[Q] No vibration on shutdown - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello--I've been having a minor but strange problem lately: my phone doesn't vibrate when it shuts down.
I've tested this on different sound (vibrate/silent/normal) settings and no matter what my phone does not vibrate when it powers off.
I'm not sure when this started, i.e. if you're going to ask me whether this stared after an OTA or something
I remember some time in the distinct past it used to vibrate, and the nexus 4 and galaxy nexus I had before most certainly did that as well.
My phone still vibrates on all other occasions.
I am fully stock (4.4.3 KTU84M), rooted

My phone doesn't vibrate on shutdown either. Nothing to worry about..

Strange Turning off by itself

Hi I'm wondering if anyones come across this problem where the Tab turns itself off. After serveral attempts to turn it back on it wont. Only way is to plug the power plug in and then turn it on, the battery is on about 80% charged so there it has nothing to do with flat battery.
Before I plugged it into the power plug it seemed to be hotter at the back than usual. Its not overloading itself out is it??
Its happened a few times but nothing major just strange.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
It was on stock P6800XXKL1 but moved up to stock P6800XXLA3 both had the same problem before.
i have the P6810 completely stock and have seen this once
Does it go through shutdown sequence or just instantly lose power?
Try charging it for a few hours with it turned off?

It goes through the shutdown sequence. Don't think charging it when its off will make a difference but I give it a try.

random turn off Galaxy tab p6800 7.7
I have a stock 7.7 and there have been a number of times when i find it is off OR not responding immediately to the power switch when i pick it up to use it. Ie power switch doesnt turn on screen. I assume it has shut down.
Battery is full.
bluetooth, Gps & packet data off, Wifi on.
I have to hold the power button down for prox 30 sec and ot starts up and goes through normal boot up. I dont know whats causing this either.
On this device, what does "Off" mean? If you press the power switch, does it really turn off,
or is it suspended?
I.E., does it go through a boot process when you turn it on, or does the screen just come on?
This looks like the sleep of death also happening with the Tab7.7 as well as on the Galaxy Note.

From the manual:
To turn on your device, press and hold the Power key. If you
turn on your device for the first time, follow the on-screen
instructions to set up your device.
To turn off your device, press and hold the Power key and
select Power off → OK.
It goes through the boot sequence.
I bought this tab 2 weeks ago and it's happened about 4 or 5 times now. Basically I'll put it in sleep or standby or whatever you would like to call it. Then when I go to press the Power button again I'll find that the screen won't turn back on and I'll have to hold it and turn it back on as if it were off. This whole turning off automatically thing isn't as bad as it was on the Toshiba Thrive I had but still, it shouldn't be there. Especially for a what I suppose is a premium product like this, I mean around $500 AU isn't just a little bit of money.
Sorry if I sound kind of negative but I hope this gets patched or something, Toshiba took a good 3 months to patch the Thrive along with upgrading it to 3.1, lets hope the 7.7 doesn't take that long.
One of the main reasons I got this was that I trusted Samsung for support, not just for ICS but for updates and customer support as well.
Try replacing the launcher. TW sucks big time.

I was thinking I'm the only one had this problem.
The device looks dead/unresponsive instead of turned off. I've to hold the power button for 15 sec or longer to force reboot.
Another thing I've found is 7.7 seems to work well without SIM card installed, no such issue happened for days, but it happens much more frequently with SIM card inside, i.e. twice a day.
I assumed this may relate to 3G module/driver/baseband/etc, until now someone said it also happened on P6810.
Could it be a software or hardward glitch?
looks like sleep of death similar to 7+, also exynos.

I'm pretty sure it's a software glitch. In the Toshiba Thrive, it could be patched. They don't sell the 3G variant here in Aus so I wouldn't know if 3G affected the frequency of it lol.
I have had atleast two shutdowns aday but since I added an everyday alarm(silent one), I haven't had none and that's 6days with out.
I know this sounds strange but works for me.

I've had it happen once to me so far, about 24hrs after purchase since then it didnt occur again.
using my data only sim card, which was pretty old and worn out, it happened to me a couple of times
now im currently using my newly replaced sim card, never experienced a random reboot again

I've had my primary worn out simcard on my tab for a few days and no SOD yet, when it happened the first time there was also no simcard on it, Im sure this is the very same issue with the Note.
same for me on GTP6810
this is SOD as I got on my Nook Color with cyanogenmod ROM ...
after I installed ADW Launcher Ex no more SOD ... not sure is related to the launcher ... I'll edit this post if I get SOD with ADW
EDIT: just got SOD
have you guys tried to turn off wifi when the tab goes into sleep mode in the settings?
My sim card not detected im only able to used it for several hour. And the last attempt after restarting for several time the device able to detected it but for only 10-15 minutes then sim card removed notification appear while the sim card is still in there. This really piss me off.bcoz i just bought this device.

[Q] Sleep of Death?

Hey guys!
I just returned home and my Nexus 5 wouldn't react when I pressed the power button to wake it up. I pressed it shortly, then for some 10 seconds, no reaction. I thought the battery might have died, so I plugged in the charger, no reaction. After pressing the power button for 30 seconds or something like that, the phone finally started up.
I was listening to music the whole way home, so it must have happened when I unplugged the headphones or shortly after that. Is this something similar to the Nexus 4 SoD?
The phone works now as if it never happened, the battery is half full.
Has this happend to anyone before, too?
Side note: I have my Nexus 5 unlocked and rooted. Also the latest update is installed. No custom recovery.
Used Pandora radio for 4 hours today and its been fine. What app were you using?

Google Play Music :S Needs to be said that I listened to music 90 minutes straight, which cached some amount of data.
This just happened to me. Just bought the phone, performed the update . started looking through play store to manually reinstall my apps. Got side tracked , placed the phone down, came back 10 mins later, and it was off, pressed power for about 20 secs came back on?? As normal.
I bought this phone to replace my s4.
In the 4months I had my s4, I never had 1 issue!! This is worrying me

I found this happened to most my Android device Atleast ones, including my gs4 and nexus 7 flo. Don't know the cause but it hasn't happened on my Nexus 5 yet. I'm not worried anymore though since this happened to most of my device in the past. But yeah holding the power button until it restarts is the way to go.

I never had this with my SGS3 and my HTC One. Is this software related? I would be so pissed off if we were the ones with faulty hardware...

I never had problems with my GNex, however my wife's SGS3 one day started freezing (sleep of death style) and rebooting randomly. The problem was power saving mode following one of the updates. Does N5 have something similar?

I dont know, I cant really tell since I had my device for only 3 days now. But it seemed to be random, I just pulled it out of my pocked after a days work and it wouldn't turn on
Has anyone been able to alleviate this issue? I was having it happen every other day or so with Xposed installed. I uninstalled it, and it'll still happen when listening to Google Play Music. I've got a Nexus 4, rooted, with the latest update.
i am having a similar issue, but i think it's related to the bluetooth bug in android 4.4.2, whenever i send some file to other device and don't switch off the bluetooth before the device gets locked, then it's impossible to wake up the screen unless i press the power button for 10 secs, which causes the hard reboot. I know that phone is working as pressing the power button causes a vibration indicating that power menu has popped, but screen remains blank..
any of you guys having SoD using custom kernel like franco?
For those having the SOD issue, post a logcat after it happens and maybe someone can help

started happening to me too recently
Nexus 5 stock no root, 5.0.1
Only when using popcorn time, not all the time, when it wouldnt wake up, notification led was blinking. Everytime it froze, not led was blinking.
Might sound like cache going crazy or something. Phone wasnt hot at all.
Can i get a logcat without root?
Thx!
I am running stock right now and have had this issue for the past 2 weeks or so. multiple times a day. running a logcat, it's hard because you never know when it is going to happen. intermittent problems are the worst.
Guys, any success with identifying the root cause in your case?
I have the same now on my stock marshmallow (without root)

[Q] Nexus 5 vibrates then turns off randomly

I've noticed a problem that has happened twice with my new Nexus 5 so far - it will vibrate and then turn off. I don't know if it is going through its full shutdown sequence or not as what has happened is that the phone has not been in use, in my pocket once and I don't remember what the other time, and all of a sudden it vibrates once out of the blue, I go to check the phone and it is off. I can turn it back on again but find it weird that it seems to be crashing and then not even restarting - but being off. It is not rooted but the bootloader is unlocked so I can root in the future, if needed.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

[Q] nexus 5 keeps shutting down for no apparent reason

my nexus 5 d820 16 gigs would randomly shutdown for no reason, it wouldn't turn on without plugging it in. i was rooted and running cm11, then i tried carbon ROM, then c-ROM. c-ROM started to give me problems so i factory reset and switched to carbon but the problems remained. then i unrooted, thinking that root was the problem but no signs of improvement, so i re-locked the bootloader but still the problem remained. it would sometimes also shut down if i unplug it and would always forget my WiFi connection for some reason. help me please. thanks in advance.
Well sounds like a hardware problem since you already unroofed and relocked boot loader I would say call lg and get a warranty replacement

Sorry to bring this post back after a long time.
I had a similar but not exactly the same problem.
2 nights ago I left the phone on the table, and a few minutes later, when I picked it up, it was off (It had about 60% battery left when I put it down).
Then it would not wake up; I kept the power button pressed for like 20 seconds to force a shutdown, and then tried to power up with no luck, so I'm thinking I'm screwed.
I tried again and it powered up to a graphical noise screen as seen in the attached image, but then it showed the boot animation and came back to life.
This morning it shut off by itself while listening to music (Google play), but powered back on right away...
Rooted 4.4.4, stock ROM, Xposed with Greenify, Amplify and wakelock detector (all latest versions). But no changes for a couple weeks before this started happening.
No specific app running (at least in the foreground).
Any one knows where I can find any kind of log or trace about this, if any at all?
Has anyone experienced this as well?
Thanks

Vibration often doesn't work,

So I got my OnePlus one on Thursday, and all has been fine but today I noticed that the vibrator seems to stop vibrating after repeated vibrating ( for example during typing) if I let the phone rest for like a minute he starts vibrating again, rebooting worked 2times out of 3 too.
You guys think this is software related? Or hardware?
Using stock cm12 unroofed and bootloader still locked.

When someone calls you, does your device vibrates? (Vibration mode or Ringing+Vibration mode)
When you restart your device does it vibrate?
My friend had similar issue, he simply returned it the very next day from date of purchase
unlocking the bootloader and flashing a different rom is a good test to find out if its software or hardware related right?
