[Q] CAN WE restore stock 5.0.1 recovery on CM12 5.0.2? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
I have a nexus 5 running on stock rom (5.0.1) & I want to install the latest nightly CM12 ROM.
I just wanna know if, after that, I'll be able to restore my apps & data from a backup I already did with TWRP custom recovery?
Thanks

It should work as far as I know. You just have to restore the data partition

[Q] From stock to CM and back with CWM?

Hi,
i got a GT-N8000 here and wanted to know (before i do anything) is it possible to backup the stock ROM, flash cyanogenmod and go back to stock ROM when needed in some way?
I would prefere to use CWM for flashing CM but with my phone (LG P880) it was not possbile to boot the stock ROM with a CWM bootloader. Is it also like this for the GT-N8000?
Thanks in advance.
Wrong question here?

Cant update Android..

I have a rooted Moto G phone. It is android 4.3 , I cant update it to 4.4.2 Kitkat for some reason.
I saved Kitkat to the SD Card, loaded into Recovery mode on the MOTO, then tried to install Android 4.4.2 from the .zip file
saved on the SD card in my phone.
I cant get this to work and i tried to install CARBON ROM the same way with out any results.. it says ERROR and fails to install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ALSO does android need to be updated to 4.4.2 to install CARBON ROM?
Thanks
I don't know but maybe can help...
I could update successfully to last minor 176.44.1 update only after flashing stock recovery.img from my exact stock ROM.
after rooting process on KitKat motoG my recovery was modified, restoring the stock one worked for me. I just updated ota normally in WiFi without problems.
after that I flashed cwm recovery.
I restored to stock recovery and removed root. After that applied KitKat OTA, then flashed custom recovery and re-rooted.
Sent from my Moto G using Tapatalk
this involve wiping of all data and a factory reset, so first try just restoring the stock recovery.
If not working make a good backup first.
If the phone is rooted, OTA updates do not work afaik...

Flashing a ROM overwrites system partition completely. You could have android version 1 running and still just flash another ROM

[Q] Sideload another ROM

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the Forum and figured I'll just post my question here.
I'm running a nightly of AICP 7.0 on my Nexus 5. I previously ran Lollipop but discovered that it drained a lot more battery than KK so I switched back. Now I want to try the Cataclysm Lollipop ROM, but I don't want to install all my apps again or wipe my current ROM. Is it possible to just sideload the Cataclysm ROM over my existing AICP ROM via TWRP Sideload function? If not, you guys have any clue how to do this? The main reason I want to sideload and/or install without losing my apps is because I want the Google Cards and Google Now to work for me which it doesn't in Lollipop. I previously ran KK and sideloaded the Lollipop image and that left me with all my apps and Google Now as it is and everything was good (expect for the battery drain and camera FC on Lollipop)
Any help on this would be much appreciated

sideloading in twrp means to put the file on your phone via adb. what you want to do is dirty flash. first, make a nandroid backup in your recovery(in case dirty flashing doesnt go well, then you can restore your old rom). then download and flash the other rom in your recovery(su and gapps also). by dirty flashing, you dont lose data. if your dirty flash didnt go well, you can restore your nandroid backup.

Swapping between 4.4.4 and 5.0

I'm rooting and running Dirty Unicorn 4.4.4 ROM.
If I flash a ROM that's using Android 5.0 and use it for a while can I then just flash a ROM using 4.4.4 and not have any issues? I guess i'm asking if it's possible to just flash any working ROM running on either 4.4.4 or 5.0 (swapping between them) and it work?
You'll need to wipe going between 4.4 and 5.0 custom ROM. Once you've set up new ROM once, and have Nandroid backups of both, you can go back and forth

Wiped OS from Samsung, can't boot

I've accidentally erased the OS off of my Galaxy S5 while in TWRP, and was wondering how I would be able to install Lollipop back on it.
what is your model name?

You could
1) restore a backup if you ever made one:silly:
2) flash stock ROM (this will wipe your data though)
3)or if you're not that picky download a custom Rom(like cyanogen) of android 5 along with gapps and flash them in twrp (this will be choice if hadn't made any backup that I could restore)
