Nexus 5 No Signal - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Afternoon, sitting with a dead nexus 5 in my possession, iv tried multiple things such as:
Going back to android 4.4, 4.4.2 and 4.4.3.
Tried radios from different versions
IMEI is still valid and not blacklisted
SIM works in other devices
Phone is able to scan for network
Phone has dbm values for antenna
Clearning Cache
Flashing custom rom and kernel.
Weird things happen such as: If i insert a new sim card the phone will connect to that sim card for about a minute then disconnects again.
Would the TOT file for my phone work in giving it a full factory reset or not using the LG Flash Tool.

Have the exact same problem. Just got my phone back from LG repair and it's still doing it so sending it back again. I can stand right next to friend who has nexus 5 with same service and he has full lte. Had the same thing happen with me reinserting sim card. I would get lte bars then the signal just dies and I get nothing.

Is the APN right? It may have signal but just say unknown.

Bizarre 'Mobile Network Not Available'

Hello all,
The problem phone is my girlfriend's Nexus S (9020a) with the following details:
ROM: Slim_ICS_4.0.4
Radio: NO DGSXXKB1
Kernel: [email protected] #3
Her phone cannot connect to a mobile network. I've tried rebooting, I've tried cycling with airplane mode, I've tried reflashing the ROM, changing the Radio, changing the Kernel. Nothing worked - still no connection.
My phone is another Nexus S. I was under the impression that connecting with the provider was controlled by the SIM card, so to verify that her SIM card worked, I popped it into my phone. It works like a charm. This led me to believe that it was her hardware, so I popped in my working SIM card into her phone, and it works too! In fact, from her nexus S (with my sim card in it), I can call my handset (with her sim card in it), and the call goes through.
I think this rules out her sim card being faulty, as well as her hardware, and considering I've tried changing roms, radios and kernels, I think the software isn't the problem either but I can't be sure.
Her IMEI number matches the number under the battery, and I've double checked that the APN is correctly set up for her phone.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.
Werm.
Read the radio guide in development there's a part about getting your 3g connection back. This happens to my gfs phone once and it was a pain to figure out. But I believe the phone is not connecting to the right service I.e. gsm.

iu suggest you get a new sim card for your gf, since your card worked and hers didn't. it didn't cost me anything.

LTE on Sprint w/ cyanogenmod...

So I have had the nexus 5 for a little while. Unlike many others I have had great battery life and lte was fine on 4.4 and I found it got better with 4.4.1 and again with 4.4.2. Now after the update to 4.4.2 I rooted phone and installed CM11. It worked great and got even better battery life. There has been a bug here or there but nothing that would stop me from using CM11. My problem is that when not on wifi I have no data unless I restart my phone and sometimes it will give me a 3g connection. I would like to stay with cyanogenmod but I am with sprint in not only a lte area but a sprint spark area. So before I have to leave cm can anyone come up with any solutions. Here is what I have tried.
Restarting the device... (for anyone who has ever called a tech help center)
Removing sim card. Restarting the device without it in there than restarting it with the sim in.
In setting, I went to wireless&networks- mobile networks, data is enabled, data roaming is enabled, preferred network type is LTE recommended, and system select is automatic. (tried other settings under here as well.)
I've been searching if I can just change the radios with a zip.
So I rooted with CF autoroot at 4.4.2, have clockworkmod. Don't know if that affected it.
Also I had the sim card under password every time I restarted the phone before I rooted. After rooting and installing cm it no longer prompted me to enter the sim card code. now in cm under settings and security. "set up SIM card lock" is blacked out. I don't know if this meaning there is a problem with the sim card which should control lte for sprint. When I did remove the sim card I got no cellular reception so CDMA was disabled.
Any ideas?
For anyone that runs into this problem. Install Stock ROM, unlock sim card, reinstall cm

Nexus 5 not registering on T-mobile Network

Phone's Settings read
Mobile Network Type- Unknown
Service State- Out of Service
Mobile Network State- Disconnected
My IMEI still shows up and I can connect to WIFI and bluetooth. The only problem is I can't get a signal, not 2G or 3G (even LTE)
This started happening out of nowhere, I tried taking out the sim, factory resetting, wiping caches, changing the APNs, restarting the phone, and I even put the sim in a new phone (It got signal).
If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears! What's the point of this amazing phone if I can't call people with it?
How long did you have the phone before this happened? Did you dial *#*#4636#*#* to check the phone info and change the network type?
I had a similar issue, but I think mine was a lot worse due to a dirty flash. I ended up having to do a fastboot recovery to restore it to factory.

What service are you with? I had this same exact issue a week ago with an LG G2. My Sim card would work in my Nexus 5 but wouldn't work in the G2.
After numerous factory resets I eventually called Metro PCS (my carrier) and I was told that whenever I put my Sim Card into a new phone I must always contact them and give them the new IMEI # so that the phone can work.
The Metro PCS rep claimed that they have a feature that disables the Sim from working in an unauthorized phone. I guess its to help with theft.

Hi, were you able to fix your issue? I am having the same exact issue and have done all troubleshooting I can do on my own but still nothing works.
If you have a method of fixing this please share.
Thanks,

I know this is really OLD!!!!
but i just had the same issue today
with a NEXUS 5 running stock marshmallo 6.0.1 with the latest patches
, and yes... is not the phone is the carrier
MetroPCS do IMEI lookup
i had another phone before the NEXUS 5
so it is no just matter of swapping the SIM card from one phone to the other
you need to call CS and you told them that your phone is not registering on the network
and that you just swapped phones
So they ask you for the IMEI of the "new" phone
and your SIM card #
you reboot your cell
and VOILA!
now the phone registers in the network
Yes, Metro do IMEI authentication

(HELP) nexus 5 emergency calls only imei OK

Dear experts,
I have got a nexus 5 of a friend, which has network issue. I have flashed all factory images and almost all modems, but it still gives me emergency calls only and my imei is ok. Network state shows not connected. I am a Note 2 user and had Same issue in my Note 2 too. But it was solved by patching modem with zulumans modem patcher. I tried patching modems but there is no modem.bin in the modem folder. I tried to change the radio band using *#*#4636#*#* but it only shows US band.
Please help me. Thanks.
I am having same problem. My nexus 5 was working fine till 3 days ago when all of a sudden there was no signal. It shows my network name but says "no service". I thought it could be sim related issue and got it replaced. Still it shows the same.
I havent tried flashing modems/radio.
One funny thing is, i tried putting another sim of a different provider. It showed signal for a minute or so and then dropped (shows no service).
When I scan for network it is able to see all the available network but then it doesnt register on a network.
I'm from India and I have BSNL connection.
Tried flashing kitkat and 5.0 fatory images...nothing happened,
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP
!
Bump
One other strange thing is when i tried a sim of another network it got registered!!! but then i was not able to make calls. I tried calling the number from another phone and it said the phone was switched off. I don't understand.
1) Is it a prob with antenna? 2) or the motherboard 3) or sim (which is unlikely as it is working just fine on my new oneplus one). Please someone help...
Does it never occur to anyone to backup efs and store on a card or LT
emergency calls only (Motherboard Problem)
Emergency Calls Only, This is due to substandard nexus hardware quality, as around the world all nexus 5 phone owner face the same problem, google is silent on their fault, i will never buy nexus phone in future, or faulty upgrade destroys our phone hardware,
My nexus in block by t mobile well my iemi is I think I want to unblock it just shows no signal

Is the imei on the blacklist?

Sim issue. Maybe

Woke up this morning and grabbed phone and notice a strange icon between my WiFi and battery icons. No signal, first tried toggling airplane mode, didn't help. Next step was to reboot, didn't help. Next I booted into TWRP and wiped caches, only difference here was I saw the android is optimizing apps 1 of 30 or what ever. Booted back up and still shows no Sim. I have also pulled and reinserted the Sim a few times.
Running Android M stock rooted on Sprint.
Attached a screen shot from in carrier settings. Still shows my imei and basebands so I'm assuming the efs is ok

Same here, the only difference is that I just flashed a custom ROM for the first time on my nexus 5 and found about this issue. I tried DU and CM 12.1 and all of them have this issue. With CM i got data after while with a NO SIM CARD error but it was very slow and only where LTE was available. I went back to stock and data is working again.
Try the sim card in another phone and try someone else's sim card in yours.

Sim works in other phones and whatever Sim I put in nexus isn't detected at all. I've tried T-Mobile and a at&t sim. I have had service reappear twice since this post. And only after shutting down the phone and letting it sit 45 mins to a hour.

This sounds like a hardware issue affecting the SIM card reader. Perhaps try to factory reset or back to Android Lollipop if you like.
