[Q] Installing rom without wiping all data - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
Recently I was browsing some threads about the new note 10.1 (2012) update and I found a rom based on the latest firmware 4.4.2 kit kat. I really liked the fact that it had the note 10.1 (2014) features built-in.

There's only one downside to this rom (like all custom roms ), it needs a full wipe. But I'm a bit lazy and I don't want to backup all my apps and restore all data. I know it's based on a firmware update and normal updates don't need a full wipe. So is it possible to flash this rom without losing all my apps and without wiping everything?
I read something about only clearing Dalvik and cache, but I want to be sure. I'm on clockwork recovery and have the stock Gt-n8010 rom.
Thanks in advanced

[Q] Updating A ROM

I currently have a custom ROM (Axura on Vibrant) and I"m wondering when I want to update the ROM do I have to competely wipe the device again or just install the ROM over the current one and their wont be any problems and all current data will remain?

[Q] Sideload another ROM

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the Forum and figured I'll just post my question here.
I'm running a nightly of AICP 7.0 on my Nexus 5. I previously ran Lollipop but discovered that it drained a lot more battery than KK so I switched back. Now I want to try the Cataclysm Lollipop ROM, but I don't want to install all my apps again or wipe my current ROM. Is it possible to just sideload the Cataclysm ROM over my existing AICP ROM via TWRP Sideload function? If not, you guys have any clue how to do this? The main reason I want to sideload and/or install without losing my apps is because I want the Google Cards and Google Now to work for me which it doesn't in Lollipop. I previously ran KK and sideloaded the Lollipop image and that left me with all my apps and Google Now as it is and everything was good (expect for the battery drain and camera FC on Lollipop)
Any help on this would be much appreciated

sideloading in twrp means to put the file on your phone via adb. what you want to do is dirty flash. first, make a nandroid backup in your recovery(in case dirty flashing doesnt go well, then you can restore your old rom). then download and flash the other rom in your recovery(su and gapps also). by dirty flashing, you dont lose data. if your dirty flash didnt go well, you can restore your nandroid backup.

[Q] Flashing Custom Rom

Hi
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy s2 GT-I9100, I have copied over to my phone the nessessary files to flash a custom Kitkat based rom (Rom, Kitkat compatible CWM and Gapps) my question is simple, is it possible to flash the rom etc without wiping the data and factory reset etc?
Cheers
yes, it is
Rom installed but a little niggle exists
Ok
I have used CyanogenMod's brilliant online utility to install the latest KitKat rom 4.4.4, all is fine except that I have some contact details missing. I backed everything up using Kies the night before I installed KitKat, but now Kies doesn't want to connect with my phone even though I have enabled USB Debugging.
Is there any other way I can retrieve the missing contacts?
Cheers
I usually wipe.

[Q] CAN WE restore stock 5.0.1 recovery on CM12 5.0.2?

Hi everyone
I have a nexus 5 running on stock rom (5.0.1) & I want to install the latest nightly CM12 ROM.
I just wanna know if, after that, I'll be able to restore my apps & data from a backup I already did with TWRP custom recovery?
Thanks
It should work as far as I know. You just have to restore the data partition

Is an up to date bootloader necessery and can it causes bug in CM?

Hi I am currently on the canadian note 4. I am having some difficulty with cyanogenmod 12.1 lately so I wanted to move to CMRemix for better stability. The Installation guide ask the bootloader and the modem to be updated, I am doing that by reverting to an up to date stock rom and then installing CMRemix (Odin did not want flash for some reason.)
What I understand from the bootloader is that it is like the BIOS on a PC. Can my not up to date bootloader be causing the bug on CM 12.1? I am having the bluetooth crash bug and an overall slow system. CM also does not seem to work to well with spotify.
I am not an expert but I have been running custom rom for 3 years on my note 4 and note 2.
Thanks

Odin didn't want to flash the stock ROM???
Flash a stock ROM with Odin. Then flash a custom recovery like TWRP. Then do an advanced wipe and wipe cache delvik, system, data. The bluetooth could be unstable on CM12. You can look for a stable ROM and flash that if you're looking for everything to work flawlessly

I tried flashing the modem and bootloader, not the entire firmware. I ended up installing the stock firmware in the end. I am doing the updates now and will install CMRemix shortly after
I always go stock before I flash a new ROM. Best way unless directed otherwise
