[Q] Get rid of stock voice dialer!!!!!! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been searching the internet off and on for a month or so, and haven't found any solutions: How to get rid of the Google voice dialer that launches when the general Bluetooth button is pushed, or replace it with Google now. You CAN'T just freeze it because it IS NOT an app, so please don't suggest it. I'm running c-rom v7.0 (android 4.4.3) I don't see ANY reason Google still is using the voice dialer, not Google now that can do so much more, I'm willing to try almost anything as I'm finding this increasingly irritating. Remember, it is NOT an app so I can't freeze it or uninstall it. The Bluetooth device is not important as I've seen the same problem for all kinds of Bluetooth's, I'm talking about the general call button found on almost all bluetooth's and some earbuds/headphones.

[Q] Has anyone tried any of the leaked Nexus 5 apps?

Wondering if anyone tried any of these on AOSP 4.3.1 roms on the s3 yet? if so are they running right?
I've been using Hangouts for about an hour. Its working fine so far with texts, I haven't sent MMS yet.
I'm fairly certain I installed the newest Google keyboard but I can't tell since everything looks the same as when I last used Google keyboard a couple months back.

ok so far I have tried and got working:
Google Play Services (Install first for some of the new apps to work)
Hangouts (MMS does work, only with data connection on)
Keep,
Google Search (but it took away my dark slim theme)
Gmail would not install. Kept saying app not installed.
Still wondering if the Camera and Gallery apps are worth trying. I can't afford to have my camera messed up right now. Taking a ton of Halloween pics.
Play Service, Search and Hangouts working on TW 4.1.2.
The cool part about the camera is it doesn't replace your camera. You can try it and uninstall if it doesn't work.

If I've helped, please hit the thanks button
I would have rushed to install the new Hangouts app if it had supported Google Voice but since it doesn't I'm not in a rush. I'll just wait for the eventual updates through Play. Based on the 'warnings' to app developers who do VOIP etc with Google Voice I suspect that come next Spring we'll finally see Google Voice / Hangouts integration.
The app I really wanted to work was search. The current play store version is garbage. Constantly searching without results. I now use my browser exclusively. The N5 search app force closes when I press any key. Any ideas? I'm on Hyperdrive 16 with faux kernel.

MMS don't work to well on hangouts v2, I tried last night and it would send sometimes. It did take a long time to deliver when it did send.

I tried the MMS and it worked quite well. Still won't use hangout unless for video chats. Still curious about the camera and gallery. Any improvements?

If I may ask, what rom are you on? I know people had issues with Google now/search on Hyperdrive 16, as did I, but I fixed it with TiBu.

Nevermind. I ended up getting it to work. If anyone else has the issue, read the first couple comments in the OP article. Many people had it. Seems to be a language pack issue.

I've had a pretty solid day using Hangouts as my primary sms app. I've been moving too much at work to tell, but do you guys feel like Hangouts isn't vibrating or giving the notification ringtone at all? Again, just curious cuz I've heard rumblings before that Hangouts notifications aren't 100% reliable on AOSP.

On Bone Stock 3.4 hangouts, Gmail, camera, gallery, Google launcher, email, Google search, play store, all work no problem

Running the new launcher. Looks cool, logo's are bigger.
I followed these.
Swype to left and it's Google now. I don't see the point of a lot of screens, really digging the new layout.

Is anyone able to get the camera app to save the pictures to the sd card instead of internal memory. That is dumb if they don't let you change that.

KitKat Incompatible Apps?

I seem to be getting a few force closes on some apps Facebook, XDA app. Viper 4Android also doesn't seem to work? Anyone else have these issues?

Clearly, you need to wait for apps to be updated to KitKat before you can use certain apps. That's been the case for years now with new Android versions.

[Q] Google Hangout Issue

So, I personally don't have a Nexus 5, but I am asking this question on behalf of my friend.
I finally convinced him to make the switch from an iPhone to an Android device. Currently, he only has one issue. He is trying to transfer his texts from his iPhone to his Nexus 5, however, Google Hangouts continuously crashes during the process. He currently is using Go Sms without any issues, but would rather use Hangouts. Any input on what may be causing Hangouts to crash?

OK Google not launching Google now

Anyone else having a problem getting OK Google to launch gone now? It worked fine when I first bought the phone then stopped after a couple days. Then I rooted the phone and it started working again but then stopped after a couple days. I'm running stock rooted. I even cleared the data on the search app and it still didn't work.

I haven't changed the language and no I don't see the words but I used to see them.

It only works on US english.

It only works on US English but as the OP said, it did work before and he hasn't changed language so we can assume he is using US English.
It's an issue that I've seen crop up around XDA and Reddit and one I've had myself, so don't worry too much because I assume it'll be fixed in later builds. All that works for me is a reboot, then Google Now will detect 'OK Google' again. Try that.
"Ok Google" may disappear but feature is working
that's what is happening with me. I wiped the Launcher data twice to get back the "Ok Google" on the search bar
but it disappeared again and When I say okay google it works
A reboot definitely doesn't help. The only other time it came back was when I unlocked the bootloader and it wiped the device.

If the microphone on the "Google" search bar of the home screen is filled in, it is listening. If it is hollow (an outline of a microphone) then it's not listening.
Reasons it may not be listening:
A. An app has requested audio access (games, music, videos, camera, even if they're in the background). This is especially common with games that insist on running even when no longer visible. Swipe away the app(s) and the microphone will activate itself again.
B. Not set to US English.
C. Google Now isn't configured.
D. Hotword in Google Search settings is turned off.
Any of those reasons are common and considered normal functionality. If you can eliminate all of them then you're looking at something more in depth like ROM issues, broken hardware, etc.
The microphone is hollow.
A. It isn't a game or app because it doesn't fix with a reboot.
B it is set to us English
C gone now is configured
D hotword is turned on
I haven't changed any of the settings but I have double checked that the settings are correct. I read on Android police that other people are having problems with now but none of the problems are the same as mine.

Not sure if it'll work for you, but changing the language, back to home press the microphone and then changing it back to US seems to work for me.

I cleared the data on the search app which sucked because not only did it not fix the problem but it erased all my home screen app positions

I cant even activate Google Now cards! Also a lot of the settings are missing on the google search app. My language is set to US but i think google is blocking it here in my country
On my Note II i had it working fine!
The first picture is from clearing the cache and uninstalling all app updates. The second picture is the first page after activating Google now.

What do you mean you can't activate it?
Go to settings > accounts > google > search > and what do you see?

Have you tried turning Google Now off and then back on?
So opt-out and then back in?

WiFi+mobile data MMS issues

So. I have looked, And looked. Tried XDA, android central, Google search. No answers. Even called Google about this. I had an HTC incredible s before the n5 running 4.0.4. I would be connected to my WiFi. Mobile data would be off. I would send a MMS. Mobile data would turn on, send the MMS and turn off. All the while WiFi was still on. Now after some search it seems this was a code I'm the framework of sense ROMs. The phone was rooted and running mike1986 ROM. Awsome feature. Fast forward to today. N5 will not let me do this. My wife's moto x is the same issue. Now I understand this is not a huge deal to some but to have to turn off WiFi to send AND receive even the notification of an MMS is annoying. Is there any way to get around this? I have tried 8sms, and another app. Can't remember the name. No luck. Thanks guys!
No one?

@montrealer99 use textra does exactly that and can send sms and mms straight over wifi and it uses ur actual phone number
Thank you. Tried it today but still no luck. I find it hard to believe its so complicated for Google to fix this or at least add it as an option after 4.0
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So it seems that as a battery saving idea, mobile data gets turned off when WiFi is connected. Will not allow MMS to function.

Have you tried go SMS? My dad uses it & it has helped him.

Same thing. Now one person at my work has a n5 on a different carrier and it works. Another is on the same carrier as that person with a gs4 and it does not work. Both are running 4.4.2
