Desperately need WiFi tethering, Towelrooted. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Sup guys,
Just rooted my GS3 via Towelroot. I've been searching the forums for any info at all and came up short. Does anyone know of a good tethering app and more importantly the correct settings so I can start tethering. Thanks in advance.

Yes wifi tether router app, it's working with 4.3 and 4.4 kitkat.

Xposed x tether module will make the stock WiFi tether app work and not check for permission of having the paid plan. I'm using it with no problems

So if I install the Xposed Installer and the X Tether Module on my rooted 4.4.2 VZW SGS3, the stock tether app will work even if I haven't subscribed to VZW's Mobile Hotspot?

Correct! I just did had my tablet tethered that way for 2 hours going to the beach and back last weekend worked great!

I just did this yesterday. It took 5 app installations and about ten minutes of time.
Install and run towelroot
Install and run SuperSU
Restart Phone
Install and run Root Checker Basic
Install Xposed Installer (Xposed Framework)
Install Xposed X tether then run Xposed Installer
Xposed X tether and Framework trick Verizon Software into thinking you are subscribed.
Restart and enjoy. :good:

This apk works for me very well, and I don't even pay for WiFi hotspot.

I am also very interested in this... I have a thread of my own about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25926585#post25926585. I dont have a working solution currently, the Wifi Tether app does not work properly with my laptop.
Use this app WiFi Tether for Root Users
In the settings change the following -
Profile - > Generic ICS
Setup Method - Netd (master)
and enjoy tethering =)

Is there an easy way to temporarily disable root?

A live TV app from my cable provider seems to be crashing on rooted system and only runs on non-rooted devices.
I am running ARHD and of course am rooted. Is there an easy way, lets say an app that can disable/enable root on the fly? I have heard of such an method for the S3 where you could disable root and it would be automatically rooted again on a reboot.
Thanks

You can disable root in Superuser. I saw this "trick" at androidworld.nl. It seems the solution. I hope it works for you, then it will work for me either.
You have also root keeper in tne market. Work nice for unroot temperally
Thanks guys, turning off super user in the super user app does the trick for me!

I was looking for this for a long time. So simple ... Thanks.
Hi guys I'd like to know if there has been any developments in this since the upgrade to4.3 and 4.4 superSU no longer has the ability to turn off root and the voodoo app only works on 4.2 or less.
Thanks in advance

Anyone know how to remove the lockscreen security while using this? The "try a wrong password 5-10 times" thing doesn't work
Pretty sure because it's using VPN it will most likely require a pin.

Jeeab, when I was using this app on my Droid Razr HD it didn't even let me try that trick.. I did it over 75 times for good measure. Good luck getting it to work. But I am happy that I got my wifi back! YAY!

If you mean LG G2X then it's possible if you are running 2.3....
The app itself is Free. But the Key to unlock all abilities is $7.95.. Google is a powerful thing.
Worked for me! I have a non-rooted (obviously) stock 900V.
Thank you!

the only problem I have is, I got too used to unlock my phone using the fingerprint scanner and in order to use this app, you need to disable that and unlock with a pin # but I am happy there is an option for tether for us still on unlimited data

Leo. Root your phone with @geohot Towelroot and then install Xposed and X Tether. Native app FTW.
Use Android Device Manager
An easy way to get back fingerprint lock is to use the android device manager to disable the lockscreen lock outs. You also have to install the certificate first and do not remove it or you will have to do this again.

Found another quicker way to do this:
1. Goto google.com/android/devicemanager and locate your phone.
2. Click "Lock" and chose a new number password.
3. Type the new password on your phone and it will unlock.
4. Now it should let your change the lockscreen to anything, and foxfi will continue to work
Still working after restarting phone and using Foxfi

Chromecast Mirroring with Rooted MAXX 4.2.2

Hi guys,
Iam trying to get the screen mirroring enabled on myAXX but it turns out that the Mirror Enabler app only works on KitKat. I am not willing to give up my root access since alot of my daily apps use it. What options do i have?
PS: I have disabled the apps on the droid that are used for OTA updates.
Thanks for reading.
Regards.

I think as far as full display mirroring goes, you're outta luck.
A lot of third party apps can mirror content (photos, videos, audio, etc) to a Chromecast on any +4.0 device.
Also, you are aware that there is a root method for 4.4 right? (not the latest ota, and still not compatible with the mirroring)
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193
That worked on my rooted max, should work on yours. I'm on 4.4.4 rooted and unlocked bootloader. I would imagine it works on all as long as you have root.
If not mistaken due to build prop data being changed with out WP being disabled you lose it working after reboot.
I can confirm full mirroring with audio does work with 4.4.4.
I too am unlocked and rooted.

True, if write protection is not disabled it would need to be ran again after reboot. But honestly, how often do people reboot their phones? Personally the only time I reboot mine is when installing an xposed module or something like that which requires reboot.
Thanks for the reply. I was sort of expecting that ..
With regards to the knowledge of a 4.4 update that retains root, no I wasn't aware of that. I've had a look in the forum and there doesn't seem to be any pros or cons related to this update so i'll be sticking with what i have working. Besides, nowhere does it say how to update to 4.4 while keeping root.

Thanks but my 4.2.2 version is what holding me back from using that method as it requires KitKat.

You can update to 4.4 19.5.3 and still retain full root and Wp off. That will put you in the same spot you are in now but with working cast. I made a guide for this wayy back when here it is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616104
Use that to a T and youll be fine.
Thanks for the info but didn't the 4.4 build have the potential to brick your phone? I vaguely recall moto pulling an update from ota, can't remember if it was 4.4 though. Furthermore, are there any issues with this build, reboots, poor battery, screen issues and the likes.
EDIT: Link about the 4.4 fiasco: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Moto...4.4-for-the-DROID-MAXX-ULTRA-and-Mini_id51357

I have applied that patch several times with no brick.
Thanks for confirming. I've followed the guide (excellent guide btw) and successfully upgraded to 4.4 with root.
Installed MirrorEnabler v4, though without success
FYI for anyone reading this.

That is odd. Which 4.4 build are you on? If 19.5.3 try it with 19.6.3. I don't use the app myself so I'm just guessing.
I do know with root on 4.4.4 it does work. Even though I am unlocked as long as you only do a soft reboot it should work. Not sure but it may need to have the update Chromecast app installed as well that has the cast screen option in the settings. Mirror app prior to v4 required sqlite root since it changes a value in the build prop if I remember right.
But I maybe of on that part been a bit since I did mine back on version 2 I think it was. Any how I do know the droid ultra and x line it does work.
If you still have issues I suggest you head you over to that thread for better detailed help it very active since the day it started those guys there are way more knowledgeable then I on that topic

I'm on 19.5.3. Will share some logs and tests with the MirrorEnabler author and wait for a reply.

I tried all versions with no success
Just confirmed latest version of Chromecast app in the store and noticed an updated "What's new" section saying that mirroring works from KitKat 4.4.2 MR1.
If I get the unlock code and successfully unlock my boot loader would I then be able to get 4.4.2 on my MAXX with root?
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Free mobile app
No 4.4.2 software for max unless it's a ROM. Latest is 4.4.4.
CC software for the phone is 1.7.4 to mirror. Had to get a down load from the other thread or in that section. Should be able to get it to mirror I would think before updating to 4.4.4.
To keep full root with w/p off you need to be unlocked and replace the recovery with a custom one if you goto to 4.4.4 at this time.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Still digging
Chromecast uses WebRTC to stream content using VP8 and H.264 video compression. Can't find any documentation with reference to VP8 encoding being supported by the MSM8960DT, the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, which is the same as the SoC found in the 2013 Nexus 7 (has official screen mirroring support).
One you unlock (correct me if I'm wrong, but I understood you are trying to get unlock code), you can OTA up to 4.4.4 or even install it via TWRP as I did and still have root. Enabler works on mine, 4.4.4 unlocked/rooted/wp off.

Thanks. Do you happen to remember if you updated from 19.5.3 directly to 4.4.4, and was it using stock recovery?

Hotspot on 6.0.1 MARSMALLOW WORKING

]Sprint galaxy note 4 i can confirm this sqlite editor goto last two lines data/data/android/protocol/telephony then to carriers then to data last two lines you want to edit (default, mms) to (default, mms, dun) this must be done on a rooted phone....I did it had to wait about ten minutes after edit don't know why however i rebooted and POW I HAVE NATIVE HOTSPOT HACKED AND UP AND RUINING CREDIT IS NOT MINE IT GOES TO THE PERSON WHO DID IT ON LOLLIPOP 5.1.1
Made the edits to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db. I could see dun added to the APN Settings (##DATA#), but all mobile data was lost. Multiple reboots, still no data. I connected to wifi and did a profile update. As expected, mobile connectivity is fixed, but dun was removed from the APN Settings. Waiting for somebody smarter than me to come up with a robust fix. I'm loving Marshmallow other than the loss of my hotspot.
What i did after i Rooted
Installed Root Checker
Installed BusyBox
Made sure I had Root
Installed GalxyTools (idoneapps)
And hit Enable Native Hotspot
Well, TX posted his deodexed TW 6.0.1 ROM and there is a flashable Hotspot zip in the second post for odexed or deodexed. I would say that using his fix is probably the safest way to go
