Calling issues on T-Mobile "Roaming indicator off" - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On the first call attempt it says roaming indicator off and the call immediately drops (without any rings)
The second attempt the call goes thru.
Why is this?
I'm using T-Mobile. Set the phone to LTE-GSM-UTMS only. Does it on global as well.
Any help?

Hey on T-mobile does the 4G LTE icon come up for you? If so when its up can you send texts?

Just checked. When mobile data is on, no text. When texts work no data. For data have to switch to global. What settings do you use? How did you configure apn? Tweeker?

Voice isn't transmitted over LTE so it's more than likely your phone, or you have the wrong network mode selected. If you don't want to be on LTE you need to be on CDMA/EvDo Auto....

Yea, voice goes over 1x. And probly always will, there's just not enough data in voice to warrant anything more.

I am only getting LTE/CDMA or CDMA only, no other choice. I guess I will just keep it rocking LTE and just connect WiFi when I can.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
There is an app called lte on/off for free in the market.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Oh, I just set it with dialer codes and I am sure it just a accesses the same menu.

I just spent a week in a 'no LTE' area. I turned off LTE in settings (CDMA only) and had no problems with phone calls.
What does LTE turned off have to do with being able to make a call.
You can take the SIM card out and still make a call.
Sent from my Verizon 4GLTE HTC Thunderbolt
Not sure but with my phone if LTE is off all my calls close before they start with a message of "Call lost".
Sent by way of carrier pidgeon.
That is not right, if your phone is doing that it is broken, take it back and get a new one.
Sent from my TBolt using my f***king thumbs...
Actually if you take the simcard out you won't be able to use LTE phone at all unless you want to browse the internet over wifi.

Nobody said data without SIM, just voice, which is accurate. You can still make calls without the sim inserted.

If you have assisted dialing turned off, it will cause issues with trying to dial numbers.
If your numbers have area codes and a "1" in your contacts, they will not work unless you have assisted dialing checked on.

How to force LTE to turn on?

I've already selected LTE as the network mode under mobile network settings, but as I type this I'm on 3G. I know I get 4G in this area, but it's not exactly the best. My goal is to stay connected to LTE even when the signal is worse than 3G. I did this on my Galaxy S3 by toggling the LTE setting that CyanogenMod 10.2 allows you to do from the quick settings panel, but the stock Nexus 5 ROM doesn't have that option.
How can I force my Nexus 5 to stay connected to LTE even when the signal is worse than 3G?

It should prefer LTE all the time. Make sure your APN is correct for LTE on your carrier.

In you dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#*, after that you should see a menu popup, select phone information...scroll down and you should see a drop down menu, change from the default GSM/LTE to LTE only

I could be wrong, but I think doing that will not allow you to get calls or texts, because those run off gsm.

Try doing the following just to see if you can pick up LTE at all. If you do whats below you will not get any voice calls until you change it back since voice does not use LTE. In you dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#*, select phone information, scroll down and you should see a drop down menu, change from the default GSM/LTE to LTE only. To get voice back change it back to GSM/LTE

N5 doesn't show incoming calls?

A friend told me that he called me a few times, but I dont have any missed calls in my call history. Then I googled and found this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OurDvZlHC3E
This is very serious bug, due to my work I cant skip incoming calls. Does anyone know if this happens only on LTE? Because if it does, I will disable it. I hope Google will soon fix this bug..
Thanx

Very weird. I never noticed that. I get calls at work where I'm on 4G (T-Mobile). Is it all the time no matter what if you're on 4G that you miss calls or just sometimes? That's actually a huge bug... Wow.
There is article on Android police about this issue:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...p-receiving-calls-and-text-messages-for-some/
IMO this is very serious bug and Google should urgently fix it.

dial *#*#4636#*#*, press phone info, if your network is set to lte only, you will not get any phone calls. phone calls do not work iver lte on the n5. it needs to be set to lte/gsm.

but the video shows when he called himself, theres ringtone.. so its not in LTE only mode, which was my point..
he was using GV, so maybe it wasnt setup properly
This happened to me few times. Also anyone else ever encounter where the phone will ring, but no dialer or option to pick up the phone call? The notification will show incoming at the top and it rings.

Thank you all for your patience as our team has been investigating this issue.
I checked and I have set LTE/GSM auto. I tried to call myself a few times from other phone and Nexus showed incoming call. So looks like this bug appear from time to time.
To "make sure" I will get all incoming calls, I have disabled LTE and I will restart phone every morning.

Wifi calling

Is this available on Verizon? I enabled it in feature.xml and see the check box under phone settings now but how do you switch to wifi calling?

I do believe that Verizon is using Advance Calling as a way to use WiFi for calls as long as your phone supports Advance calling. Of course it still has to be enabled and it still uses minutes if you don't have unlimited talk time.

It is when you're not on WiFi. If I remember correctly Verizon has the calls going over WiFi when connected even if you're in LTE coverage.

If that's correct, I should be able to make calls over WiFi if I have super spotty 3G coverage? I'm out in BFE Kansas and despite being on WiFi and having advanced calling enabled, I can barely get a call through. I was pretty sure Verizon doesn't use WiFi at all for calling.
Yeah I don't think volte uses wifi. I wish they'd add it so we could make calls when we're outside the us
