This is not a question about "what is the best rom?" or "which is the best phone?" b/c those questions, as we know, are mostly personal to the user. My question: Which Android phone has the biggest/best XDA development community? I have owned about everything HTC and recently bought a Samsung Fascinate. The Fascinate community appears poised to develop when the smart guys figure out the kernel or froyo is released. But, compared to my Droid Incredible, I don't see the same level of interest from developers. Any thoughts? (Oh yeah, I am limited now to anything working on Verizon).
Probably the Nexus One since it is the official dev phone, however, most HTC phones have huge dev communities (especially the EVO). The Droid line of phones also has a large following, since they're the best you can get on Verizon.
Yes, Nexus One is probably correct and I think they used to make them for Verizon. I am surprised there is not somewhere on the XDA site to go to check number of posts, number of active posters, etc. in each dev site by device. Or, maybe, not many people have this curiosity?

The N1 was originally planned for Sprint and Verizon, but it was never made due to the launch of the Incredible and EVO. You CAN check the number of posts in each forum just by looking at the "stats" column.
The desire forum is also very active. The oldest thread on the first page tends to be about 1hr since last post (at the most).
Revisiting after 7 yrs from the day of post creation.. Let me re ask the question.. Which of the top 5 smartphones today have the largest development community at xda?

Same question I have a Note 5 and it sucks, I'm about to upgrade and want to know what's the easiest to root, right now if I want to get free stuff in apps I have to get on bluestacks then back to my phone.
For reducing the amount of unnecessary duplicate threads this thread needed to get closed. Please post any "what phone should I buy" questions in the dedicated thread.
I recently upgraded from a Nexus 4. I was unlucky when I purchased my S4 because it came with the MF3 firmware. It's really important for me to be able to run custom roms on my phone. I know that using the safestrap method I can install TW based roms but I'd like to have more options available to me. It seems as though this has been the case for a while now. Should I just return my phone and purchase something else or wait for a fix in the future? Also, with the 4.3 update coming soon for the AT&T S4, will this effect my ability to use the safestrap method?

A. You need to search, the question you asked about safestrap has been answered several times as well as it can be answered at this point.
B. Only you can decide if you want to take the phone back or not. How is anyone supposed to make that decision for you? If you need information to help you make the decision, I suggest you read the "pinned" threads in the General and Q&A sections and also read the threads that are on the front couple of pages of those sections. Good luck.

I would say return it if you really care about flashing custom roms, get the nexus 5 if you want pure Android experience. Otherwise, you could keep it and wait for the flashing method to becomes available.
@scott14719
There is nothing wrong asking for a second opinion. move on.
Mod Edit profanity
I say return it. There a plenty of options out there. My girlfriend just bought the lg g2 it's a very good phone. Or like was mentioned above the nexus 5 if you want pure android.

... thanks buddy. the reason i ask is because maybe there is a developer reading this who might be able to give me a clearer timetable on when a fix might be released. it seems as though this has been an ongoing problem with no fix in sight. if the problem were to be fixed within the next month or so i'd be interested in keeping the phone. hence, why i ask the community for advice. it's not as though i'm a little child who doesn't know how to spend his money. and my question about the update/safestrap issue isn't clearly answered on the OP's FAQ... maybe if i sifted through thousands of pages. you go out of your way to write a lengthy MOD EDIT response yet fail to answer the question that could be easily answered much faster.
Anyone who buys an S4 or Note 3 from AT&T right now isMOD EDIT And did not do their homework before buying.
I'm lucky because I got my S4 the first day it was released, so I can run any ROM I want, including AOSP. But as of recently, nobody who buys a new S4 or Note 3 can run REAL custom ROM's, ever (as of today). And I'm talking AOSP of course.
When the first of my two current AT&T contracts is up (June '14), I'm ditching AT&T and going to T-Mobile.
I'll sell my used S4 to cover the cost of prematurely ending my second contract.
MOD EDIT AT&T.
I still love Samsung though. And have no plans to leave Samsung phones as long as they continue to give us removeable battery covers and MicroSD card slots.
Read and make a decision on your own. No one can decide it for you...the end!
Consider the Thread closed.
To the OP the reply to search and read is the best reply. The #1 rule on XDA is search. Your remark to the individual suggesting to search and read is unwarranted.
Also questions go in the Q&A section not in General. Please read the XDA rules here and familiarize yourself with them.
To all others profanity is not permitted on XDA in any style or form. Masked profanity is profanity. Also abusive name calling is not tolerated.
Thank you for your future attention to this.

Have a nice day.
Please don't get mad at me for making this thread.
I just haven't seen any recent, non-shady looking places with a guide to root an HTC One X.
I'd like to root my HTC One X to:
1) Improve battery life by:
i) Safely undervolting/underclocking it
ii) Turning off 2 of the 4 cores
iii) Installing the BEST rom for battery
(I'm not sure of their respective advantages/risks/disadvantages.. could you please let me know?)
iv) Any other way, really
2) Get rid of the "3" Network branding
3) Maybe get a nice ROM
4) Perhaps I'll get Titanium Backup Pro,
I recently had my phone serviced under warranty at HTC service, and the 3-month-warranty-of-repairs thing will end in a month, and the normal 2 year warranty expired in April.
Should I root my HOX now?
How should I root my HOX? Could you please direct me to a still-valid rooting guide for my HOX?
Also, could you please recommend what I should do once I root my phone?
EDIT: Also, I'm a bit confused about custom ROMs. Does having one installed mean the default HTC Sense is removed? Like, the weather widgets and such will be gone? The 'settings' menus will look different, etc?
Thanks
The first thing you should do is probably be in the correct forum [emoji12]
You're in the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita) forum, and you actually have the HTC One X (Endeavoru). Plus, you've posted in the General Section, when you should have posted in the Q&A Section.
What you should do is head over to the HTC One X forum, but before you post another thread there you should do some research first. XDA rules state that a user must search thoroughly before posting. All you should really need to do is check out the sticky threads (the ones at the very top) in each of the sections there, your question has been asked a million times before, and therefore has been answered a million times before. Time to do some reading.
PS. Asking which ROM is best/most stable/fastest/prettiest, or asking for a suggestion isn't allowed, here's why. To say one ROM is better is to infer that the others are inferior in some way. This is disrespectful to the devs who spend their spare time bringing us these awesome ROMs free of charge. Each user has different tastes anyway, the best way to see which ROM suits you is to flash a few and find out for yourself. Battery life differs greatly from user to user anyway, it depends a lot on how you use your device.

Thanks for your quick reply!
I didn't realise I was in the wrong forum. Thanks for the advice, I'll go do that now. :cyclops:
Hi all. I'm trying to find the best phone for me and I value your input. I have had all of the Galaxy Phones except for the S5. I really am big on flash and eye candy. I'm trying to decide which At&t phone to get next between the LG G3, S5 and the HTC One M8. I'm obviously going to want to root it and such, but I just want to make sure that I pick a phone that I'm going to be happy with. I currently have the S3 and it does what I need for it too, but I just want a bump in hardware and such. So, between these 3 phones, which do you think I would be happier with? Which one has the more flash, glitz, eye candy, etc? Thanks all.
There are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
I posted a poll on the Pixel XL forum. Please vote if you have an opinion on this.
Right now on XDA we have separate forums for the Pixel and Pixel XL. For the first time (that I can think of) we have two identical Android phones in two sizes.I don't know how popular iPhones forums are on XDA but they don't have separate forums for the regular and plus versions. There isn't iPhone forums on XDA.
It seems like both Pixel and Pixel XL forms already have topics covering both devices. What are your thoughts on combining forums?
In my opinion, it depends on if the ROM, kernel and theme development will differ between the two phones. In theory, it would seem that the development for each would be identical because the internals are identical. However, I'm not sure how the screen size/resolution will play into that.
Plus, accessories such as cases and screen protectors for the Pixel vs the Pixel XL are also going to be different. This might make the "Accessories" section more confusing if the two forums were combined.
Yes, Combine
I'd say, combine everything but the Accessories.
PSA, the Galaxy Tab Pro series has a combined xda forum, for the 8", 10", and 12" sizes

I'll bring this up with the forum moderators for this forum and see what they think. My personal view is, the Pixel XL and Pixel phones should get a lot of traffic, based on the previous phones, I think 2 forums are warranted. We could get confusion when people are asking questions in the Q&A section for example regarding which phone they ware wanting support for etc. Also we would need to find out if the ROM's have different basis as well, if they did then it would almost certainly need two forums.

Agree with @Stephen ...but there are a few caveats that we need to look at first and unfortunately that can't be done until some development begins. First, are there any nuances in the architecture that differentiate the X from the XL? On the front face, only the display and battery are different, but as we all know that doesn't mean the rest is identical. Maybe there is something buried deep in the kernel or a line in one of the props that may seem miniscule, but throws everything out of wack.
Something that we can possibly look at in the future would be combination, but with some restructure. What I mean here is that we can have the Guides/News, Accessories, Themes/Apps/Mods and QA sections combined, but separate the X and XL Development sections from one another. That will make sure that if you are just asking a general question or need a guide, you can look in the combined section. But if you are looking for a specific ROM build, you will have to go into your specific arena.
Ultimately, we need to get devices in hand and a better analysis of the system dumps that we currently have. Those will tell the tale.
Oh and someone said something about the Search Bar. That made my day. I think that I have to log off now since my keyboard is soaked with my tears of laughter and I don't want to short it out and have to explain why to IT.

If there is a simple way for devs to make all work compatible for both - Combine
I would like to cast another vote to have a combined subforum as well. Yes, there are some differences between the devices, but the development that has been happening so far (dePixel8, SuperSU and TWRP, to name a few examples) have either worked for both devices or the developers have published separate builds for each device. I like the idea of a "Unified" sections, much like the Samsung Galaxy S4 subforum that exists. It can be at the OP/developer's discretion to create a release in the unified section, or just for one specific device.
@Stephen, now that some time has passed and development is very similar for both devices, is it possible to combine the forums into something like the S4 has? There has been a lot of double posting between the two separate devices, in both general questions as well as development.
Well, I want to know what this is referencing.

Yea I definitely think they should be combined. They should each have their own accessories forum obv but everything else should be joined. For the development forums there should be a requirement that when you post a ROM/Mod/whatever that you start the title with either
"Pixel"
"Pixel XL"
"BOTH"
To me it's a no brainier. Would be so much easier using this format and joining the forums
I have already combined them in my head. I treat them all the same. So yea, one would be awesome.
Please combine! Im guessing we're missing some great threads and info, and they are as well.

I can see the validity of both sides but we are definitely missing some very good information that is present on the XL forums that hold true for the Pixel. For instance, this thread by a forum moderator https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-root-flash-pixel-xl-t3507886 which to me is a redo of the Heisenberg 5x and 6P threads that were so valuable for the past year. But perhaps they should ask the devs as they are the ones who will have to deal with differentiating the devices, or perhaps making it easier for them if it holds for both devices. Personally, I don't believe there is enough traffic in either to warrant separate forums, but that is my opinion only and I'm sure the mods have their own thoughts.
So who do we actually go to in order to see if this is something they would even consider
