Ok so I made this thread just to get feed back and basically advice as to which phone I should get. I currently have an iphone 5s and having it was cool and everything but I def. miss the android side of things (not sure why iphones are so much more popular either honestly) and was thinking on getting the Z2 or the one plus. However I've been told that experia devices are a little tougher to root and flash custom roms on. Also Im not sure as to how much support experia devices would have as far as roms kernels and such. What do you guys think?
I'd go onePlus One. MUCH cheaper, stronger raw specs and CM 11s. Can't go wrong with that.
First of all , It is Xperia not Experia
And you should probably get the Xperia Z2
I am not saying that the Xperia Z2 is better but it is because The OnePlus One is only available through an invite system. This means that only people who received an invitation from one of their friends or from OnePlus will be able to buy the device. After buying the device, you will receive a number of invitations that you can send to friends interested in the OnePlus One.
Plus I think accessories and maintenance for the Xperia Z2 will always be much easier to find. so yup Go for the Xperia Z2.

Hello everyone!
So I've been a Nokia fan since forever and right now my main phone is a Nokia E71 which has served me well! However I got the upgrade bug and have wanted to upgrade it with a newer one. Thing is, I like QWERTY phones. In fact, I hoped that Nokia would offer an awesome Nokia Mango QWERTY phone... too bad none were presented (at least not yet.)
Anyway, while reading/searching I have a partial list that I would like your input on. They are:
1) htc desire z
2) Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro
3) LG Optimus Quantum C900
4) Dell Venue Pro
5) Samsung Sidekick 4G
As you can see, I don't mind if it's Android or Windows. I have a few nitpicks though. For example, 1) is the most expensive, 2) seems to have an "electrostatic" problem that ruins sound reproduction and videos! , 3) 4) not sure which of the 2 might be better but the Dell looks better ... and for the Sidekick, not sure if performance is on par with 1) and 2)...
So any help you can provide to his newb is welcomed!!
Thanks.!
If you want something powerful, there's Motorola Milestone 3 or Xperia Pro (without Mini).I personally preffer Xperia Pro, not so powerful, but sexy phone.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I guess budget is also an issue... (which is why I didn't list more expensive phones..).
I just don't want to spend too much since I pretty much know that I'll go crawling back to Nokia in a few months! ;-)
I'll take a look at the Xperia Pro though... Sony phones are sexy!! lol
Moved
Ooopsss.. Thanks!
So... yeah... the Xperia Pro (not mini) is kind of expensive as well
Probably will buy unlocked btw (not with any contract!) I guess I should have stated that earlier?
I would love the easiest to write too... I'm thinking of getting the Sidekick even though the camera
is not the best... But again, I'll listen to what you guys have to say!
Thanks!
So... decided on getting both the Sidekick 4G and the LG Optimus Quantum... let's see which one I enjoy the most...
Thanks.
Hi all
I was thinking about getting a Samsung Galaxy S II(the i9100 variant) but I found about the new Xperia S and the Xperia ion.
I've set my mind to the Xperia ion but I couldn't find an official release date for it(I've seen 30 March in some places but I don't think thats gonna happen)
Unless Samsung announces the Galaxy S 3 (or whatever its gonna be called) I'll be getting one of the Xperias. The differences between the S and the ion are not so big, so my question is, should i wait for the ion to come out or should I just get the S.
Any opinion will be appreciated.
BTW I'm currently in the US, so i need a North American release date/links etc.
Ion released is due to Q2.The Xperia S isn't already on official stores yet (I think, such as Amazon, Best Buy, Sony Style, etc). But you can get it on eBay.
Personally, I am not from US, so... But I like S more, due the screen size fit my small hands and the design, in my opinion is way more beautiful. But, in the end, it's up to you.

My Dad has and Xperia S and I know a few people with a SGSII, In my opinion the Xperia S is Just as quick if not faster, and has a great screen and camera... Just wait until the ROMS are released and It'll fly.

It's good to hear from people who actually used the phone, I was going to place an order for the Xperia S, i just didn't want to regret that after ion comes out. And if its as quick as the S II, its good for me. I'll probably go with the Xperia S if they don't announce an exact release date for the ion soon.
This topic can be closed/locked now, I placed an order on a Xperia S.

Good choise choosing Xperia S over GSII. I am an Xperia fan and currently using Arc S and it's really fast especially with customs ROMs and tweaks, I am waiting for the release of Ion to buy it. it's simply beautifull and stylish. Xperia UIs are great.
I have been locked into contracts forever and am finally in a couple of months out of contract and plan on purchasing a phone out of contract. I have had mixed experiences with rooting my phones and the ROMs for different models. With my next purchase I would like to pick a phone from a manufacturer that is easy to create stable ROMs and wanted your guys input.
One of the phones I had success with in the past was the original motorola droid and then moved to the xperia play which I couldnt do anything too without paying someone to unlock it, which I never did. I currently have the galaxy s and it seems ok for ROMs, though I read a G+ post from one of the XDA developers that stated samsung was difficult to work with and what they release for code and was a big pain to create ROMs from. He mentioned that Sony mobile was getting much better, but in the past I've leared to loathe Sony. At any rate what manufacturers are currently good to look at for root/romable phones? Also any thoughts on specific phones would be nice to look through.
Currently on my list is the nexus using walmarts sim cards, but am not opposed to looking at almost anything with any vendor. Unfortunately Tmobiles not in my area, because that seems like a good place for plans.
Thank you
I'm basically researching what phones will be easily rootable and will/have ROMs and is also a fully featured phone so I can use all the new tech that has come out lately. Thank you

Try something like Xperia Sola or GO but if you have a little more money buy Xperia Z ...Theese phones are good to customize as I have been trying and almost everything works...include custom kernels etc.
I have now Xperia Sola and I have set up new custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227059 currently waiting for V4 update but V3 works like a charm on it...no lags .. free to customize really good one. Maybe some HTC One will be good but I am fan of Sony
I disagree

I think the Sony Xperia Sola would be a poor choice, he is thinking about the nexus which is high end compared to the Sola, besides, the Sola is a pain to root (personal experience) while the nexus would by far be the most moddable and developer friendly device....

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been out for a very short period of time, and it already has root methods and custom ROMs, if you go for Samsung you won't be dissappointed...just choose your ROM carefully...starting out with the basic cyanogenMod is great....
BTW the Nexus is an awesome device!
P.S: Youtube would be your friend on how various devices can be customised
This is the sort of thing I'm nervous about http://www.geek.com/android/att-will-sell-the-galaxy-s4-with-a-locked-bootloader-1553657/
My old Xperia play had a locked bootloader.
Is there a place to look for best phones for putting mods on? it seems like such a crap shoot, I might decide on the S4 and then just by going through ATT I screw myself even though initially I think its just like the other vendors models.
-----
in reality I know my only safe choice is nexus, I just wish there was more out there.

Have you considered something not so mainstream like the Oppo find 5 ??
This is one great phone...see reviews and specs...
Also it has lots of development and capabilities...
BTW if the bootloader of the Samsung S4 is locked...developers will find various ways to unlock it....i don't think you should consider this also because of how the S4 is so popular...
Do your searches and studies...and i hope you make a good decision that you will be comfortable with....
I would be very interested in somthing like the oppo 5. Thanks for the heads up.
You really can't go wrong with the nexus.
The one is also available unlocked from htc.

So I-ve never had a Sony phone . So I have a few questions I-d love answered.
Im thinking of getting the z5 ultra next month and skipping the note 5.
a) do european sony phones usually get rooted ?
b) Is Selinux set to permissive ?
c) Do you get updates in a timely fashion ?
Thanks
a) if they're being used properly, yes.
b) with SELinux mode changer, yes.
c) depends on your favorite rom developer.
Take a look at the Z2 and Z3 forums and you'll see there's lots of great stuff by some very talented dev's.
c) If you prefer stock firmwares: My Z3c and my GFs Z3 recieved updates to newer versions of android before our old note 3's. Generally sony updates the Z range of phones quite quickly
Coming from a Note Edge to Xperia. Little help needed

I'm on a note edge now, my previous phone was an Xperia z1. I kinda miss it. I'm considering a z5 compact. Sometimes I like a big screen, other times I wish I had my z1. The microphone grill popped off and water got in it. I was awed by the note edge, i still like it.............. but I feel like I'd love to use a one handed device. The main thing holding me back is the snapdragon 810, if it was an 820, it would be a no brainer. Just wondering why what's your reason to upgrade as I'm in the same place. If I want a compact with an 820....I'll probably have to wait till next year this time since they generally come out every odd Xperia generation.
Hi
This is more of a general question, but this is as good place as any I guess.
I'm pretty much set on buying the Xperia z6 when it arrives and I'm curious whether there are AOSP roms usually available for The main xperia Z phones. I've heard Sony is pretty good to developers community so I was just wondering.
