Gps not working - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Hi,
First of all I would like to thank you all for giving an extra-life to our rather old device. You're doing a great job!
Well, the problem is basically that the GPS doesn't work when I flash any ICS or Jelly bean Rom. The device is unable to find any gps, and I've tried many apps, such as GPS status & toolbox, GPS fix, etc. When I go back to Gingerbread, the GPS does work properly. I've also tried many roms, always ending up with the same problem, and I couldn't find any other user with the same problem.
I've come to believe that it may have to do with cyanogenmod, but I'm not sure of it and don't know any other rom that isn't based on cyanogenmod. Maybe a Rom based on something else could do the trick....
I'd be very grateful if you could give me a hand with this!
Thank you in advance

ROM PersonaRedV4 help....

Hello, I just installed personaRedV4 ROM and I must say that I have solved many problems, the management of memopria seems great, the system is more fluid ....
but I have a vision problem on a red background, I wish I could even change the background of the market, for example, can not read the buttons to download, install, etc. ... the market for the app.
I read that installing GalaxyXT resolve some of these problems, but I have installed the V4 and should have already understood the GalaxyXt. But I still see the red background.
One last question, what do you think the best roms for XT720?
also exists here in the forum or a list of the Roma out so far?
Thank you all for your attention ...
ps I tried searching the forums for an solution to my problems, but I'm not good at English ....
I used google translator, ... ....

theres lots of roms for our phone now. you can look for the roms in the android development section of this forum for our phone. there's first of all dexters froyo rom, then khalpowers v4 roms which are heavily optimized and themed, then there's fjfalcons RusMod rom which is similar to khals rom except for the themes and its also in russian. there's also the MIUI rom which its interface looks slightly like the ios's. i like the lockscreen and the snappiness of this rom, but not the rest of the interface. currently im just rooted on stock 2.1 which im very happy with (i dont use flash much) because theres no bugs at all, and has a pretty good battery life compared to the custom roms. there's also the wanhu rom and cincinnati bell rom, but i havent tried them out yet.

I would say if you want 2.2 Froyo all things working like TV out and fm radio then Khalpowers WanHU is the best choice for now but the stock special might be as well it is new. If you want just speed and stability then Khalpowers MIUI Final V4. If you want the best stability and responsiveness and don't mind 2.1 you can try Mioze7Ae's 2.1 Eclair strikes back V2 He's done a real good job tweaking that. As of now I am on The Stock XDA Special and it is really nice with only a few subtle minor bugs that are being worked on. When that is complete it should be the top choice. I am using 3rdstring's theme Darkfroyo remix and it is pretty awesome.
Thanks for your answers, I installed the ROM Xtmiuioptimized is fantastic, everything works perfectly, the only thing I have left the market earlier that the ROM is with the black background, and I do not know how to change it ....
thanks

[Q] Voice Dialer STILL not working on android 4.2.2

Words fails me. I am so disgusted I have ran out of expletives so I won't bother repeating them here. Seriously...voice dialer is STILL not working! This update was specifically designed to fix this bug and it is still not working. I just can't understand what is so hard about putting back in functionality that was working before in ICS and was necessary.
This is the sort of thing that gets people to switch over irrevocably to apple. This has been going on for like a year now. It is starting to feel like it is being done on purpose for God knows what reason. Does it work for anyone else?

What update? This phone is officially on 4.1.1 . You are not guaranteed anything by running custom software.

Fair enough. Although I never said I was guaranteed anything and apparently we are also not guaranteed to have important functionality (aka voice dialer) to work from one official release to the next. It worked fine when I had ICS it just broke when I was upgraded to JB. I would prefer not to have to root my phone to get it work, but if I waited for the official channels then I will likely have to wait until I get my next phone for a fix.
Both Google and AOKP mentioned that bluetooth issues were fixed with 4.2.2 and I was inquiring whether this worked for others as it did not work for me. Neither 4.1.1, nor 4.1.2 nor 4.2.1 nor 4.2.2 nor any of the other little hacks others have tried have worked and I know others on the official release of 4.2.2 for Nexus had similar problems so I was hoping someone might have run across a solution.
I know I sounded snarky, but I am just really frustrated.
So I do not know if this will help you but I had pacman rom and the dialer wasn't working so I reflashed, no wiping and it fixed it.
Also there is always the option of going back to the stable TW roms. Which is what I did. You can't be mad for things not running smooth when you're running custom roms that make no claims of stability.

Thanks for the info, it was definitely worth a try. Alas the pacman rom did not do the trick. I had the official JB TW update and that is what broke my phone in the first place and I am not really interested in going back to ICS since I got the new phone so I can get Jelly Bean. I have also tried CleamROM and the the latest CM, AOKP and liquidSmooth 4.2.2 along with the just released gapps-jb-130301-signed.zip. No dice.
I'll keep banging away and let everyone know if I find a solution with other ROMs or tweaks.
I am not mad about custom ROMs not working properly I am mad about the official release breaking critical functionality for me.
I tried PK and PA ROMs in addition to aready mentioned. Voice dial does not work in any of them. I also tried Ktoonsez kernel - no dice. I think it's a major JB problem and there won't be any working ROM until Google fixes the issue. I just stopped trying :crying: ...

SOOO lost -total N00B

Hello everyone,
Ive spend the last hour or so trying to find a basic step by step for me here, but so far nothing I can understand- Please pardon my ignorance...
Ok-
I have a fully STOCK galaxy tab 2 7.0 Plus:
-GT-P6210 (US model)
-4.0.4
-Kernel: 3.0.15
-Build: IMM76D.UELPC
I would like to get 4.1-4.2 running on here, but ideally- 4.1/2 running a stock(nexus like) ROM. I am def. not a fan of Samsungs interface as time has gone by, but seem to favor the nexus's (unless there is better?) . I know I need to root the device, and I am fine with that, along with all the risks that go with this (I killed a atrix a few years ago).
So, if someone could direct me to the proper link(s), or if your willing to help me a little (we can work something out PP/BTC) Id greatly appreciate it!
I have the ability, just have 0 teacher to show me the way. From what I understand some of the ROMs available here are great, and id really like to learn. I am a hardware guy for a living, swimming in this world of software is daunting at times...
There is no such thing as a Google / Nexus style ROM for this device. there are variants of CM 10 but that is custom CM, not Nexus UI.
In fact there is no such thing as a pure Google version of Android for any device. Google does not supply the kernel and device drivers so Google Android from Google source runs on none, nada, zero, devices out of the box. Each hardware vendor takes the base Android and adds their own parts to the kernel, adds device drivers and in Samsungs case some additional UI and frame work features (Touchwiz).
The CM 10 JB variants work ok, but some hardware features like the IR blaster will not work on those since the HW is Samsung specific. A better experience if you don;t like the TW launcher might be to install the stock Samsung JB 4.1.2 ROM and then install one of the nice third party launchers on the market to get a different UI look. The launcher is really the major visible difference between Nexus UI and Samsung. Apex, Nova, and Holo are 3 launchers that work well.

Hello, and thank you for you reply!
That makes sense, regarding the Nexus/android ROM- again, please pardon my ignorance...
As for the IR blaster, i am not too concerned about loosing that function. I never really use it, and its never worked great anyway...
Id like to try a stock samsung 4.1/4.2 ROM, and try a 3rd party launcher, or even give the CM10 a go if the stock rom doesnt work. It is my understanding I will have to root the device before I can proceed anywhere. Is this a hard to do process, or pretty simple now a day (I would imagine)?
I again thank you for your help!

You can install JB without rooting , right over ICS. Using ODIN.
If you want to customize, Rooting is the starting point. Root and install a recovery module , CWMR or TWRP. Haven't had to install root in a few months, I'll have to look at the current threads to give you a recommendation on that.
One caution, install JB or install the custom recovery and root before you wipe anything on the ICS ROM . Samsung had a bug in the system wipe routine that can cause permanent damage to the memory. It is fixed in JB ROMs and also in the custom recovery software. Just be sure not to do a factory reset on ICS.
Here is a link to the Samsung JB 4.1.2 for P6210. Using ODIN you install this over your current Samsung ICS ROM. (NOTE: the only 4.1.2 P6210 Samsung release so far is a UK ROM and some people have reported Wifi issues due to this, but I run this one and have encountered no issues at all. )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278740
This appears to be the latest instruction for rooting JB.

Once you perform the above, you can return to stock Samsung ICS later if you want, but that would most likely return you to factory stock and wipe your programs and settings, so be sure you know the consequences before you jump.

I have one final question for you, or anyone out there running this same JB/ODIN process...
Will this, and if so how much, bog the performance of the tab itself? I notice that the tab even with ICS tends to be a little "jerky" going from menu to menu, etc... Is this because of my hardware, or lack of the "project butter" being part of the OS? (I think that was part of JB?)
If I were to have the wifi issues, would I be able to flash back?
Other than that, i am ready to hit the "Go" button!

Why would this bog down the tablet?. JB is much smoother than ICS. That was one of Goggles goals in JB. However, some people expect PS4 like performance ..... ha...., all of these phones/tablets use cheap / low power processors. You get what you get, That being said, I am very happy with my P6210 on JB
You can always use ODIN to go back, but you will lose all your settings and installed apps when you do that.
The Wifi issues I have seen reported seem to be that some US Wifi channels do not show up. Not surprising, there are differences in the UK spectrum.

More just a thought about the S/W being much newer than the hardware. I most certainly do not expect superformance out the device, but more or less was making sure the hardware is up to the task. Would you rec. I do a backup of the system past the basic "app back n restore" app?

When you install the JB over the Samsung ICS, your settings and apps should be retained. For all brands and ROM, You can backup and restore apps with something like Titanium Backup if you are rooted, but you should not restore data between ICS and JB using most backup apps. the storage areas are different and doing so will cause bad things to happen.

Done n Done with success!
As you stated, everything held perfect and no issues on the wifi side of things. This OS really made a good difference on the tab as a whole, feels more complete.
I thank you again for all your help!!!!!!!!
What would be a reason to "root" this tablet other than being able to run custom ROMs and maybe be able to off load some bloatware? I feel like I am missing out on what is possible with android and really should get on the bandwagon.

For this tablet I don't feel that any of the current custom ROMs offer any advantages or features over the stock setup. I keep it rooted in case I want to drop in a custom startup screen or backup things. Other than that, there is really no good reason to root for the tablet.
Hopefully some of the developers will update to JB and add some of the Note 2 or S4 features soon though.

Welcome of course.

Trying to find best ROM. Need GPS!

Question #1: GPS
I have the Samsung Galaxy S 4G which has been long rooted and I've installed a few roms now on it. Recently I upgraded to Revolt 4+ which is my first attempt to find a Jelly Bean ROM that will work for me. Well, I love it. Only problem is that it seems it doesn't have GPS? Google Maps work but Navigation doesn't follow me which I'm guessing means it's using internet to "find" me. There's no GPS flashing icons nor are there any settings for GPS. Is there anyway to get it working or is it just not working for this ROM?
Question #2: Aries?!
Many of the roms mention "Aries's common bugs" but google searching it gives me nothing. Where can I find information about Aries?
Question #3: The latest fully-working ROM?
There are soooo many ROMs to choose from for the SGS4G that I don't know what to look for. I found and have been using THIS page but not sure how outdated/accurate it is. Anybody know the best/most recommended ROM right now that has all the main parts working? GPS, WIFI...etc? I know wifi calling always has issues but not important.
:good: to anybody who is able to help with any of the above!
Hi.
#1 All JB ROMs (meaning 4.1.2 and above) have Aries kernel.
it is faster than Herrig kernel used before, and should be more stable, but, no developer was able to make GPS work with it. so, there's currently no JB ROM with a working GPS.
#2 If you want a working GPS you will need ICS (4.0.3/4.0.4) ROM :
CM9/AOKP/Slim/MIUI/Ultragen etc.
I'm a MIUI freak so I can say I love HebMIUI which is an upgraded MIUI version I came up with. you can try it (see my signature) or any of the others I mentioned.
Slight addendum to #1. Not entirely true. Some of the earlier JB ROMs were still Herring. The various 4.2 Wifi-bugs were on Herring. Any ROM where they tell you to do the 4.1.2 JB if you wanted Wifi, it's a Herring kernel. For that matter, I believe we've only had compiled 4.2.2 and above Aries here. So if the ROM is 4.1.2 JB, it's Herring. If it's 4.2.2 without working Wifi, it's probably Herring. If it's 4.2.2 with Wifi or 4.3, it's probably Aries.
Agree on ICS/GB for GPS though. HebMIUI or Ultragen 1.01 (DO NOT USE ULTRAGEN 1.00 AND POST BUG REPORTS) are probably your best ICS options.
THANK YOU both for clearing up alot of stuff for me. Thank you x2 for itzik2sh for recommending HebMIUI. I have it installed and I love it sofar. Hopefully somebody figures out JB GPS eventually.
I'll still check back here if anybody else has anything else to throw in.

[Q] Updating from a 4.1 ROM...

Hello, all
I have been looking around for ROMS to update my phone with (currently running 4.1.2) and the reason why I stay on it is because of its stability and 0 issues that it gives me. I've had it for a long time now, and as I was browsing through these new ROMS, I am seeing that they share the same problems and bugs (ex. bluetooth not working etc) and I was wondering if there are ROMS higher than 4.1.2 that I could rely on. I've tried 4.2 ROMS before but ended up flashing back my nandroid because it gave me various issues. Are there roms out there that I could use that would give me a stable experience? Thank you in advanced.

If you want near zero issue try to stay with current stock rom as much as possible (current released is 4.3, not 4.4), Give this a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600305
