Would it still be logical to use that rom or can anyone suggest one? Ive been putting up with this issue since i bought the phone 4 months ago or so and its really starting to get to me. I can text and use data fine but when it comes to making or receiving calls i want to throw the thing out the window.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help with this!
For best reception use 100% stock firmware. That's about as best as it gets.

The 7.1 build of the N&N rom was by far the best signal I (and others) ever saw for the D850. Nothing came close, and while it is no longer developed it's still a solid choice.

This confuses me so much. Why does this particular ROM have increased reception? Moreover, why does it only have increased reception up to the 7.1 version, and then the 8.0 and 10.0 seem to tank it?
Is there a different modem involved? can it be installed elsewhere on other roms?

Not the faintest idea, and no one really knows. Much has been speculated, from build.prop tweaks (not it) to system libs and files (most likely).
