GPS not working on your AOSP ROM?
1) Install a sense ROM, open up a GPS app (like GPS Status & Toolbox/Maps) and let it find your location. De-bloated stock ROM's work too.
2) Reinstall your favorite AOSP ROM and test out GPS!

I'd like to install Android Contacts instead of (or plus) HTC Contacts.
I'v tryed to install a Contacts.apk (from Desire (not S) ROM "Ginger Villain 2.1" ), but it won't install (it worked for Gallery3Dm.apk ).
anyone got an idea ?
PS: my phone is not rooted and s-ON
thanks
since this is a sense rom you are running it is not possible to use the stock android apps without root.
the stock android contacts app is included in our system folder, but the sense contact app is a kind of overlay for the stock app. it´s based in the sense framework.
that means even with root it is very difficult to use stock apps instead of the sense counterpart.
i think it is easier to build a AOSP-based ROM than building a "de-sensed" ROM based on a sense ROM.

I just wondering what exactly does STK to work in the ROMS. I have tried all ICS ROMS, mainly AOSP built ROMS and for example in AOSP+ ROM is STK working (after adding STK.apk in system/app) but in NEXUSBEAM not (also built from AOSP). I really like to use MIUI but the chinese do not support STK while it is not so important for them as for us in Europe! So can anybody explain me what is making STK to work in ROMS? Is it any driver or what? So can I add this to any ROM, MIUI?
Thanx for help and explanation.
Question #1: GPS
I have the Samsung Galaxy S 4G which has been long rooted and I've installed a few roms now on it. Recently I upgraded to Revolt 4+ which is my first attempt to find a Jelly Bean ROM that will work for me. Well, I love it. Only problem is that it seems it doesn't have GPS? Google Maps work but Navigation doesn't follow me which I'm guessing means it's using internet to "find" me. There's no GPS flashing icons nor are there any settings for GPS. Is there anyway to get it working or is it just not working for this ROM?
Question #2: Aries?!
Many of the roms mention "Aries's common bugs" but google searching it gives me nothing. Where can I find information about Aries?
Question #3: The latest fully-working ROM?
There are soooo many ROMs to choose from for the SGS4G that I don't know what to look for. I found and have been using THIS page but not sure how outdated/accurate it is. Anybody know the best/most recommended ROM right now that has all the main parts working? GPS, WIFI...etc? I know wifi calling always has issues but not important.
:good: to anybody who is able to help with any of the above!
Hi.
#1 All JB ROMs (meaning 4.1.2 and above) have Aries kernel.
it is faster than Herrig kernel used before, and should be more stable, but, no developer was able to make GPS work with it. so, there's currently no JB ROM with a working GPS.
#2 If you want a working GPS you will need ICS (4.0.3/4.0.4) ROM :
CM9/AOKP/Slim/MIUI/Ultragen etc.
I'm a MIUI freak so I can say I love HebMIUI which is an upgraded MIUI version I came up with. you can try it (see my signature) or any of the others I mentioned.
Slight addendum to #1. Not entirely true. Some of the earlier JB ROMs were still Herring. The various 4.2 Wifi-bugs were on Herring. Any ROM where they tell you to do the 4.1.2 JB if you wanted Wifi, it's a Herring kernel. For that matter, I believe we've only had compiled 4.2.2 and above Aries here. So if the ROM is 4.1.2 JB, it's Herring. If it's 4.2.2 without working Wifi, it's probably Herring. If it's 4.2.2 with Wifi or 4.3, it's probably Aries.
Agree on ICS/GB for GPS though. HebMIUI or Ultragen 1.01 (DO NOT USE ULTRAGEN 1.00 AND POST BUG REPORTS) are probably your best ICS options.
THANK YOU both for clearing up alot of stuff for me. Thank you x2 for itzik2sh for recommending HebMIUI. I have it installed and I love it sofar. Hopefully somebody figures out JB GPS eventually.
I'll still check back here if anybody else has anything else to throw in.
Hi,
First of all I would like to thank you all for giving an extra-life to our rather old device. You're doing a great job!
Well, the problem is basically that the GPS doesn't work when I flash any ICS or Jelly bean Rom. The device is unable to find any gps, and I've tried many apps, such as GPS status & toolbox, GPS fix, etc. When I go back to Gingerbread, the GPS does work properly. I've also tried many roms, always ending up with the same problem, and I couldn't find any other user with the same problem.
I've come to believe that it may have to do with cyanogenmod, but I'm not sure of it and don't know any other rom that isn't based on cyanogenmod. Maybe a Rom based on something else could do the trick....
I'd be very grateful if you could give me a hand with this!
Thank you in advance
Hi guys, I've been researching for a fully stable custom rom, but I could'nt find one. Does someone knows if there is one out there that I missed.? Preferelly AOSP or CM based.
- I've tried mokee rom and even that it is marked as stable on their website its buggy (Bluetooth not working).
Update...
This is my list of all the rom's that I personally tested and are stable by the moment:
[*][ROM][UBER][5.1.1][UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 12.1[STABLE] - Low mic isssue
[URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4i/development/rom-t3218133"
[ROM][Ferrari][CarbonROM][5.1.1][2015-10-04][/URL]
Thank you for your comments, all are apreciated.
For now Iam using lineage 14.1 build and its working fine for my daily use, the not working part is only flashlight and fm radio, check the thread for the workaround. Before using lineage build Iam using cm 14.1 its working fine too.
i use Pixel ROm, it base on Cm 14.1 so far it good and stable for daily use. the bug is FM radio, MTP and flashlight, but you can fix flashligt problem by your self here and for the MTP problem you can fix here
Don't you ever trust mokee
They don't even have a maintainer , it's mean they don't have this phone to test a "thing"
Try AICP Nougat Nightlies. They are working very stable for me with optimized battery and everything fixed. Only for flashlight you will hae to do a soft reboot. This is the most stable custom ROM I've use till now. I think once they release a STABLE build, I would permanently flash that and never switch to another ROM.
Thank you all for your inputs, my idea is to create a list of each ROM and it's bug´s (if exists).
Right now Im using Carbon Rom and it seems to be stable, I had a problem with the initiall setup but I think it was my fault (I forgot to wipe data). I'll let you know if something else happens. :good:
I am using XOSP ROM (6.0.1), only problem I am having right now is the Flashlight, others (bluetooth, hotspot, dual sim, wifi e.t.c.) working quite well. I have tried other ROMs but there was battery quick draining issues, however there is no such issue in this ROM. You can try this ROM once.
I use crDroid maintained by Anand.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4i/development/rom-crdroid-7-1-t3523948
One of the best ROM for Mi 4i after MIUI. Using for the past one month.
