How to preserve gear 2 backup when flashing different roms - Samsung Gear 2

So before I flash a rom I backup my gear watch via gear manager, however everytime I go back into gear manager, after flashing a new rom, and I repair the device and it pairs, then forces me to reset my watch. After I do and go to restore/backup, my backup doesn't appear. Anyway to keep my gear properly backed up? Thanks

Does no one flash different roms that has a gear 2?

I flash Roms fairly often on my Note 3 (mostly for upgrades, or to try to remove weird problems), but I haven't come across a decent way to back up my Gear 2. I just roll with it, and when I get my watch re-paired, I go into Sammy Apps under the Purchased section, and reload my apps through that. It functions like an 'all apps ever installed' list, which saves a little time. I haven't had luck with TiBu or similar services - the phone says the apps will be installed, but they won't be on the watch. Wish I had a better answer for you.

Thanks

Damn if only there was a titanium backup for the gear

[Q] Pairing More than one Gear Watch to your Phone Without Resetting Every Time?

Hopefully someone here can answer this question. I am pretty sure I have a "Smart Watch Addiction". I love my Samsung Gear watch (original) as well as my new Gear 2 and I have a NEO as-well. WHY??? Well I keep the original because I like the build quality and the Android options on the original, I like the Orange Neo I just picked up for the color and the Gear 2 is just cool with the metal and new placement of the camera and speaker. And I don't know about the rest of you but after using a smart watch for awhile it is really hard to go back to a regular watch once you get used to the notifications. So now to my question: When I want to switch from one watch to the other I power off the first watch which is currently connected. Once it shuts down I power on the watch I want to currently connect with. Once it is powered up I open up gear manager and it shows no watch is currently connected. If I tap the top of the screen it has a "+" and it says the current gear will be disconnected. I am ok with that since I am wanting to connect to the other gear...I hit ok and then it shows currently paired devices in gear manger. I see all 3 watches listed. If I tap say the orange Neo it will show a message: Your Gear will be reset to the factory default settings. All the settings and downloaded applications data related to your gear will be deleted and the Gear will be reconnected to the mobile device. If I touch "OK" it proceeds to totally erase the watch I am trying to connect to and it does eventually connect but takes over 5 minutes. I tried unparing the device first and made it visible then searched for new devices and it finds the watch but once again want to reset it. Does anyone know a way to basically swap between multiple gear watches without resetting the watch each time? I have tried uninstalling gear manager and reinstalling I have rebooted both devices. I have a Note 3. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
Wow. I just asked the same thing before seeing this post. I bought two Neos in different colors and have the same problem. If you let it reset the watch it will then offer to restore it from backup, which it does, but not everything gets restored and you have to find and redownload everything that is missing. Then more often than not, it hangs up at the end of the restore and you have to reboot the watch. Takes an hour to go from my black one to my orange one. Aarrgggh.

Try factory resetting your watch, rebooting your phone, and checking again. Make sure that your galaxy app has updated and your phone is updated to the latest software os
I too can't find it in the app store.
Does anyone have a link to the most recent version's apk? It worked great for me with tizenmod 3.0

yup, did all that and then some. Still doesnt show in the samsung app store
I've reverted to this gear manager from July, seems to be working fine with notifications. I'd still like the most recent working apk, I think it was from october. obviously the new update broke something, so they're in the process of fixing it and releasing another update (at this point, gear manager is not in the galaxy app store)

whoa, awesome! I'll probably run with the July build, for now anyway. seems fine. let me know how your device turns out.
I got the update yesterday. Post update gear manager crashes on clicking settings. So much for QA by samsung.
Embarrassing for them.

When the gear manager wants to update, bring up the task list and swipe it away. Launch it again and it won't ask to update.

just a heads up, I uninstalled it again today and it showed in the app store and I reinstalled it and its back to working like normal. There is now an emergency notification system built in to the watch and the settings are in that menu.
I've been having the same problems. Firsrgear manager was crashing when trying to open settings. Then it wouldn't open at all. I uninstalled and reinstalled complete with full wipe and still nothing. I used the other build that someone provided a few posts back and that works for now. But now I'm noticing that the other watch face apps I use (MW and WS) have disappeared from the app store. Had anyone else noticed this?
Side question. I'm new to the gear 2, just purchased last week. If I was to reroot the gear and find an MW apk, is there a way to side load the MW apk without using the phone but still have the phone recognize it?
Newer Version makes it worse.
How do you keep the old version running when the warning box forces you to install the newest crap version that won't allow the connection? Mine is a brand new Black Friday Gear 2 Neo that was working fine at first, then wouldn't hold the connection. Now it won't connect at all. December update? I downloaded an older version and got them to connect, had everything connecting with the old version and then my phone got commandeered and the newest version just installed.

I kept the old version from this post:

I keep cancelling the notification to upgrade and it's fine.

Thanks for the thought. I spent 3 hours a couple of nights ago with a nice Samsung tech who tried everything and then admitted he had had 4 calls that day from people whose Gear 2 would not connect to their phone after the latest (December 1, 2014) update. So in spite of all the updates, Samsung keeps making things worse instead of better.
The idea of swiping it off hasn't worked for me on my Note 3. But I have developed a workaround (not a solution) similar to the Ipse_Tase suggestion just above. I downloaded a really old version of Gear Manager at http://www.mediafire.com/download/yo17ta4qyrx50zj/GearManager1_2.apk , installed it, paired the device to the watch, and a connection was established. If you try to actually open the old Gear Manager after the pairing you will get a threatening warning screen saying they're going to delete everything from your Gear 2. But if you just leave the Gear Manager open and running with the warning screen on (don't click cancel or OK), use the phone normally with Gear Manager running, you can use the pre-installed Samsung programs on the watch. If I click cancel the Gear Manager closes and I have to start over. You can turn off automatic updates in the Galaxy App Store, but you'll still get the threatening message that they're going to hard reset your Gear 2. Just leave the message on the screen, let the program run, and use whatever other programs you want to on the phone.
Advantages: Your Gear is not a brick or just a time piece. You are paired. You're not hard resetting the device or trying to pair and connect all the time. You have access to Schedule, Notifications, Weather, Phone functions, S Voice, anything Samsung-based. You can control any app that can be adjusted from the watch itself.
Disadvantages: You can't change or adjust any app that would have to be done from the phone. Third party apps don't work because you can't use the Galaxy App store to get them or install/run them.
But it's better than nothing until Samsung gets its act together and provides an update that actually improves things rather than bricking your watch.
Has anyone found a way to actually use an older version of Gear Manager to download apps, manage the watch, etc. since all the recent updates seem to cut off the bluetooth connection?
Fluke Recovery
I decided to try to install the newest Samsung update to Gear Manager one more time--just to get a log to send to Samsung. Cleared Bluetooth pairing, uninstalled everything, reinstalled newest version. Failed several times, then finally paired, then finally ran through the bootup process and I am now connected and reinstalling programs, pictures, etc. on the Gear 2 Neo. We'll see how long this lasts. I'll keep you posted. For now, I'm illogically hopeful.

Bad news. Back to square 1. The newest (December 1) update to Gear Manager is no good for Gear 2 Neo with Galaxy Note 3. It will pair and you can get a brief bluetooth connection from the watch to the phone, and sometimes even from the phone to the watch. But it disappears after about 60 seconds. I'm sure it's the Gear Manager update. You can get certain apps to work during the brief periods of connection, but you can't do any settings from the phone, or use the Gear App store through the Gear Manager.
Does anyone know a way to uninstall or bypass the current new version of Gear Manager and install an older version alongside it? If I uninstall it I have learned from bad experience that it will hard reset the watch and I will lose all the time I have spent (3-4x in the last 3-4 days) setting it up. And worst of all, it will delete all Gear Apps that I have paid for from the phone, and I will have to reinstall them whenever I get a connection, and set them all up again.
Workaround
As I was suggesting last night, the best workaround I can come up with is still to install the older version (linked above) by APK, and then leave the warning message running. This way you can get a steady bluetooth connection for as long as you need it, and you can operate all Samsung apps and some 3rd party apps too. You can't, however, use the Gear Manager. You can only make changes/adjustments that can be done from the watch. But it's better than nothing until Samsung gets its act together.

Just FYI, I got the same setup as you and out of curiosity I DID update Gear Manager (now called Samsung Gear) to get a fully functional S Health (also updated)...seems to be working fine so far. Even Watch Styler still works.
Sounds like I should try it

Thanks for this tip. I think you mean that you went ahead and ran the update on the new version (December 1?). Or do you mean you ran an update on the older version I mention above? I'd like to try it to see if they've gotten rid of the bug. Are you saying everything seems to be working fine and your phone updated acceptably?

Also curious about how long you have been running the new update. It worked for me for about 12 hours--then would not connect after that....

[Q] Waiting for confirmation from Gear Manager...

Recently, my wife bought me a Samsung Gear 2. The main reason I wanted this device was to root it and have features like Nova launcher and web browsing at my wrist. Well. I search numerous sites and videos about how to root my device, and I was successful. The problem is that the rooted version I have isn't compatible with the one and only rom i found. And in my ignorance, I reset my Gear 2 with the new rooted firmware. Now, when i try and start my Gear 2 from scratch, I can make it as far pairing to my Note 3. Then, it says something about "Waiting for confirmation from Gear Manager". And it won't go any further on the watch or the phone. The page it takes me to in my phone is the backup and restore page. I've hit the next button with "restore" ticked and without. It wont go forward and my watch just sits there with the mentioned message and a rotating dial.
Does the fact that I don't have Gear Manager (I have the updated Samsung Gear app) have something to do with it? Or is it that I the rooted firmware? Or both?
When I unboxed it, i updated the Gear Manager and everything worked fine. That's why I'm thinking it is the firmware, and I messed up by resetting the watch after rooting.
I looked up how to unroot my Gear 2, but i keep getting lead to pages with firmware lists (none of which have a United States option to download and run through Odin.
I really hope it's just my being a novice here.
Please tell me my wife didn't just spend a couple hundred dollars on a new Gear 2 that I managed to ruin in two days.
HELP!
thanks
dbh
The US firmware is listed as Cellular South on Sammobile. Use that firmware.
I kept messing with it and finally got it to work. Thanks!

Gear S2 classic stopped connecting to phone

So, I have an Gear S2 Classic, been woking fine, but, I had not been using it for about a week, so it was all drained from battery, so before I went back to work I recharged it back to full, powered it back up, put it on my wrist, and went to work. didn't think much of it, but a bit later I noticed that I didn't get any notifications, and I checked the watch, and saw the symbol that it wasn't connected.
booted up the app and it couldn't find the watch, checked bluetooth, it was on, etc.
So to make a long story short, I have tried:
Rebooting the phone and watch.
re-installing gear app and accesory service app.
turing on and off bluetooth both on watch and phone.
and last I did now was trying to factory reset the watch.
Install an older versions of gear and accessory service apps.
(this resulted in that I can't use my watch anymore because I can not pair it)
Everytime I enter the Gear app and choose to connect to my Gear S2 I get a "News message" (Not warning or error) saying "Can not download, please try again" and I can choose Cancel or Ok, were Ok just give me the same crap and Cancel closes the app.
I have never had this problem before. im using an HTC 10. the only thing that happened wile I was not using the watch for a week was the 28:th of Nov update for the Accessory Service app. but I have tried going back to Junes version and it still can't pair with my phone anymore, even tho the phone can find the watch.
So anyone have any ideas of what I can do? or do I just have a 300$ watch to put on the shelf? ^^

2: turn off bluetooth, and restart the phone
3: install tha apps I've linked

- Accessory service (Samsung Accessory Service 3.0.24_160630.apk)
- S-Health (S Health 5.3.1.0005.apk)
4: factory reset Gear s2
5: when it wants to connect, turn on bluetooth on phone, start Gear Manager and follow the connect / setup instructions.
6: profit
here is the link

1: did you unpair the watch in bluetooth settings before try to connect it? i you didnt, give it a shot.
2: dont you have a TWRP backup or Titanium backup of these apps and data from the time when it was worked?
if you have, you can give it a shot too
In my case, when stopped working because the gear app update, i
- did a twrp backup from the actual system&data
- restored the full rom from a previous nandroid backup (created when the watch was worked),
- backed up the working combo with TiBu
- restored the actual nandroid backup
- restored the working gear apps, and data too.
if you have a working nandroid backup too, you can try this. If you dont have, send me a pm, and will try to send you my titanium files

My bad it was July version, but still a little newer. can be found on Here
(And a little update) I reflashed my HTC 10 last night, did a full stock wipe and new install with Android N, and now the Samsung apps works with latest versions and everything is ok.
the only downside I have found before I updated my phone was a massive battery drain on the Gear S2 after I updated it's software and got it working with my phone. went from 100% to 20% in 5h laying on my bedside table.
So gonna see if the reinstall and new software on my phone will solve the Gear S2 drain.

Restoring old backup to new watch

Ok, so first post here, and I see from some others that I’m not alone with a few of the glitchy aspects of the software: like the moody wake-up wrist flick thing. After trying all resets etc., I backed up my Gear Sport, went and exchanged it for a new one, and now would like to restore that old backup to the new watch.
Yet, I get stuck on a frozen restore screen that simply tells me that it’s lookijg for backup data and that it may take awhile.... after quite the awhile, nada. Am I missing something? Can that old backup not port to a new watch? I mean it’s not the end of the world, as I cane reinstall the apps and such, but one would think that data would be portable and not tethered to a serial number or something .... right?
Right?
Thanks everyone.
Did you use the setting on the watch that asks if you are connecting to a new phone or did you just disconnect and try to pair? If the former it should find your back up in the cloud. I have found that if I force stop the gear app and clear cache the back up/restore feature would work for me
