[Q] Core magically working again... any explanations? - Samsung Galaxy Core

So the other day, I decided I wanted to remove root on my Core for once and for all, and fired up Odin.
And being the idiot I am, I selected "NAND erase all" and allowed it to finish, smiling stupidly. Surprise, the phone refused to boot up. It wasn't even stuck in the bootloop: it would just start off with the "Samsung" flourish, then the "SAMSUNG" would glow back and forth. I waited for the booting to finish. I gave it ten minutes, an hour, and eventually the whole night; no dice.
I realised my blunder. I took it to a small service center I know, and asked him whether he could fix it. He tried quite hard for a week, and eventually gave up. I took it back from him and decided to take it to a Samsung center. Note, status so far is unchanged. The phone managed to run out of battery waiting for the boot to finish.
Now for the weird twist. While I had it at home today, sitting aside nicely switched off, it magically switched itself on. I was puzzled to see it starting up, but even more bewildered when it started initial setup- as good as new!
So my question: Should I start believing in good gremlins? Or does someone out there "know this feel" and have an explanation?
Looking forward to any theories that would explain this. And if nothing, well... gremlins.
EDIT: I wanted to remove root because I had got myself a Nexus 4 (Yes, yes, I know, quite a big leap) and wanted to pass this on to a cousin. Thought I'd clean up all data and then go about it

I need your help guys...

Hello there Infuse community
Some may know me, others may not. I am Marcus, and I am currently starting a project on App reviews for the Infuse. How they run, are they worth it, how are the graphics, you know all that kinda stuff May seem stupid, may seem worthless. "Why cant we just look at the reviews when downloading the app?" Go ahead and do so, if you find that more convenient then that's great But this is a little project that I have been wanting to do to keep me busy.
What I am asking of you is simply this... Below in the posts, post what App you want me to review, an app you want to know more about. I will download it, give it the through and through and review it letting you know all you need to about it to see if it's something you might want.
So if you want to help in my little project, please go ahead and do so Also you can private message me anything else you want to know and such.
Thank you and good day.

Goodbye Skyrocketeers!

Just wanted to say it was a pleasure owning a Skyrocket and although I may not have participated much directly, I read the forums every single day. Sadly on Friday, my Skyrocket fell out of my pocket and in the 20-30 seconds it took me to notice, someone had picked it up and swiped it. Since the Skyrocket and the S3 are priced the same with my provider, I decided to upgrade (totally debatable!).
So, I'll still be around XDA and will probably still read the Skyrocket forums at times, but I wanted to say thank you to all the developers on this side and please keep up the good work! The Skyrocket is one of the best Galaxy's I've owned and I'm sure it'll be around for a lot longer than most with this community!
Thanks again to everyone!

When you get your S3, install Cerebrus on it. Best theft protection app ever, I downloaded it and practically want someone to steal my phone so I can kick their ass with it.

bye bye :good:
Too bad people can't have the decency to say "hey did someone drop their phone" because they are to busy putting it in their pocket and running away.
Anyway, enjoy the S3.

I agree. I did kind of screw myself over though. I was in such a panic I ran home and changed my passwords since the phone is logged into everything, and THEN I realized I could have used several tools to track the phone by installing through Google Play. So sadly I locked myself out in a panic and didn't get a chance to track it. Oh well, you live and you learn! Karma will have her way with whoever took it

I installed Where's My Droid on my phone so I could track it with just a text message. I actually did it after getting a phone call from a mechanic who had dropped his phone accidentally in my wife's car (unnoticed by him or me at the time) and a similar app (which I later found out was Plan B) tracked it to my address and he called me.
I was only too happy to return the phone to him the following day. I was actually impressed with the fact that the app tracked the phone to my garage.
Sorry you lost your phone, though. That's a bummer.

Hi everyone,

It's been a fun time

Hello guys,
These past 2 years were some if the must fun I have ever had with a phone. Rooting and installing a custom ROM was a totally new experience and the first time rooting was nerve wrecking. My blaze had survived multiple drops and many, many custom ROMs, but the time has come for me to move on. I have now acquired the LG g2 and wow, this phone is amazing. The same I said when I got our little blaze. I will still check in from time to time and I still have my blaze so I could occasionally do some testing. Anyways guys, I will now be moving to my new home(both in real life and on xda ) thanks for the great time!
Sincerely,
Veliion

Got friends that also use some ROMs that are here. Been helping them out also. Hope you have fun with that new LG G2 you got . And also have fun with that new home of yours. New home, new beginning xD (at least in my family, they use that term).

[Q] Phone not getting switched on after it fell in water

Hi,
So my nexus 5 fell into swimming pool. I tried all the methods of drying up and it has been 5 days but still its not getting switched on. When I insert the charger, the battery shows 100% and when I try to power it on, the Google logo shows and then again the battery symbol keeps coming. Also, can't turn it on without putting the charger. Any idea, what all are damaged inside the phone?
um.. the whole phone? all the metal pieces, wires, curcuits, chips, etc.

I have some ideas for it. It's on my "under consideration" list. But I've never used my headset, so could take a while. What does the headset do in normal use? When not in a phone call, it doesn't do anything in any other app? When in a call, it toggles the phone?

I accidentally hit "THANKS".
You can try taking the phone apart and cleaning the parts with rubbing alcohol. Usually that will fix a water damaged phone. There are plenty of guides on YouTube on how to do so. Good luck.

Small world. I grew up in Glenview. Live in Northbrook now.
Wow this thread stayed on topic!
I have the Nex 4. (Buying the 5 this week) and mine went into the washing machine for about 1 minute until I realized it was in there.
It shut down and I thought I was f'd. But I immediately took it apart and unplugged the battery and dried everything I could physically and left it in rice 12 hours. I know that's not enough time but anyway it turned on the next day with vertical lines going up and down on boot up.
Then to my surprise after the boot up I had my phone working with all icons on all screens still in place. The problem though is the screen is now washed out. Colors are not clear and I need brightness set all the way up to see the screen.
The other problem is that when the screen times out or I turn the screen off myself, it may not turn back on. Just a faint backlit light comes on. If I keep hitting the power button to try to shut off the screen and back on, I keep getting the blank screen. One thing I found out recently is I don't have to do a battery disconnect to get things back. All I do is wait about two minutes, hit the power button and the screen turns back on. No shutdown needed.
Needless to say, I managed to fix what was almost a certain brick. It's been over a month and the phone is still going strong.
This week is definite purchasing of the 5. I can't wait.
