wireless charging going bad? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had a Nexus 5 since mid November 2013. Each night it is charged on a Tylt charger, during the day at my office I have the newer Nexus charger. Within the past month, the Tylt has been intermittently not charging (the green light on the bottom won't light). I could sometimes have success if the phone was turned sideways. But the nexus charger would usually do the trick. Recently the Nexus charger won't get the phone in wireless charging mode either, whether the phone is on or off.
Anyone had wireless charging go bad? Anything to try other than call Google and swap it out? Sean

If you have access to another Qi Wireless Charger try it on that, otherwise it could just be a problem with the coil even though that's unlikely. Did you pull off the back cover at any time?

It's not 100% clear but I believe when he says the Nexus charger he means the Google Qi charging unit, so he would've tested it on there and the Tylt.
Question: Have you ever removed the backplate? Or maybe dropped the phone? If so one of the clips securing the backplate might have loosened.
Try pushing down on the back of the phone right around where the X or S is andif you hear a click it should've snapped back into place. This is most common for people who have removed their backplate.

The clip that's typically the problem can by located thus:
Form a cross (two perpendicular lines), with one line running along the bottom of the letters in NEXUS on the back cover, and the other line coming from the flash. The clip is located where those two perpendicular lines meet. Press down there to ensure it's properly seated.
The entire purpose of that clip is to ensure that the wireless charging contacts seat correctly. If that clip is unseated or broken, you'll (eventually, if not immediately) have wireless charging issues.
However, it doesn't take much to damage the wireless charging system in the N5. My first unit stopped wirelessly charging after I dropped it from a height of about 2 feet (from a seated position), and it landed flat on its back on a tile floor. Luckily, if you bought it from Google, it's still under warranty, and wireless charging not working is a valid warranty issue. (Hence, why I said "my first unit.")

Vivealive wireless charging receiver / mat

Has anyone's Vivealive order shipped or heard anything of shipment?

I'm guessing they're a bit slow since the picture still shows an S3 and says:
Galaxy S3 pictured above. S4 picture will be updated as soon as it's released.

And they still don't have an S4 picture lol
I just got mine today. Sems to work fine. Fits under the original cover find. Although I feel it slightly (ever so slightly) buldges outward since when I put the phone back flat on a counter it can rock slightly, so that confirms its buldging outward. The charging thing is fine, although it didn't come with an adapter its just a USB cord that goes to a DC power (round) jack into the charging mat. So the USB part just goes into your existing charging adapter.

Got mine today. Works well, simple install but I do notice that NFC no long works. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Mine didn't work when I just tested it, had some Samsung Tectiles sitting around.
Then took off the Qi receiver and it worked. Put the Qi receiver back on but made sure it was pushed as far left as possible while still on the contacts. Put the cover back on, and tested it again and it worked!
So I think the Qi receiver if not positioned properly is affecting the NFC antenna which is on the battery. Its basically covering a good portion of the battery.

I tried it, didn't work. I even slid the tectile under the receiver to see if it was covering the NFC antenna. Still nothing.
Have you tried just to remove the Qi receiver and put the cover back on and test it to make sure there isn't something else? If it works without the Qi receiver then it has go be the Qi receiver is blocking the NFC antenna too much.

I can get it to work with no Qi receiver, but no matter how I try to adjust the NFC tag or Qi receiver I'm getting nothing.
I'll keep playing with it to see if I can get it working. Thanks for the info. I'll post back if results change.
Yea the design of this Qi receiver wasn't done with NFC in mind since it blocks a good portion of the battery.
My NFC tag works with this wireless charger receiver installed. Reads tag just above the galaxy s4 logo
Has anyone gotten tasker to recognize the wireless charging?
Also, I've tried multiple different ways with NFC and tectiles. Nothing works. It's as if the Qi receiver is disrupting the NFC capabilities.

Anyone had any issues with this charger? By that I mean for the past few days since Ive got it I feel there is some flaw/issue with this.
It charged wirelessly just fine upto about 96-97%, no issues, then around that time (normally for me like 3-4am) it starts beeping. What I notice is that the charging mat goes has the green charging light go out, then come back on, causing the phone to beep saying "Charging Wirelessly" and it keeps doing this constantly every 30-60secs. It gets so annoying that I have to take it off the mat as I cant sleep with it constantly beeping. I tried to readjust the Qi receiver to make sure it wasn't the problem, still same thing. Tried using a different usb charger (instead of S4 supplied one, an iphone one since its a 1000mah one and not 2000mah one like the S4) and it still did the same thing.
Ive never had the charging mat show the FULL light.
Maybe I got a defective one. Not sure if the mat is defective or the receiver. Ive got a video of this as well (maybe send this to vivealive).

Mine only does that when the phone isn't placed properly on the charging pad.
I also have never seen the full light.

Count me in in not seeing the Full Charge indicator. I have emailed monsterwatts but haven't had any response. I've also had the same issue with the charger beeping regularly after it hits 100%. Not sure but might be returning this --if they ever respond.
Heres my video of what happens constantly starting at the 96% mark. After 5mins at 4am I just pull the damn thing off the charging mat. Sorry had to blur the screen, Im anal about that.

Mine has charged to 100% every time. I've been using it on the Google N4 charger though and not the charger it ships with.
Well woke up this morning to a dead phone. I woke up around 3am wondering why my phone hasn't beeped, so I turned the screen on, wouldn't turn on, Im like wtf? So I turned the phone on, and put it back on the mat. Fell asleep again, woke up at 8am and same crap. Both times the green charging light been on.
So then just hard plugged the phone in and it was charging, for some reason this time it refused the charge. This mat/receiver isn't looking too good for me now.

I'm getting the exact same thing. Its possible the charge mat is designed to trickle charge at 96% onwards. The phone may interpret this as being removed and then replaced on the charge mat.

No clue. I just know it's beeping constantly and annoys the crap out of me at 4am. So much that I just pull it off and leave it at 96-97%

Qi Wireless Charging Kit turns on and off repeatedly

I bought a generic Qi wireless charging kit. It has a white receiver which you open up the back cover of the galaxy s4 and then fit the prongs in place. Then closed the back cover and put it on my charger pad. The charger pad is powered by my OEM Samsung 2A output adapter so that should be plenty of power. There are two lights, one red that is constantly on which I assume is the power light. The other light is green, but it flashes. I'm not sure if it is supposed to do this, but pretty sure it is not as my phone will display a popup notification that wireless charging is enabled. One second later, the popup is gone and the battery icon no longer shows the thunderbolt charging symbol. Another second later, the notification comes back and the battery icon shows the thunderbolt charging symbol. So both the charger pad flashes and my phone's notification and battery charger icon appear and disappear every few seconds repeatedly, anyone know what is going on?
Kind of hard to tell without seeing which one you specifically have. Got any links? Have you made a good connection with the contacts on the back of the phone? And are you placing the phone in a good spot on the charger? I have 2 qi receivers like yours and I don't have these problems unless I'm using the official nexus wireless charger. I think the magnets in it do something to offset it. I have another wireless charging pad and I don't have these problems at all.

I actually do have the link: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/181216698737...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I made sure to buy the GS4 i9500 and almost certain this is a right purchase as the prongs fit perfectly. Based on the instructions, the actual charger is under the symbol/icon, which I have tried to place perfectly. Heck, I tried so many spots with no success. I'm not sure if the receiver is faulty or if the charge pad is faulty. I'm looking into a ChoeTech and Incipio Qi charger right now as its around 30 bucks and have quite some positive reviews.
Well that thing is one of the thicker ones. And I've never liked the design of it. I'd definitely switch receivers. Then chargers if you problem still occurs.
1. check to make sure the contacts on the receiver are not getting disconnected inside the phone.
2. you need to find the sweet spot on your pad when you put your phone on it
Well, I'm in the process of getting a refund on eBay. Guess I'll have to go for a more branded charger instead of some no-name generic.

Wireless charging stopped working

Does anyone else have this kind of trouble? Wireless charging just stopped working. I've tried with two chargers and no effect. Chargers can't be broken because they both charge my older Nexus 4 just fine. USB charging works just fine but I've kind of used to wireless and it drives me crazy since it doesn't work. I haven't dropped the phone or anything, I even replaced the back cover with new genuine OEM back cover since I thought that maybe the coils in back have been damaged or something.
Could it be software issue or what?
I had this same thing happen, although with mine, it was after a (about 2 foot) fall. It could be software, but doubtful, since you can verify that by simply turning your phone off (not in standby, but completely off), and seeing if the battery indicator comes up when you start charging. Regardless, Google will ask you to do a hard reset before they'll replace it to ensure that it's not software-related.
As I said, mine was replaced under warranty for this very issue, so Google does count this as a replaceable issue (provided you bought it from the Play Store). However, there is one thing to try first:
Draw an imaginary line across the bottom of the letters in "nexus" printed on the back cover, and follow that line until you're even with the flash. Right there, there's a clip that most people miss when replacing the cover. That clip MUST be securely fastened, or wireless charging won't work (the purpose of the clip is to keep the wireless charging pins engaged). Press down at that spot to make sure that the clip is engaged.
Barring that, I'd contact Google for replacement (or your carrier, if you bought it from there).
After several re-openings, it apparently finally worked. Those four little pins were somehow bit too low so that connection did last only few seconds. I pulled them up little bit with tweezers, push that copper thing on top of the battery all the way to bottom and firmly put the back cover on its place and now it's working again. I was so close sending this thing back to Google...
Somehow it still feels that it doesn't quite charge it with full power. It apparenly takes much more time than using AC charger. This wasn't the case when this problem didn't occure because it charged wirelessly very quickly.

Wireless charging is too sensitive.

I'm not new to the insert and qi charging station, I've had it on my s4 for almost a year.
I've been using the same Nokia dt900 charger for the s4 and now my note4.
I know there is a little issue getting the phone to charge, seems it's picky on position but I was normally able to find it on 1-3 tries(under 1 minute). But with the note it's been more like 10-15 tries (2-3minutes). And sometimes it would stop charging overnight.
Anyone have this issue? I'm trying to figure out maybe I have a bad insert or maybe the Nokia charger has too small of a coil, I would to try a charger with a larger coil (not larger overall surface). you can see the coil imprint of the insert, I can asume the circle in the center of the charger is about the same size. I've been lining them up this way but it's so annoying. I'm just ready to call it quits.

I have the TYLT charger and i had the same issue. I ended up finding out the phone liked to be slightly to the right of the charger for a good charge lock. I had heating up issues with my first insert (Nillkin) and ended up buying this
Haven't had any issues since.
That's the insert I have the qi-infinity.
get a 3 coil charger. the old 1 coil designs have this problem. with a 3 coil you just throw it on the charger.
Don't have any problems with first try
I made this base for my charging pad out of left over 1/4" thick acrylic. It has adjustable height, so it is easy to find best spot.
I think it makes a big difference which insert you use. My first one was VERY picky, but I got a different style (square with single inverted "L" contact at the top) and that is much better. The coil on that one is slightly off centre, and so the phone needs to be offset to the right a little for best results.
I'm going to try the official QI case mod - the Samsung coil looks bigger, and definitely central.
I do have issues with that as well. This is why I recommend just plugging the darned thing it. Takes less than 3 seconds, and it works EVERY TIME Without fail.
I am using the OEM S Charging View Kit for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Charing Pad + S-View Cover) & I have no issue at all.
It charge at any position even at uneven position.
[Review+Tips]Samsung S-View Wireless Charging Kit for Samsung
The insert type receiver I tried was very picky on placement. I switched to the OEM charging back and it is much more forgiving. With the Samsung mini charger pad I can just center the phone and it works every time. With the Tylt charger I found that placing the phone horizontally works every time while I could not get a reliable connection with the phone vertical.
I agree. I had no particular problems with my S4. However, with the Note 4 it tried my patience and was no longer convenient. It was easier and quicker to just plug it in. Also, I didn't like the heat generation. I've since stopped using the Qi charger and returned the receiver. I've gone back to my tried and true technique of having a spare battery available. Much quicker and I don't have to worry about how much battery life I have left for the day.

Wireless Charging for my V10??

I'm not finding clear info on if the V10 is ready to go or needs something added to enable a wireless charging on a wireless charging stand.
I've seen you you can add some kind of antenna to the back cover; when I remove the back cover on mine, there is already one there; but not sure if it is for wireless charging.
Can anyone fill me in?
That's for NFC, Qi wireless charging requires an new replacement back accessory. Just google Qi Wireless, and the NFC/Qi charging requires two Pairs of PIN connectors on the LEFT and RIGHT side of the back cover. By default its only on the RIGHT hand side, which is for NFC only
I bought a wireless charging "sticker" to retrofit my v10 for wireless charging. Installation was a little finicky but totally doable. You remove the existing nfc sticker inside the back cover and replace with one that does nfc and wireless charging. Then it will change with any qi charger.
I tried using it for awhile, but I kind of hate it. You have to line it up perfectly and even then it's incredibly slow. Misalign and it gets hot but slowly discharges the battery. I never use it.

I had the same experience. I tried it but it is slow and the phone gets hot. I never use it anymore.
I have a Qi replacement back, and it was awesome. But after a year it keeps turning off and my Tylt charger will blink red, wake the phone up, start charging. It'll get to 100% over night, but I don't like it.
I am currently using: LG Wireless Charging Backcase CPR-120 für V10 schwarz, CPR-120.AGEUBK (from amazon.de) together with Samsung EP-PA510BWEGWW Wireless Charging Plate Mini - White and this is working fine. I did try a cheap backcase from e-bay but that one started falling apart (first some cracks and then pieces around crack fell off) so not bothered to try any others.
