Is an up to date bootloader necessery and can it causes bug in CM? - General Questions and Answers

Hi I am currently on the canadian note 4. I am having some difficulty with cyanogenmod 12.1 lately so I wanted to move to CMRemix for better stability. The Installation guide ask the bootloader and the modem to be updated, I am doing that by reverting to an up to date stock rom and then installing CMRemix (Odin did not want flash for some reason.)
What I understand from the bootloader is that it is like the BIOS on a PC. Can my not up to date bootloader be causing the bug on CM 12.1? I am having the bluetooth crash bug and an overall slow system. CM also does not seem to work to well with spotify.
I am not an expert but I have been running custom rom for 3 years on my note 4 and note 2.
Thanks

Odin didn't want to flash the stock ROM???
Flash a stock ROM with Odin. Then flash a custom recovery like TWRP. Then do an advanced wipe and wipe cache delvik, system, data. The bluetooth could be unstable on CM12. You can look for a stable ROM and flash that if you're looking for everything to work flawlessly

I tried flashing the modem and bootloader, not the entire firmware. I ended up installing the stock firmware in the end. I am doing the updates now and will install CMRemix shortly after

I always go stock before I flash a new ROM. Best way unless directed otherwise

[Q] Custom ROMs won't boot

Hey guys, I've seen this issue before yet I've tried everything in a few threads now but have no idea what is happening,I have tried using search function yet no solution has fixed my problem.
Problem:
When installing custom ROMs the installation goes fine. I put the ROM on the sdcard, follow instructions for flashing e.g wipe data/cache etc and then flash GAPPS. However I get stuck on the boot logo of every ROM. I've tried both TWRP and CWM recoveries, both with no luck. Also tried not flashing GAPPS and just trying to flash the ROM to no avail.
Current state of phone:
The phone is currently running stock firmware via downloading factory image and flashing in boot-loader : stock boot, recovery, system image etc
The phone works fine when rooted on stock firmware. E.g no custom rom yet rooted.
Could really do with some help guys, any ideas?

same problem simple solution another user informed me of.
simply donwgrade to 4.3 JB stock rom through fastboot. Then you are able to flash a custm rom from the 4.3 stock rom.
Its crazy i have to do this but it worked for me, now im running the xperience rom which is a rom based on 4.4.2 kk.
the 4.3 android stock firmwares are linked somewhere in the FAQ's as well as the guide to ffastboot lash it.

Hey man, worked a charm thanks!
For users who may have the same problem:
After flashing 4.3 onto the device it did NOT boot.
- However I then went into the bootloader flashed custom recovery, I used cwm.
- Then I went into recovery, used adb to push the rom and gapps onto sdcard
- Full wipe and then installed rom. Then installed gapps
Working fine.
Cheers chairsz :good::good:

Is that wise? Going from a KK based rom (CM11), to a L based rom (CM12)?
I'd advise user to wipe data, maybe even update to stock LRX22C and from there, flash twrp and cm12.
If he has a clean CM11 installation he can easily flash CM12 without wiping anything.
If you're on stock ROM and apply the OTA update you're also going from KitKat to Lollipop without wiping anything.
Official statement:
You can flash CM12 nightlies directly from CM11 M12 or CM 11 nightlies (no need to wipe), provided you read and followed items 1 and 2

The OP's question was whether you could flash CM12 over CM11, not whether or not it would boot up

[SC-04E] How to Flash Custom Rom on SC-04E

This is a guide helping you install custom 9505 rom on SC-04E with android 4.42. Also it can be applied in 5.0.1 on level 2.
Through this thread, you can flash Omega, Echoe,MIUI or other 9505 roms.
Reason:
The SC-04E has almost the same driver as 9505 international version. The camera does not work when flashing any custom 9505(internal) rom.
However, we could flash the SC-04E keneral after flashing 9505. I have tried ten more 9505 rom, and succeed to flash the 9505 rom. Everything works perfect, including the camera and wifi.
All you need:
1. SC-04E mobile phone
2. Computer with Sumung driver
3. Flashing software odin 3.10
4.Stock Official 4.42 OB2 Rom
5.Custom Recovery
6.Custom 9505 Rom
7. SC-04E Keneral 4.42 OB2
Step:
1 Update the Stock Rom to the lastest 4.42 OB2 version.
2. Flash Recovery.
CWM Recovery or Philz Recovery is recommended.
3. Boot to recovery, Wpie date/factory reset, Wipe cache, advance-wipel dalvik cache.
4. Install zip from sdcard or sdcard1, select your downloaded 9505 custom rom and install.
5. After flashing the 9505 custom rom, boot to recovery
6. Install zip, select SC-04E Keneral OB2
7. Reboot and Enjoy it.

You can download the Baiduyun Application to downlad the related files. Problem might occur because it is a Chinese skydrive. And I will upload to other skydrive if Baiduyun skydirve does not work.
Please advise specific skydrive if you know.

Hi,i would really appreciate it if you could just spare some few minutes of your time to help me out with my phone.
So I bought this barely used Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505) from a guy. It came with android 4.2.2 and a boatloader/Baseband of SC04E0MUAMG2 and when I boot on it shows ntt-DoCoMo before booting up (so am guessing it was locked before, it came unlocked because every SIM I have tried has worked, and also it came rooted).
The issue is I really want to upgrade to Stock Lollipop or a custom lollipop rom like Aurora or Albe95 roms, but each time I try flashing a stock rom using Odin, it says fail (usually its when it gets to ' NAND write start, Auth fail '). Since Stock refused working I decided to try Flashing a custom rom using a custom recovery, it flashed successfully but when I tried flashing the modem and boatloader for the custom Rom, Odin would show fail again, I tried if on every port on my system and even unticked F.reset and auto-reset, but the result was still fail.
So I bought mobile odin pro to try out the stock again, it did install the stock but it was buggy, camera wasn't working, Mic wasn't working, the back button wasn't working. I just had to remove it. Currently am on Imperium 12.1 custom Rom( i installed it because it didn't require flashing modem and boatloader. The only problem is camera and Mic still won't work on this rom, but when I go back to the backed-up android 4.2.2 everything works fine. So yeah, that's my predicament. I am clueless as to what to do next so please help me out. I would really like to use a stock or custom Rom.
Am having a bit of an issue here, I followed the steps listed here to install a custom lollipop rom, I finally got my camera and microphone working after I flashed that Laneham but my wifi (which was working with the custom rom before) is refusing to work now. It won't come on. Is there any solution for that? Have tried doing a data reset and wiping my internal memory but to no avail.

If you want to use stock lollipop rom, you have to flash the lastest offical rom(SC04EOMUGOI4 ).
First, you flash the stock rom, you will find everything works well except back and menu button. If you have other problem(eg. wifi does not work), you may try flash the stock rom again.
Second, fix the back and menu button problem. You can find solution here.
Then, you can enjoy the stock lollipop rom.
If you want you try other custom rom based on lollipop rom. Please follow this post.
And you have mentioned, your odin did not work via PC, sometimes it is caused by usb cable. You can try with a replaced cable, buy one or two repalced usb calbe, and usually it will help you solve the problem.
If repalced usb cable can not work, you can try with other computers.

Lollipop ROMs will not boot up

So i've been running stable slimkat 9.0 (4.4.4) on my galaxy s3 and it has been working great. I want to upgrade it to lollipop but I've had trouble flashing any lollipop rom. CM12, AICP, OctOS, PacROM all fail to boot after I flash in recovery. The boot animation starts, and I get the screen that android apps are initializing. After it runs through the apps, the screen blacks out and the phone resets and the cycle continues.
I've had no issues flashing roms beforehand. I can go back to 4.4. and 4.3 ROMs both AOSP and Touchwiz without any problems. I've flashed with both clockwork mod and TWRP and the results are the same. I do a clean factory reset and wipe prior to flashing the rom and 5.1 gapps.
I have no idea why it won't boot up for me. Would appreciate any help!

Are you on the correct firmware? MF1? There is a flashable zip in the CM12.1 thread for it.
Updating the firmware did the trick, thanks! Was running on ML1 up til now. Glad my s3 can still keep up with the times

Why is my custom kernel being lost after flashing a new rom?

Hi all. I'm a bit of a noob who just really started digging into custom roms and rooting this month. A friend helped me root Lollipop when I first got this phone and I've been putting off updating to marshmallow for 6 months, but learned how over the past weekend and I'm loving it! Small problem, though, and I don't know if it's even a real one, but here it is. After all is said and done flashing the XstreStoLite 3.3.1 rom and Aroma add on pack, everything works fine, but the arter97 kernel is no longer listed as the active kernel, even though in XstreStoLite's settings when presented with the overwrite kernel option I always selected No. Is there a reason this is happening? Can I just reflash the kernel now, and is it safe to do so without brick in the phone? Does this rom or any other necessary apps/root features require the custom kernel? Thanks! This was my process in getting my phone up and running:
Factory reset
Flash stock 6.0.1 with Odin
Flash arter97 recovery with Odin
Recovery mode to flash arter97 kernel and superSU
Flash XstreStoLite in recovery, factory reset
Flash aroma addon
Additional random question I had: at what point, if any, should I be flashing the custom bootloader and modem, and does a factory reset/cache wipe delete those or is it one and done? Thank you!
The bootloader and modem flashing is needed if you want to move from 5.x lollipop to 6.x marshmallow.
If you are allready on 6.x there is no need.
If you lost your custom kernel you can reflash it in twrp and after wipe cache/dalvik cache.
If you flash the corect version of kernel the is no problem of softbrick.
Flash a 6.x kernel on a 6.x rom
