All the guys over at S4GRU are saying that the new 2.0.50.1.16 radio that came with the Android 4.4.4 update is holding onto LTE signals better than the .13 radio that came with 4.4.3, especially while driving and bouncing off towers left and right. I plan to go out later tonight and test it out. Has anyone done any tests yet? What kind of results are you having? Better? Worse? Discuss.
Yes with the 4.4.3 radio my LTE was dropping down to 3g at home because I have a weak signal here but it use to stay on LTE before 4.4.3.
Since flashing the 4.4.4 radio it has returned to before and staying on LTE.
Edit: I'm on T-Mobile not Sprint

Just checking to see if anyone else with an Inspire on AT&T has experienced a signal dropoff in the last two or three days. One day I'm pegged at 4 bars WCDMA, now I can't seem to get out of GPRS/Edge. Seems it coincides with the rollout of the update. Anyone else getting crappy reception in the last few days?
No good reception

Reception is all right for could always be better, still waiting for AT&T to get the 4g ball rolling
Folks, I'm looking for those of you who have had LOSS of signal in the last week. Please no "mine sucks" or "mine is ok" kind of posts, i only want to hear from those of you who have had a change.
Does anyone know how to check the status of AT&T's cell towers? Is there a website that will show where they are and what their operational condition is?
You can call att and tell them where you are. They will give you information on the towers in your area.

Signal is crappy, but hasn't changed in the last few days. You should call AT&T and check with them
Well, just as I was about to call AT&T to find out what the heck might be going on, I now see my signal is very strong again, but with UMTS as the network type, though I'm showing 3G in my notification bar.
So, is UMTS the new 4G network and they were just changing the tower over the past few days?
They have been updating towers all over...So to answer your original question, yes I have experienced some bad signal at times, but has returned to a good signal after they finished updating whatever they were working on....
WC
maybe this explains my many dropped calls in the last few days..

What are you showing for network type?
Actually it depends on where Im at in my house...i can move 15 ft and itll pick up an Edge signal....then switch to H+,which is still just 3G for now until LTE network is up and running...Ive only seen 3G once or twice since Ive had the phone...Also just a side note...Im on an unrooted, untampered with 1.84 ROM...Based on your posts, your rooted and using a custom ROM, issue may not be the phone or the towers, may be the ROM your using, unfortunately with the way ATT provisioned this software...you may have issues with certain things using custom ROMS....

I doubt that using the Custom Roms are the main issue. Many of the custom roms are using Stock Kernals and Radios. <- those are the two main contributing factors to cell strength and battery life.
I run MIUI on stock kernal now, with the new ATT Radio .26.06.06.30_M and have no issues. Denver CO Area and run full bars or -70 to -87 dcb at almost all times. Great download speeds.
Incorrect to a point....if provisioning isnt correct in the rom then there will be issues, att is trying to be slick in a lot of ways these days...

n yes im using the stock kernal n radio
Update: turns out they were working on the tower(s) in my area. Signal back to normal. Thanks for everyone's feedback.
this happened to me last month, and now today is happening again lol. seems like they are working on towers a lot recently in my area. if i go to another city i get full bar H constantly...oh wells hopefully they will finish all the tower work soon.
I live .7 miles from a 4G LTE tower and get full coverage on both my galaxy nexus devices and moto x. These are the screen shot of my new Nexus 5 the normal signal is on 4.4 and the horid is on 4.4.2. I have tried flashing three times all with same results. Or can I just flash the radio
or is this a OS issue.

Signals fluctuate often. Hard to pinpoint an issue just from a little bit of testing, though does seem odd. Can't say I'm shocked when I hear Sprint service not working well for some reason or another. You can try a different modem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514095
Its not a service issue its a device issue, I have tried two Nexus 5's and both have lousy signal and regain it when flashing back to 4.4.
It's was talked about quite a bit after 4.4.2 was launched that people were facing signal issues with the radio packed with 4.4.2. Some people flashed back to the 4.4 radio and reported improvement. Personally, I haven't seen a difference.
If you want you can flash the 4.4 radio and see if it improves your signal.
I just rooted and flashed the KRT16M and it made a huge improvment.
You can just flash the modem from 4.4 to use with 4.4.2. All the benefits of the updated firmware with the radio performance of the old modem.
I went to the .15 radio tonight and it seemed to help some. Plus remember the radio is a triband radio unlike your other two phones.

I updated my N5 to 4.4.3 through this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/flashable-stock-4-4-3-supersu-t2771010
could not wait for Google to update my N5.
My wife's N5 was updated through official ota.
We are both on TMobile. Same plan. Same zip code.
At home we use to have both LTE signal at 3 bars out of 4.
After the update I noticed this issue where both phones are connected to LTE but now we have 0 or 1 bar out of 4.
often I see No Network at all.
Changing to 3g or 2g will set the phone back on Edge or HSPA.
I think the new baseband messed it up.
Anyone else experiencing this issue on TMO with N5?
Any ideas?
Thanks
I noticed 0-2 bars of LTE at home but mine has always been like that.
i feel like i have less LTE bars than i did prior to the update. In some areas where I have always had LTE coverage, I have HSPA instead. At work I have less bars - I work very close to home (NYC, Manhattan) so i'm not sure if it a problem as a result of the update or service issues in the city - at least in my case.
Bars and signal strength are not necessarily related. The bar is just telling you what the software is interpreting, there have been tons of signal bar hacks that make it more or less accurate.
What I will say is that the LTE drops are something I've seen before even when I paradoxically had "full bars" on LTE only to suddenly have my phone not actually displaying a connection and then it would, after a moment, drop to H+.

Not to sound like a D1ck,But.(I feel your pain)...Finally someone else besides me having issues and I'm on sprint (insert jokes now)the same thing has happened to me my wife my dad my brother and his wife. All of our data handoffs from 3G/LTE hang.I/we have gotten worse LTE.You are not the only 1.I even adb fastbooted back to 4.4.2 to see if the difference is just in my head. It's not.4.4.2 gave me LTE back again.
I am thinking to flash back the previous baseband. Anyone reversed back to the old radio but staying with 4.4.3? I can tell you that the battery life is better with 4.4.3.

Are you seeing that the behavior of handoffs is different or are you losing your data connection more often than before?
I am also seeing emergency calls only in some places like my job, where previously I had 3 bar lte. But at home it stays with 0 to 1bar very unstable. I am convinced is the new base band. Tmo told me to do a switch from 3G back to lte in network settings. After that didn't work they told me to do a full reset to factory settings. Thinking to flash back to . 23 radio.

Hello all,
Sparse poster, long time lurker. I just upgraded my Nexus 5 (purchased from Google, on T-mobile) from 5.0.1 to 5.1 using the OTA link available from AndroidCentral and though no other problems have been found, I am having some trouble with the radio now. When I'm on a call now, the data connection drops from LTE to GPRS, showing the 'G' next to the signal strength icon. Before upgrading from 5.0.1, this would drop to HSPA ('H') at worst. I came to expect that the 5.1 update would enable VoLTE since I thought the N5 was capable of this and the upgrade enabled VoLTE on the N6 for a buddy of mine. Either way, I think GPRS is a pretty bad when I need a data connection while on a call.
I tried to reflash the bootloader, radio, boot and system img's manually and nothing changed. Any ideas? Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks!
hi, I encountered same issues with tmobile LTE after I sideload to android 5.1.

Tried downgrading to previous radio version?
I use kitkat radios on lollipop
I'm not having any problems with LTE. I'm on T-Mobile.

My stock 5.1 radio was very broken. Phone process froze, no deepsleep, losing connection and sim, people could not call me. Very bad.
Using 5.01 radio now, its much better.
My provider is Vodafone NL.
Hello everybody,
I am using a Nexus 5 for a full year now and I noticed from the beginning that I never can get 3G signal, but when I am in the nearest city I van get 4G/LTE. Last week I wanted tot know more about it so I inserted my sim into another phone and immediately I had full 3G connection. So I updated to 5.1.0 with the new radio for 5.1.0 and I still couldn't get 3G. When I googled for 3g coverance I noticed I shoud've get full 3G. however only 2G and 4G works but the problem is that there is no 4G coverance in my hometown so I am stuck at the slow 2G. I'm in the netherlands and I already tried all options in *#*#4636*#*# but I still dont get 3G. also my apn settings are correct. so my last hope is to ask here if anyone knows what to do. I'll include a picture of my baseband version etc.

If it doesn't work after clean flashing factory images and trying different radio versions, it might be a hardware problem.
It's sad because I don't have any warranty anymore because I've opened the device up to replace the screen myself. Do I need to change the whole motherboard?
