I NO DO NOT OWN THIS PHONE AND WILL NO LONGER PROVIDE SUPPORTHere is a link to the stock Verizon tar file to flash in download mode via Odin. Use this to return to factory stock if a factory reset dose not solve any problems you may have with your retail Verizon S5. This will remove root and any custom recovery. I have also included a .pit file if you want to repartition your device and a link to Odin. If you find these files useful and download them please hit the thanks button. Do not copy these files and repost them, make a link to this thread instead. If I missed anything in the instructions please let me know and I will update the OP. Thanks and enjoy.
DO NOT FLASH THE FULL TAR FILES ON THE DEV EDITION UNLESS YOU WANT A LOCKED BOOTLOADER!! Please make a backup using this guide before flashing anything here. It will save your phone from a lock down.
Tar Install Instructions:
1: Download Odin and Verizon S5 Stock Retail Tar from the links below. Then extract the Odin.zip file ..
2: Run Odin and pick the AP button then navigate to where you saved the file you want to flash and chose that file. Let Odin verify the file.
3: Turn off your phone and enter download mode by holding the home, volume down and the power buttons until the enter download mode screen appears. Then enter download mode by letting go of the buttons and then press the volume up key.
4: Now you should be in download mode, connect your phone to your PC now. Odin should say connected in the message box, if not you need to install your Samsung phone drivers.
5: After connecting your phone and loading the tar file select the Start button and let Odin do it's job. This will take about 5 to to 10 minutes to complete. Please be patient and do not disconnect your phone until the phone reboots and the word Pass appears in the upper left corner of Odin.
6: That's it, you should now be in the phone setup screen with the words Pass in Odin if all went well.
** Safestrap will no longer work after updating to OA8. You can access Safestrap by flashing back the NK2_Kernel_Only and then the OC4_Kernel when you are done using Safestrap.**
If you get stuck in a bootloop after flashing a tar file DO NOT pull the battery. Enter the maintenance menu by holding the volume down, home and power keys for about 10 seconds. Then clear cache and factory data reset.

Ha Ha.... No and No. I can confirm this, I flashed my own phone first. On a side note don't use flash gordon to flash zip files. You might mess up your phone beyond the factory reset. It's all good now.
Really appreciate this! With root we have the ability to really mess up our phone. This gives some peace of mind. Thanks!

No problem, I'm having this moved to this thread probably tomorrow morning. I figured we should combine threads to cut down on some clutter in the general thread.
Sorry if this a noobish question, I've never used Odin. By repartition are you saying I can use this to make the system partition smaller and add more space to the rest of the system?

No the pit file just re-partitions the phone to stock partition sizes. As far as I know you can only change partition sizes thru a custom recovery like safestrap.
Now we need a file like this that doesn't touch the internal sd card. Just a system refresh

Or odin. You can modify the package to not wipe storage, but I'm not sure if it will flash on a bootloader locked device.

Yup, that's what I was thinking with breaking the sig. I know you can flash the modem and recovery without the sig but for the system you need it.
Is this Odin image or the one from Sammobile more reliable? My phone has a weird quirk where it sets itself to vibrate right after a reboot and I wanted to see if going back to factory and starting over fixed it.

I believe it's the same and I know for sure it works great, I had to use it already. Also my download link is faster.

I used the one from Sammobile to recover my Verizon SGS5 after rooting it and getting a little too carried away deleting bloat. It worked fine.

You either have a bad download and need to redownload or you aren't using the checker properly. I checked the MD5's and they match. All you need to do for the checker is copy the md5 and paste it in the md5 box and select the file

True but the Sammobile download is really slow if you don't pay for the service. The one I have posted is the same as what came with my phone from Verizon.

Absolutely. I was just saying the one from Sammobile will work if it can't be found elsewhere. When I needed the file I couldn't find it anywhere else and this thread wasn't here yet. I just suffered through the 90 minute download but in the end it all worked out.
I redownloaded on another computer and the Md5 numbers match, except for the tar file. When I download it and run it threw Odin, the program freezes. At the end of the file it has "tar.md5"Why does it have the md5 at the end? Shouldn't it have just ".tar" only? Thanks.

Just packed now sorry. You flashed the one from the restoring stock recovery thread? What was your method of flashing it? Does it boot up at all or stick at the samsung boot screen? (i packaged that one and am curious as I heard reports of it working)
Download link: still uploading
Pit file attached in case you need it (unrar it first)
I do not guarantee that this will work, all I did was tar the files and upload them (and edit the pit). I did not trim the datafs.rfs file due to lack of ability to test it. Flash AT YOUR OWN RISK! so If this fails you now own a fancy brick!
edit:Not posting the tar yet for privacy of ayoteddy and potentially his logins to websites. The data wasn't wiped and has all his info, waiting for a clean one.
damn those files shouldnt contain any data since i had factory wiped just before pulling those images. *shrug* there might be a more in-depth way to clear all data
anyways im sure we can have a functional odin image with only the following files included
zImage
modem.bin
factoryfs.rfs
Recovery.bin
Param.lfs
i doubt anybody will be messing with anything else in their file sys but that should be able to recovery anybody from a soft brick.
Edit: Also dis-include the sbl and boot.bin as it could be very dangerous overwriting those files.. not really necessary anyhow.
I'm actually stuck at the black screen with a phone and a computer with a yellow triangle in the middle. Yeah, I was trying to flash a stock recovery from the stock recovery thread. Got a little desperate and tried to flash the recovery tarred for Odin, and that sent me to where I am now. I appreciate all your hard work guys, and have learned my lesson not to flash unless there's a lot of backups handy ;]
I'll try the pit, not sure if I may need more or not, you guys probably know better than me.
EDIT: as I am not skilled in using Odin and do not wish to cause further damage to my phone, I will await instructions from you guys/ayoteddy's image.

What did you do while flashing it? What boxes did you tick? Where did you put the tar, etc
@ ayoteddy alright i'll just make one from those, only reason i was including cache before is I heard its where permissions were stored though as you said I'm sure those files work fine
Here it is:
Odin + pit: attached
sk4g_stock.tar.md5.rar: Click here
UNRAR the tar first (i didn't want to trim factoryfs.rfs due to unability to test so I compressed it instead)
Put the extracted sk4g.tar.md5 in the pda slot
make sure ONLY AUTO-REBOOT is checked (unless you are re-partitioning, then use re-partition and the pit file)
1. open odin with phone not connected yet
2. boot in to download mode using Trackpad+Vol down then power (thanks sduvick)
3. connect phone to pc
4. sk4g_stock.tar.md5 in pda slot
5. double check that only auto-reboot is checked (and the pda you selected of course)
6. Click flash
Disclaimer: Flash at your own risk, if you get bricked I am not liable.
The odin tar includes
factoryfs.rfs
modem.bin
param.lfs
recovery.bin
zImage
Thanks blu, @sduvick would prolly be the first to test cause he was waitng for this.. hope everything works out for em
He also figured out how to get into downlode mode ..
Trackpad+Vol down then power

I'm not entirely sure what I did. I think I put the recovery.tar.md5 in the wrong place. anyways, I'm back out of bricked, and now just waiting for a working stock restore tar to get back to stock.
EDIT: just saw the tar, downloading now, will test in around 10 min when the file is downloaded.

Did you try my one click stock in the same post?
Yeah, I didn't have the same root method, so that didn't get rid of Clockwork for me.
First try at flashing failed almost at the end, at recovery.bin if I'm not mistaken. I'm trying to run it again.
EDIT: Failed again, at recovery.bin

Got it working through pm with him.
attach the pit and re-partition. then flash the tar
sduvick wanna post the steps you used?
I can actually give steps based on what you have for symptoms (too much experimenting for me haha)
If you have the "soft brick," that is the small phone and computer icons, just connect to Odin and flash the full image.
Black screen, no logo.
1. Get into download mode by using VolDown+Touchpad+Power
2. flash full sk4g.tar.md5 as posted.
logo only
1. Download mode
2. Flash full package
Can't flash recovery/boot/sbl
1. Download mode
2. use PIT only, run with repartition checked
3. reboot/reDownload mode
4. run the full image in Odin.
Anything else
1. Download mode
2. Full tar.md5 flash in Odin
3. Ask if it doesn't work

Why is the other step 6 firmware/bootloader package necessary?
Is it not possible for an all in one rom flash?

Like say I flashed the rom & skipped step 6 would it fail to boot? Bootloop?

No. Since our bootloaders are locked, an all in one rom flash would brick you. That, and safestrap (as far as I know) does not flash any other partitions other than system and data. Also, flashing those via ODIN is MUCH safer. I've not heard of anyone bricking from flashing a corrupted image via ODIN since ODIN verifies the MD5.

jasmine was built from pulled aka dd'd partitions from an updated phone this was built from the factory images straight from samsung untouched. only difference other than what is listed in op is possibly better symlinks etc. as i read mr. hyde was having a problem with reboot command because of symlinks
So... I should flash this over jasmine? O mean whatever you think beans I always appreciate everything you do and go with what you say buddy. Now if I flash this since I have jasmine already on NE9 I can just flash this in SS without any complications or do I have to flash kernels and firmwares again?

I would say not to dirty flash this since this is an official base compared to jasmine's pulled base.
Once you've flashed NE9 firmware, you never need to flash it again... unless you downgrade to NCG. But yeah once you're on NE9, you're good. :good:

Hey,
My download of the Deodex NE9 ROM zip keeps stopping at around ~640mb.. I've tried 3 times already! Do you think it's an issue with AFH or is any one else having issues getting the ROM to fully download?

I think so, I was having problems uploading to AFH yesterday.
How do we flash the ODIN firmware? What option do we check? IS it the bootloader section in ODIN?

**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
Downloads:
- G900V_PF4_Stock_ROM.zip (For "Locked" Bootloaders - Unrooted)
- G900V_PF4_Stock_Deodexed_Debloated_ROM.zip (For "Locked" Bootloaders - Unrooted)
- G900V_PF4_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip (For "Unlocked" Bootloaders Only!)
- G900V_PF4_Stock_Deodexed_Debloated_Rooted_ROM.zip (For "Unlocked" Bootloaders Only!)
Instructions for "Locked" Bootloaders:
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" setting to "Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the **flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the G900V_PF4_Bootloader using Odin's PDA/AP slot.
**The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition.
Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Verizon splash screen for 1 - 2 minutes (10 - 15 mins for deodexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Instructions for "Unlocked" Bootloaders: (Your Knox Warranty Bit will be tripped!)
1. Use the following guide however the above ROM's for "Unlocked" Bootloaders are pre-"system rooted," therefore there is no need to flash the SuperSu .zip file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Notes:
1. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Recovery, and Bootloader.
2. Native tethering is enabled on all of the ROM's.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing, the ROM will automatically wipe User Data.
4. The Debloated version has all Google, most Verizon, and all Knox apps removed.
5. If you do not already have root access follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
6. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

This strikes me as very important information that should be included in the steps before it instead of being a footnote. Can anyone clarify the complete steps/process? Also, any idea what the changelog is?
EDIT: I'm on the rooted OD5 ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...w-to-update-to-g900vod5-5-0-keeproot-t3136945 Just trying to make head or tail of the instructions in this post. Do I need to flash the OD5 bootloader since I'm already on OD5, or what?
I'm a little confused why the first 3 steps in the FlashFire process is necessary (Google+ signup part) when you include the link for v19 just below, am i missing something here? Also, not being familiar with FlashFire, once i flash OE1 will i be given the option to boot into download mode to Odin the OD5 bootloader? I'm coming from OC4 so order is crucial here I'd imagine. Another also, i generally like deodexed roms, any caveats associated with this one? advanced voice features? My Verizon access? Thanks

I left the links to the FF thread for reference as it contains good discussion re: FF's progress.
As for the bootloader instructions, I will add the steps to the instructions. I mistakenly assumed most people already had that level of understanding.
And the deodexed version is only intended for those that plan to use xposed or themes. If you do not plan on doing either use the regular rom.

Although I would recommend just following the backup/restore method as it is faster and safer, you could open the ROM with Winzip/7zip, navigate through the META-INF folder until you get to the updater-script, then open it with Notepad, and remove this part of the script:
package_extract_file("wipedata.sh", "/tmp/wipedata.sh");
set_perm(0, 0, 0755, "/tmp/wipedata.sh");
run_program("/tmp/wipedata.sh");
then save the file and if you used Winzip, close the program and choose "Update Zip file with changes". If you used 7zip, when you close Notepad, it will ask if you want to update the file in the archive and just choose "Okay".

It should be good to have the same, but it is not an issue at all when they are not.
Wanam'S ROM
I use the ODIN ready packaged files from Wanam's AFH (you just need to extract them and flash in ODIN AP mode).
The numbers represent the version of his ROM, inside each folder you'll find the corresponding MODEM/BL package
i use different versions for a long time and never had any issues.

How to "downgrade" to Kitkat on lollipop (PB1 bootloader) NCG Safestrap Working
If you took the OTA for lollipop (PB1) you are no longer able to downgrade to any version of kitkat with a standard tar it will fail because of a tripped qfuse but this way you can pretty much downgrade to kitkat. You will just have PB1 bootloader.
FYI I did this on a CID 11 locked bootloader Verizon S5
1. Download these files
NCG Kernel: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952612346 (Tar is in .zip file)
NCG Modem: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952612348 (Tar is in .zip file)
NCG Stock Tar: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952612350 (Tar is in .zip file)
Towelroot apk: https://Towelroot.com/
Get safestrap from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793891
2.
-Open flashfire grant it root access then click the plus in the bottom right hand corner and click flash firmware package choose the NCGStocktar.md5
-make sure boot, recovery, system and cache are selected make sure modem firmware and firmware are unchecked then click the checkmark
-look for process cache click it and uncheck Enable and allow cache wipe then click the check mark
-click everroot and uncheck inject SuperSu
-then click Reboot and choose Download
- then click the plus again and choose wipe make sure System Data, 3rd Party apps, dalvik cache, cache partition, cache partition format
-Click and hold on wipe and drag it above flash firmware package
-then click flash and click ok when it says it will go black for a second if its black for more than a minute pull the battery and retry
3.
-once in download mode open Odin on PC (if it doesnt go to download and attempts to boot pull battery and manually go into download)
-verify the device shows up under ID:COM
-now click options and uncheck auto reboot
-now choose NCG stock kernel in ap slot and click start this will flash the kitkat kernel
-when its done unplug the phone from the computer and pull the battery
-then when the battery is back in hold volume down, home and power all together until you see download mode
-click reset in odin then select the NCG Stock Modem in ap slot then click start
-when odin is finished the device should reboot and attempt to boot kitkat
4.
-when kitkat is booted download towelroot from the phone or copy it from the pc to your phone and install the apk
-open towel root and click make it rain it should say no reboot required
-now download supersu from playstore
-open it and click update su binary then click reboot
-now donwload busybox from the play store and install it
-now download the safestrap NCG apk file install it open it and accept the license agreement now click install safestrap
-then click reboot to recovery it should reboot your phone to safestrap

What is the reason for Safestrap in this case? Is it necessary for just the downgrading to 4.4?
I used Safestrap some time ago to load a second rom on my S3. Does Safestrap have the same purpose for the S5?
Thank you very much. This is clearly written and should be easy to follow if I need to do so.

1... Great, thank you.
2... Done. No joy.
Been searching for other possibilities, finding only dead links to AFH.
AFH search for "ncg" shows:
20140409_G900V-NCG_MODEM.tar.md5
20140409_G900V-NCG_MODEM_NON-HLOS.tar.md5
NCG_Firmware_No_Bootloaders_V3.zip
Hmm, AFH search engine is quirky. Search for "NCG_Firmware" includes:
VRU1ANCG_FIRMWARE_ONLY.tar.md5
AFH search for G900V_NCG includes:
G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5
I'm hoping/guessing that (please correct me if I'm wrong):
"NCG Modem" [file from OP] = 20140409_G900V-NCG_MODEM.tar.md5
"NCG Kernel" = G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5
NCG_Firmware_No_Bootloaders_V3.zip does not contain a tar, but directions in OP indicate firmware should be flashed via flashfire (vs odin for others), so I'm assuming that this can be flashed instead. So:
"NCG Stock Tar" = NCG_Firmware_No_Bootloaders_V3.zip
Will these work? If yes I will post links to files.

I suggested searching for "ancg", not for "ncg".
You were supposed to find G900VVRU1ANCG_G900VVZW1ANCG_G900VVRU1ANCG_HOME.zip - a stock firmware file.
Additional search for modem and kernel is not necessary because you can easily pull them from this stock firmware and pack into tar-files.
7zip will do this for you under Windows.
P.S.
Hmm, AFH search engine is quirky.

It looks quirky, probably.
But as a good search engine it should index all those filenames somehow.
I suspect that it splits filenames in letter/non-letter points and indexes all those parts after this.
At least, this theory explains why searching for "ncg" and "ancg" produce completely different results.

I downloaded it and opened zip to see if it had separate tar files for modem and such. It's just one tar file, and given that I didn't know it was option to pull out individual components and tar them (nor do I know how to do this as I don't know file locations/names), I figured it wasn't correct file...
