LG G3 ROM Port? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I only have some very basic knowledge on ROM porting but with the Sense 6 port for the Nexus 5 it was ported over to the LG G2 with very minimal hiccups (except for the ones present on the N5). Now there is a LG G3 ROM for the LG G2, and now I am wondering if we can reverse the project to get an LG UI from the G3 (ported to the G2) on the Nexus 5.
If we could it would be awesome

The Sense 6 port didn't get far enough to be anywhere near daily driver capable.
Porting the LG G3 firmware to the Nexus 5 is different/"harder" compared to porting it to the LG G2.

I am meaning that there was this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo.../port-nexsense-sense-6-0-wifi-fix-m8-t2703397) for the Nexus 5, that was ported to the G2 with minimal effort here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734246). So I am asking if it would be possible to reverse the process and port this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788077) to the Nexus 5.

Its still different and what I said previously still stands.
Also, reading that thread, it seems a little silly as they're just copying it from the Nexus 5 with minimal changes to get it to boot lol.. No real development in that thread.

So could we not copy it from the LG G2, and make minimal changes to get a G3 port to boot, with no real development? Or am I just very slow and completely misinterpreting this.

You could, but it would be a very crippled port, just like the Sense 6 port.

Why would it be like that though, because the Sense 6 port of a port required a modification to some minor things and what wasn't working on the N5 didn't work on the G3, so wouldn't it be the same. Everything is working, so everything would be working?

Unfortunately that isn't the case, the thread is being spammed just like the Sense 6 port was, because of bugs.

Dude you need to build Sense or the G3 ROM from the source which is not available like it would be from Google.

It isnt possible the developer would have to rewrite the whole code. The only reason their able to port the z xperia's is it was written in open source. Lg g2 is through korea's smart sense crap

Sense 3.0

Is anyone ever going to port a Sense 3.0 rom for the g2x? I've been really wanting to try it lately
NOOB ALERT

If they did it would probaly lag pretty bad since sense is a resource whore. Still i'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to see 1 made for our devices.
OMG I love sense

Sense doesn't make...
Sense would be a huge undertaking for the g2x. HTC sense runs propriety drivers and frameworks. Written to work on HTC hardware. Since the g2x and almost any HTC devices have very little in common that means writing drivers to get it to work. Although not impossible (think hd2 which shared alot of hardware with native Android/HTC phones) it's a huge undertaking and highly unlikely.

When i had the g2 they ported sense 3.0 to it. Watching the progress of them getting it up and running, it was a HUGE undertaking. Took a huge tightly integrated team and HOURS UPON HOURS UPON HOURS X 20 to get it to work. Our dev community just isn't active enough to undertake something like that sorry

The G2 was an HTC-Made device... It had a snapdragon processor as well, just like any other HTC Phone.
HTC Sense has been ported to the Galaxy S Devices before, so it IS still possible on Tegra 2 devices.

G2 is the HTC vision in Europe where it was released with sense, should
of made it a little easier to port the latest sense to it. As far as sense on the g2x never said it wasn't possible, just said it would be a huge undertaking.

I would pitch in at least 10$ for someone to port sense 3.0, anyone else?

man i dont care to give $20+ if they make a sense 3.0 or 3.5 or LG OVERLAY on the g2x that works good stable. just so we can have another choice of flashing roms that are not stock gingerbread. most of all the roms we have are like that.
If and when I have time I would like to try. I don't care about the money, I can't receive it right now anyway. I just want sense. If you guys want LG UI I think that it wouldn't be too hard, so I'll do that first.
go ahead man were 100% pulling for you
Ya that would be awesome, go ahead and try it

Say what? The G2 and Desire Z are virtually the same exact phone and sense was ported to it quicker then you can blink! All they did was change the partitions and remove various apps so sense could fit on the G2's much smaller boot partition.
I'm not trying to imply that the devs did no work, and I for one could never have done it. But, it wasn't thaaaaaat big of a deal. Just sayin'

Do you think it would be possible to base the port off of ports to other Tegra phones?

True, but missing one important fact. Both of those phones are htc phones. HTC sense is has it's own custom framework written for htc phones. Much easier than porting it to a non htc phone. (Not saying it can't be done, but don't dismiss it so fast. )

[REQUEST] LG MyTouch Q system dump / LG touchwiz 2.3 port maybe?

I see that there is a new LG phone on tmobile, and it runs LG touchwiz. Ive always wanted to get the good old LG touchwiz running full speed on my G2x but never seen a rom. What do you guys think???
There are so many things wrong with this... besides the fact the development forum is not a request board...
First. The MyTouch Q is not even similar in the least to the G2X... different arhitecture. If we wanted something similar with LG Framework, that would be the Optimus 2x.
Second. It isn't LG Touchwiz. No such thing exists.

they both use touchwiz
MTQ uses a Snapdragon while this is Tegra, so it's completely different and won't work. Plus, it's just an LG skinned ROM. Not TouchWiz at all. If you compare actual TouchWiz with LG's MTQ ROM you'll see they're completely different.
Samsung is the one to invent touchwiz on their galaxy series. LG UI is what you are refering too, and as someone said, the best chance we have at getting it is through Optimus 2x on AT&T/Rogers/Fido
Try this

JBOXER was trying to get the LG UI from the optimus 2x gb ota and everything worked fine other than we couldnt get any cellular signal even though we did have our original baseband. he and others had tried to get this pass but with no luck at all. it does looks beautiful on our g2x i really hope the devs can get pass this issue.

That's more progress than I was able to make porting a P999 gb rom.... I never got past bootloops. Maybe if I could get that far I would be able to get it working... Has to be possible.

Port from LG UI when time comes?

When LG finally decides to release KitKat for the G2, will anyone be interested in working on a port? I think that LG UI will get a major makeover in 4.4 and it would be nice to experience it on N5.
The LG UI 4.1.2 port from the LGOG to the N4 sort of came in, sputtered and died. Don't know if it was from lack of time, lack of interest or something else.

The whole reason for a nexus phone is that it doesn't have their custom crappy UI.
Never saw any ports coming to nexus 4. I doubt will see any coming to nexus 5.

Features (a question)

My friend and I was having a discussion on the Nexus 5 against other smart phones in the current market, and we got on to the discussion on to its features that it has and what other phones don't. I know the nexus 5 was designed with Google in mind but as my friend mentioned I believe you can link your Google up with other phones as well? Or is this Nexus 5 feature? Or are do some features exist on the Nexus 5 that are not available on any other smart phone (android related) through a download?
Cheers

the nexus 5 isnt a phone made for special features to try and sell it. its more or less a developers phone. i guess it has 2 "features" that other android phones dont have. first is hdr+(but other phones have hdr, hdr+ is just better). and the second one is the important one, one that all nexus phones come with that others do not, fastboot oem unlock.

I suppose we can also say Photsphere (although there are other versions of this) and GEL (Even though GPE devices get this).
You also get Android system updates instantly.

Yes and no. Not necessarily for root users. We do see commits fixing bugs in AOSP before a Nexus gets a release. So sure, we get the quickest full releases of official updates but some stuff, aosp users on all devices will get before standard n5 users.
I didn't realise this until recently. There was a bug with the window manager on stock where floating windows would not float over other windows. I moved to aosp to get the fix as i was sick of waiting.
Nexus mainly only gets full version releases 4.4.1, 4.4.2 etc but AOSP gets commits that don't increment the version. One benefit of OEM can be as they release fixes for their crappy frameworks, they can also pull fixes from google whilst we're waiting for a new version

so, it sounds like, most of these "features" of the nexus 5 are more like the benefits of owning a nexus 5

[Q] Nexus 5 vs Lg G2

Hello, I have been through a terrible doubt. Next week I will buy my new phone. I currently have a Nexus 4 because I always liked the modifications and custom roms.
As I have not much money, so I need to choose between Nexus 5 16Gb version and the G2 version of 32 Gb
I realize that the G2 has
- Better Camera
- Better Battery
- Better Screen
- Double of the Storage
And the Nexus 5 has been more fluid in 3d games videos in youtube, despite worsening in the benchmarks, and has more roms and ability to receive new system designs such as Ubuntu and Sailfish
It's worth leaving all these points better in the G2 for the stability and roms of the Nexus 5?
Thanks (Sorry for the bad english)
G2 is a great phone, you will not go wrong
Nexus 5 BRO!
PRESS THE THANK BUTTON IF YOU THINK I HELPED
Let's see what other users think of this. A balanced opinion will be best to help others as well. In my case, I'm using LG G2. It's an awesome phone downright. But now, I feel like getting a Nexus 5 coz I believe it's easier to root & to flash custom roms plus there are plenty of support in the forum. G2 is easy to root but can also easily get into eternal bootloop, even if you've done everything right.
But again, G2 is a solid phone if you are a normal user who doesn't care about updates and rooting and flashing custom roms and such.
Or, I could easily go back to Samsung phones as those happen to be the easiest to root & to flash custom rom.
