wifi calling issue: update profile adress does not take - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I keep getting notification saying "Service is on. Would you like to update your profile address."
And then I save my profile address, and then it pops up again a second later.
This notification is essentially always on.
Any clues??
I am on Sprint.

What do you mean the address does not take?
If it says "Service is on" that means it's on and working.
It's simply asking if you want to update your profile address, you don't have to click it.
Yes that notification is always on because they want you to be aware that if the address is wrong and you call 911 they go to wrong address.
If you for example use public wifi a lot many might have same name but different address. This is simply a reminder.
That's why it says "Would you like to.." and not "You must..."

email using wifi

I know this question was asked before because I read it myself. But when I searched back I cannot even find the question or the answer.
This is what I want to do: when I check my email/internet/etc. I want my phone to look for wifi. Right now the phone is checking 3G/Edge, even when I have my 3G off.
Again, I am sorry but it's way too much info and the search came up empty.
go through the settings your particular account in outlook and going to email setup and then advanced and then in the network conneection drop down change it to "the internet" or someting (which i assume would be activesync or wifi). I don't know if this will work or not. I usually keep mine on my data plan, so for me i choose "rogers internet" because when i hit send receive i want it to connect to my data plan to check the mail, you want opposite.
I am currently trying to get it so that outlook checks mail every 15 minutes only if I am on wifi, and if im not on wifi, no scheduled send/receive, but having a hrd time getting that to work.

[Q] Android: SMS messages come in blank as from "5556"

So I'm having a peculiar problem which doesn't appear to be specific to my model phone (which happens to be a Samsung Captivate).
I use Google Voice for my text messaging so I'm not sure when this started. But I'd like to be able to at least receive text messages that people try to send to my main number. But what happens now is that I see the message text appear in the notification part temporarily, but when I go into the stock SMS app all I see is a separate blank message from "5556" and always with a date of March 26 and a time of 12:19AM. The actual message doesn't appear anywhere but temporarily in the notification bar.
I've used APNdroid and QuickSettings in the past to disable 3G but leaving the "allow MMS" option checked. Neither is currently enabled but maybe they mess with settings somewhere?
And like I said, I have Google Voice installed too. Not sure what else could have messed with settings. My message center is set to "+13123149810".
I have been searching and saw these threads so it's not unique:
Nexus One: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8814554
HTC Desire: http://androidforums.com/desire-support-troubleshooting/192806-sms-mms-issue.html
No solution though. Any thoughts?
I am having the same problem with my aria. I thought it was an app that I downloaded. Anyone able to help?
What the heck!?
I am having the same problem on my Samsung Vibrant(T-Mobile). It started about a 10 days ago. At first I got both the message and a blank one from 5556 but now I am only seeing the message in the notification bar and then its gone. This is so aggravating!! Anybody got a cause for this???
Has anyone tried a factory reset? Does that fix it?
Bump?
Need more text... too short...
5556 Message not Unique to Android or Google Voice
Hello there,
I'm new around here, but just found xda due to receiving a 5556 message myself. I have an android device, but not phone; my cell is a cricket Kyocera, and I just received this message from "5556",
Want a family plan with the freedom to customize each line of service? Bring in an eligible phone, add a line for just $15 & get the 1st month free."

What is significant about this to your issue? Well I unsubscribed to Cricket's text messaged ads, so it looks like this is a way to anonymously advertise with some plausible deniability, or something like that. Perhaps it is an advertising service, a third party, or other...in any case it is definitely anonymous, being neither a number nor a name. : ( If any here have a message to present, it would be appreciated, for that the more details we have, the better to figuring out what is going on. (In my case, perhaps even filing a legal complaint with the relevant authorities under the relevant statutes.)
If annoying enough, one could always go to a lawyer to seek a subpoena of a cellular carrier's records to find the source of communications, btw. Note I say going to a lawyer because IANAL and do not intend to give legal advice: I'm just cranky about unwanted spam having sat on waiting to talk to someone by the phone on my desk all day.

SMS Google Hangouts

Every time I try to send a text message, weather its just a text message or a text message with a picture attachment it will not go threw. It just stills their, then either says "Failed to Send" or it says "Retrying" . So far I really find this new Hang outs rather annoying. Do you have to modify something in your phone settings for this to work? I'm on Tmobile. The person I am sending it to, has an Iphone 5 and is on Sprint.
Is your phone newly activated? How long has this persisted?

I also have the N5 on T-mobile. Earlier today i couldn't send any SMS to a person, nor reply to group threads. Maybe there was something with their servers? It was really aggravating me. I thought it was the phone.
Are your APN settings incorrect? If they are, your picture messages will never go thru properly because of improper phone setup. I had this issue until I realized I had mistyped a character in the APN settings. Once I corrected it, everything worked fine.

"Unable to download MMS..."

I keep getting this message: "Unable to download MMS. Check your APN settings and tap to reload."
I'm using ChompSMS, if that matters, but I don't see any MMS if I go into other apps, such as the default Messages app.
Any ideas?
Maybe you shouldn't download the MMS at all since its a common way to get infected by the stagefright bug
That's a fair assessment, but when my wife is sitting right next to me and says, "Check out the picture I just sent you," and it's telling me that it can't download an MMS, I don't think she's trying to hack my phone.
Ah, well then. I had a chat with Sprint who had me "Update Profile" under my system settings, and now all is working properly.
Go to your network provider and request for settings and enter it manually.

Messaging App

Can someone please tell me step by step how the heck one does a group chat on this phone??
Well, you need to open the app > tap on three dots in the upper right > settings > advanced > group messaging > click the toggle for "Send an MMS reply to all recipients (group MMS)"
Then when one person replies to your original message everyone you sent it to will also get the reply. [[Remember though to turn this off if you do not want everyone to see all the replies because this can load up everyone's texts with numerous replies.]]
Then just add as many contacts as you want/need to the message you are creating and then send it.

Hi Thanks for getting back to me. I tried looking for the three dots but I don't have them when I open the messaging app directly.
I'm on OREO by the way. When I go to Messenger on the App info setting I see the three dots but when I hit it all I get is Uninstall updates.
I just went to settings, Network & Internet then internet settings DL settings for internet and MMS message says "Your device will now connect to the intenet for quick setup of internet and MMS services
I accept I see that something is DL but I can't find it. Where the heck is the DL folder. Is it asking me to set this feature up??
Ok so now it says set up complete. Now what??
O so I just restarted the phone. I now have the three dots but under advanced I don't see a group messaging tab
Still don't get it!

Hey Jaseman Please bear with me I'm coming from a Galaxy Note 3. When I go to my message app it does allow me to start a group conversation. When I pick my contacts for the message I want to send it does this but then it say where the message wil go " Each recipient will get an SMS message from you. Replies will appear in individual conversations"
That's not what I'm after. I want to send a group message with all contacts being able to see what everyone in the group is responding. Is this still possible??

OK...wow...I see that you are working your way through things and getting closer.....
Now then, you need to open the app ((NOT the app in the settings menu for the phone itself...but the actual messaging app itself)) > tap on three dots in the upper right > settings > advanced > group messaging (right at the very top, tap on the words themselves) now another smaller window will open > click the toggle for "Send an MMS reply to all recipients (group MMS)"
Then when one person replies to your original message everyone you sent it to will also get the reply. [[Remember though to turn this off if you do not want everyone to see all the replies because this can load up everyone's texts with numerous replies.]]

Try again and make sure you are in the correct place.
Please KUDO if I was able to help!!
Still A No Go

Hey Jaseman thanks for your patience but I am following your instructions and I do not have group messaging under settings > advanced
This is what I do have after I open Messaging APP and touch three dots
Settings>Advanced and then my choices in order of appearance
Auto-download MMS
Auto-Download MMS when roaming
Use simple characters
Get SMS delivery reports
SIM Card Messages
Phone number
I was on the phone with T-Mobile and they were dumbfounded as well. Per them All my APN settings are in order. They actually brought up the specs to this phone to see if they were missing something. They mentioned that most folks are using Textra because they can't get the messaging app to work via MMS. When I try to send a text or picture to a group the MMS arrow appears and when I press it states
" go to settings and change your group messaging setting to group MMS" Yes I know this but I do not have group MMS . T-Mobile sent me to Sony Support and they couldn't figure out why I don't have the MMS Group under advanced either and recommended I reset the phone. Look I just installed a bunch of apps and transferred over my music and books from my note 3 so I am not in the mood to reset the phone yet again. I actually got the TEXTRA app and it seems to be working just fine so I disabled the messaging app. I just need to know if it's the APP or my phone.
Well, that is certainly strange! I used Textra for a long time and it does work great. I just like to use the default apps when I can if they do what I need and the default messaging app does do everything I need.
Here is a screenshot of what mine looks like...
Sorry I was not able to help...well actually what I said was correct but I have no idea why this feature would be missing from your phone???
So when you look at the screenshot I have attached here...yours does not look like this?
I also use T-Mobile. So all of your network settings are correct?
Let's make sure...
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > tap on "Internet Settings" and a popup for Internet Settings says..."Your device will now connect to the internet for quick setup of internet and MMS services" and you tap on ACCEPT.
Then you should see a brief message saying "Download Started".
Then back on the original screen, up above Internet Settings is "Mobile network" and it says T-Mobile???
Tap on T-Mobile and at the bottom of the next window is "Service providers"...tap on this and you can choose either "Search networks", or "Automatic". If you choose Automatic you should get the message that you have been registered on the network. If you choose Search Networks it will disable your data temporarily and take a few minutes to find the network. Then you will have several choices under Available Networks and you should choose the top one 4G T-Mobile...there should be a check mark next to it. If you tap it it will say registered on network.
Now after doing all of this check your default messaging app to see if it has the same thing as my screen shot...if not...then I guess you can just stick with Textra.

Followed your instructions and after tapping Available Networks T-Mobile LTE has the checkbox. Should it be T-Mobile 4G??
Daisy192, I had the same problem when I first got my XZ Premium. The pre-installed messaging app did not include Group Messaging in the settings just like you described. I don't know why to this day. In fact, I started a thread here about it when I first got the device.
I ended up installing other SMS/MMS apps from the Play Store to get by. None of them met my needs perfectly.
Then at some point, the setting appeared when I randomly checked. I don't know what caused it to appear there but since appearing it hasn't left.
There have been a number of "Carrier Services" updates from the Play Store that I've installed over time. The description of these updates is along the lines of improved carrier features when using the stock messaging app. So maybe that's what eventually enabled the Group MMS feature.
BTW, I'm on AT&T in the USA.

LTE is fine.
I happen to have the Customized UK version. I purchased it from the UK so that the fingerprint scanner would work without having to flash anything.
I figured that the UK speaks English the same as we do here in the US and that this would make all the features work without having to do risky stuff.
Now the US version...which I believe is what you have...should say LTE, whereas the UK version says 4G...they are exactly the same thing!
Also, the US version I believe has 5 signal bars in the notification area whereas the UK version only has 4.
The number of bars is irrelevant because the OEM's can manipulate them to look great in a bad signal area thereby deceiving the end user.
The real test is what your dBm signal strength is at any given time.
Anyway, I see you got a response from someone who also had this issue and it magically fixed itself...hmmm.
Maybe after some more updates from the Play Store over time it will do the same for you. You can always check now and then.
Until it does fix itself I guess you can continue to use Textra. You will get used to it and going back to the default messaging app may be too hard to handle anyway.
Yeah seems to be a real conundrum!
Jaden and my phone is the international dual Sim version. I wanted a working fingerprint scanner too.
I will continue to check to see if it mysteriously pops up
Hey Experts today I'm going to bite the bullet and reset my phone with the Xperia Companion. Besides the main issue of not having the MMS Group setting on my Messaging APP, I am having an issue sending video to a group even though I'm using the Textra app. I am able to attached a GiF, Photo or anything else but video will not send. Yesterday I used Movie creator for the first time and created a short 19 second video compiled of a few photos. I hit share and chose the Textra app and it proceeded to send the video but then I kept getting notification that it was unable to send. After trying several times I decided to enable the Default Messages App to see if it would send video to just one person and nothing. All I got was a message that it was 'SENDING" When I awoke this morning it was still "Sending". I have my brand new Canon SL2 set up to work via Wi-Fi with my XZ Premium. I can take video and pictures, edit and do just about anything without touching the camera but I was also unable to share the one video I shot with the Textra App. Am I doing something wrong? Will The Companion fix these issues?? Is there a limit to how long a video can be when using either Textra or The Message App. Is it my Carrier T-Mobile issue?? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate.
There is a limit on the size of the file you can send over MMS and it is rather small compared to the average video file.
Hey jaseman yes was able to finally figure it out. Reset with Xperia companion went smoothly but still no sign of mms group under advance settings. I was able to tweak settings in text rather app to 100 and legacy this allows me to send video via mms
