How to "downgrade" to Kitkat on lollipop (PB1 bootloader) NCG Safestrap Working - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

How to "downgrade" to Kitkat on lollipop (PB1 bootloader) NCG Safestrap Working
If you took the OTA for lollipop (PB1) you are no longer able to downgrade to any version of kitkat with a standard tar it will fail because of a tripped qfuse but this way you can pretty much downgrade to kitkat. You will just have PB1 bootloader.
FYI I did this on a CID 11 locked bootloader Verizon S5
1. Download these files
NCG Kernel: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952612346 (Tar is in .zip file)
NCG Modem: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952612348 (Tar is in .zip file)
NCG Stock Tar: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952612350 (Tar is in .zip file)
Towelroot apk: https://Towelroot.com/
Get safestrap from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793891
2.
-Open flashfire grant it root access then click the plus in the bottom right hand corner and click flash firmware package choose the NCGStocktar.md5
-make sure boot, recovery, system and cache are selected make sure modem firmware and firmware are unchecked then click the checkmark
-look for process cache click it and uncheck Enable and allow cache wipe then click the check mark
-click everroot and uncheck inject SuperSu
-then click Reboot and choose Download
- then click the plus again and choose wipe make sure System Data, 3rd Party apps, dalvik cache, cache partition, cache partition format
-Click and hold on wipe and drag it above flash firmware package
-then click flash and click ok when it says it will go black for a second if its black for more than a minute pull the battery and retry
3.
-once in download mode open Odin on PC (if it doesnt go to download and attempts to boot pull battery and manually go into download)
-verify the device shows up under ID:COM
-now click options and uncheck auto reboot
-now choose NCG stock kernel in ap slot and click start this will flash the kitkat kernel
-when its done unplug the phone from the computer and pull the battery
-then when the battery is back in hold volume down, home and power all together until you see download mode
-click reset in odin then select the NCG Stock Modem in ap slot then click start
-when odin is finished the device should reboot and attempt to boot kitkat
4.
-when kitkat is booted download towelroot from the phone or copy it from the pc to your phone and install the apk
-open towel root and click make it rain it should say no reboot required
-now download supersu from playstore
-open it and click update su binary then click reboot
-now donwload busybox from the play store and install it
-now download the safestrap NCG apk file install it open it and accept the license agreement now click install safestrap
-then click reboot to recovery it should reboot your phone to safestrap
Thanks @klabit87 and @al50 for helping me find and test this method.

Nice work and GREAT Thread to start for one's that don't know of this or the experience to do so or of completely the 'how-to-do'...:good:

What is the reason for Safestrap in this case? Is it necessary for just the downgrading to 4.4?
I used Safestrap some time ago to load a second rom on my S3. Does Safestrap have the same purpose for the S5?
Thank you very much. This is clearly written and should be easy to follow if I need to do so.

You can restore back to PB1 just flash the tar in odin you won't be stuck on kitkat I no longer have my galaxy S5 but I can try to help you if you run into any issues.

Sorry I somehow missed your reply no it's not necessary for the downgrade it's just nice to have if you have a Verizon S5 that can't be unlocked.

Does this method work if OS was updated to MM (assuming I revert to LL first)?
Links for files listed in OP are no longer working - any idea where I can get them?

1... Great, thank you.
2... Done. No joy.
Been searching for other possibilities, finding only dead links to AFH.
AFH search for "ncg" shows:
20140409_G900V-NCG_MODEM.tar.md5
20140409_G900V-NCG_MODEM_NON-HLOS.tar.md5
NCG_Firmware_No_Bootloaders_V3.zip
Hmm, AFH search engine is quirky. Search for "NCG_Firmware" includes:
VRU1ANCG_FIRMWARE_ONLY.tar.md5
AFH search for G900V_NCG includes:
G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5
I'm hoping/guessing that (please correct me if I'm wrong):
"NCG Modem" [file from OP] = 20140409_G900V-NCG_MODEM.tar.md5
"NCG Kernel" = G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5
NCG_Firmware_No_Bootloaders_V3.zip does not contain a tar, but directions in OP indicate firmware should be flashed via flashfire (vs odin for others), so I'm assuming that this can be flashed instead. So:
"NCG Stock Tar" = NCG_Firmware_No_Bootloaders_V3.zip
Will these work? If yes I will post links to files.

I suggested searching for "ancg", not for "ncg".
You were supposed to find G900VVRU1ANCG_G900VVZW1ANCG_G900VVRU1ANCG_HOME.zip - a stock firmware file.
Additional search for modem and kernel is not necessary because you can easily pull them from this stock firmware and pack into tar-files.
7zip will do this for you under Windows.
P.S.
Hmm, AFH search engine is quirky.

It looks quirky, probably.
But as a good search engine it should index all those filenames somehow.
I suspect that it splits filenames in letter/non-letter points and indexes all those parts after this.
At least, this theory explains why searching for "ncg" and "ancg" produce completely different results.

I did search for "ANCG" and I did find G900VVRU1ANCG_G900VVZW1ANCG_G900VVRU1ANCG_HOME.zip.
I downloaded it and opened zip to see if it had separate tar files for modem and such. It's just one tar file, and given that I didn't know it was option to pull out individual components and tar them (nor do I know how to do this as I don't know file locations/names), I figured it wasn't correct file...

Will be interesting to hear from you.
Search AFH for "ANK2" and use 7zip archiver to deal with tar-files.

I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM & I337_MK2toNB1_KeepRoot_OTA.zip

The following is not a root method in the "traditional" sense, e.g. Saferoot, Kingo. This is a workaround to our inability to root KitKat 4.4.2. However the end result is a Fully Functioning, 100% Stock, Rooted, NB1 Device. (See Post# 2 for "KeepRoot"OTA.zip Method). Proceed at Your Own Risk! (Thanks to @ted77usa @rebel1699 @Maribou @dave5777 @dolph8886 @Surge1223 @jeboo for discoveriing it was possible to downgrade from MK2 to NB1. Special thanks to @rebel1699 for figuring out how to flash a 4.4 SS Custom ROM on our device. Without them this workaround would not be possible).
**Closing my thread now that a direct rooting method is available. Congrats to Everyone mentioned above for your accomplishments while we waited for this!** : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
**Note**: The process below has been proven to work without exception when the instructions are followed to the letter. Should you run into trouble please consider re-reviewing the instructions to identify your error before requesting assistance. Thank you.
Get the latest I337 firmware here: I337UCUFNC1
Donations Welcome!
Here it is: I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM
And here: I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROMwBL (This version contains the NB1 bootloader. MK2 bootloader users will not be able to go back to factory stock MK2 after flashing).
1. Place the I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM in the root of your ext sdcard.
*2. Download the I337_Downgrade_to_MK2 file, extract the .tar and flash in PDA slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+) to obtain semi-functioning(no-wifi) MK2.
3. Use your favorite root method to root MK2, e.g. Saferoot, Kingo Root App, then install the latest Safestrap-JFLTE-3.72-kk-B01.apk.
4. Boot into Safestrap recovery, perform an "Advanced Wipe", and wipe everything except ext sdcard.
5. Flash the ROM zip in the "Stock Slot." Once complete press "Home," then reboot into "Download Mode".
6. Flash the I337_NB1_Stock_Kernel in PDA slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+).
*MK2 users can skip Step 2.
Once complete the phone will apply an update to cache, then reboot and pause on the white AT&T splash screen for about 1-2 minutes before completely rebooting. Done!
- MK2 users can use Safestrap's Backup/Restore function to backup and restore User Data prior to and after flashing the ROM. Make sure and thank @loganfarrell for discovering this very useful feature.
- In general, to flash a different 4.4.2 Safestrap Custom ROM after flashing this ROM reboot into Safestrap recovery, perform an advanced wipe, and wipe everything but ext sdcard. Then flash the new ROM in the "Stock Slot" and reboot (Refer to the other ROM's dedicated thread for any additional requirements or for assistance. Please limit the discussion in this thread to the 100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM and the KeepRoot OTA zip).
- To go back to factory stock, un-rooted NB1 flash the NB1 4.4.2 Stock Odin .tar in the PDA slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+).
- Those that never took the MK2 to NB1 update can return to factory stock MK2 by flashing the MK2 All-in-One Full Odin .tar in PDA slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+).
Known Issue: MK2 bootloader users will experience a lockscreen settings issue. The issue can be resolved by flashing the FMLD_Bootloader in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+). You will still be able to revert back to factory stock MK2. Caution!: NB1 & NC1 bootloader users should not flash this file as it may hardbrick your phone.
I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_TetherAddOn
Instructions:
1. After flashing and booting into I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM,
2. Place the AddOn in ext sdcard.
3. Reboot into Safestrap recovery and flash the AddOn in Stock Slot (Do Not Wipe Prior to Flashing)
4. Reboot. Done!
I337UCUFNB1_MK2-to-NB1_KeepRoot_OTA.zip Method
This alternative "Keep Root" method uses a modified version of the official MK2 to NB1 OTA Update.zip to upgrade while maintaining User Data and Root Access! The file is flashed in Safestrap and the end result is a 100% Stock, Rooted, NB1 Device. Proceed at your own risk! Thanks to @jeboo for giving me the idea to develop this method!
**Prerequisite** This method requires that your MK2 system is 100% stock except for root and Safestrap. The update will fail if any MK2 system files have been modified or deleted, e.g. thru Xposed, etc. You must first restore the stock files or reflash back to stock MK2 and re-root.
Here it is: I337_MK2toNB1_KeepRoot_OTA.zip
And here: I337_MK2toNB1_KeepRoot_OTAwBL.zip (This version contains the NB1 bootloader. MK2 bootloader users will not be able to go back to factory stock MK2 after flashing).
1. Place the I337UCUFNB1_MK2toNB1_KeepRoot_OTA.zip in the root of your ext sdcard.
2. Follow steps 2 - 3 from Post# 1 to downgrade to MK2, root, and install the latest Safestrap-JFLTE-3.72-kk-B01.apk .
3. Boot into Safestrap recovery but Do Not Wipe!.
4. Flash the I337UCUFNB1_MK2toNB1_KeepRoot_OTA.zip in the "Stock Slot" and once complete press "Home" and reboot into "Download Mode".
5. Last, flash the I337_NB1_Stock_Kernel in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
Once complete the phone will reboot to the white AT&T splash screen then "optimize apps" before completely rebooting. Done!
Known Issue: Safestrap.apk will force close after updating to 4.4.2 using this method, however Safestrap recovery will continue to function. Optional: to manually uninstall Safestrap recovery use Es File Explorer to delete system/etc/safestrap and system/bin/e2fsck then rename system/bin/e2fsck.bin to e2fsck (save these files if you wish to manually reinstall Safestrap at a later time).
I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_TetherAddOn
Instructions:
1. After flashing and booting into I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM,
2. Place the AddOn in ext sdcard.
3. Reboot into Safestrap recovery and flash the AddOn in Stock Slot (Do Not Wipe Prior to Flashing)
4. Reboot. Done!
Nice bro. Easy to follow and all. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the issues people are having.

@muniz_ri ur saying here to put the file in the PDA slot correct which mean using odin3 v 1.85 correct. If so that might be my problem in the past with this down grade method I used odin3 v 3.09 and flashed the pit and AP files from @ted77usa downgrade method. Do you think that could be my problem. And again thank you so much for all your help lately I know it has to be annoying but thank you so much for walking me through so much stuff because of you I feel very confident in doing this so thank you for all your help. Also thanks you to all the other dev's that I have been such a pain in the but to hahah

No problem. I believe Odin changed the name of the PDA slot to AP in version 3.09. I use version 3.08 but whichever version you use you don't need to add the pit file. Just follow the above process to the letter and you should be fine. Good luck.

[How-To] Update to I337_OK2 - 5.0.1 and KeepRoot

**You can begin the following process from any 4.4.x Build/ROM or higher but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW.
**Caution!** The following process is only for the AT&T I337 S4 Variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
Downloads:
- I337_OK2_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip
- I337_OK2_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_ROM.zip
Attention! Set your screen timeout to 10mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set Reboot setting to "Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the I337_OK2_Bootloader.tar.md5 using Odin's PDA/AP slot. Done!
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the AT&T splash screen for about 1 - 2 minutes (15 - 20 mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Optional:
- I337_OK2_TetherAddOn.zip
- I337_OC3_Batch_Debloater (Customizable)
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. If you are not already rooted (or to unbrick) you must first flash the I337UCUFNB1_Rootable_Full_Odin.tar (use Odin's PDA slot (AP in Odin v3.09+), root with Towelroot, then proceed with the above process.
5. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

Instructions:
1. Extract the I337_OC3_Stock_Rooted_Backup from the .rar archive and place it into the following folder: ext-sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/xxxxxx, fyi...the name of this folder will vary. If the folder does not already exist you must first use safestrap to create a nandroid backup and Safestrap will create the folder for you.
2. From Safestrap recovery press "Wipe" then "Advanced Wipe" and wipe everything but your ext-sdcard.
3. From the main menu press "Restore," then select and restore the I337_OC3_Stock_Rooted_Backup.
4. Once complete from the main menu press "Reboot," then reboot into "Download" mode.
5. Last, flash the I337_OC3_Stock_Partitions using Odin's PDA slot (AP in Odin v3.09+) and reboot. Done!
Upon reboot the Safestrap Recovery splash screen will flash a few times before pausing on the AT&T splash screen for about 2 minutes before completely rebooting. **You will no longer be able to access Safestrap Recovery from 5.0 (see notes below for workaround)**
Optional Tethering AddOn:
1. Place the I337_OC3_TetherAddOn onto your ext-sdcard.
2. From Safestrap recovery press "Install," then select and install the I337_OC3_TetherAddOn(Do not wipe prior to flashing!).
3. Reboot. Done!
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. This process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Stock Recovery, and Bootloader to OC3 (BusyBox is also pre-installed).
3. Safestrap will no longer function after updating to 5.0. However you can access Safestrap recovery by flashing back the I337_NJ4_Stock_Kernel (reflash the I337_OC3_Stock_Kernel once you are done using Safestrap).
4. The most common cause of an Odin flash failure is a bad usb port or cable. Please check before reporting a failure!

[How-To] Update to G900V_PF4 - 6.0.1

**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
Downloads:
- G900V_PF4_Stock_ROM.zip (For "Locked" Bootloaders - Unrooted)
- G900V_PF4_Stock_Deodexed_Debloated_ROM.zip (For "Locked" Bootloaders - Unrooted)
- G900V_PF4_Stock_Rooted_ROM.zip (For "Unlocked" Bootloaders Only!)
- G900V_PF4_Stock_Deodexed_Debloated_Rooted_ROM.zip (For "Unlocked" Bootloaders Only!)
Instructions for "Locked" Bootloaders:
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" setting to "Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the **flash.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the G900V_PF4_Bootloader using Odin's PDA/AP slot.
**The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition.
Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Verizon splash screen for 1 - 2 minutes (10 - 15 mins for deodexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Instructions for "Unlocked" Bootloaders: (Your Knox Warranty Bit will be tripped!)
1. Use the following guide however the above ROM's for "Unlocked" Bootloaders are pre-"system rooted," therefore there is no need to flash the SuperSu .zip file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Notes:
1. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Recovery, and Bootloader.
2. Native tethering is enabled on all of the ROM's.
3. No need to wipe prior to flashing, the ROM will automatically wipe User Data.
4. The Debloated version has all Google, most Verizon, and all Knox apps removed.
5. If you do not already have root access follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
6. To learn more about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60070810&postcount=2

Use FF's backup function to backup then restore your data after flashing.
Confirmed that after about 7min on the VZW boot animation, the deodexed version works just fine.
I wonder how long we'll get away with using the OD5 bootloader. lol.

This strikes me as very important information that should be included in the steps before it instead of being a footnote. Can anyone clarify the complete steps/process? Also, any idea what the changelog is?
EDIT: I'm on the rooted OD5 ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...w-to-update-to-g900vod5-5-0-keeproot-t3136945 Just trying to make head or tail of the instructions in this post. Do I need to flash the OD5 bootloader since I'm already on OD5, or what?
I'm a little confused why the first 3 steps in the FlashFire process is necessary (Google+ signup part) when you include the link for v19 just below, am i missing something here? Also, not being familiar with FlashFire, once i flash OE1 will i be given the option to boot into download mode to Odin the OD5 bootloader? I'm coming from OC4 so order is crucial here I'd imagine. Another also, i generally like deodexed roms, any caveats associated with this one? advanced voice features? My Verizon access? Thanks

I left the links to the FF thread for reference as it contains good discussion re: FF's progress.
As for the bootloader instructions, I will add the steps to the instructions. I mistakenly assumed most people already had that level of understanding.
And the deodexed version is only intended for those that plan to use xposed or themes. If you do not plan on doing either use the regular rom.

Thanks for the link, but I still have the same problem with it that I had on the OD5 thread: Checksum mismatch. I tried 3 different mirrors. Either it's a bad file or a bad checksum.

Although I would recommend just following the backup/restore method as it is faster and safer, you could open the ROM with Winzip/7zip, navigate through the META-INF folder until you get to the updater-script, then open it with Notepad, and remove this part of the script:
package_extract_file("wipedata.sh", "/tmp/wipedata.sh");
set_perm(0, 0, 0755, "/tmp/wipedata.sh");
run_program("/tmp/wipedata.sh");
then save the file and if you used Winzip, close the program and choose "Update Zip file with changes". If you used 7zip, when you close Notepad, it will ask if you want to update the file in the archive and just choose "Okay".

[N900] ALL-IN-ONE Guide[Root/Recovery/ROM/Knox Reset(claim warranty)/Revert-to-Stock]

Note: There are a lot of guides all over XDA-Fourm for the things that i am going to share in this thread, I am just trying to get all the things at one place and in easy manner, so i request you to please don't ask why another thread . I have mirrored all the files in this thread to my own Drive links so that it would be available till i die , you can find the original links in References at the end.
I am just a normal user, been through all of the things mentioned below just like many of you, but there are still users who are new to all these stuff. So i thought of getting all the things at one place and write the steps in a layman's language. If there is something wrong and needs to be changed, do mention that.
This guide is for the Exynos version of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 only which includes:
How to Root
How to Install recovery
How to Flash a new ROM
How to install Xposed on TouchWiz based ROMs (5.0 and 5.0.2)
How to Reset KNOX & Revert to Stock (to claim warranty)
Downloads:
1. Odin v3.07(odin application- needed to flash stuff)
2. USB Drivers(drivers for windows)
3. 'CF-Auto-Root' file by @Chainfire(to root)
4. Bootloader to Reset KNOX counter
5. TWRP Recovery (Use this when you have to flash CM based ROMS)
6. CWM 6.0.7.0 OR Philz Touch 6.47.7 (use these when you have to flash TouchWiz based ROMs)
7. Stock Firmware - from Sammobile Mirror for N900XXUEBOE3_N900ODDEBOB2_INS.zip (Indian Version)
8. XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4 (Tried and tested)
9. xposed-v65-sdk21-arm-arter97-V5-generic OR xposed-v75-sdk21-arm-arter97-exynos.zip (Works with the latest N900ZSUEBOK3 firmware)
Step 0. Backup
Take backup of your contents (contacts, messages, images, videos, etc.)
Step 1. Getting things ready
Download & Extract and Install USB Drivers 1.5.20.
Download & Extract Odin v3.07.
Download CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.tar.md5 (make sure you get a file with .md5 extension).
Step 2. Connection
Run Odin on your PC (as administrator).
Turn off your phone.
Keeping the volume down and home button pressed, turn on your phone.
Get into download mode by pressing volume up after you are asked on the phone screen.
After all the above, connect phone with USB cable to PC.
One of the box will turn yellow and confirm that the phone is connected
Step 3. Root (KNOX will show change in counter, but you can always reset that when you need to claim warranty)
Choose PDA in Odin and select the .md5 file extracted in step 1 (don't change anything else in odin)
Press “Start”, the process will complete in few seconds and phone will automatically restart.
Congrats!! You rooted your phone, you will get a SuperSu app in the app drawer.
Step 4. Custom Recovery
In Odin choose PDA and select any of the two recovery as per your need:
twrp-2.8.7.0-ha3g.tar
OR
n900-cwm6.0.7.0.tar (philz zip file is not odin compatible, you can flash it within the recovery)
the press “Start”
Step 4.1 Full Backup (Similar to Restore Point - only after flashed a custom recovery)
Turn off the phone
Keeping the volume up and home button pressed, turn on the phone, you will get to recovery.
Go to Backup & Restore and choose backup to sdcard or backup to extSdCard (will take about 10-15 minutes)
Now you have a restore point, you can go back to this state whenever you want.
Step 5. Flashing a new ROM (if you want to)
Although you must always refer the individual ROM thread as they may have some different steps, but this is a general way to flash a ROM
Download the ROM (zip file) and copy to internal/external storage on your phone.
Turn off the phone
Keeping the volume up and home button pressed, turn on the phone, you will get to recovery.
Follow as per your choice of clean or dirty flash (in the Note)
Then choose install zip, select your ROM, then “yes”
reboot the phone.
Done. You have a new ROM
Note: Clean install/flash means - wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (sometimes wipe system too) then install ROM.
Dirty install/flash means – direct install without wiping any partition
Step 6. Install Xposed -only for 5.0 or 5.0.2 ROMS (if you want to, you will need a deodexed rom, won't work on stock odexed roms)
Download the XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4 & xposed-v65-sdk21-arm-arter97-V5-generic and copy both the files to your phone (internal or sd-card).
Install the XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk but don't run the app.
Restart your phone into Recovery Mode. (turn off then pressing volume up + home and turn on)
choose install a zip, select the xposed-v65-sdk21-arm-arter97-V5-generic.zip or xposed-v75-sdk21-arm-arter97-exynos.zip
reboot your phone. (you will get android is upgrading which will take a while)
Step 7. Revert to stock with KNOX counter as 0x0 and system state as Official (you can claim warranty comfortably)
a. Download and Extract the bootloader.zip
b. Run Odin
c. Turn off your phone.
d. Keeping the volume down and home button pressed, turn on your phone.
e. Get into download mode by pressing volume up after you are asked on the phone screen.
f. Connect phone with USB cable to PC.
g. Choose PDA in Odin and select the Bootloader.tar file. (don't change anything else on odin)
h. Press “Start”, the process will complete in few seconds and phone will automatically restart.
i. Go to download mode and check if the Knox has turned back to 0.
j. Now choose PDA on odin and select the official firmware (download from the above provided link) and press Start
k. After completion of the process let the device start but don't setup the device, just turn it off.
l. Reboot to stock recovery by pressing vol up + home + power and wipe data/cache and flash the firmware again, once flashing the firmware is completed enter download mode and check if current binary and system status has turned to official. If not repeat the process from step j.

yes, you can get the KNOX to 0 whenever you want (there is nothing like hardware fuse). i have done that thrice

I have no idea about S6, you may ask in the s6 forum and there you might get your answer

Great guide - helped me a lot with my first root - thanks!
thank you
you are the best
Changes:
Added new Xposed v75 link that works with the latest stock firmware - N900ZSUEBOK3 (deodexed), as previous version was giving boot loop with alexega deodexed rom.
For the 5.0.1/5.0.2 based aurora roms (s6/note5) port you can use previous version provided (v65) and the apk is the same - XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4

He can't. He has a CID11xxxx eMMc chip.
I remember back when you couldn't downgrade after OE1. It's good it we can now. I'm on PB1 everything with unlocked bootloader. Wonder if I can simply boot to recovery and flash a KK from and KK kernel.
I confirmed it is working
I confirmed it is working i have a recovery lock that wont go away pretty much the same as a locked bootloader good work!

Confirmed
Confirmed this works. I was stuck because i couldn't take the reactivation lock off but with these instructions i went back to NCG and was able to take it off. After taking reactivation lock off i rooted with towel root and unlocked the bootloader. Then flashed a rooted PF4 rom with TWRP!!

Were you able to unlock the bootloader on a CID11 chip? Meaning CID11's can be unlocked if they are on KitKat?

No chaging to kitkat will not allow you to unlock the bootloader on Toshiba chips sorry. gave away my Toshiba s5 and got a 15 CID Verizon Note 4 and unlocked it.
I would recommend maybe clarify your guide for readability as I found it somewhat confusing just a humble suggestion

Ok so i managed to boot kitkat on PB1 bootloader safestrap works perfectly
I was on stock PB1 rooted and flashed NCGStocktar.md5 without a bootloader in flashfire the tar wouldnt flash in odin it would fail before writing anything then i rebooted into download mode before it booted and flashed NCG kernel then NCG Modem and rebooted set it up and rooted with towelroot and then installed safestrap apk and everything worked like its supposed to
1. Open Flashfire Grant it root access Click the plus in the bottom right hand corner and click flash firmware package choose the NCGStocktar.md5 and let it verify the MD5 then make sure boot, recovery, system and cache are selected make sure modem firmware and firmware are on checked then click the check mark in the top right hand corner then look for process cache click it and uncheck Enable and allow cache wipe then click that check mark then click everroot and uncheck inject SuperSu then click the check mark and then click Reboot and choose Download then click The plus again and choose Wipe make sure System Data, 3rd Party apps, dalvik cache, cache partition, cache partition format then click flash and click ok when it says it will go black for a second if its black for more than a minute pull the battery and retry
2. Once In Download Mode open odin and make sure your device shows up under ID:COM it should be like blue now click options and uncheck auto reboot and in AP choose the NCG Stock Kernel then click start then once thats done it shouldnt reboot click reset then choose the NCG Stock Modem then pull battery and power on the phone.
3.Set it up like new then install Towelroot and click make it rain it should say rooted no reboot required go to the play store and download SuperSU and open it it should say update SU binary click ok and choose normal Method once its done click reboot then download busybox and grant it root access then install it then download safestrap apk and grant safestrap root access then accept the license agreement and click install Safestrap Then click reboot to recovery and you should be in safestrap then choose system then reboot in safestrap and let it boot it will say safestrap disabled just click continue or wait 10 seconds and there you go you have kitkat
